If I'm spending $16 on a bowl, it shouldn't be the size of a side dish. My daughter got the plain baked potato and I was just expecting it to be much bigger than it was for the price. The Publick House is, by far, the best restaurant in Lafayette. Others come close if you're craving other foods, but you really can't beat the wonderful and simple food that William Oliver's offers. To start off- it's a pretty simple location. It's actually quite easy to miss with Teocalli having way more business just one street down. It's got a lovely interior with lots of wood and a nice rooftop patio. Walking in, I wouldn't think much of it. The menu is relatively simple with some appetizers, salads, hot dogs, sandwiches, and some other things. Where this place shines is their bacon, and by extension their sandwiches. Multiple people I've gone with have said the JGBLT is the best sandwich they've ever had. It's certainly up there for me, just behind panino I've had in Italy. It's nothing complicated, but each part of the sandwich is so well done that the finished product is understated and overwhelming. So good. It's also the perfect portion, every time. It doesn't seem to matter how hungry I am when I come in. They have an excellent beer list with lots of things to choose from. The whiskey menu is absolutely insane, and the whiskey flights are necessary to digest it. A small thing that is really nice- their sodas. It's not just coca cola or Pepsi products- they have craft sodas, which are really excellent. Additionally, you can get their non alcoholic cocktails for the same price as just a soda, which is lovely. The daily specials are always fantastic and a good way to get something unexpected. I will be extremely sad when I have to move from Lafayette, as this restaurant is one of my favorites in the world. read more

This was our first time at a William Oliver's Publick House and I can honestly say that, if we lived closer, it could easily be a regular hangout for us. We arrived here around 1:15pm on a Saturday and had no problem getting seated. There weren't many other people there so plenty of open tables and we opted to sit outside. The onside looked beautiful but the weather was too enticing with lots of sunshine and no wind. We were seated at a two person table that wasn't too close to another and had ample shade. It was clean and road noise was at a minimum as it's a side road so no issues there. Our wait person, Michael, was very prompt and cordial and delivered our drinks with appetizer ( the pickled eggs & cajun chips) out to us very quickly. The pickled eggs were good and tasted like there was some chili pepper in the brine which did not make them hot but did give the eggs a chili pepper flavor which was pretty good. This isn't a brew pub with whiskey being their primary libation (they have alot of whiskeys) however, their beer selection on tap and canned was about 20 in all and they have a red blend and white wine that are exclusive to their brand. Also a couple seltzer and a cider that are listed on the menu. Overall, as a beer drinker I was not disappointed. For food we ordered the JGBLT which was very good and the Sweet & Spicy Pork Belly sandwich which was absolutely delicious. The pork belly was cooked perfectly so that it melted in my mouth and had that sweet brulee crust on it to balance with the Sriracha feta slaw both adding a cripness that made it so satisfying to chew. Such a good sandwich! The JGBLT was also very fresh and delicious. We just had kettle chips and a salad for sides which were good as well. The staff we dealt with were all very friendly and kept the atmosphere light and casual yet were professional in there work at the same time. We were very pleased with this location and would definitely come back here if in the area again. read more

I love this venue. The bourbon and whiskey selection is outstanding, and the beer lineup is solid as well. They also offer a few good wines, though that part of the menu would benefit from some thoughtful improvement. The owner is genuinely funny -- and even though he's MAGA (which I usually can't tolerate), he somehow turns political conversations into something entertaining rather than exhausting. First time at William Oliver's - the pig says it all! Most of their meals are pork based - not a bad thing! I got the Sweet and Spicy Pork Belly sandwich and let me tell you - AMAZING! The waitress explained how the texture would be along with the glazing that's fired on top making for a delectable taste and experience! I have to mention my cocktail - the Swizzle! Wow! During my first visit to Lafayette, we decided to give this place a try. I'm glad we did. This is a cute little restaurant with a patio in the front and a roof-top patio as well. It also had a bit of indoor seating and even a room that looked like it could be reserved for private events. We decided to sit outside and have a few drinks and try some apps. We ended up ordering the large soft pretzels & nachos for our items. They were delicious. The pretzel came out hot and soft and accompanied by both mustard & queso. We gabbled them down pretty quickly. As far as the nachos, they also had great flavor & and we finished them off quite fast as well. I do think the portion size of the nachos could have been bigger and had more toppings, but the quality was good, so it made up for the smaller portion. Loved this place. Husband loves bacon and bourbon and it has been on my list for awhile now. Jalapeño poppers were awesome. The appetizer of bacon and syrup wasn't anything to write home about (ordered more for the kiddo). Tried the maple bourbon bacon dog and it was suuuuper salty. It overpowered every other flavor. Loved all the combinations there and will definitely comeback. The only downside for me was the noise. It's a public house so it comes with the territory but my husband has trouble hearing with lots of ambient noise (thanks to the military) so I would much rather sit on the patio outside next time! read more

Overall a nice place, but the music was a bit intense for a lunch setting. It was hard to enjoy our time there with some musician screaming at us every now and then. My beer and my wife's cocktail were good. The potato salad, pickled eggs and house salad were also good. The JGBLT sandwich had some issues though. It seems like the sandwich was assembled, then placed in an oven. The crust was over cooked and too crispy, and the ends of the bacon were burnt to a crisp. I make a sandwich similar to this but after I slice open the bun I grill the open halves in butter which leaves the crust moist and soft. Maybe we just got a bad sandwich. Hopefully they're not all like what we got. Our server provided good service, but he could have turned up the friendliness a bit. read more

I would probably have ordered another one and stuffed myself if it wasn't already 9 pm. The accompanying chips were great. The family had two different sorts of tacos and wolfed them down, saying they were very tasty. Service was nice and friendly. I didn't get to try the liquor selection but it appeared to be comprehensive. Poor service and rude treatment by the bartender on Sunday April 6th. My wife and I went in to get dinner and a beer at around 6:15pm. This location has always been great, quick service, quick food, get dinner and drink and head home after a long day. We sat at the bar, there was one other couple sitting at the end of the bar talking with the bartender. We looked at the beer listing on the wall and waited. In the meantime the bartender was busy chatting up the couple at the end of the bar, trying to sound all smart about cars and money and alternators. A guy walked up to the bar, the bartender immediately went to him, got him a beer, walking right past us. Then went back to talking up the couple at the end of the bar. My wife and I waited, then another pair of people came to the bar, sat a couple of seats to the right of us, the bartender then got two menus, walked over to the other people, handed them menus. Never acknowledged us, never asked us if we wanted a beer, a menu or anything else, headed back to the people he was chatting up and trying to sound important to at the end of the bar. I got up, made a comment and we left, I asked for a manager but it appears there wasn't one on site. My wife said he made a rude comment to her as we were leaving. I was livid, asked for a manager but was getting no response so we left and went somewhere else. Unbelievable that in this day and age that a bartender would be this rude. The strange thing is we have had this bartender wait on us several times before with no issues. Not sure what his deal is but of course with no phone on site, I can't call and talk to a manager but my guess is they don't want to talk to me. We go there on a regular basis, but I guess they don't think our business is that important even though we live in Lafayette. read more

WO's is my local. I kinda want to hate William Oliver's because their vibe turns me off ("Rustic" decor! Everyone wears a vest! Bacon!), but here's the deal: it's hands-down the best bar Lafayette has to offer. They have a lot of whiskey. They have pint glasses full of (kinda rubbery) bacon. You can get drunk for cheap, or for expensive. It's open very late. The servers are all friendly and quick.
