Luna Grill is still pretty solid as far as a healthy-ish option for lunch or dinner, but the prices recently went up. This time last year, a chicken kabob plate was $10.50, but now it'll cost you $11.25, and the flat-cut chicken has gone up to $12.25. While it may only be a $1.25 increase on most plates, once tax gets added you're spending around $15 for a single meal. I am by no means stingy when it comes to spending my money on good food, but if prices will continue to increase there are a couple of good business issues that should first be addressed: - There needs to be a separate pickup line for online or phone-in orders! When I place a large order online for myself and coworkers, arriving 20-30 minutes later for pickup (as suggested in the order confirmation email I receive), it's incredibly frustrating to have to wait in line for another 10+ minutes behind several people who are ordering to dine in. There needs to be a speedy priority line for those of us who planned ahead and need to get in and out promptly. - The online ordering system was also recently updated, and it sucks. We used to log in with a username and password, ordering on average $80 worth of food, and never saw a single "membership" benefit. Now, they require an email to login, so it seems we've lost all of our past order history. Bottom line: there don't seem to be any perks for creating an account. Food quality is still mostly consistent, but with prices continuing to rise, there needs to be a better streamlined process for to-go orders. read more

I am picky picky picky about food and I almost never eat from a franchise or "fast" food. i have not eaten at a Luna Grill in years. I happened to be meting a friend for lunch and the place we chose was too busy. There was a Luna Grill a couple doors down. Big poster with new shrimp in the window made me give it a try. It was fabulous. Crazy good. Big shrimp and plenty of sides (I got the bowl). The couscous was really goo, olives and kale (as good as kale can be). Service was good and price was reasonable for all I got. It is going to be a regular stop for me. Very friendly service. Looking forward to trying other menu items. read more

Came in, for some reason a cook gave me the stink eye. Shrug. Ordered the veggie kabob. The skewer was good. The rice was awful, old and dry. The sumac was clumpy. It was served in a nasty plastic container. What happened to the nice ceramic plates? The only thing good about the experience was that the staff who took my order were nice. This Luna Grill location is one of my takeout go-to's when I can't scrounge up the energy to cook, but I want something moderately nutritious. I've always gobbled it up too quickly to take a picture, but I usually opt for some sort of plate with salad or hummus as my side. I love that you can add skewers a la carte -- I always do that for a little extra protein! And their hummus is amazing -- sometimes I get a separate side of it to eat with vegetables the next day, but the portion that comes with a plate meal is pretty generous too! I also appreciate that their meat isn't too greasy -- I usually get the chicken or the ground beef kabob, and they've both been tender and delicious. I will say the food can be kind of salty, but I think that's a given with a lot of takeout. The one time I had a bad experience (missing items, inattentive service, etc.), Luna Grill promptly send me a gift card for future free entrees, so it's nice to know they take quality assurance seriously! read more

I have been Coming to this place for a few months now and have no complaints. I have not once been to a place like this that wasn't mom and pop owned. But I am please to say they are great. To start, No order is compete without the loaded fries. The other menu items are to try. I enjoy the open space and friendly service. The price is middle but the value of the food is matched. It can get pretty crowded on weekends - but, is always a cheap option for dinner. Also, this location serves alcohol! Perfect for a quick dinner and drinks before a movie. Tons of parking, and the inside of the place is pretty for a "fast food" joint. By no means is this place a sit down restaurant, it's a go up to the counter and order. I had the lamb and it was cooked to perfection. The flavor is delicious. For my side, I got the hummus and I did not regret that choice. The hummus was fresh and it was oh so good with the pita bread. There was a lot of hummus so I would order extra pita bread. The sauce I chose was the garlic sauce. It had the right amount of bite and it complemented the lamb really well. I highly recommend this place and will be back. Also, my kids had the chicken plate and they loved it as well. I have to say, this place is surprisingly tasty. In all honesty, I've never thought of Mediterranean food as being all that fantastic. But, with my main dishes being from Greek Corner and the occasional Gyro over at Angelo's, I may not have been choosing the best examples. And after seeing this place so many times while going to the theater next door, I vowed to eventually come here for dinner. We started with the Spanakopita, or the Spinach Pie on some menus. The crust was flakey, lightly buttery, and broke up easily with each chew. The spinach mix was creamy, not overly salted, and tasted pretty good considering many would scoff at the thought of eating creamed spinach. It was a good, though not brilliant, start to the meal. I had the Gyro Signature Plate; a safe choice, I know, but I had to try it. It was surprisingly moist, where most times you would find the meat a little dry and coarse from over roasting, and not too salty (a common theme throughout dinner). Also on the plate were Grilled Tomatoes (sweet with a good char), Pita Bread (which there is never enough of), House Salad, and Basmati Rice (soft and delicious, plenty leftover from everyone for multiple servings of leftovers). My girlfriend sampled the Bistro Filet Beef Kabob. This was amazing, a delicious marinade, that made the beef exceedingly juicy, and a perfect char that gave her dish a great contrast in texture and bit of smokey sweetness to the edges. I could not believe how tasty her dish was. Add in some Onions and Bell Pepper that absorbed any drippings from the steak, and her plate was easily the best of the night. My son had the Cheese Quesadilla, which he ate about half of, and enjoyed a taste or two from other stuff on the table. He left his own salad and cucumbers on the side; I'm not entirely sure he was all that fond of their dressing. We finished up with a Red Velvet Cupcake which I didn't have any of, but I was told wasn't too bad. Looking at it, it seemed moist enough, though I also don't think it was made on site. If it was made by some master kitchen and sent out to Luna Grill as part of their franchise, I'm not sure, though I hope it was puchased through a local vendor. So, all in all, a very good dinner. I'd be happy to swing by here again on a date night out to see a movie or just a quick lunch after a trip to the mall. It may not be an amazing experience all around, but it certainly impressed the fact that there is more to Greek food than Daphne's and Angelo's. read more

