Sausage and fried egg breakfast biscuit
    Matt P.

I checked out Lulu's Bakery And Pantry on a Saturday morning with a friend. In late May it wasn't too busy and we were able to get a two-person table inside. We ordered a pain au chocolat, cinnamon roll, pepperoni and cheese roll, and a sausage and fried egg breakfast biscuit. They offered to heat up my pepperoni and cinnamon rolls but they ended up being only lukewarm. The cinnamon roll could have used more icing and the pepperoni and cheese roll had very little pepperoni and was extremely dry. I ultimately ate the interior that had what little pepperoni was there and had to throw out the rest. I wish it would have been better, considering the prices. On another visit to Lulu's, I got a small latte that cost over $8. Clearly the prices are meant to take advantage of the September/October tourist season.

We were in Salem on the weekend and it was hot so needed beverages. Lulu's has housemade lemonade and icetea so we tried one of each. Lemonade was delicious and super dense so I actually added some water to extend it and it kept me hydrated all afternoon. We decided to have a snack as well. I got the cheese pizza square which was a little weak and getting dried out since it was around 2pm so that wasn't amazing but my husband had the cinnamon roll and liked the dough. It wasn't overly sweet too which we always appreciate. The staff were all very friendly!

When in Salem,MA this bakery is a visit. They have a little of everything. Soups. Sandwiches, coffee, bakery items! Bagels! It can get so busy but service was great and the 2 ladies were very good! They do have gluten free items . While they do say there can be cross contamination I wish they would separate the GF goodies from the regular goodies and wouldn't place them right next to each other on the shelf/ window. It is a nice cafe/ bakery with tables to enjoy your bite!

    Lemon meringue tart

Tried the fruit tart, lemon meringue tart, and key lime tart with a lavender vanilla latte. I'd skip the fruit tart, the crust was weirdly stiff and had a strange flavor - like shortening that was a bit off. The other citrus tarts were solid and the crust had the crumbly buttery graham texture I expected. The latte was lovely - herbal and not too sweet. Space is open and airy with great light and had a small showcase for some local art. Service was fast and attentive. Nice place to grab a treat and catch up with a friend.

I really enjoyed this sandwich, the service, and this was the best coffee I believe I have ever had. I wish I would have gotten something sweet for after my meal, but this was absolutely quick and delightful. I would recommend it but there is not a lot of interior seating.

    Almond croissant

I was really looking forward to this almond croissant. I purposely asked if there was almond paste in the middle, I was told yes. There was a few slivers of almonds but no paste !! I would have ordered something else had I not been lied to. And went back for more . The croissant it self was good , had good texture, but if I'm going to eat something so fattening , I want something that I can thoroughly enjoy . It looks like a nice clean quaint place, but after being lied to will not go back .

Was hoping to try their Italian but they packed me a tomato and cheese sandwich :( and then told me it was my uber driver who I than blamed but he only picked up one order, and my receipt is on the bag :(

Our custom two-tiered heart-shaped wedding cake!

We absolutely loved our experience with Lulu's Bakery & Pantry! They happily accepted our request to make our wedding cake, which meant so much to us. As fellow West Virginians, seeing the West Virginia University flag proudly flying in their window instantly made us feel at home and confident in choosing them. The cake itself was delicious and absolutely gorgeous, exactly what we envisioned from our Pinterest inspiration photos. Every detail was spot on, and our guests couldn't stop talking about how good it was. We couldn't have asked for a yummier or more beautiful wedding cake!

Got a cupcake here while visiting, 1 bite and straight in the trash. Beyond dry and inedible. I was shocked they sell this.

All Souls Lounge in Salem was the perfect sanctuary. It's a small, intimate spot that fills up fast, if you don't get there early, you'll be left haunting the sidewalk waiting for a table. Luckily, they offer outdoor seating, which was great for cooling off after spending two hours surrounded by ceremonial candles. The service was remarkably fast for a packed house. The cocktails were delicious and flavorful, though if you're looking to banish your inner demons in one sip, note that they aren't the absolute strongest in town. What really stole the show, however, was the food menu: they have a massive selection of gourmet grilled cheeses and hot dogs. Speaking of which: after finishing my meal, I went home inspired to attempt another quick ritual. I was trying to summon an ancient Hot Dog Spirit to bless my midnight snack cravings, but I mangled the Latin incantation and accidentally conjured a Grilled Cheese Ghost instead. Now my apartment smells like toasted sourdough, and there is a glowing ectoplasmic slice of melted cheddar hovering over my couch. Overall, a fantastic spot to refuel whether you're a local, a tourist, or just an exhausted practitioner of the dark arts. Highly recommend!

Over the next 20 minutes (without service or even a "come to the bar to order even though you're sitting at a table") we watched as three more couples walked in, met by the bartender (who passed by us to accomplish ) brought to a table, and then served. When the second bartender came out from around the bar, we perked up, only to find them addressing yet another couple that arrived after us. We got zero drinks, we got zero acknowledgment. For a bar that says "all souls welcome", we certainly did not feel it.

And maybe reviewing this is like reviewing a Target ... i.e. who cares. Or maybe it's jealousy because I got there on a Saturday morning and waited in ridiculous line. After 45 minutes, I had moved 1.5 car lengths with still 50 people in front of me. I guess if you are a roast beef guru, it's for you. Funny thing, I didn't even want roast beef! I finally went across the street to Brothers and had an excellent tuna sandwich.

Ughhh *insert SHOCKED face here!*…read more I am truly shocked and confused at the hype surrounding the 3-way roast beef sandwich and cult following it has as I couldn't figure out what was supposed to be so "special" about it that people wait in line so long for it... My husband and I arrived about an hour before this place opened on a Saturday, and the line for this sandwich was already forming outside. By the time we got inside, the line was down the street/around the corner! There are no sandwich sizes. It's pretty much a size "super beef" on an onion roll with the classic sauce, mayo & cheese. I watched the staff grab softball-sized handfuls of beef, pile it onto the buns and top it with sauce using a ladle. It was quite the operation! You can tell the fresh, rosy-pink, soft & flavorful beef is very high quality BUT the sandwich overall was not as impressive as I expected it to be in relation to the hype. I've had others where I was blown away by the taste/flavor after the first bite which is what I expected here, but it did not happen! Don't get me wrong, it was still a good/decent legitimate North Shore roast beef sandwich, but certainly NOT worth waiting in line for (in my opinion). You can get just as good of a sandwich (if not better) from other roast beef establishments without the lines/wait!
