Meh, came here with the hubby for dinner early Sunday evening. I ordered a grilled veggie burrito add avocado and retried beans, beef fajitas for the hubby, chips to start. Tried the salsas at the bar, happy to say there was done heat in a couple of them. The rest had no flavor. Food came quickly, My burrito was wrapped and felt hot, a good sign. Unfortunately I didn't care for it. It was mostly sweet carrots. The veggies seemed to be steamed and then heated on the grill, no grill marks or char to give it any flavor and they weren't hot. After about half of of it I picked the veggies out and just ate the tortilla and beans, sad face. The hubbys plate was ok, they didn't ask if he wanted corn or flour tortillas just gave him corn which he doesn't care for. One extra star for replacing them quickly with no hassle. The beef was square strips of over cooked steak with zero flavor. While I'm glad we tried it I don't think we'll be back. read more

I really like it, however anything that you order that is a "mini"size...they aren't kidding its smaller than a kids portion so seriously just order regular its not worth the price lol Ok so back to the orders. My fave so far is the Super Burrito Bowl and I love how you can taste that their food is very fresh. My kids are so picky and the fact that they get to pick their ingridient's in their quesadilla or burrito kids meal is such a plus. Again i love how fresh their food is. Their agua frescas are sooooo good and fresh especially on a hot day. I also recommend the chips and guac so yummy. I really can't wait to actually go in and sit down and have dinner. Overpriced and small portion sizes. Size of the same veggie burrito we ordered was different each time , chips we paid for had a bad fishy aftertaste ( like it had been made in old oil reused many times). People taking orders are always messing up, not paying attention to details / making their own decisions /choices about the sides without checking with customers. So I've only had the al pastor super burrito here but it was so good that I had it twice in a week. And I was only visiting for a week. The size is huge, enough that I shared it with my eating mate. Not coming back here. This is the quality of Mexican food I would expect from someone who has never had Mexican food before. Even the salsa was tasteless - it was basically just salty water with tomatoes and onions. I also ordered a carne asada taco and a pollo asado taco. Both meats were cut into weird, flat square bits and looked like they had been boiled past death and then briefly heated in a skillet. They tried to cover this with a mound of iceberg lettuce and a cream sauce (yes, on chicken and supposedly carne asada tacos). Mountain View and Sunnyvale both have much better options. read more

I ordered a burrito bowl here Saturday night about 7:00. It was not a terribly busy time but my order came up sooner than I expected. When I got home (a 5 minute drive), I found out why. The contents were totally cold. It must have been sitting out on a counter for an hour before they sold it to me. It was gross! There is no excuse for doing this two a take-out customer. This is a nice, clean, and casual place to have lunch or dinner at for a reasonable price in this area. I ordered a fish taco for around $5.00. It comes with your choice of either grilled shrimp or fish. I chose the fish option. I think that they use tilapia fish which I'm not to fond of, but there was nothing wrong with the fish itself. The taco came with more veggies on it than it normally does at most places. It had some avocado on it which was great. To cut down on the fat & calories, I asked for the chipolte sauce on the side. They put it on the side like I asked them to-:) It was to rich for my taste as it was creamy. The food came out fairly quick. That was O.K as they have a salsa bar there with at least seven types of salsa and toppings or more. I got a little of almost everything from the hot sauces to the mild ones. I love spicy food, but the hot salsa there was so spicy, that I had to drink at least five cups of cold water. Thank goodness that the water was out there by the salsa and that it had ice in it! Since that didn't stop the burning sensation in my mouth, I had to ask for a cup of ice and suck on that for awhile. If you're not driving, then perhaps it'd be a good idea to get an ice cold margarita or beer if you're going to have any of the hot salsa! They also serve breakfast here. There are some seats in the back near the bathroom if you'd prefer to eat in a more private or quiet area. There are also a few seats outside in the back of the restaurant. read more

It was mehh. I had a mini super burrito with extra avacado on the side for $7. It seems a bit much for a tiny burrito. The taste was OK... Next time I'll take my hungry stomach to Chipotle. Oh! They have a large salsa bar with a lot variety. I loved the pickled veggies (cucumber and cauliflower)! Downside is that you must buy the chips :( They give you a little of chips with your meal but not enough to fully enjoy the salsa bar. read more

