Came on a Friday night with a friend because I saw that they had DIY spring rolls. I was visiting from LA and we have a few places that offer that but I absolutely love making my own spring rolls. Their parking lot is pretty small and holds about 5-7 cars. We got lucky and pulled into the last open spot. There were a good amount of people inside but we were seated right away. They have a little shop area in the front that was super cute too. Their menu is pretty large but in the best way. There's literally something for everyone from spring rolls to pho to banh mi. My friend and I each got our own DIY spring roll set and I got a cup of beef pho broth with an order of rice noodles to make a mini bowl of pho for myself on the side. The spring roll set comes with 4 sheets of rice paper, fresh veggies (lettuce, basil, cucumber, pickled carrots), rice noodles, your choice of protein (we chose pork sausage), and dipping sauce. The pho broth was flavorful and the noodles were cooked perfectly. The spring rolls came out amazing and were so filling. My only suggestion would be to have the carrots shredded instead of sliced to get a more even distribution within the spring rolls. But overall it was a fantastic meal. I have to go back! The menu was extensive and everything was delicious. We tried a few soups and got the bahn mi sandwiches to go. The soups were flavorful and layered especially the spicy beef noodle soup under the special soup section. The Vietnamese crepe was stellar! Perfect texture and taste and comes with all of the veggies and herbs. We jumped into all of it and loved it. The restaurant at itself was cute and comfortable. And they have a great selection of store items up front with cold drinks and desserts. I took home some Portland CA PHE whole bean coffee. I can't recommend this restaurant enough. We came here for early dinner on a Friday night and it was not busy at all. Like others said the parking lot is small but we are happy with having a parking spot since all the street parking was taken around this time. You walk in and see the colorful market filled with colorful snacks, drinks, and ready-to-eat buns to go. The waiting bench also had some kids toys and books which were such a nice touch for this family-friendly spot. You scan the QR code at the table for the menu and the staff comes to take your order. It's clearly a family-run restaurant with so many aunties checking on us and bringing us our food. It felt very homey. I got the Bun Bo Hue (spicy beef noodle soup) and I liked the flavor of it and it had just the right amount of spice for me. I've had better in the area but it's comforting on a chillier day. My hubby got the Luc Loc (shaking beef) that came with lots of veggies and a side of rice. He said the beef itself wasn't super flavorful but the fish sauce concoction it came with brought the dish altogether. We got our toddler the Baby Pho from the kid's menu and I was a little disappointed that it was just the plain bowl of pho (and had a very strong cinnamon flavor) and a tad sweet. For $10 I expected maybe a small spring roll or a juice box or something as a side or drink. Did not feel like it was worth it. Next time I'll just get her a regular pho and take the rest home. Oh and the Taro Bubble Tea is just want I expected with sweet and cold taro smoothie base with chewy boba inside. My comfort pho place!! I even came here alone once (i never go to restaurants alone) because I was craving it so badly. The meat is always very tender and easy to chew. I've never had the Banh Mis but my boyfriend and parents have, and they seemed pleased. I've gotten the boba twice and it's decent, I more so get it because it is convenient and good enough. Came here on a recommendation after the pumpkin patch. They have a small parking lot, but luckily there was one open spot when we arrived. A very cute spot that can maybe fit around 30 people. I usually get the same thing at every pho place introduced for the first time so I can compare. So of course I go with the pho with meatballs. It came with some sides id never seen offered before. I believe it was shrimp paste & maybe Bamboo,not too sire about that one. The broth was very flavorful with a pretty good size serving of noodles. I will say that they are great about leaving you alone unless you need something. My friend and I were having an intense and long conversation and we are very slow eaters so being left to ourselves was perfect. This time I tried their (74) Com Bi Suong Cha which is grilled pork, shredded pork skin and Vietnamese meatloaf. They first brought me chicken thinking I asked for number 75 which they corrected but then they forgot to add their meatloaf so they brought in out late but I was happy they did since that is the best! On our way to Cannon Beach, we were looking for a nice restaurant with good portable options to take with us on our drive to the coast. Tan Tan popped up as one of those options with their pho and banh mi options - I LOVE Vietnamese food, so I was eager to pop by and give this place a try. We went by on a Tuesday around noon and had a prompt seating when entering. As other reviewers have mentioned, there is tight parking at the front of the restaurant - maybe around 8 or 9 spots. During busy hours, you will definitely need to find parking nearby on the street or on a lot. We were luckily able to find parking really close to the restaurant as someone was pulling out as we were arriving. The restaurant itself is cozy, with about estimated 20-30 seats total. There is nice open natural lighting from the windows and greenery decor spread throughout the restaurant. Service is good. They have an online menu that you can view through their QR code at each table. Ordering is done through a service worker, and we got our food around 10ish minutes. We ordered a variety of options, which I'll review down below: #60 Bún Tân Tân Đặc Biệt ($18.50): A vermicelli bowl