Mandarins on sale $3.99, sandwich not $7.99.
    Mo O.

First time buying a ready-made sandwich from a supermarket deli. A ham and havarti sandwich is $8. The four ingredients are bread, green leaf lettuce, 2 thin slices of ham, and one slice of cheese. Too much bread. Oh, was I supposed to ask for mayo and mustard? My mouth is so dry now. I can start snacking on the mandarins that were on sale for $3.99 for 3 pounds.

Thin steaks with almost wagyu-like marbling. For that price this was a gem in the rough. I often get lucky at this Luckys.

I'm not a huge big box grocery guy, but living deep in the suburbs, it is just a fact of life. I'll never do ALL my shopping, in one store, on a regular basis. I'll use different stores for different reasons/specials. So my area has 5 Lucky Stores all within a 5 mile radius. And amongst that selection, this one is now my favorite. This store is huge, much bigger than the other 2 much closer to me. Wide aisles and just a lot of space. It is easy on my eyes and great for my desire for personal spacing. I also like to go early in the mornings or those in-between hours between lunch and dinner. Insures that mellow traffic of people inside the store and cars out in the parking lot. Their produce area is well stocked and well kept. I'll go to nicer stores for the bulk of my produce, but to keep fresh produce in my kitchen, this place helps. The meat area is my main draw here. I'll often just walk in to see what's on special that week and I can usually walk out with something. For some reason I'll have a better success rate here than the other Lucky Stores around me. Maybe bigger store = bigger inventory? Also I find it easier to get help from the employees behind the counters. The smaller ones near me, I find it extremely difficult to get something from their display case. Here I find it not only easy, but quite friendly as well. Like they are glad to have been able to help. Crazy thought huh??! Haven't really utilized the rest of the store yet, but in just these few draws, it is enough for me to visit every 6-10 days or so. A nice addition to my local rotation. A Lucky's where I actually feel lucky.

Easy packaged meals to grab and go.

After a spontaneous donuts run, my friends and I stopped by Lucky's to pick up a couple of items. Walking in, the store was brightly lit and was very empty on a Friday night. We perused the aisles - everything was well organized and stocked. The aisles are wide enough to maneuver multiple shopping carts at once. I was really impressed with how clean the store was kept and how each department was designed. The department signs are large enough to read from afar, making it easy to locate the area you're looking for. The store operates its normal hours during these COVID times. Although I may not live in the area, I plan to stop by for my grocery needs if I'm nearby.

This review is mostly for their bathroom and customer service. Me and my 2 year old went across the entire store to find the restroom once we found it it was locked with a code. No way to contact anyone to open it I ended up calling them to the number on the website. The man who answered was very short and rude. I let him know I was by their bathroom if he could provide me the code and he very rudely said "NO, I'll send someone". Ok I hung up and waited. When he got there he opened the door to find the most disgusting bathroom I have ever seen. What is the point of the lock if they are not keeping it clean at all. I have attached pictures of what I saw. I made my 2 year old wait until we went home since this was no sanitary place for us. The pictures speak for themselves.

That said, the portion is a bit small--just 8 pieces--so it might not be enough on its own. Pairing it with something else definitely makes it more filling. We even told Melissa or Melinda that we've had issues in the past and really needed the chicken to be correct and ready. The day of, we called to make sure the chicken was being cooked and would be ready at 4pm. We were told the chicken was going in that moment. Once again, we showed up right on time, and not only was the chicken not cooking or ready at all, they didn't even have the chicken we asked for. We only wanted legs and thighs, which Melissa guaranteed she would put 18 pieces aside in the morning (we spoke to her the night before), and she said she would PERSONALLY make sure we were taken care of. What a waste of time and money. We ended up with breasts and legs, which we did not want, but since our event was at 5pm, we had no choice. We will definitely never be back for the chicken at this location again.

That's a lot more than Safeway did the last time a similar thing happened there. What a pleasant surprise. Thank you, Smart & Final. Review adjusted. Usually a good store, but check your receipt. Why did I shop at Smart & Final on March 30, versus Safeway or Costco? Because of the sale prices on Challenge Butter w/Canola Oil 15oz for $4.29 (butter prices are going up) and their First Street Sparkling Water 12pk for $4.49. Both sale prices are current and do not require a digital coupon. I did scan my app successfully, however, because the $1.49/lb spiral cut ham price worked correctly. The butter and water did not. Looking at my receipt at home, the butter rang up at $5.59 and the water at $5.79 +CRV, and I bought 3 of each, so they got me for $7.80 total over. It's not worth shopping here to save money on certain items if I'm paying it right back on other, mis-priced items. At least the ham was good.

You will find all the products you normally would find/need at your local grocery store with an added twist of unique finds [snacks, cereal flavors, beverages, etc.] Aisles are extra wide, store is organized, and very clean. On a side note, parking is an absolute breeze- spacious and plentiful!!! With that being said, the produce department doesn't offer the freshest items. Call me super picky, but I'm not trying to spend my money on wilted, wrinkly fruits & vegetables. Just take your time to inspect prior to committing. Meats, snacks, beverages, & party supplies [yes, I said "party supplies"] are at an abundance. They legit have everything you could possibly need. 4 stars!

I'm not rushing back here for their premade food. I just feel I get cheaper and better quality at other markets. So it's hard to go here for it. The bulgogi kimchi fried rice was quite oily. A bit spicier than I want it to be but it's not burning hot which is liveable. The karaage was ok. Tartar sauce as a dip is a choice. The poke bowl felt like it could be better. The fish pieces were a bit haphazardly chopped. The seaweed was a bit slimy. But if you're needing to find snacks or frozen food or drinks, it's nice to have the option. nearby-ish. Also one of my bffs came here for a bunch of snacks and the associate there checking out her items noticed she was buying something that had a smaller amount where the larger amount item was on sale for the same price. I appreciate them looking out for you to get you a good deal! That's good service there. Everything is nicely laid out and clean so it's a lovely shopping experience but there is a slight smell of perhaps cleaning product which I guess is better than dirty smelling. Again not rushing back, but maybe I'd come back for the chips and such.

This used to be 24 hrs back in the day, but those days are behind us. Their hours are still pretty generous tho like 7 am to 11 pm. If I do venture in here, I'll try and do it early am like 9am as to avoid most of the crowd and chaos. I usually stay away from any food shopping here, unless there is a sale up front like bananas or juice that I can quickly grab without going down a food aisle. There's no meat counter/section here but there are reach in fridges with some prepackaged stuff. And because this is Union City, I amusingly find Filipino products here that I'm sure aren't at other locations. I usually come here for big bags of charcoal. They have a great selection from briquets to natural mesquite to pellets. They are all in the gardening section on a massive rack. And they will be at a price that is better than most, which Walmart is actually beneficial for. I'll also grab outdoor/work clothes here. For those occasions when I'm planning on getting clothes wrecked like for camping/working in the yard/home improvement projects. The nature of the store is evolving, in that more and more things are locked up. Which is a sad commentary on our society actually. Socks, belts, even toothpaste can be locked up, and to find someone to open a case up is usually more cumbersome than it has to be. Which is why 1-2 times a year for a few specific things is more than enough for me. See ya after Labor Day when my dual bag of charcoal needs to be replenished.
