Finally a place in CO that has good BBQ. I went here after it was recommended by a co-worker, and he shared a similar view of a rib place in Longmont to mine. He's also from Texas, so he's eat'n BBQ a time or two - But I wasn't hold the part about him being from Texas against him (well too much at least). I really dig the way the place is setup to look like a garage, fits a BBQ joint. The staff was friendly, however our waiter was... slow and not the most attentive person I've ever had wait on me. I wish they would have denoted that the beer we ordered came in cans, but as I said it was set up like a garage, so the cans fit - but not my favorite way to enjoy beer. Because I wanted to try a good variety of their BBQ my wife and I both ordered something different, and an appetizer. Which all of that was way too much food! However we both couldn't pass up on their fired okra - it was very good but needed a tad more salt which was easily cured at the table. We started by splitting an order of the smoked sausage. It had a very nice smoke flavor, reminded me a bit of Hickory Farms sausages. Considering they served it with mustard, I think they were going for that - but personally I think it went best with their BBQ sauce (more on that later). I ordered the brisket dinner with okra and coleslaw. The coleslaw as a bit peppery, nothing like I've had before. I really enjoyed it! The brisket however was a bit overcooked for my liking, and was starting to get flaky, but was still able to be sliced and not just fall apart; but this gave it a bit of a corned beef texture. It was later in the evening, so it is very possible this is just because it was kept warm for a long time. However the flavor was very good, and it wasn't unnecessarily fatty. My wife ordered the pulled pork dinner, with okra and green bean casserole. She said it was the best green bean casserole she's ever had (I hate the stuff). The pulled pork was... AWESOME!!! Really, some of the best I've had. One thing I found odd was that they only had 1 BBQ sauce. It was a very good BBQ sauce, and went well with everything. However it was a sweeter BBQ sauce, so if you like them spicier then I think you'll be disappointed. I admit I was disappointed that they didn't have a spicy one, but the one they had was very good. OOO And unlike that Longmont place, the BBQ sauce is on the table so you can use as much as you want... like it's supposed to be. Why 4 Stars? The combined total of the over cooked brisket, the slow service and the lack of but 1 BBQ sauce makes this a 4 star place. Honestly though, the 1st two will likely vary over time, but with out a little more variety in their BBQ sauces I can't every give them 5 stars. I will however go back to this place when I don't have the time to smoke my own BBQ or am suddenly in the mood for good Q. I am looking forward to trying their ribs the next time I go. read more

I came last weekend with two friends. It was 11AM on a Saturday and there was hardly anyone in the restaurant, but there were PLENTY of flies. I get one or two but seriously there were so many flies to the point it was a nuisance, which is the main flaw of our visit and why I just can't give a super great review. Sorry :/ I got pulled pork with a side of mac and cheese because I just can never say no to some mac. Food was good! Service was great. We had a good experience here! Went in a Saturday and sad outside- cute shop in a great location! Fun atmosphere and we were sat and served quickly- food was very good BBQ place food... I had a salad with BBQ chicken on top- my husband had the beef rib special- it was pretty awesome! Boys had spicy chicken sandwich with fries etc. overall good experience- service was spotty at times as they could have used less hostesses and more wait staff! Waited a while for water and the beef rib came out about 5 minutes after the other meals- but fun lively yummy place! The frozen marg beer mixture looked amazing! read more

Today I think I entered BBQ heaven. At a lot of BBQ places you get one good thing and some others that are "just ok" and everything today was fabulous so it's earning that coveted 5th star! Was visiting Louisville for work and stopped for a quick lunch. Service at the door and at my table was super friendly and efficient. I got the 1/2 1/2 dinner - ribs and brisket. Brisket was tasty, juicy, without being overly fatty. Normally the juicy briskets have to be super fatty, so I appreciated the texture/flavor w/o relying too much on fat. Ribs were the same. Plus, my portion was perfect. Super hungry eaters may be left wanting more but I appreciated the reasonable portion (and price - only $16!) Mac and cheese - normally this is overdone or overrated, but it was perfectly creamy and I loved the corkscrew noodles Veg - Not some throwaway. It was fresh and seasoned broccoli, not some BS overly cooked or frozen veg. Again, truly hit on all cylinders. I may have REALLY good something somewhere that also has some "meh" food but everything today was on point! read more

