This is our third time to try Lupe Tortilla. Originally we went to the location in the arbor walk and we really were not impressed at all. However, the new location opened in cedar park and we decided to give it a shot last week. We loved it! So we came back again today and had the same experience. Our server last time had a difficult name to remember, but she was fantastic and very attentive! This time we had Romo taking care of us and he was equally as impressive. Very friendly and attentive, and even joked with my kids. He went out of his way to ensure that the hot plates were nowhere near my two year old, which to me is very important. I had fish tacos, which were awesome! My wife had crab and avocado enchiladas, which she swears are the best enchiladas she has ever had! The best part is the Romo kept my tea filled up, but made sure to ask me every time so that my mixture of sweet-n-low didn't get messed up. Tried the new Cedar Park location. We ordered a 1/2 lb of beef fajitas. We got a mix of flour and corn tortillas. Both tortillas are home made and the highlight of the restaurant by far. Not a lot of places have good home made corn tortillas. Reminded me of getting then in Old Town San Diego back in the day. The fajita meat was very tender although doused in lime juice. I thought it was fine, but if you aren't a lime fan, you may not care for the flavor. The salsa was average, chips were also surprisingly poor to average. For a place with such good tortillas, you would think they would have better home made chips. I would say the big issue here is the food is over priced. Well all good things come to an end!!! I ordered a beef enchilada and taco plate. The enchilada and rice was so dry that I had to ask for extra sauce. It left much to be desired. I have children who love tacos and the fancy taco shell in it's weird shape makes it almost impossible for kids to eat, I don't like it myself. The staff has turned over quite a bit. Came in at 5:30pm to an almost empty bar compared to opening months you couldn't even walk in the bar. I ordered a happy hour rocks house margarita that I had to send back. They have it pre-made in a juice container and it was terrible. So I settled for the house frozen and that was tasty . I don't know... I miss the hip, fun, and knowledgeable bartenders that used to be there. I will have to re-try some more plates before I decide about the food. read more

We planned to try brunch at Lupe Tortilla (Cedar Park) on New Years Day. I called the day before (NYE) to ensure they would be open at 9am as usual and was told they would be by the receptionist. We got our 16 month old ready and made the 30 min drive the morning of only to be met with an employee taping a sign to the door that stated they would now not be open until 11am due to being short staffed (we arrived at 9:15am). Very frustrating and inconvenient. We were excited to try the brunch and got our little one excited for pancakes... ended up going to ihop. We usually enjoy eating at this restaurant, but last Thursday night sucked. After being seated, we sat like idiots for at least ten minutes without a waitress appearing. Another waiter asked if we had been helped, but I replied, not yet. Our waitress finally appeared and told us that no chips were available. Yet other tables had theirs. We decided to stay, and placed drink and dinner orders. After another ten minutes, we had received no drinks. Not even a glass of water. After feeling like jackasses for staying, we got up and left. We used to love Lupe, but every time we return the service and food seem to get worse. We were greeted by a large unfriendly woman wiping down menus, she said it'd be 15-20 minutes for a table. We were texted that our table was ready about 2 minutes later. Our waiter was not super friendly either. I'm not sure if he was super busy or if he was just having a bad day, but he took forever to come take our drink order and he was just not very friendly. I ordered Carne asada with eggs from the brunch menu and everyone else ordered from the lunch menu. Mine was AWFUL. The eggs were old and chewy and cold. The steak was over cooked and the beans were cold. I only ate a couple bites but the waiter didn't seem to notice. As a small business owner, I never write bad reviews but instead give the company the benefit of the doubt and bring any concerns straight to the manager. But after today's experience, I'm not only writing a bad review but will no longer be returning to Lupe Tortilla. For the past two years, they have never once gotten my order correct. But today it was so wrong, we felt we needed to speak with a manager about it. My vegetarian fajita had no mushrooms or poblano peppers, just a couple bell peppers and onions... it looked like they took the veggies from the meat fajitas and called it vegetarian. It was pathetic. I've had their vegetarian fajitas before, this was not it. Not only that but they forgot the tortillas, the beans and the sour cream... seriously what was I paying $21 for? That was just my order. They literally forgot half my husbands order. But our biggest problem was when we called to speak with a manager, HE HUNG UP ON MY HUSBAND without hearing him say anything but you got my order wrong!! saying "I already spoke with you sir." Click. But he hadn't spoken to us, that must have been another unsatisfied customer whose order they got