I'm sorry, but this is beyond ridiculous. I feel bad because the service is all decent but like other reviews I've noticed they care nothing for sanitation. I was disgusted today. I was waiting for them to open before 11:00 and noticed a cook smoking outside. Now I know people are allowed to smoke, however you would think management would have a spot out by the garbage designated for smoking not right outside the restaurant in the parking lot! He had the same work shirt he was smoking in and right after his smoke went in to work back to the cook line. I'm sure he washed his hands but holy "smokes" same shirt and clothes! He is cooking food for crying out loud! I immediately left to look somewhere else. It was my second time there and I will not be returning until they improve on their health regulations. Mid afternoon: kind of a ghost town. More employees than customers. Not surprised as its new and completely between lunch and dinner. I knew what I was here for: a falafel wrap in a pita. I had been waiting for construction to complete, and had already checked out their website. I was surprised when the woman at the counter said ten to fifteen minutes, as there was only my order and one or two others. As it turns out I got mine in nine minutes. Question: why are the employees ordering pizzas to be delivered? It seems like it's too early for them to be sick of the food. And just really not the greatest image for corporate. Okay so the food! A big ceramic plate with a huge falafel pita wrap, and a giant side salad. Real silverware too! Actually a lot of food for my ten bucks. At first I thought the falafel was burned, but they were just very dark. I really enjoyed the pita too, and the entire wrap. Seems like the Ventura location is a little sleepier than Oxnard, I hope it picks up. Yes, I will be back. I want to try some of their salads and other wraps. I'm a sucker for pita bread! read more

Clean restaurant where "Free bird" used to be. While the service was less than great, the food was actually delicious. The service i would describe as disorganized rather than rude or unfriendly. It took a while, over 20 minutes to get our food, but it was Saturday. The "falafel wrap" was awesome, perfectly crisped falafel with the aromatic taste you hope for in a good falafel. The tahini sauce is great too, light yet flavorful. It came with a small cup of hummus too which wasn't bad at all, a little bonus. The house salad was spring mix which i didn't try but was told it was just okay. A piece of the lettuce was a little "old". My "gyro wrap" was beautiful and delicious. I loved everything about it. The pita wrap (same as falafel) was thick and strong to support the fillings yet soft to bite . The gyro meat was thinly sliced and delicious with a fairly genorous amount. Along with lettuce tomato and onion, it had a ton of flavor and was incredibly satisfying for an empty stomach. The fries that came with it (choice of salad or fries) were skinny and tasty but cold. I was alternating tahini sauce and the hummus from bite to bite. Glad i did because i just wanted more. 20 bucks for both plates, no drinks, pretty reasonable value considering the high quality of the food. Delish food, they don't skimp on the pita bread they give you with the hummus starter. Platters are a large portion, I had the gyro meat, and it was well seasoned and tender, comes with rice, a salad, cucumber yogurt dip, and your choice of roasted carrots (which I had, yum!) or tomato. I'm a happy hummus eater! Just thought I'd start off with that. This place just opened a few weeks ago as I was told by the cashier during our lengthy conversation. Scoping out the menu, there were so many plates I'd like to try and went with the veggie kabob and added chicken for my 1st visit. As a side with the dish is hummus and you get to choose which you'd like (traditional or spicy). I had asked what the spicy hummus had tasted like and I was offered a sample so I was certain as to which I would order. As I do like trying new things, I went with the spicy hummus. What also comes with the kabob is basmati rice and a side salad including a vinaigrette dressing. You definitely get enough food for what you pay for. (1 meal you could share and it would be enough for both.) As being a yelper, you best believe I checked in! In return I received a free sharable!!! The chicken kabobs are the bomb-diggity. They are extremely tasty with a light lemony sauce. I usually order a' la carte when I dine there because I don't eat the rice and salad. Not sure if a la carte options are on the menu so just ask for stuff as sides if you don't care to eat the pre-fab meal. The chicken lemon soup is not homemade, but it is tasty. It looks like Campbell's Chicken Soup with some lemon juice in it. I'm pretty sure that's what it is, but whenever I go there - I NEED TO EAT IT! With some fresh pita. Ordered a gyro from Luna Grill and for the third time it was missing a crucial ingredient for the meal. They specialize in Mediterranean food, so it's expected to receive the sauces that make the entree. In addition, this particular time, not only did I not receive all the items orders, the meal was cold. I contacted the manager directly to let her know that this has happened many times, explained the meal was terrible and I would like a refund. She wasn't interested in hearing any of the chronic issues her restaurant was having, made excuses, and told me I needed to order extra sauce to insure I would get them and said she doesn't know who package the meal in the bag. No apology, no solution, zero customer service skills. I won't be ordering or going back ever again. read more