with a good assortment of options to try! There was fried egg rolls, pork sausage, shrimp, and more. There is a decent amount of food spread throughout the dish and is very fresh. The dish itself is more sprawled throughout the plate, whereas most vermicelli bowls I've had were more pho-like bowls. I think if could tweak the dish, I would add a bit more vermicelli and less veggies as there is a lot of sauce left over. #40 Phở Tân Tân Đặc Biệt - "Phở Special" - ($18): A decently size bowl of pho that had delicious flavor! You can very clearly taste the star anise flavor in the broth - there is a dash of cinnamon, but the star anise for me was the overall taste. I love a fragrant pho as drinking it fills your senses in a pleasant manner. There is a good even helping of all of the meat cuts, which is great since some pho places like to give you more of the cheaper option. We also ordered some banh mi sandwiches to go ($8 each) - the Special Tan Tan and the Chinese BBQ Pork. The Special Tan Tan was memorable - seeing head cheese on a menu is always interesting. You can definitely taste it and it is decadent with a slight gaminess that some might not enjoy, but I think it makes the banh mi delicious. I am reviewing this based on the food options I've had in the Greater Portland area, and I think that Tan Tan Cafe is one of the better options that I have tried so far. Their bao was so fluffy and moist and the filling was perfectly seasoned and also not dry loooved!! I got eveything vermicelli the house special one and it was great. I've had better lemongrass pork at pho oregon but theirs wasn't bad i just didn't taste the marinade as much and the meat wasn't caramelized which is one of the reasons why i love lemongrass pork so a little disappointed there but everything else was phenomenal. My friend got lemon chicken and the chicken was a little dry and I couldn't really taste the marinade on the chicken either. I've been here 2-3 times and I've had their pho and banh mi! Both of them were SO good. Their broth is flavorful and you can tell they put work into it. I don't really know how to explain it but when you try the broth, you can taste that they must've been simmering meat in there for a while and that's why it's so rich! I felt like the portion was good and the ratio of meat to noodle to soup was great. Tbh, wish I had asked for hot sauce too though but I assumed it would come with it haha. Anyways, loved the flavor of the banh mi as well and the bread wasn't too crunchy but also wasn't just soft. I love this place on so many levels beyond just the food, which is already amazing. Any place that has a fun little grocery or mini mart set up in a corner of the store just brings out the kid in you. I also love that they have like a number of kids toys, books, and coloring materials at the front for kids to play. And just the kind of people that would stock a book titled the "GayBCs" is the type of people I want to support. Aside from all of this, their menu just looks amazing. It has all the Vietnamese comfort food that you usually are shocked to even find one of at any Vietnamese restaurant, and this place has nearly all of them in one spot. I got the egg noodle soup with bbq and wontons. Fire. I also got the crunch surprise roll, which is essentially their fried spring roll inside their soft summer roll. I originally thought it was their fresh summer roll that had just a twisted fried wrapper inside to provide additional crunch (Goi Cuon Nem), but it was still pretty good as is. I will also say their homemade hoisin sauce is noticeably sweeter than the lee kum kee version. I personally prefer the lee kum kee version, but that may also just due to my familiarity with it. Unfortunately, the Bo Luc Lac is subpar, probably the poorest version of any in recent memory. For one, the meat is tough and more resembles American steak than the classic Vietnamese dish. It's served on a bed of low grade iceberg lettuce and tomato slices chopped in the style of a roadside diner. The sauce was decent. The Limeade was quite good. And do yourself a favor and get the homeade yogurt that's in the cooler. You might be surprised at the very low price point. Our server was new, very sweet and polite. ***VEGAN REVIEW*** No no no no no. No. No. So I am always weary when I check am online menu and it doesn't seem like there are good vegan options. And there weren't. All I wanted was a vegan vermicelli bowl. To me that was vermicelli noodles, lots of fresh vegetables, jalapenos, cilantro and mint. Some vegan sauce to put on top. Simple. I don't even need the tofu. What I wanted is exactly what I'd had MANY times at many Vietnamese restaurants. Basically "Tofu vermicelli Salad:shredded tofu mixed in roasted rice served with spicy soy sauce vinaigrette... all vermicelli bowls include: rice noodles, romaine-cabbage-cilantro mint mix, pickled daikon carrots, bean sprouts, peanuts, shallots, and spicy fish sauce vinaigrette served with your choice of pork or veggie crispy rolls" (which I don't eat because I don't do fried food.) What I got was about 3/4 of a bowl of iceberg lettuce with maybe 2 slices of carrot, some noodles and jalapeno. And it was $17.50. ALMOST $20 for some of the most flavorless boring and crap food I've ever eaten. YUCK is what I say. Now keep in mind that the very GOOD reviews of this spot are from YEARS ago. That said most of my friends said their food was very good. But I tasted my friend's peanut sauce from her salad rolls and I was SO disgusted that I couldn't believe it. I'm talking full out YUCK face. No. It was incredibly sweet. Just horrible. I AM very picky with peanut sauce but she also didn't eat it. The parking is tight so make sure to just find street parking etc. Once you're inside you're greeted with a super clean restaurant, and nice employees however was a bit confusing as to whether you had to order from the table QR code versus waiting on a waitress.
