    Green is totally my scene!

Drove past this place so many times due to its location off 206. But finally, I made it a point to stop here before a hike, and so glad I did! What a cute deli inside, packed with so many freshly made options, both pre-made or custom ordered. I struggled a bit between all the options but the friendly staff were patient and helped me with my decision-making. I settled on a chicken salad sandwich, a pesto orzo side, and a refreshing tea. I really loved how light but filling everything tasted... it was all perfect. I could definitely see myself stopping by again to pick up some new flavors, trusting in the quality and freshness of everything here. Especially it being so close to my parents home, and sharing the same name as my mom!

Frittata of the day: zucchini and tomato

TLDR: High quality foods that are mostly hits with a few misses. I would get sandwiches and fresh pastas again. Lucy's is a little store that makes fresh food daily. The layout of the store is bright and beautiful, showcasing its enticing foods. I've been here too many times to count for the sandwiches (I wish they were still made to order instead of to-go!), but this time I grabbed a frittata and bread. The frittata of the day was zucchini and tomato. I got it heated and ate it soon after. The wonderfully burnished cheesy top gave way to a soft, almost custard-like interior. The frittata was tender and surprisingly juicy from the sweet and vibrant veggies. This was a great light breakfast. The bread is slightly firm and quite a bit of bite. For me the bread is too firm to easily enjoy. It's not your crusty bread, but it has good flavor. Like the bread, some options at Lucy's are middling. This wouldn't feel as rough if the items weren't so expensive. Most of the food is good, and I would come by more regularly if there were cheaper options.

We went here for lunch because I had read that Luci's had high quality, local food. We were looking for a sandwich and found much more. Perfectly cooked chickens and roasted turkey sandwiches, Italian sausages - served hot and/or cold. Daily specials. The roast turkey with cranberry was especially good. In fact, so good, we returned the next day. Plus Luci's really doubles as a market for busy people who want a great meal, but maybe don't have time (or the skill) to cook it themselves. So good, we returned with friends and they got a lot of stuff for takeout - lasagna, pasta - all exceptional. Don't forget the Chocolate Chip cookies - so warm and comforting. Overall, Luci's is a hidden gem in a strip mall -nothing fancy - just really good Italian-American cooking by some passionate foodies. Glad we found Luci's.

"Lucy, you got some splainin' to do!" (Ricky Ricardo voice). Why is your food is so delicious and easily accessible to me when I am trying to be good? I have heard of and drove past this place so many times and finally decided to stop by on a whim. Everything looks fresh and homemade, I was tempted to get a little of everything. They have a variety of prepared and frozen food, fresh squeezed organic juices, coffee, muffins, and various grocery items. The star of the show is of course the ravioli, which I have yet to try. Blasphemy, I know! They are a bit pricy but I am okay with paying a little extra for good (make that great) quality. For now I may have to stay away but I will definitely be stopping in when I start eating carbs again. (Summer is coming and I am cutting weight so I had to pinch myself to get away from the fresh pasta). Till we meet again, Miss Lucy.

Normally we stay away from pasta restaurants unless there's something unique to it. However, Pastiamo hit a home run immediately. Then you add the nice plates and simple, yet warm decor. You just can't go wrong. We split the forza Italia as an appetizer to get more of a focaccia kick. We loved the homemade bread. The three cheeses were a nice and complimentary touch. Also, dousing this with some freshly squeezed orange juice didn't hurt. For the main course, we split a pesto gnocchi and a tagliatelle alla Norma. The pasta was truly homemade. Felt super fresh. The sauces were great and not too oily or salty. It was so good that we decided to bring some home to my parents. We will be back again!

Yet, I can confidently say that none of those works can even slightly compare to the chicken parmigiana I had from this establishment. From the moment you step foot into this small, quaint Italian restaurant, you are fully immersed in Italian culture. After being shown to our table, a jovial waiter immediately greeted us with plenty of different water options and spoke of extravagant specials, describing them so convincingly that I almost ordered them all. But after a quick glimpse at the menu, I knew exactly what I wanted. One of my favorite dishes in the entire world is a good, classic chicken parm though I'll admit, I'm very picky about this popular dish. As the chicken parm arrived at the table, I instantly knew this was no ordinary pizza-joint parm. This was a masterpiece. When my knife pierced the chicken, a beautiful crisp echoed throughout the dining room as steam poured out of the perfectly cooked cutlet. And then came the first bite. I immediately began to cry. This was no ordinary bite--this was liberation. My taste buds were freed. After years of searching for the perfect chicken parm, I had finally found it. I am forever indebted to La Mezzaluna and its lovely staff. Not only did they introduce my taste buds to the greatest chicken dish I've ever had, but they also helped create a wonderful night with a lovely date. I will absolutely be returning, and I look forward to the next time I can indulge in their legendary chicken parm.

All of the entrees were a bit on the bland side. However, the Tiramisu for dessert was delicious. Overall a nice experience. A solid 3.5. However, not as great as some of the other Italian restaurants in Central Jersey.

It's the kind of spot where you can't go wrong: date night, dinner with friends, or anything in between. We brought our own bottle and had a great time. Luca's Ristorante is a hidden gem that proves you should never judge a restaurant by its parking lot. Not long after we were seated, we were greeted by Luca -- a Luca and not the Luca. Still he was warm, welcoming, and genuinely passionate about his restaurant, taking the time to walk us through the menu and checking in throughout the meal without ever hovering. Luca's has a partial liquor license, offering a modest wine selection but is otherwise being BYOB. As we were told with a smile, they're much more interested in what's ON your plate than what's IN your glass. We started with two excellent appetizers. The arancini, already a family favorite, were crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and disappeared from the table faster than anyone was willing to admit. The Polpette, Luca's signature meatballs with pine nuts and raisins, certainly earned the praise they've received from NJ.com as some of the best in the state. Even if raisins in meatballs sound unusual, trust the process. The restaurant proudly calls itself "A Taste of Ischia," the beautiful volcanic island in the Bay of Naples, and the seafood absolutely lives up to that promise. My squid ink pasta with octopus (the Polypus) was outstanding, with perfectly tender octopus and beautifully balanced flavors. The scallops were buttery, sweet, and cooked to perfection, while the Ischia -- loaded with mussels, clams, and calamari -- was every seafood lover's dream. The rest of the menu proved just as impressive. The Pappardelle, featuring burrata and a rich Bolognese sauce, was a huge hit, while the Romolo, a comforting combination of chicken, pasta, bacon, and sauce, was another winner that had no leftovers to speak of. If you somehow still have room after dinner, Luca's offers a nice assortment of gelato. But do yourself one favor: don't leave without ordering a cappuccino. Rich, foamy, and expertly made, it's the perfect finale to a memorable meal. If you find yourself in Somerset, just a few turns off Routes 287 or 1, make the stop. You'll be greeted by a wonderful staff, treated to outstanding food, and very likely leave wondering how a restaurant this good has been hiding in a strip mall all along.