I love falafel. I wanted to like theirs. My first order the falafel balls looked like charcoal briquettes. Over cooked, burnt and dry inside. I tried again another time and asked the cashier to ask the cooks not to burn it. He didn't say anything to the cooks. Maybe he wrote it down. When I got my order it too was black, burnt and dry. So, I asked if this is how they are always prepared and the guy said "we have to cook them with a timer. I'm sorry." He didn't care they were burnt. Basically Oh Well. Very nice clean and comfortable decor, but quite frankly I thought the food was mediocre. I ordered a lamb kebob which was dried out and not very tasty. There are probably other items on the menu that might be a better choice. The food here seemed to be Persian, although they don't seem to want to call it that, preferring to call it "Mediterranean" instead, so as to appeal to the American palate. I am quite fond of Persian food, and have been to many many other Persian places that have far better food. However, if the clean and modern decor appeals to you, this is not a bad place. I've been to Luna Grill in Ventura four times now, twice to pick up catering - once for the Thousand Oaks high school orchestra banquet and once for my daughter's birthday. Many people asked me where the catering came from - business cards should be included with each catering order. The catering received rave reviews both times it was served. I had the chicken kabob (moist and incredibly flavorful with a lemon tang), the beef filet kabob (moist and delicious, flavored with the onions and green peppers with which it was grilled) and served with basmati rice and their house salad. All outstanding. Once I ordered the spinach/feta/phyllo dough appetizers. Those were outstanding and reheated nicely since they were too large to eat as appetizers - I had two additional meals made from them. Everything I've had from Luna Grill has been delicious. For the catering, I like that they include not just plates, napkins, and silverware, but substantial plastic catering tongs and spoons. The to-go containers and the catering tools are heavy duty enough to wash and reuse at home if you so desire. My only negative, and I hate to even bring this up, the first time I had catering, there was a hair in the basmati rice - normally that would gross me out to the point I would dump everything and not be able to eat. However, we were all so starving we picked it out and ate the rice anyway. Also, once the cuts of beef in the filet beef kabobs were not as high quality as at other times. The chicken, on the other hand, is always moist and flavorful. The food is so good that I can overlook these very few (and one-time only) negatives and heartily recommend Luna Grill for catering a special event or a casual meal. read more

It pains me to write a review such as this for an establishment we otherwise enjoy, but sometimes you need to be heard. Luna Grill is the closest alternative to Persian food around here, otherwise you drive to Thousand Oaks. For it's proximity and general quality, it quickly became a go-to place for our household. Tonight, however, they blew it on more than one front. If you're out of a particular menu item, call your customer and tell them. Don't rely on the third-party delivery service to break the news when they're on the doorstep. In this instance, we would've simply canceled the order and ordered from somewhere else; yes, that one item was THAT important to us. If that was the only issue, we would've certainly let it go, but they delivered incorrect items, as well. We called the restaurant to speak with the manager, and were handed off to someone who will remain unnamed. Frankly, if she is a manager, Luna Grill should consider choosing their managers who represent them more carefully. She was argumentative when we called, stating that she personally packaged our order, so she KNEW it was right. They had already refunded the amount of the one item not delivered, but now we just wanted to make everything else right, too. The manager immediately became snarky, asking us, "Well, what do you want me to do?" She asked for our name, then cut us off as we gave that information, saying "Yeah, I got it." So, here's your tip, Luna Grill: Step up and call your customers if you can't fulfill an order; don't leave it up to a third party bearing no responsibility. And FFS, check your attitude. We know people make mistakes, but if you can't own those mistakes, we'll not hesitate to call you out. read more

This was our first time here at Luna Grill. The food was great and the service was awesome. You first have to order at the register and then your food will be delivered to you at your table. We had a salad that was very fresh and the sampler plate that was a little taste of everything it was wonderful. We will be returning to Luna Grill again. read more

Really tasty! Got a vegetable kabob and it was hot and well grilled. The plate was pretty big, full of good rice and salad, and came with a roasted tomato, pita, tzatziki and hummus. Only four stars because the boyfriend's gyros weren't very hot or crispy. But he thought they were tasty. Tried luna grill for the first time tonight and was pleasantly surprised. Though a bit expensive, I wanted veggies and chicken as I wanted to avoid carbs, so I ordered the chicken kabob and vegetable kabob. I had it without rice and it all came on the same plate. The chicken was tender and juicy, not over cooked as is often the case and the vegetables also were perfectly cooked and a good variety. It was a delicious combination along with the side salad that came with the chicken. My hubby had the mahi and thought it was well cooked and flavorful. We also liked the yogurt sauce they served with it all. We ordered the half bottle of Sauvignon blanc and it really made a perfect meal. I will Definitely go back for more. read more

My expectations are high because it's a new location. Thumping music but not too loud. You can speak over it. When you are hungry, does time slow down? My Gyros was a little late waiting for fries. Such an amazing place! Ive officially had falafel for the first time. Luna grill has won me over with it. It was absolutely amazing, a little dry but so good. Just needed some sauce to level out the dryness. The employees here were also very nice. We ordered take out and unfortunately they did forget some of our order. This place is amazing I have no idea why it wouldn't get 5 stars. My ONLY gripe with their otherwise amazing food is that the Beyond Burger isn't vegan. You have to take off the feta. And then there's no other like flavoring or sauce option? They can easily throw a vegan sauce on there. Just because vegans don't eat cheese doesn't mean a burger has to be flavorless. If you're gonna go plant based then make it yummy. Burger is still bomb though. Especially compared to the other options out there. read more
