*Blessing in Disguise* YMMV but I found Luis Moya to be very rude, unfriendly and he displayed an extremely condescending chair-side manner. From the moment he walked in to meet & greet me, he was cold, disrespectful and unwelcoming. I was startled. I treat everyone with kindness and respect, unless given good reason not to. But Luis Moya was so discourteous, I got up from the dental chair and walked out of his office. Never before have I felt this way during my time with any medical or dental professional. But I'm actually glad this happened during my negative initial experience with Luis Moya, and didn't allow him to provide any services that require billing my insurance. Because it led me to finding an amazing new Dentist & office in Rancho Mirage for an exam & cleaning -- without having to drive in to LA again, to see my dentist of 20 years. The 1-star default is for the comfortable lobby/waiting area, the wonderful lovely lady at the reception desk, and the friendly tech I had a nice conversation with, prior to my unforgettable encounter with Luis Moya. read more

Completely happy with my first visit! I was referred to Dr. Moya by a previous hygienist from a different office that I had a very poor experience with. The office is clean and comfortable. My hygienist was Sarah and she did a phenomenal job explaining everything and taking her time doing my cleaning. When she was finished cleaning my teeth, Dr. Moya came in to look at my teeth. He was kind, friendly, and knowledgeable. I appreciate that this dentist office doesn't push and harass their patients to get unnecessary work done. I came in for a cleaning and I received a cleaning. The last two offices I visited always tried to upsell and also had hidden added charges to which I never agreed upon. The difference is this is Dr. Moya's office. He is the sole dentist. The last two places I went were clinics with multiple dentists and they make their money by scamming patients. When it was time to check out, I was assisted by Kirsten who was extremely friendly and also very knowledgeable. When I asked about my co pay, Kirsten told me I didn't have one as it was included in my insurance plan. I was shocked because every other time I had visited the other 2 dentist clinics, they would always charge me a $20 co pay. My father was a dentist, so I'm pretty familiar with how things work at the dentist office. I highly recommend Dr. Moya and his office. I was a patient at Dr. Moya's practice for 18 months. All he was interested in was deep cleanings and regular cleanings. He replaced some prior bonding on one tooth and did a very poor job. I complained about a toothache in August of 2025. I was told I had a sinus infection and sent on my way with antibiotics. He also mentioned 2 small cavities that could wait until my next cleaning. The toothache persisted. I went to another dentist in October. Turns out that the tooth was so decayed that it had to be pulled. I need an implant where the tooth was removed. In addition, I had 5 other cavities and needed a crown. It amazes me that none of these things were detected by Dr. Moya. So now I'm into significant work at significant cost even with insurance. My real rating would be negative stars. read more

I was here in the coachella valley temporarily for work and had the unfortunate experience with Luis Moya (won't even call him a real dentist because god knows where he received his credentials from. He not only is condescending and incompetent but I noticed he treats his staff extremely poorly. Most of the assistants do not know what they are doing. One that came by for my x rays was very kind and helpful. The others were probably 18 years old and rude and had no clue what they were doing (especially the young man). But doctor Moya performed a filling and restored a crown that fell out the night after my appointment. When I came back he insisted it was not his fault. I am a patient at Dr Moya's office for several years. For the past two years each and every dental hygiene appointment was canceled short notice, often on the same day of the appointment. So I looked for another Dentist. Dr Moya ordered a nightguard stating I would clench my teeth. My new dentist and a third one (I needed to see while I was on vacation ) confirmed that I have no signs or symptoms of teeth clenching or grinding. Dr. Moya is a good dentist, nice man and good at explaining things. What I had a issue with is this how the practice is run. We are a family of 3, I called in July as newbies to the office. They verified my insurance, confirming I have 3 cleanings a year. We make the appointment for the 2nd and 3rd for two of us because they didn't have any evening appointments until Dec but I was told we can go on a wait list and they will call me if a spot opens. I go back a week later because my little one was getting cavities filled. I asked to see if any open appointments for my husband, bedsides Dec, because we have 2 more cleanings for the year. I was told we only get two a year. I explained no my insurance covers 3 and they already verified I do! She tried to tell me no the system shows 2 and most insurance company do 2 a year, hers does. I told her to just leave our appointments. I called my insurance company and they again confirm it's 3 and not 2! I had an appointment in Sept that I had to reschedule and was told they had no openings at any time until Feb. Okay fine that sucks but I can understand being short staffed. Every appointment we have had, they have tried to change. Either day or time. Here we are in Dec. I get a call on Monday saying they had to reschedule our appt on Tuesday but we can come in Thursday, I'm okay with that. I call Weds to confirm the appointment and was told it was good for 5p. Later that day I get a call saying the can't do 5p but can I do 4p. I said no because my husband won't be off of work. They said okay still come at 5pm, they will accommodate. Thursday comes and they tried to say we have to pay for the cleaning for my son because he was just there 2 months ago and he has to wait 3 months because of insurance. 1st of all they made the appointment originally saying it was covered but now they are saying it's not. I explained that's not true but no. I ended up saying just forget my sons cleaning and do my husband. They ended up doing the cleaning saying it's covered. I call the insurance company and of course they confirmed there is no restrictions! As long as the cleanings are done in the calendar year they don't have to be spaced apart! On top of that my husband waited 35 mins after his appointment time to be seen. If you decide to go then make sure you confirm what your insurance covers on your own, don't believe what they say. Such a disappointment because Dr. Moya is a nice, gentle dentist but not worth dealing with multiple appointments changes and confused coverage. read more