wrong. My husband, calmly, called back and asked to speak with the manager again. But the manager was too "busy." My husband then asked for the managers name, for which the man on the phone gave him the runaround saying "I dont know, we have alot of managers." He then continued to give my husband the round around saying he didn't know which managers were on duty right now and they were all too busy to speak with us anyways. All this after waiting 25 minutes for my curbside food in the first place, which I only got after calling in to see if they got my text and asking how long the wait was going to be. I can handle them getting orders wrong and slow service, it happens, but after the experience with this manager, were done. I really hope the owner reads this and finds out who that manager was because he really shouldn't be in the position he is in. Worst customer service ever. read more

Overall: Best fajitas I have ever had. The place: very cool looking Place won't you get inside although it isn't as big as it looks from the outside. The dining area is a little small however the bar area is pretty big. Food: I heard great things about their fajita so I thought I would come here and give it a try. The menu is pretty big and has a lot of choices however they don't have the chimichanga which is my wife's favorite. Pretty good selection for kids menus and a big selection for different kinds of fajitas. Food came out pretty fast everything was good and I must say the fajitas were by far the best. Something about the way they seared the shrimp, steak, and chicken made it very good and I especially like how big the tortillas were. I always complain about the tortillas you get when you order a fajita, that they're not big enough to fit all the food that give you, but not here. I can make a burrito with those tortillas. Only bad thing I would say is that they could do a whole lot better with making margaritas. Probably would not order the house Margarita again. read more

They really do a good job of bringing out your food warm and fresh, and it comes with a lots of chips and salsa. I had the Cilantro Jalapeño Chicken, and the issue is in order to keep the chicken breasts nice and juicy they do something (like use a tenderizer or some soft of sodium based preservative or over salt - I don't know which). The chicken tasted decent but salty, and not like if you cooked at home. I'm pretty sure it's not great for you health wise. Secondly the portions are too big but consistent with the pricing. Enough to easily feed you for 2 meals, they all come with quadruple carb: rice and tortilla, beans, and free chips. Went for dinner with my wife since we haven't been to Lupe in awhile. Place was fairly busy and the environment is comfortable for sitting outside and relaxing. Waiter was nice but service was ridiculously slow. I'm a street taco guy and usually ask what the closest thing a mexican restaurant has to that. Was surprised they had nothing. First time that has happened. Decided on green enchiladas and wife ordered fajitas. Took us about 40 minutes to get food from the time we sat down and ran out of drinks numerous times. They sent my meal to the wrong table and had to remake it. Waiter only stopped by three times and when it came time to pay he forgot he had my card and took awhile to remember to bring it to me. Overview: if you like to have a drink while waiting for your table, might be a good place for you because the outside area is comfortable. For me, since I don't drink alcohol, this wasn't enough to overcome the poor experience and overpriced food. We were such huge Lupe fans, this is three times in a row we've gone in and picked up a pound and a half of fajita meat asked for it well done it's been medium or worse each time but what's even worse all of the amazing flavor that it used to have that marinated lime forever it's just gone it's just plain plain meat! So tired of the precautions having to be taken because I'm having trouble understanding waitstaff with these masks on. Ordered a small queso which tasted fine but very runny, since we had no plates or bowls to use, dripped all over table. There was a huge pile of jalapeños, which were tasty. As for our drinks, my tea was fine, grandsons coke was kept filled and daughters peach tea was spiced. Huge plates came out, my soup and salad tasted good but soup was merely room temperature. Will heat it here at home. Daughter ordered nachos with roasted polano pepper strips and she thought chicken fajita but got beef, which tasted delish but really..$20 for a plate of beef fajita nachos? I read the other reviews after I ate here. Based on them I'd of passed this place up so I'm glad I didn't read them before. I was here for an early lunch. There was no wait and my server was just right, attentive without hovering. The salsa and chips came quickly. The salsa is chunky - not my fave, but still good. I ordered the flat enchiladas...muy delicioso! Seriously, so good. But a caution, they are very filling. The dish reminded me a bit of football game Frito pie (which I love) because it had a kind of chili gravy, shredded cheese, and was topped with minced onions. The flat corn tortillas were thick. Ambience - from the exterior to the interior this shop has a great Hispanic vibe. The building looks like an old Spanish mission and the interior is brightly colored with lots of