$6.50 for a single fish taco? Really? And the unlimited free salsa is basically water with a hint of tomato. We came here because they have good gluten-free options, and on that end it seemed that their practices were safe. They took care to give me special chips without cross-contamination. The food is pretty expensive, given how causal the place is. The reason I am giving this one star is because both me and my friend got sick after eating there. Friendly staff that are totally overwhelmed by DoorDash orders, ruins the experience for in shop diners. I stood in line behind 4!!! DoorDash delivery people (and 2 more who were already waiting for food) and then I had to wait 25 minutes for my food while the kitchen worked on the delivery orders ahead of mine. I'm going to find another place to go that gives priority to its customers that make the effort to dine at the restaurant. I hope this restaurant likes paying DoorDash their cut and thinks that the high rent storefront kitchen supports the lower margins. read more

This place is really not that good. The food is mediocre, the service is indifferent, and the price is a rip-off. More than $10 for a below average burrito? I don't think so. If you happen to be in Los Altos, you don't have many burrito options, but there's no reason to travel to LuLu's if you are somewhere else. Stopped by yesterday for a late lunch. Have loved this place in the past. I asked about an item that used to be on the menu. The response was so rude, I couldn't tell if I was mistaken. So I clarified..."you did used to have this item, yes?" At which point, they said yes, but clearly wanted me to order and move on. This was around 2:15 - not a busy time at all. They gave me my drink with a lovely lid, but of course they only had straws for cocktails. They don't tell you that. They just send you on your way. You walk around like an idiot looking for straws. I used to love coming here. I don't want to go to an angry place. I'll look elsewhere. The two stars are because the food is pretty good still - but not worth being in a place where customers aren't people. So sad. read more

Lulu's, don't call it a "Street Taco" unless you really mean it. Street taco means an authentic Mexican taco served at a taco truck with marinated meats by someone's Abuela. I know, I wasn't expecting super authentic but the carne asada was overcooked, dry, and hard to bite into. Salsas were subpar. As for the crispy tacos, there is a such thing as TOO crispy as I have discovered here. The shells were so crispy/fried that there were bubbles all over and did not taste corn-mealy. The food at Lulu's Los Altos is consistently good. The service is not. Occasionally a young man working behind the counter wins us back with his friendliness and excellent customer service. More typically our telephone call to place a to go order is greeted with a guttural "HOLD," as the phone is slammed into permahold. Giving up after five minutes, I call again, bracing myself for the rudeness. Ultimately placing the order is miserable as the woman taking the order fails to make an effort at anything: no greeting, civility, or acknowledgement of the order nor my telephone number as someone who orders frequently. Pick up is another rude encounter with this woman who cares nothing for the customer and displays not even the most rudimentary customer service skills. I've hung in as the food is good and the off chance the nice guy will be there. After tonight, I'm done. No more. read more

I completely forgot to order lunch for my staff meeting and Lulu's catering accommodated my last minute request so graciously. I even asked for an early pick up time and they had it ready for me, packed with all the condiments and utensils I needed. The catering manager, Kimberly, was so helpful and gave me the best customer service that I've had in quite a while. She even followed up with me after my event to see if all went well, which it absolutely did. Oh yeah...and the food was great! Easy 5 stars! read more

We tried Lulu's this morning for huevos rancheros and were quite disappointed. The food quantity was ample and the ingredients (aside from the sauce) seemed fresh. The eggs were properly cooked as were the beans and rice. Unfortunately, the sauce fell far short of what we expect from a proper huevos rancheros. And the add-on sauces had not yet been set out so we couldn't adjust it. The dish was very plain. It would have benefited from a dollop of sour cream and some guacamole. Our impression was that we were eating factory food, designed for maximum production line efficiency but without much consideration for flavor or appearance. The ambience also left a lot to be desired. The room is cold, with hard surfaces and loud, high-energy music. This was too much at 8:00am. The staff was friendly, but we were not greeted warmly. There really is very little human contact in the experience. The store was not properly prepared for early customers. Doors were left open for the convenience of the staff and the room was cold. There are much better huevos rancheros experiences to be had in the area so we won't be back for this one. read more