This was a promising first time dining experience. I have passed by Luna Grill many times off of Friar's Road in Mission Valley. My husband and I stopped by the Carlsbad Westfield's Mall today to check on the progress from an indoor to outdoor mall. We decided to give Luna Grill and try and I am glad we did. We ordered the chipollte hummus plate, feta fries, lemon chicken soup and a falafel. All of the dishes were well prepared and better than it's un-named competitors! I personally think one of the tricks to cooking mediterranean food well is not to "over-cook" it and they did not overcook it - everything was tender and seasoned with balance. The restaurant design is super cute with the utensil chandeliers and lovely chair designs. The patio is large and comfortable. We sat on the patio as it was sunny during the visit. They have a nice sound system playing music on the patio and you can enjoy a glass of beer and wine. There are a few changes I would make: 1) Menu - offer a spicy feta fries selection, 2) Play a more relaxing type of music for guests, 3) Determine where the line should form in the restaurant, the layout makes this part a bit confusing to what seemed to be new and regular customers. read more

I hadn't been to the Westfield Carlsbad mall in over a couple years. I was in town visiting my parents and I decided to take them to Luna Grill for dinner on a Sat night. LG is located right next to the Regal Theaters on the South side of the mall. Go thru Marron Road to get to the mall so you don't get stuck in the cluster-f traffic in the main entrance. Sat night was super busy given the theaters are right next door. It was 630pm and the place was packed. Lucky we found a table since the line was long to just place an order. I gave 1 star less as the orders took forever to come out and there was only 1 register open for a line almost out the door. I ordered the gyro dinner plate with an extra side of pita. My mom ordered a chicken kabob and my dad ordered the gyro wrap. Everything was delicious. Basically you're eating a more expensive version of Daphne's. We enjoyed our dinner and the ambiance was really nice. It was kind of loud for conversations so don't come here on a date. There are 2 TVs on each side of the restaurant for sporting events. Plenty of seating. I really like the layout of the place. It is a place where you line up and place your food order. You are given a number to place at your table and your food will be brought to you. Our food order was filled with plenty of flavors. Your salads are fancier than your side salads. You will be pleasantly surprised if you are looking for some flavor and if you are into mediterranean food. The ingredients are fresh and the food is served to you hot, or cold depending what you ordered. The desserts are good. Plan to spend a little more if you plan to dine here. read more

I'm giving Luna Grill 5 stars for today's experience. The cashier who she is so so nice and smiley. We ordered the harissa chicken plate and it tastes AMAZING!! Chicken is moist and perfectly cooked. Good thing about this plate is they give you tzatziki sauce and extra harissa on the side so you can mix it with your rice and use it for your pita bread as well. We had only waited for less than 15 minutes to get our food. (I remember last time I went was 2 years ago and we waited for 30 minutes and it turned out that they missed our order) This time is a good experience. And tables are clean and spacious. Pretty decent Greek food, but kind of expensive for what you're getting. I tried the gyros plate ($11.25), the lamb kebab plate ($15), and the fish of the day plate ($14), which turned out to be mahi mahi. They all came with a salad, rice, pita bread, tzatziki sauce, and a choice of a grilled tomato or carrots. I opted for the tomato, which was probably the wrong choice because there was just very minimal grilled flavor to it, so it was just a mushy mess. The lamb kebab was probably my favorite - it was really flavorful and super tender, but there just wasn't that much of it. The mahi mahi was pretty standard, and a fairly small portion as well. The gyros were pretty standard too, but at least they gave me a lot of it. The rice was pretty flavorful, but the salad and pita bread were just okay. Overall the food is not too bad. But for the price, they give you a pretty small portion of the meat or fish (unless you order the gyros plate). I probably wouldn't go out of my way to try again, but it's an okay option if you're already out shopping. read more

Been to this location many times as I live in the area. The last few times I've gone what I order has been terrible. The chicken smells off and tastes sour. Both times this has happened the minute it was brought to the table I could tell it had a terrible smell. First time this happened I said something at the restaurant and showed her the food, and was given new chicken which wasn't smelly or sour. How does that even happen? You can 100% smell this type of weird smell compared to fresh chicken, especially if you eat at Luna often and know what the chicken should smell like. Seems like staff knows and passes it on anyway. How could staff not smell that on the way to the table, it's pungent and sour and just funky. The second time it happened i didn't even bother to ask for new food. Trash. I feel like they try to pass of almost old chicken and *hope* that the customer doesn't notice. It's irritating especially since Luna is pretty pricey. Not going to this location anymore. The one at Carlsbad Mall. Gross. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I'll eat elsewhere. read more
