The Publick House is, by far, the best restaurant in Lafayette. Others come close if you're craving other foods, but you really can't beat the wonderful and simple food that William Oliver's offers. To start off- it's a pretty simple location. It's actually quite easy to miss with Teocalli having way more business just one street down. It's got a lovely interior with lots of wood and a nice rooftop patio. Walking in, I wouldn't think much of it. The menu is relatively simple with some appetizers, salads, hot dogs, sandwiches, and some other things. Where this place shines is their bacon, and by extension their sandwiches. Multiple people I've gone with have said the JGBLT is the best sandwich they've ever had. It's certainly up there for me, just behind panino I've had in Italy. It's nothing complicated, but each part of the sandwich is so well done that the finished product is understated and overwhelming. So good. It's also the perfect portion, every time. It doesn't seem to matter how hungry I am when I come in. They have an excellent beer list with lots of things to choose from. The whiskey menu is absolutely insane, and the whiskey flights are necessary to digest it. A small thing that is really nice- their sodas. It's not just coca cola or Pepsi products- they have craft sodas, which are really excellent. Additionally, you can get their non alcoholic cocktails for the same price as just a soda, which is lovely. The daily specials are always fantastic and a good way to get something unexpected. I will be extremely sad when I have to move from Lafayette, as this restaurant is one of my favorites in the world.

William Oliver's is a cozy little place to grab a great beer or whiskey drink. As for the food, it's okay; it sounds better on paper. Nearly everything we ordered was just okay. The Brussels were undercooked and kind of hard, and the sandwiches were good but not great. We did come toward the end of the night, so this might have been part of the problem, but the drinks and service were excellent. I'll probably return just to have a couple of drinks.

I'm going to keep this one simple. Great food, great staff, fantastic atmosphere at fair prices. The food is extremely fresh and flavorful. Their Chicago dog put me right back in the Windy City. Everything was so tasty and their pickle was amazing. Wish I was back in Lafayette to go there weekly.

This was our first time at a William Oliver's Publick House and I can honestly say that, if we lived closer, it could easily be a regular hangout for us. We arrived here around 1:15pm on a Saturday and had no problem getting seated. There weren't many other people there so plenty of open tables and we opted to sit outside. The onside looked beautiful but the weather was too enticing with lots of sunshine and no wind. We were seated at a two person table that wasn't too close to another and had ample shade. It was clean and road noise was at a minimum as it's a side road so no issues there. Our wait person, Michael, was very prompt and cordial and delivered our drinks with appetizer ( the pickled eggs & cajun chips) out to us very quickly. The pickled eggs were good and tasted like there was some chili pepper in the brine which did not make them hot but did give the eggs a chili pepper flavor which was pretty good. This isn't a brew pub with whiskey being their primary libation (they have alot of whiskeys) however, their beer selection on tap and canned was about 20 in all and they have a red blend and white wine that are exclusive to their brand. Also a couple seltzer and a cider that are listed on the menu. Overall, as a beer drinker I was not disappointed. For food we ordered the JGBLT which was very good and the Sweet & Spicy Pork Belly sandwich which was absolutely delicious. The pork belly was cooked perfectly so that it melted in my mouth and had that sweet brulee crust on it to balance with the Sriracha feta slaw both adding a cripness that made it so satisfying to chew. Such a good sandwich! The JGBLT was also very fresh and delicious. We just had kettle chips and a salad for sides which were good as well. The staff we dealt with were all very friendly and kept the atmosphere light and casual yet were professional in there work at the same time. We were very pleased with this location and would definitely come back here if in the area again.

Went on a Sunday around 4 p.m. and wanted to sit outdoors before it got too cold. Not too many customers. Service was great! Everyone's order was perfect and margaritas were delicious! We had a 4 & 7 year old with us so the hotdogs were a welcomed sight. Will go back soon!

Do yourself a favor and enjoy a custom cocktail and some good food right in downtown Lafayette! Thursday night just before a holiday weekend and the place was hopping, only seating was a high top in the bar. Drinks were tasty and the food was solid. Hummus plate appetizer - the roasted red pepper hummus was the best I've had and the warm pita triangles - perfection! The Sweet Chili Tacos - get them loaded - were also a pleasant surprise. Yes they were sweet but in such a flavorful way that I could not help but eat all 3! The jackfruit sandwich is a great veggie option with a side salad. Service was good - friendly and knowledgeable and we got a card for our next visit - a free flight of the month or piece of pie. How can you go wrong with that?

