My family loves going here. The kids menu is great and has appropriate portions for kids who aren't super young but aren't quite ready for a full meal either. We always seem to find a seat even when they are super busy. The waiters are personable and attentive. The best part is their prices. Lumber Inn is just about the only affordable restaurant in Delafield. We can feed a family of four plus drinks and some meal upgrades and not feel guilty about it after. Yesterday our bill was just over $50. In today's economy, even fast food runs about that much. But this place is no greasy spoon! read more

Stopped in to the lumber Inn in Delafield Wisconsin this morning while running errands. As usual was seated promptly and the service was quick and efficient. I decided to change up my typical morning fare for their short ribs hash special. I'm glad I did. It was absolutely delicious. Perfectly poached eggs over incredibly tender short ribs. Crispy kale and sweet potato's rounded out the hash covered by their great Hollandaise sauce. Lumber and is still one of my favorite breakfast spots in Lake country Wisconsin. read more

At my visit to Lumber Inn, I was very pleased with my experience overall. I ordered the breakfast sandwich with bacon on a croissant, and it was delicious. It came with a side of fruit which was decent, and I also got the fresh squeezed orange juice which didn't taste super fresh, but was still good. It took a bit for our food to be ordered and brought out to us, but our server was friendly and accommodating. The menu here is expansive, so be prepared to have to decide between a few options! It is also worth adding that the food, particularly regarding serving size, is very filling and hearty for the most part, so come with an appetite. The environment is cute and homey, and we went on a Wednesday morning and it was quite busy, but there wasn't any wait. Hope to visit here again soon. read more

It was a lovely diner with awesome service. Not a foodie kinda place though. Just an ordinary diner with ordinary food. I had the lumber inn skillet with the potatoes on the side and eggs over easy on top. The sirloin steak wasn't properly cleaned or cut. Some pieces were too big and some too little. It was like I got all the odds and ends of leftover meat. A lot of the pieces also had big chunks of fat or long pieces of ligament that I couldn't chew through. It was one of their pricier dishes so I expected better. Eggs were cooked perfectly. My older friend had the Patty Melt. She said you can't go wrong with this. And liked it. My FAVORITE breakfast spot! The service, food, and atmosphere simply never disappoint! It gets busy, so go early to avoid a wait however, I have never waited more then 10 minutes for a table. The inside of the restaurant is riddled with antiques and historic items about the restaurant and downtown Delafield. It is a warm inviting atmosphere and the server's are always in a great mood. I have never had an empty coffee mug or water glass. They also have a handful of tables outside, but they get snatched up pretty quickly - if you want outdoor I would say a 7:00am arrival is best for no wait. The food though...so, so good. I ordered the seafood benedict and that hollandaise sauce tops all others I have ever tried. If you love eggs benedict Lumber Inn will ruin you ability to eat it anywhere else! My son ordered the sunrise wrap and it was also very good. He had to take half home it was stuffed so full. When they ask fruit or potatoes, do yourself a favor and be unhealthy. Everyone working there is so nice and friendly. They have your typical breakfast foods, and also serve lunch options. Reasonable wait time with friendly and prompt service. Pirates were fresh and tasty like homemade. Spacious parking and bright lights. Pancakes were a little tough on the exterior but tasted ok. Poached eggs were so runny I barely ate them as they turned to yolk soup. Coffee is light so if you like strong coffee you might want to o have it black. Hand sanitizer at the table is a nice touch! We've eaten here twice now and been really happy with the meals both times. It's especially great on a nice spring/summer day to sit outside on the patio and peoplewatch. We had burgers this time; the Mushroom Swiss was amazing and I loved it, and my husband had the Canadian and really liked his as well (though the Canadian bacon was unfortunately tiny). The fries are super good. We ordered a premium bloody mary which kind of knocked my husband on his butt -- strong stuff! But loaded with little appetizers like pieces of sausage and the usual celery stalk. Very impressive. Waitstaff was terrific and we were well taken care of. Parking can be a little tricky, but finding spots a block away on a Saturday around noon was easy, and the area is really nicely walkable -- we were too stuffed from lunch to try the ice cream parlors in the area this time, so that gives us a reason to come back to enjoy The Lumber Inn again! read more

I will not be unfair with the rating but I will be honest. Traveling through, we stopped at a location in front (corner restaurant) there was another restaurant that I will not mention. They referred us to LI for reasons I do not remember, but question. Brunch. The food was good. The time it took somewhat reasonable. The server has room to improve in remembering things. To make it clear, our bill was $28 and some change. We have $40 dollars and we were going to leave a tip of $7 on the table. Strangely, she gave us a few quarters back and said she would be back with the $10 dollar bill in a moment. After time went by, we asked her again and she said "oh your bill was actually $38 plus dollars and she walked away. Keep in mind we are from California. We started to walk away, but I had seen the total and what we ordered made no sense. Somehow, the invoice she gave us disappeared. They were trying to say we ordered something different. They were quick to remake a receipt for that and come to find out it belong to another table. After about 7 minutes, they handed us a $10 dollar bill back, with jo receipt at all. They did not find our order receipt and send us on our way. Read between the lines and come to your own conclusion. Here is mine: How many times does it happen per shift and per day? How many people do not look? And what does that do for the inventory and balance sheets. read more

I thought that 7:20 on a Friday morning would be a good time and it was but they quickly filled up. The menu has a lot breakfast items but I was going to keep it simple with sausage and eggs with toast and hash browns. The sausage patties ended up being one big patty which was good, not bland but not a zesty one and moist. The hash browns were way too much cooked golden with some soft a center. My partner and I had breakfast with his brother and sister-in-law at Lumber Inn today. Despite it being very busy, we were seated quickly. Our waitress was efficient and pleasant. I was heartened to see so many young Latinos working at Lumber Inn. The food was good. I was happy to see some healthier options, including buckwheat pancakes and chicken sausage. I also appreciated that they offered real maple syrup for an additional fee. The Lumber Inn deserves five stars, but I knocked off a star for the unexpected surcharge fee for using a credit card. We actually reduced the tip by the amount of the surcharge fee. I am inclined to believe that any business who largely accepts cash is likely cheating on their taxes. read more

Had the opportunity to enjoy breakfast with my family. We sat outside so our dog could be with us. The food was very good and really enjoyed their American fries. They were essentially fried potato's but had a good flavor. Service was great. They had different people running coffee refills and never had to wait for a refill. Lumber Inn is the GO TO place if you are ever in Delafield. It's a quaint little restaurant with guaranteed absolutely amazing food every time. My personal favorite is the salsa verde potatoes. I like them extra crispy but that's just my taste. And they have really healthy portions. The people working there couldn't be nicer. And you can sit outside in the warmer weather. And secret tip, they sell their t-shirts. Not always heavily stocked, but grab one of you can. Too cute. So give this hidden gem a try. As we continue to dip our toe into some semblance of "normal" in these strange times, Lumber Inn was a draw as a stop on our road trip as they featured ample outdoor seating. In addition to the al fresco dining, LI features solid breakfast items including good, bottomless coffee, and excellent chocolate chip pancakes. Staff is friendly (and features the cutest wait staff I've seen in months--and I'm not just saying that because of the Roro virus) and efficient.