Dr. Moya has been taking care of my family and friends since 2005. He is the only dentist I trust. When I was forced to see other dentists because of insurance issues, several dentists either extracted my teeth or suggested extraction. Dr. Moya was able to save two of them. I should have come to Dr. Moya years ago... You know the problem with dentists? No, the real problem? Trust. Teeth are not something that can be replaced. The biggest reasons people fear going to the Dentists is because they dont want to hear how they have a cavity or pay the astronomical bills. I know because I was one of them. I didnt go to a proper dentist for almost 10 years, but now, I am happy to have found a dentist I can come to every 6 months. Dentists recommend a cleaning every 6 months due to tar build-up. Anyway, I needed help, and Dr. Moya was there to help me. I have only gone to Dr. Moya, but I felt like I was in the right place. I got a cleaning, shown a list of cavities that needed to be fixed, but even after the long list of fixes, it was still cheaper than my last dentist. I have to say this was a wonderful surprise. I had to find a new dentist for my elderly father and I made an appointment with Dr. Louis Moya. We arrived a few minutes early for his appointment and were greeted by Dr. Moya himself. My father is hard of hearing and Dr. Moya was kind and took the time to listen to my father and welcome him as a new patient. I am forever grateful for the kind, careful, and totally non-judgmental way that Dr. Moya, the dental assistants, hygienist, and even the patient coordinator/insurance expert Monica treated me. I had quite a few areas of concern that Dr Moya identified....and prioritized treating me right away. Monica quickly worked up a budget and estimated what would be covered by insurance, which she helped me identify what expenses to incur in 2017 vs. rollover to 2018. Everyone is really friendly and supportive. I put off seeing a dentist for literally (4)+ years before asking around for knowledgable, friendly, ethical, affordable and considerate dentist. Dr. Moya kept popping up and friends, so glad he is my dentist. Our family goes to see him....Grandma, Mom, Husband. I dreaded going to the dentist because I knew my formerly nice teeth (thanks Mom and Dad for making sure I had good head start as a kid) were not in good shape with visible cavities and even a cracked tooth. My gums were not looking so great either. Dr Moya and his staff corrected all these issues. I literally feel far better since I feel good about smiling open mouth with teeth showing vs. the half smile I previously self-consciously limited myself. Dr Moya is a very skilled and kind dentist. I was dreading seeing the bill because I figured on top his fees must include the elegant office furnishings, flat screen tvs attached to dental treatment chairs etc. that I noticed...there is even a floor to ceiling water feature....but his rates are totally fair. Terrible staff, not polite at all. First visit was too fast and got fillings in 3 different areas with in a week two chipped off and had to come back to get it fixed. On top of that we were overcharged on our copayment and the older lady at the reception refused to refund arguing that they need to get paid by the insurance first when this is a error from their part. I drove two hours to see this doctor because he is supposed to be a very good one and it's a total disappointment. I encourage you to seek a different dentist. This review is SOLELY concerning scheduling and the lady who answered the phone. I made an appt. 2 weeks in advance. Then, I got a call confirming my appt. (the day before) and they told me to arrive 10 mins. early to fill out paperwork. The next day after work ended (2:15), I had a message saying to call by noon or they were going to cancel my appt. It was super frustrating because I'm a teacher and I had NO IDEA I had to call in. I literally had NO time to check my phone during the day, not even my lunch break. But more frustrating is that when I called in to the place to explain, the lady at the front desk told me that they are training "the new person" at the desk and so they KNOW that they told me to call back... as if I was lying. I didn't argue, because I started questioning myself -- maybe I missed something. However, when I listened to the phone message SHE was WRONG... anyway, I was super annoyed because the next available appointment was in July - 6 months from now. This dentist ruined my mouth. Because of what he did to me, teeth broke fromtoo much pressure as forces were shifted to just a few teeth. He put fillings in that were too high and not contoured to match opposing teeth. Any good reviews must have been his friends. He knows nothing. read more

The idea of Dr. Moya getting a 2 star rating based on issues with making an appointment is just absurd and represents the very worst aspects of Yelp. Dr. Moya is an amazing dentist. I was referred to him by a friend at work and it had turned out to be a great. I had some bad experiences with dentists when I was younger. This kept me from seeing a dentist for years. I only finally broke down because I had a tooth ache that made me want to shove a screw driver into my ear. Since I have been seeing Dr. Moya, he has had to perform some of the scariest (to me) dental work on me. He once pulled a tooth and I did not feel a thing. I asked him when he was going to pull it and it held it up in front of my face and told me he already had. HE PULLED A TOOTH OUT OF MY HEAD AND I DID NOT EVEN NOTICE. Same thing with a root canal, which is the thing that kept me away from dentist. I did not feel any pain. The only pain I have ever felt is the prick of the needle when he is numbing me. Every time I see him I tell him that he is the greatest dentist on Earth and I truly believe that. He is amazing. I think he may be magic. And he also shows me the respect as an adult my last dentist did not. That is important to me. The office is always very clean and welcoming and the staff is fantastic. read more

I was visiting Palm Desert and a crown fell off so I went to Dr Moya who I had seen 2 years earlier when I had a different issue with a different tooth. This time I was shown into an examination room, the assistant did all the normal prep, Dr Moya was in the room for less than 10 minutes and charged me $125 to cement the crown back on. I thought that was a bit outrageous but didn't complain - I was just happy to have the crown back on. One month later, home in Oregon, the crown fell off and my dentist had to clean around the tooth and re-cement it. I called Dr Moya's office in order to get a refund and it took him 12 days and my making 3 calls back to his office for him to decide what he was going to do. Then I get a call that he would refund $75 but not $50 which he was charging for examining the tooth to determine if the crown could be re-cemented -- come on. He clearly has a very high opinion of his time but clearly doesn't know how to cement on a crown. Should I ever need to visit a dentist when in the desert it surely won't be Dr Moya! read more