Solid. At least for Los Altos. Incidentally both of my lunch orders (on separate days, thank you) involved tortilla chips, and the ones at Lulu's are pretty freshly made. I ordered the chilaquiles verde the first time, and it sort of was a muddled mess. I have mixed feelings about this - it wasn't bad. In fact, it was pretty tasty, but it looked so unappetizing I just ended up mixing everything up, closing my eyes, and shoveling it into my mouth. (By the way, if you check in on Yelp here, you get free chips & salsa with orders over $7 or something - but I'd pass on this unless you have your own salsa, because their pico was really mushy and kind of weird-tasting) Second time I had an odd hankering for nachos, so I ordered a small (plenty for just one person) with carne asada. Great all around - I'd eat this every day if I didn't have an aisle to walk down in 5 months. They're pretty fast, and service is pretty good. If you're eating around lunch time, I recommend calling ahead to pick up your order, otherwise you risk getting stuck in line. read more

Ah where do I even begin. I have been to Lulus a handful of times. My returns have never been because I was so impressed, but simply because I felt like Mexican food and this was the option. First off: the prices are high for mexican food. AND they do not even give you chips with your burrito. You have to pay extra for them. Second: The salsas are not very good. My husband is not a picky eater at all, and loves spicy food and I believe his comment about the spicy jalapeno salsa was "That's gross, don't eat it". Lastly, my latest experience, which explains my two star rating: I popped in to order take out for us on a Friday night. My husband wanted shrimp fajitas, I ordered a mini burrito, and I also ordered what was supposed to be free chips and salsa with a yelp deal. I got home and a) my husband had a lovely plate of CHICKEN fajitas, b) I checked the receipt and I had actually PAID for my free chips and salsa and c) my mini burrito was supposed to have guac and sour cream and it did not. *** I did check the receipt to make sure that what we ordered was what was rung into the computer, and indeed it said SHRIMP fajitas and specified about my burrito. So, I called Lulus and was put on hold for awhile before the manager got on the phone, apologized and offered us a credit for another visit. Ok, that seemed like a fair trade, although at this point I was very irritated. Went back last night to use my credit, and I was happy, the did have my info on file. My husband ordered the shimp fajita burrito, with green sauce on top. I ordered the chile relleno burrito, no salsa fresca, add guacamole. What did we get?? My husband's order was correct. Mine, INCORRECT. Mine had salsa fresca and no guacamole. UGH. There is clearly a disconnect with the kitchen reading the tickets because once again my order was placed properly by the cashier as shown on my receipt and yet again, incorrect once I got home. For $29 for two burritos, you could at least get the order right. So yeah, Lulus has lost a customer. Their food is bland, service just ok, and do not count on a correct order. Recently, I've become very picky with my Mexican food. A business trip to Santa Monica turned into some of the best Mexican food I've had in a while. After my return, I was inspired to give Lulu's a shot. While I really enjoy Chipotle Mexican Grill's concept, food quality, commitment to deliver the freshest ingredients whenever possible, and experience, I sometimes seek a more diverse portfolio of menu items to choose from. I came in during a busy lunch service on a Tuesday afternoon. Little did I know it would take 20 minutes to get a simple burrito!! Lulu's offers many more different choices for meat, beans, and rice than leading nationwide competitors like Chipotle Mexican Grill. I was excited to build a unique burrito to fill my growling stomach after a long morning at the office (the copier broke down and shorted out a computer). After clearly stating my order, the cashier seemed confused. It took about three clarifications to get my order right. As I waited for my burrito, I anticipated the upcoming flavor experience. The descriptions on the menu board had me hoping for succulent, tasty beef that would take my taste buds on a roller coaster down to Latin America. Unfortunately, my dreams and aspirations did not come true. After literally 20 minutes and lots of waiting, my burrito was finally ready. As I indulged in my first bite, I experienced the bland, luke-warm steak pieces, uninspiring chunky mild salsa, and heavy Spanish rice. Perhaps one of the weirdest items in the burrito was the guacamole. At first, it tasted fresh and creamy (just the way I like it!). However, I soon discovered it had the consistency of a heavy, saturated sauce rather than the texture or creamy, fresh Real California Haas Avocados. I'm glad Lulu's took the initiative to offer the Los Altos community a Mexican option in the downtown area. However, I definitely recommend heading to Chipotle Mexican Grill instead. This place serves expensive and small portion plates. First time I came here, I tried one of the $11.95 salad. The resulting salad was half the size of similar prized salad at other restaurants. A few months later, I decided to give it a second try. This time I ordered the $7.50 enchiladas. Once again, the enchiladas were as small as the size of a taquito. I took a picture of it with a fork alongside as a reference: it is only 2/3 the length of the fork! Lulu's is shiny and new. How could I not try it? I'm glad I did. The menu has great selection of items - burritos, tacos, salads, soups, appetizers, kids menu, and even breakfast. Prices aren't bad either, considering the location is in ritzy downtown Los Altos. My hubby and I shared the super burrito w/chicken ($8.75) and two chicken soft street tacos ($2.95 each). Everything tasted fresh and delish...except for the tacos corn tortillas. They were dry and stiff. They were "fresh" alright - "fresh out of the bag." Lulu's is casual dining. You order at the counter and your number is called when your food is ready. The service was ok...I can't blame the girl behind the counter for being distracted by the customer who had ordered before me, then decided to change his order mid-way through MY order. But that's a Los Altos "thing", not a Lulu's thing. Overall, I'm excited Lulu's has arrived. It's a great place for fresh Mexican food, and the newest member of our family's take-out rotation. read more