I've had better Mexican food, but Lulu's happens to be a block away from my office, so on a busy work day like today, I like to call in and place my order for pick up. The girl who answered the phone was abrupt and not pleasant at all. I was about to ask her if chips and salsa came with the order, but she never gave me the chance and hung up on me. I ordered a SUPER burrito bowl with Cilantro rice. Instead I got a REGULAR burrito bowl (without the sour cream and guacamole that comes with the SUPER) AND I did not get the cilantro rice that I asked for. I asked for chips/salsa and apparently, that costs extra. Never had to pay for chips and salsa in any other Mexican restaurant before!!! Service could use major improvement!! read more

Finally, a fast Mexican grill in DTLA! Burritos and nachos are terrific stand-bys here (highly recommend nachos with carnitas, and the Natalie burrito), and if you haven't already tried it, the horchata is quite lovely (rice-based, cinnamony beverage). The other night I ordered five burrtitos to go, which included two super burrtitos with carne asada, and three bean /cheese/ rice options for the non-meat eaters. Sadly, the burritos served up by Lulus were bland and failed to tickle the tastebuds. The result: no-one got through more than half their burrito which is a testament admittedly to their size as well, but mainly to their less than average taste and quality since my kids usually totally demolish similar size burritos from other franchises. My son reckons it's the salsa fresca that doesn't pack enough punch; or perhaps they don't add enough. My other kid's theory is that there is just way too much cheese. My third kid's hypothesis is that Lulus has maybe simply declined in quality. Any way you cut it, these flavorless burritos were disappointing and very expensive to boot. Saturday, 11:10am...only 10 minutes after they opened...I faxed my order for 30 lunches. LuLu's on Main Street replied, "Yes. Your order will be ready in 50 minutes." I said, "See you then." And...at the promised time my 30 lunches were packaged on the counter with the names of my friends who ordered the item. Amazing! Reasonable prices for antastic fresh food with excellent customer service. LuLu's is my "go-to" place for a variety of foods I like to eat. Lulú's used to have a great salsa bar and happy employees but that's changing. From when they opened, three salsas have been eliminated but what makes me the saddest is that employees seem to be in a bad mood most of the time. LuLu's joins Chipotle as the McDonalds of Mexican food. Except, it seems a lot less thought has gone into its management. The ambiance is a zero. It's never clear where the queue for ordering is. There's no room for a queue. My order was gotten wrong 2 out of 3 times (not complicated orders). The food is slow to be prepared. Food quality is fair. Better than Taco Bell, but worse than most of the (cheaper) taquerias in the area. The plusses are the meat selection and the salsa bar (though I only really liked 1 of the salsas). I will probably go back because it is very unfortunately better than the other two Mexican options in Los Altos, and I have a 2 year old who likes cheese quesadillas. And I can still afford to spend $10 on a burrito. read more

We were pleasantly surprised at the variety of dishes and types of meat options. We tried burritos, soft tacos, chimichangas and an assortment of salsas. The wait was non existent on a Saturday afternoon- the staff was friendly and courteous and the tables were clean and the atmosphere was relaxing. Overall we were impressed with the ingredients of each dish and the cantaloupe agua-fresca drink was superb. I wish LuLu's had a place down in the South Bay! We had two minor quibbles; the chips should be free for dine-in patrons and the salsa while tasty needed to have more KICK (I know it's Los Altos, but this "spicy" salsa made my kids laugh). I'll be back for sure to try some of their other dishes and for some more of that agua fresca! read more

I have been going to LuLu's since they opened their first location on the Alameda in Menlo Park and absolutely love it. The service is friendly and the food is always fresh and delicious. I work in Los Altos and often call ahead to order during the busy lunch rush and it is so easy to run in and pick up the order. My go to is the LuLu's chopped salad. Full of chicken, fresh corn, tortilla chips, avocado, bell peppers, tomatoes and the dressing is amazing. No matter which location you go to, the food and service is consistent. The salsa, guacamole, and sauces were lackluster, the tortillas were okay, and the chips were very thick and hurt my jaw after eating 15 or so of them.