Went on a weekday afternoon and it wasn't too crowded, which was nice. Not sure if they are busier at night or not, but would be worth a short wait if they were. Our server was great, he told us about what their specials were in detail. Which actually sold my friend on ordering the gumbo. He loved it! He also, was good on explaining the beers they had on tap. I was in from out of town and wasn't as familiar with the local beers. We started out with the fried pickles.. a must try if you are here!! I got a combo plate of brisket and chicken and both were really good. They really have their meats down. The sauce options were pretty good. I was somewhat disappointed in the original. It seemed to me that they tried to hard to make their sauces different. I liked them okay, but would have been happier with more classic options. I was wanting to try this place for awhile so we stopped in tonight to try it out. Boy what a disappointment on so many levels. The coleslaw was flat and had no flavor. Whoever slings this slop in the back, it's ok to use some salt,sugar,vinegar and pepper. The beans tasted like someone accidentally dumped a Costco sized container of chili powder in it because that's all you could taste. Now on to the Burnt Ends BBQ sandwich I ordered. The meat was all chopped up and the meat was all dried up and over cooked. I figured I would try to put the bbq sauce on BOTH sides of the sandwich to make it palatable. That didn't work because it was so dry. The waiter came to give me the check and I said I'm not paying for that. He then asked what was wrong I said it was so dry and not edible. He said I should have said something sooner and he could have brought me another sandwich with moist meat on it. I figured when he initially asked us if everything was ok and we said ehh at which point he just walked off. No thanks if you are not serving your best from the start I'm not going to complain and hope the kids making this slop in the back wouldn't do something to my food. FYI I know what burnt ends are and what just chopped up dry brisket is. I was served dry chopped brisket. For what a person pays for BBQ they should be doing a lot better. read more

I will preface this review with a disclaimer: my son and I are self-proclaimed BBQ snobs who enjoy really good BBQ and have tried many places around the greater Denver area in search of good Texas and St. Louis style BBQ. Lulu's BBQ was recommended to us by a regular, so we gave it a try, hoping to find another favorite BBQ joint to frequent. We loved the atmosphere the moment we walked in and were greeted and seated promptly. I ordered the three item sampler platter and my son ordered a two item combo. This allowed us to try four sides and all five meats on the menu. Between us we had the cowboy beans, sweet potato tots, mac & cheese and coleslaw. The sweet potato tots were greasy, loaded with additional sugar and tasted like funnel cake. The coleslaw and mac & cheese were bland and forgettable. However the cowboy beans were very flavorful and were probably the best thing we ate. As for the meats, my personal feeling is that good BBQ should be moist, seasoned and flavorful before you add any sauces. That wasn't the case here. The brisket, pulled pork and ribs were bland and dry, and the sausages tasted like brats you buy at the supermarket. The burnt ends were so tough and dry we couldn't eat them. We also had to douse the meat with sauces to give it flavor and make it edible. Perhaps we visited on an "off" day, but it was enough of an experience to convince us not to return. We gave one star for the cowboy beans and one star for the atmosphere and attentive service. read more

I used to love this place. While the vibe is still the same, ever since the pandemic, they habitually run out of SUCH a vast portion of their menu HOURS before they close. Hadn't been in 5 months bc I wanted to give them time to get situated to hopefully resolve this issue to some extent. Came back tonight with fingers crossed and, at 6:30pm, they were out of ribs, chicken, pulled pork, wings, okra... While I'm sympathetic to restaurants' post-pandemic inventory shortages, Lulu's is far and away the most-challenged re: inventory and they appear to be getting worse. Beware: before you plan a dinner outing here after 6:30pm, they will almost assuredly be out of most of nearly all of their entrees. UPDATE: as they continue to yell out items they're "86'ing," the bartender is high-giving the wait staff, all seemingly happy about it. Very disappointed, the man behind the bar was not very polite, was about 2:15 pm, and place was not very busy. It was my 1st time there and he was impatient that I did not know what I wanted. Then as he waited for me to order he started spiting in a cup because he was chewing tabaco or something. Was totally gross that he spit in a cup off to the side of the he bar. At that point I just wanted to order about anything. I wanted a pound of burnt ends to go, but he said I could only have a half pound, and wanted to know what sides I wanted. I didn't even want any sides. I quickly choose 2 so I could just get out of there. Also, parking was a hassle. I will no go back, just can not handle the spiting in a cup. Delicious! I've drove by this place and bookmarked it several months ago and finally got to experience LuLu's! Located in cute downtown Louisville this place is a lot of fun and more importantly has amazing food. My husband ordered a canned beer which came with a camo LuLu's koozie that he got to keep. I ordered the chicken and brisket platter with a side salad and Mac and cheese. The brisket melted in your mouth and the chicken was very moist and cooked perfectly. The noodles for the Mac and cheese were a little too soft for my liking but overall was good. The side salad was delicious! My husband ordered the spicy pulled chicken sandwich which I had a bite of and it was so good! The potato salad was strange and had too much horseradish sauce in it and this was the only thing we didn't like but no biggie there are tons of other side dishes to choose from. Loved the indoor/outdoor atmosphere and the service was very friendly and great! I'll be coming here more often! read more