Mexican is something Los Altos does not represent well. We need to get some down and dirty taquerias in there, but Im sure the city would not allow it. Lulu's a formed of safer Mexican at least is breaking the barrier. An Al Pastor quesadilla plus tamale plate is pretty decent actually. Not Redwood City Mexican good, but better than nothing. I was surprised the crema was actually fairly rich and tasty. let's hope this is a good sign for the forward progress of the cuisine in the area. 3.5 stars read more

This is the most bland food I've had in a long time. 14$ dollar burrito, didn't fill me up, and came with the most depressing side of chips I've seen. No seasoning at all. The only thing I've tried and liked is the Lulu's chopped salad. Their fish tacos are awful and their fajita burritos are bland. Unfortunately, the past few times I've ordered the chopped salad, they have gotten the order wrong or it has not tasted the same. Lulu's is still the king of Mexican food in the area! All of the meats are delicious and unique - the grilled chicken, the el pastor, and abinil are my favorites. The burritos are huge. The rice is incredibly simple but flavorful. Their refried beans are addictive. The fajitas and chimichangas are also delicious. And the chicken tortilla soup is the best I've ever had. The whole family loves the food here and we have it every weekend. First time trying Lulu's. Sadly disappointed. Got the taco salad with carne asada. It was no exaggeration 90% shredded iceberg lettuce. Less than a quarter cup of carne asada. Only three small cubes (not slices) of avocado. Paid $15 for literally lettuce in a tortilla bowl. Two stars because the minuscule amount of carne asada did taste good and the tortilla shell was crispy. I wanted to love this place because fast casual/takeout places are kind of sparse around here but so sadly disappointed. Been there many times because my girls like the soft tacos...the major issue is the inconsistency in what you get on your plate or togo box. It's a simple order of street tacos(2), rice and beans as on the menu. Sometimes a taco is missing, rice missing, hardly any beans and tonight beef jerky type carne asada. I would have given this place a 4 star rating on my first dine-in visit. The al pastor and carne asada tacos were fresh,juicy, and flavorful. Soup was a little on the greasy side but the chip was crunchy and the sauce and pickle bar made up for it. The second to-go visit. Ugh. They were a little busier during weekend lunch. Everything was wrong: Took over 20 mins to get my food. They started to plate everything only to realize it was to go. They proceeded to disgustingly shove food from the plate into boxes. Food/sauce was left behind on the plate and for some reason, portion looked smaller the my last visit. When I told the person who handed me my food, they weren't very sympathetic about it. They didn't get the order right, but only found out until I got home. Don't get to-go here. I think dine-in is much better. read more