Soo much better than the strip-shopping exterior would imply! The Bacon-Wrapped Jalepenos were spicy (duh!), but crisp and very tasty! The Cajun Bar Nachos came in a bowl; required a fork to eat it. Two of our party tried pulled-pork entrees, and were pleased. The Getting Piggy With It & The Hammer were both excellent entree choices!! Good variety of whiskey flights and beers. My Irish Smash Lemonade (house drink) was fantastic; light enough for a warm day, with a breezy flavor. (No whiskey aftertaste!). Highly recommend you try this place!

Ok. I will come back. Love the vibe. Great cocktails. 5 star cocktails and service. Cool little menu. Ordered William Oliver's (Slaw) Dog Feta coleslaw, jalapeno ranch, capers, and cajun spice on a poppy seed bun. Great idea. The hotdog was not cooked through. Cold in the middle. Ordered Mac and cheese with it as well. It was not hot. For those reasons I give it 3 stars. Poor execution on the food!

Our waitress was amazing - friendly, made great recommendations, and talked us through the menu, answer all of our questions thoroughly. We ordered the streak tartare app, clearly a staff favorite and they put a unique twist on the standard dish with mushrooms and a divine Dijon mustard sauce. The bread was baked to perfection - crunchy but soft all at the same time. My friend got the salmon, cooked to medium and I got the Jamaican jerk chicken which was not very spicy and contained a lot of flavor. The mango chutney and green mojo combo was complex and paired well with the chicken. My friend devoured she salmon so one can only assume it was delicious! She consistently misses the mark on basic customer service. She rarely acknowledges guests, seems far more focused on making drinks than paying attention to the people sitting in front of her, and creates an overall unwelcoming atmosphere. On my most recent visit, I sat waiting for nearly 15 minutes without being acknowledged. It wasn't until I asked for my check because I was ready to leave that she suddenly asked if I was planning to eat. That level of inattentiveness is frustrating and completely avoidable. It's especially disappointing because the location is fantastic, the vibe is great, the food is consistently excellent, and every other bartender and staff member I've interacted with, including the manager, has been amazing. There are some truly great bartenders there who provide attentive, friendly service and make the experience enjoyable. But if I walk in and see her behind the bar, I will not stay. She has completely turned me off from being there when she is working. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, because the rest of the team and the overall experience deserve better than this one recurring issue. I am giving this review one star simply because of the continued experience with her.

The salad greens, tomatoes and quinoa add a great balance of textures. The "spring greens" this time of year has specialties I cannot duplicate in a grocery store as their greens come from local gardens where they have access. Besides these ready to eat items, for in house or take out, there are plenty of fresh meat options at the butcher counter and specialty prepared meat items like the lamb meatballs with Spanish seasonings, ready to cook and in the freezer case. Fortunately, it is close to our home and the reviews looked great. When we arrived, we redirected from the main dining room to another space the restaurant owns 2 doors down. I wonder if we may have had a more attentive experience had we been in the original? The first disappointment was that our meal took 40 minutes to arrive from the time that we sat down. Our waiter consistently forgot that my husband had ordered a Diet Coke or to refill the drink when he had offered. The tables around us seemingly were served earlier, even though we all placed our orders around the same time. I ordered the Thai Pork Belly Benedict, which was absolutely delectable and definitely something write home about! And the country potatoes side was perfectly seasoned and crispy. I would absolutely go back for this, just maybe on a weekday brunch due to the wait. I thought it was extremely unique how the children's menu was plated in a muffin tin, with 6 different food choices for just $12. Great deal! My husband had a Belgian waffle topped with fruit, which was really unremarkable. Reminiscent of something that you might self-make at a hotel breakfast. Unfortunately, his waffle was cold, and he requested that they remake, which our server made sure was done in a timely manner. All in all, our meal was very reasonably priced at around $43. I just wish it hadn't been such a long wait, both to receive the initial order and for drink refills.

Unfortunately, this visit was completely different. The service was extremely disappointing from start to finish. We waited about 20 minutes just for drinks and eventually had to go up to the bar ourselves. When we asked about it, the bartender simply said, "I'm working on it," which was frustrating given how long we had already been waiting. There were 4 tales in the restaurant and like 8 employees Things did not improve from there. Our food came out very slowly and one of the meals had to be sent back. We ended up having to go to the bar multiple times, including for a to go box and even to get our check, because no one was checking on our table. To make matters worse, the menu states that guests are asked to limit their visit to 90 minutes. However, due to the slow and inattentive service, we were there for nearly two hours through no fault of our own. There also used to be a sense of customer service here, which seems to have changed. To top it off, gratuity was automatically added without it being mentioned or explained. That felt especially inappropriate considering we ended up doing a large portion of the service ourselves. It's like they figured they were getting auti gratuity so didn't provide any service Really disappointing experience overall. Not sure what changed, but this was a huge step down from our previous visit.