We were seated immediately, had excellent service, and the food was actually really good. We got our food very quickly after we ordered which was very nice. We got the sampler platter with ribs, brisket, and pulled pork with the garlic mashed potatoes; it came with slaw. All of the meat was perfectly cooked, the potatoes were delicious, and the slaw had great flavor. All of the sauces were great, but we enjoyed mixing the sweet and mild with the smokin hot the best. read more

My husband and I went here for lunch. It was better than I expected. I'm not a huge BBQ fan - in fact, there's only one place I'll go for BBQ. Now there's two! I had the Hot Mess and cornbread. The only thing missing was honey for the cornbread. The sandwich was a great mix of spicy meats and coleslaw. I added more mild sauce to my sandwich and it was delicious! My husband had the nachos and was not disappointed. We shared and I couldn't stop going back for more nachos. I highly recommend this place. Good barbecue. Busy place. I went with a group (there were nine of us) on a Thursday night, and the food is pretty great. I got the spicy pulled chicken sandwich, and while there was a kick to it, it wasn't too intense (mixed feelings). The asparagus was underwhelming and could have used more seasoning, but that was easily remedied with the salt shaker. One of our group is originally from Texas, and she said it's good barbecue even by her standards, so that should tell you something. Since we were a larger group, we sat in the back where there was open seating and ordered at the bar, and my biggest issue was the timing of food. The first four of us got our food very quickly, but then the rest of our group didn't get any food until the rest of us had finished eating for a while. One girl placed an order to go before the second half of the group had gotten their food, and we all had to wait around for about half an hour for them to finish that order as well. Overall, it was a good place that wasn't terribly expensive. Just don't go if you have any time constraints. read more

A big group of us cyclists showed up at 1:30pm with no reservation or advance warning. The friendly staff immediately pushed some tables together to accommodate all 12 of us. The waiters were quick with the drink orders and very patient as we all had modifications to our food orders. Everyone seemed to like the meat, and the three vegetarians were thrilled to find lots of non-meat options. I had the tofu, which was hearty and savory, while my friends raved about the veggie tacos. And when it was time for the check, our waiter was again Superman - he had a portable register that printed out all the different single checks or combo checks necessary, and ran our credit cards right then and there. None of the usual awkward calculations usually associated with large groups splitting the check. It was a super-smooth ending to a wonderful lunch. I wish I lived closer to go more often! read more

I've heard great things about this local barbecue joint and yet I question if the regulars have ever had true barbecue.The service was really nice so it truly had nothing to do with the atmosphere or staff. The barbecue was quite dry and calling the ribs Texas style is a disgrace to the state itself. I really like their hot sausage links, they were spicy with lots of flavor. Ribs were good and flavored with their sweet and mild sauce. I preferred their hotter sauce and the mustard sauce was also very good. Their brisket had very little fat attached to it. Their fried okra were delicious, like tiny tatter tots. Cornbread was a little burnt, but it was good. Not to sweet, pretty good texture. Personally I like it a little more fluffy with jalapeño and honey. read more

We have been going to this place for some time now. This started as an ok bbq spot for us but has gotten much better as of late. Over the last winter I was a bit disappointed with the pulled pork as it tended to be a bit dry a stringy. However, I have noticed this summer that it has gotten significantly better. It is now pulled chunks of pork that are juicy and tender. I have always loved their sides. This place is not gourmet but it is exactly what you would expect in a bbq joint. My kids love the mac-n-cheese and our go to sides are the fried okra and the sweet potato tots. Another plus is their solid beer selection. It is quite varied with a solid focus on locals. There is a nice outside seating area up front for enjoying the fresh air and people watching. It's also a good spot if you have brought your canine friend along. Out back there is a play area with games of corn hole set up. It's touch for me to go to other spots in Louisville as this has something for all the family as well as good prices and service. read more

