The noodles were good but I got food poisoning a few hours later. This included fever, nausea, and I threw up 3 times in one night. Noodle dynasty was the only meal I had that day. I left them a DM on Instagram just to inform them of the situation in an attempt to prevent others from getting sick (I did not ask them for anything). They responded by asking me for a doctor's note, which was kind of rude, after the horrible food poisoning I endured. I love Asian food that comes with noodles! I like Franks Noddles the best but Noodle Dynasty is very good also. They have a wider menu and the place is VERY popular as two examples. The food is very good. Tasty, spicy, filling and reasonably priced considering what you get. Staff is fine. I typically eat at the bar if I am alone and it's very comfortable. There's ample seating if you prefer. Only complaint is that, like Franks, they close for a couple of hours after lunch so you have to check your watch if you are hungry to make sure they will be open. But I can certainly understand why they do this. They open at around 11:00 and close up at 21:00 so that's a lot of hours unless they are running more than one shift. Ordering can be a tad obnoxious and they are clearly targeting a hipster clientele. For those of us who are hearing disabled and do not have a cell phone the QR code ordering scheme can be a total turn off. They will, however, accommodate senior geezers like myself who enjoy not being tethered to a screen. So that's another plus for Franks: an actual person seats you and takes your order. read more

I went during a weekday and ordered the two usual dishes that we get when we came and this time was a disappointment. 1. The braised beef noodle with thin noodles. The braised beef was tender. The pieces were smaller, like cubes instead of other places so it was bite sized. The thin noodles to my surprise was not that thin. It was still fairly thick so now I wonder what their super thin is like because I was afraid it would be like angel hair. The noodles were okay, not that bouncy. The biggest problem was the soup base that just tasted like salt. The broth tasted way different than in the past which was unfortunate. 2. Salt and pepper fish. We use our "fried foods quota" wisely but this time it was a miss. The portion was nice but the fish was hard and dense. The batter was dry and rough. The way that you order after you have been seated is through link that they have through their QR codes on their tables. The menu is in both English and Chinese. They have options such as noodles, rice dishes, appetizers, and classic Chinese main dishes. They're most known for their hand-pulled noodles. The servers also know how to speak Chinese if that is helpful to anyone wanting to visit. Services very fast and the food is so so delicious. I love the salt and pepper tofu. I am a massive tofu fan and this is probably one of the best versions of it that I've had. Rice dishes come in massive portions; It could probably have been two meals for me. My husband and I had another wonderful meal here. The servers were very attentive, and the portions were really generous - we took home at least another dinner of leftovers. Last time I found the spicy beef flat noodles too spicy (my husband liked them) so we got them 'less spicy' this time and they were perfect! So much flavor, the veggies were perfectly cooked, and the beef was super tender. The broccoli beef was good but a little plain, especially next to the spicy noodle dish. But the noodles it came with were outstanding - the chewy bite to each noodle was perfect. The salt & pepper fish was great! I saw a photo of this dish online and had to try it. Came in with plenty of seating on a Sunday night. I have never been here but there is very little interaction with employees. To view the menu, you scan the code on the table and order from it as well. The convenience is, you don't have to wait for a check since you put in the order yourself. They bring your food out and that's it! Easy peasy. Now the amount of food for the price is...crazy. I ordered the spicy braised pork with fat noodles and it didn't even look like I made a dent. I was really fortunate to have seen their ad awhile back on Instagram that allowed me to purchase $1000 dollars worth of gift certificates for only $500. Despite never being here before and despite living on the Eastside I trusted my fellow Yelpers and took a leap of faith and blind purchased the gift card that is attached to my phone number...so no hanging onto a physical card that I might forget or lose. The ordering is great...you can order ahead online through their site or scan a QR code at your table to get a detailed description of the menu item along with a photo and the kitchen here is lightning quick. I've honestly gotten my food in under 4 minutes before which is wild considering how many others were in the restaurant. Portions and prices all reflect a solid value before my 50% discount from the gc promotion. They hand make a lot of the noodle dishes and soups are made from scratch and are solid but not necessarily the best versions in town. I've worked through maybe 1/3 of the menu and items have been a B to A- with many things in the B+ range. The bbq cumin lamb skewers are a solid dish and a great value with 2 generous skewers at $6...I've had better but they are not all too common in Portland and they scratch the itch for when I get nostalgic for Beijing. Noodle dishes both stir fry and soup are probably the main reason I come here and can fill up a big eater or enough for leftovers for someone less hungry. I tend to dine here alone since it's so far from home but this place definitely lends itself well to having 1-3 dining partners to sample multiple things if you're doing family style. We've all heard of the baseball saying, 3 strikes and you're out. Well, Noodle Dynasty almost struck out with two failed attempted to make the right dish! Using the QR code on the table, I ordered the Dan Dan noodles. My wife was intrigued by the ingredients in the spicy beef noodle soup, though she's never been a fan of spicy food. To our surprise, the online ordering system allowed her to customize the dish by removing the spiciness, so she ordered it with wide flat noodles. My Dan Dan noodles came out first. They had a bit of a kick--not overly spicy, but with that signature numbing flavor from Sichuan peppercorns. When my wife's order arrived, she took one sip of the broth and immediately tasted the heat, even though she had specifically selected "no spicy." The waiter took it back, and within five minutes returned with what they said was a corrected version--but this time, it came with thin noodles instead of the wide ones she requested. We asked to speak to the manager and explained the situation. She told us that removing the spice from that dish wasn't actually possible. We showed her our order confirmation, which clearly stated "no spicy," and she acknowledged the issue. She assured us the next version would be right. A short while later, she returned with a third attempt, which she claimed matched the order exactly. But this time, the noodles were all over the place--some were thin, and others were wider than the width of the fork. That kind of inconsistency wasn't even present in my mother-in-law's Lanzhou hand-pulled beef noodle soup, which also uses wide flat noodles--and we've never encountered this issue on previous visits. I really like the texture of the noodles and how you can chose what size you want. The broth was a bit salty but I think that might be a bit more of a personal preference thing. As for the green onion pancake, it was pretty good. Honestly I felt it was middle of the road not the best I've had but far from the worst. I took this meal to go since I was in a rush, but they completed my order pretty quickly. Salt n' pepper fish 4/5: yumm! This is how I got my toddler to enjoy eating fish other than seared salmon that his dad makes at home. The breading is definitely NOT overbearing, it's light, crispy, and just enough salt and pepper. This and the salt n' pepper pork chops are our go-to. Hand pulled stir fry noodles 4/5: Solid, flavorful noodles no matter what choice of meat/tofu you opt for. We always enjoy this dish but if your sensitive spices, you may want to reconsider or make sure to let your waiter know you can't do spicy. Dim Sum: no score, just pass on it. We've visited Noodle Dynasty twice. The first time was on a Thursday afternoon. There were two guys working the dining room that day and they were efficient. The food was also great that day, particularly the vegetable fried rice. It was very flavorful and I enjoyed every bite! The second time we visited was on a Friday afternoon. That day there were two ladies and a guy working the dining area along with one guy in street clothes behind the bar. Things were not running nearly as efficient as the first time. The food we received was also not as good as the previous visit. The vegetable fried rice was bland and mushy. The green onion pancake was very oily and broken in pieces. So it seems that consistency is the issue here. Hopefully, as time goes by things will straighten out. First time here since the name changed. Still unsure whether it's under new ownership, or whether the old just revamped and renamed. Either way, we used to enjoy Tang so decided to give it a try.