eccentric wall decor. They have a pretty decent patio and a very large dining room with thr bar in the middle. The overall atmosphere is very vibrant, welcoming and really nice Menu - so first things first. This is a higher end Mexican food joint, so expect to pay a pretty penny for your meal. Most of the focus of the menu revolves around their fajitas, carne asada and seafood dishes. They do have other items like enchiladas and burrito but they are very limited on selection and variety. The main focus is the front of the menu that boasts a very nice variety of fajitas, seafood and so on. The selection of the each of those categories is pretty varied with lots of options. Like the fajitas for example you can add different items like sausage, bacon wrapped shrimp, lobster tail and so on. Their claim to fame is their fajitas and handmade tortillas. With options like filet migon fajita with lobster tail, then that's a pretty bold claim. Gotta say thou, they have a lot of variety and selection when it comes to fajitas. But it is going to cost you alot of skrilla. Anyways, the menu in my opinion is more focused of the specialty plates like chicken, seafood and so on. There isn't a big push for items like burritos, enchiladas and tacos. Service - service here was pretty decent, nothing spectacular but it was pretty good. The host lady, who also looked like a manager, sat me at my table but looked kinda nervous or anxious. After being there for a while I think the reason for that was the place was really busy on a Monday at 3:00. So I think she was stressed since there was only 2 servers and people pouring in. My server was a pretty cool and calmed headed guy. He was super prompt and was pretty friendly. He was on point up until the very end. As soon as I had my food ge basically disappeared. Took me almost 10 - 15 minutes to get my check. There was even a point where some manager or kitchen manager was making rounds in the dining room. He stopped and asked how it was and as I was saying "yeah it was really good, can i get my check please?" He turned around and just left saying "awesome glad to hear." Do obviously he wasnt really listening because as soon as I got halfway thru my sentence he had already turned and walked away. Well that was annoying. Anyways overall the service was good but I know they were short staffed so I was trying to be understanding. Food - well if you claim to have world class fajitas then I gotta put that claim to fame to the test. So I ordered the half pound beef fajitas (that cost $24! :( ouch ) The food came out like most places with all the fixins on the side and the meat on a hotter than hell iron plate. Presentation looked good and even the beef just looked amazing. As I bust out the tortilla I am shocked to see that this thing is freaking huge. It's a big tortilla. Alrighty then. I take a bite of meat first to see how good this beef really is. And I gotta say I was not disappointed. This beef was tender, moist and packed alot of spices and natural flavor. It was an explosion of spices and awesome dead cow goodness. I will admit that was some of the best beef fajita meat I have ever had. So I fix me up a fajita with all the guacamole, pick, rice, cheese and so on. The guacamole is pretty simple and the rice was pretty bland. But when they were all wrapped up together they made for a damn good fajita. Gotta say that their claim to fame ain't just some claim. That beef was packed with flavor and spices. At some points there was almost too much spice or seasoning and almost puckered my mouth and butthole. The only thing that kind of threw me off was how fast the food came out. I mean like, freaky unnaturally fast. I'm talking less than 5 minutes. So it makes me wonder if the reason it came out so fast, moist and tender is if maybe it is actually being stored in a broth in the steamtable. Very suspicious and intriguing....I'm on to you guys, l will be watching. Lol. This could also explain an almost overwhelming amount of "flavor". Marinating in a broth for hours then it is going to absorb alot. But anyways, my fajitas were pretty damn good Overall - gotta say I really enjoyed my meal and their fajitas are a thing to be reckoned with. Menu is pretty solid and I liked what they had to offer. Only downside to my trip was the fact that near the end I was completely forgotten about, I literally had a guy look me in the face and then walk away from me while I was in mid sentence. It took forever for me to get my check. To have someone check on me and then halfway thru my sentence just tune me out and not listen to the last half of my sentence was upsetting. We waited for over 2 hours, and when it was finally delivered, not only were we missing a queso order, but the portions were NOT for 4-6 people. Our favorite new place to take company from out of town who always want to try tex mex. Lupe does it consistently and does it well. Their fajitas (chicken and beef combo) are our go-to and the house speciality. The corn tortillas are to-die-for tender, and the flour are good too although thin. Most importantly, there are free refills on the tortillas, fajita sides, guacamole, cheese, sour cream, pico, refried beans and bean salsa- everything except the meat itself. Everything is super fresh and even the 1/2 pound fajita order goes a LONG way- the menu recommends 1-2 but I've seen it feed three people easily.