Since moving out to the great state of CO, I have had this BBQ craving that never quite gets fulfilled. I will spend months, MONTHS, dreaming of a perfect pulled pork sandwich with a yummy, tangy bbq sauce dripping out of the sandwich. I have tried many places out here and will never believe anyone who says the West knows how to do BBQ. Unless the owners of the joint are from somewhere that knows how to cook pork right. Lulu's meets the ticket, for sure y'all. The place is small and the hostess is difficult to find, at best. At worst, I think she was pretty overwhelmed and didn't seem to want one more table to worry about seating. Our waiter was personable, but very very forgetful. Buuuuut, he'd worked a long day and really? The barbecue was the best I've had outside of Memphis. That dude could have been throwing my drinks on me and I would have been happy. Which brings me to the margaritas. The waiter talked me into getting a blended margarita, which I never do. Never. I like my margs on the rocks and STRONG. He talked and talked about how they use top notch liquor, how the margarita has a unique texture, etc. Then he brought it out to me. It was the size of a child's cup. No, I take that back. It was the size of a thimble. For real. So, don't make my mistake. Don't get the blended marg; it's barely big enough for two sips. Bottom line, go to Lulu's! Or, actually don't. I heard great things about LuLus. Billed as Texas BBQ I was excited to try it out. The place has a cool vibe, but the BBQ didn't cut it. We started with smoked wings. They were good but not served very hot. I had brisket and sausage. The BBQ had average bark and very little flavor. It was also not very hot. As another dinner wrote, the sausage was over processed and mealy. My wife said the pulled pork lacked flavor as well. My son had the smoked meatloaf which he said was very good. I had a side of green beans which were very good as well. I really didn't like the sauces. They were more Kansas City than Texas. Overall the food was just average and on the expensive side. The service was good and the atmosphere was lively. For better Texas BBQ try Rudy's in Greeley or Springs. read more

We had the best time at Lulu's BBQ last night. We were looking for a good spot in Louisville for a celebratory dinner after a day of apartment hunting in Boulder. We added our names to the list, expecting a 30-minute wait. After 50 minutes, we were seated. The long wait left me a little disappointed, but the man in charge seated us himself and offered to buy our first round of drinks. From that moment, I was in love. The waitress was awesome and she reiterated that the deal for a free round of drinks was solid. As a gin lover, I opted for the Moody Mule (gin, ginger beer, lime). Since the drink comes in those awesome Moscow Mule mugs, she asked to hold onto my ID as insurance against possible theft of the cool mug. I couldn't stop from laughing - it's a sad state of affairs when there's rampant mug theft. Come on, folks! Manners, please?! Leave their mugs alone. Sadly, I'm cursed with vegetarianism, so while we shouldn't have wound up at a BBQ joint, they offered smoked tofu and I was sold. Shockingly, they did the impossible - and made ordering tofu feel cool. Kudos! The outside of the tofu was crispy and the mild sauce they smothered it in was perfect. I complemented that with their tangy cole slaw and creamy mashed potatoes. (Note: The choice of mashed potatoes was solely to give me license to try out the 3 BBQ sauces they offer.) My partner got the beef brisket - completely with a perfect smoke ring - and the sausage alongside cornbread and fried okra. Everything was to his satisfaction. We used to live in North Carolina and have high expectations for BBQ (as many posting here do). While the BBQ wasn't as good as the BBQ we were both raised on, we still have to give awesome props to the kitchen crew for bringing us quality BBQ in Colorado. A rare, but much appreciated feat. For what it is - and where it is - they do it well. I get why the place is packed. But how could I forget the fried pickles? Man, it's been a while since we had some serious fried pickles. The breading was well spiced and their homemade ranch worked perfectly with them. Again, have we had better? For sure. But considering how many crummy plates of fried pickles we have had in this lifetime, Lulu's BBQ still lands in the top tier. The service, the food, and the atmosphere were all better than we had imagined. We look forward to coming back - and bringing a hungry crew, too. read more

After struggling to find something in this state (CO) that resembles authentic smoked meats and wood fired BBQ, I'm happy to say my search is over. I had completely written off Colorado as a BBQ state. Even as a native, I had no love for it and had enough eating either dry over sauced shit, or boiled flavorless shit some restaurants try and pass off as BBQ. Lulu's is different; it is REAL, smoked up to 18 hours Texas style BBQ that can be cut with a spoon. If you're serious about BBQ and tired of people trying to pass off boiled or baked meat with sauce as BBQ you NEED to check out Lulu's. It is by far the BEST in the state...believe me I've searched and searched. Don't let the smoked Tofu on the menu scare you (we are talking Boulder County here). Go straight for the Brisket!