This new taqueria just opened in Downtown Los Altos and it seems like a good addition to the neighborhood with it's walk up counter. It's definitely a very convenient place to go for burritos and tacos or whatever else you may be craving. Everything that they offer is fresh and made on the spot. I ordered the Lo Carb Burrito with Carne Asada and it was a pretty good sized burrito, about 12" long. The whole wheat tortilla was filled with meat, cheese, pico de gallo, lettuce and guacamole. It was the perfect size for my appetite. I originally intended to only eat half, but ended up eating the whole thing. For someone with a heartier appetite, I would probably recommend one of the burritos that also has rice and beans. My sister ordered several different tacos. I took a bite out of her fish taco and that was tasty too. My rating is based on what I've tasted so far. I'm sure it'll improve after I try a few other dishes. I'm definitely looking forward to trying more of their tacos. Would I be asking for too much (in Los Altos) to be able to get a lengua taco? I suppose I may need to continue to go to Mt. SUPER BUSY sometimes but I dine in when I can and order delivery from DoorDash.com. I love their healthy menu and salads they have! Their burritos aren't as great as those in San Jose but they're the best in the area! Love their Al Pastor meat (carne is good but I like pork better). Really recommend it. read more

I see a mixture of ratings all over the map for this restaurant and feel compelled to add another 5-star rating here. I eat at Lulu's on Main Street all the time (at least once or twice / week for many months now). I have never had a bad meal there, or bad service. In fact, the food has always been quite extraordinary, in my opinion. I especially like their LoCarb burrito with the Pollo en Adobo meat on a spinach tortilla. That's a real winner. Fills you up, tastes awesome, and seems reasonably healthy. Their chips are quite good and I LOVE their salsas!!!! I really like spicy food and their spicier salsas really resonate with me (though they have mild versions there too for you spice wimps). :) The staff has always been friendly and helpful, and I like that they are open for both lunch and dinner. I am a loyal fan of this place and have taken friends there because of that! I understand that others' experience may differ (and that's okay). But, if you ask for MY opinion, you'll get a 5-star response, every time! read more

We were pleasantly surprised at the variety of dishes and types of meat options. We tried burritos, soft tacos, chimichangas and an assortment of salsas. The wait was non existent on a Saturday afternoon- the staff was friendly and courteous and the tables were clean and the atmosphere was relaxing. Overall we were impressed with the ingredients of each dish and the cantaloupe agua-fresca drink was superb. I wish LuLu's had a place down in the South Bay! We had two minor quibbles; the chips should be free for dine-in patrons and the salsa while tasty needed to have more KICK (I know it's Los Altos, but this "spicy" salsa made my kids laugh). I'll be back for sure to try some of their other dishes and for some more of that agua fresca! read more

It's a decent place to eat at. Not the best mexican you'll ever eat (I wouldn't expect it to eat the best in Los Altos, ahem) but it's enough for what you can expect. It's order at the counter style type of place, and they have a nice assorted salsa bar that's up for grabs plus self-serve cucumber water available. Nice touches. Provided "Los Altos spicy" is nowhere near spicy and borders the least of the mild of the mildest hots around, you sadly get used to it and just deal with it. The first time I came I got one of the lighter burrito options with chicken, a green tortilla, and veggies inside. Came with a nice side of chips on a platter, and they were kind enough to bring it to my table since I was sort of at the tail end of the lunch rush. It was nice and light. The second time I had a super burrito type thing that was hefty and filling. After my first visit, I check'd in after ordering and saved a yelp check-in offer for a free order of chips and salsa? pico? Whatever it was, it wasn't very impressive and was quite small for something you could potentially order on their menu. It's a nice place, just wish there was more flavor available. read more

We love LuLu's! My son, Husband and I absolutely LOVE Mexican food and can eat it everyday! We have travelled a lot and had lots of good food. Had a Nancy who was Mexican and made Authentic Mole, this was 7 years ago. until last month I never had great Mole again! Mole Rojo was AMAZING! The Salsas are great! The Margarita's are very authentic, strong and yummy! Some people did not like it, but we love that this place is very kid friendly, Of course, this is a community neighborhood restaurant and so YES we love to go out with kids there. The story and background about this restaurant is inspiring and speaks of lots of passion! Only caution: Bit Pricey Three people in other Mexican place like La Salsa or even Chevy's we end up paying lesser. I expect this restaurant for its location and ambiance to be a bit in between those two. Lots of people mentioned that their portion sizes are HUGE, so perhaps they can either make it bigger size for TWO or make a smaller option for a little less. Like the Mole Rojo was $13.75 and my husband and I can easily share if there was one more Tortilla and perhaps a few condiments to the side. Overall the food quality is awesome!
