Picked up lunch there for the first time today 6/3/2020, I had the Chili Relleno burrito and it was fabulous. The flavors were perfect and the cheeses used added to the right amount of sharpness to the sweet & spiciness OC the chili. I have to say it's the very best Chili Relleno burrito I have had in a very long time. My wife had the taquito's and was pleasantly surprised that they used fresh avocado for their guacamole... The portions are smaller than expected. I was pretty disappointed with the size of the chili cheese fries. The chicharron burrito was underwhelming when compared to other other options in the area. I wish they had rice, this location only uses beans. Likely won't be returning. read more

Been coming here since I was a baby! Love this place. My favorite is beef and beans and cheese with green chili. My family calls them "Blow outs" because they are so stuffed with deliciousness they tend to fall apart! Parking is on the corner of Beverly and Paramount and is hard to get to and is cramped. The inside only seats about 20 people and they are a cash only store. If you can deal with all that you are in for one of the best burritos of your life! Again, CASH ONLY!!! read more

I refuse to try anything else on the menu besides the #17 bean, cheese and red beef burrito. So big and tasty that it requires both hands. It's either shredded beef or barbacoa I'm not exactly sure but I'm absolutely in love with it. Plus the consistency of the flavor has not let me down once. If you love spicy ask for the red sauce inside the burrito or on the side. It's not thick at all and looks harmless but it's not and after a few minutes will make you sweat like your in the gym. So I've driven by this place a few times, and decided to stop by today. The first thing I would like to mention is that this place is not a true Mexican spot and is more like Tito's tacos (which is better than this place). I ordered a hard shell taco and a #17 (Beef,beans,cheese, and red chili burrito) and a small drink. All for about 8 bucks. The hard shell taco was pretty good, but too salty for my liking. The burrito was pretty big and came with a lot of meat! BUT it was also salty!! And not spicy. Their hot sauce is pretty bland and not spicy either. What I did like was that this place had parking and a small dining area with a fireplace. The service was great and speedy! Would I come back? Maybe, if I'm craving super salty food. read more

The Mexican American food here is good (this spot does not serve Mexican food), especially if your high or drunk. Unfortunately I think the employees are high or drunk when they take your orders or make your food. This is the third time in a row they've screwed up our order. Being that I live 15 minutes away I am certainly not gonna drive back to get the burrito they charged me for but forgot to include. In the past they used give hella bags of chips with your order. On this most recent trip they only gave one small bag of chips for three burritos and 6 tacos. At least they gave us salsa. Also it's a good thing this place closes early because if they were open late someone would definitely get shot here eventually...if it hasn't happened already. read more

Purchased 3 burritos and 1 order of taquitos. The burrito order was 1 Carne Asada- 1 Chile Verde and 1 Chile Relleno. First off Carne Asada, was extremely greasy. Grease coming out all over the burrito. Couldn't even eat half of it. Chile Relleno burrito was good, needs more salsa. Chile verde was good too but needed two things. More salsa, meat was dry and it had too many bell peppers. Taquitos were probably the best thing we had from this order. Two taquitos with plenty of shredded meat inside and guacamole. Not sure I will be returning but if I do- I'll try the Chile verde and Coke Relleno with extra sauce inside. read more

Mom an pop restaurant at it's best. Perfect little spot right on the corner of 2 main Blvd. Parking is a breeze resemblant of a retro Rolled Diners. Staff is helpful and quick. Grabbed an Azada burrito and it was definitely well proportioned. Well worth the price and then some. Had to grab a large "agua fresca" fountain juice to wash that baby down. THE BEST Bean & Cheese Burrito! My late Father for some reason always called this place Bea's. I don't know why. I don't remember going there as a kid either, but once we started going there we always go back. I like the #14, a green chile, bean & cheese burrito. It has real roasted strips of green chile. I ask for it "skinny" meaning smaller because it's a hunka hunka burrito. My brother likes the #17 burrito with red chili, this one has meat in it, mom likes the hard tacos which are deep fried and piled high with fresh lettuce and thick shredded cheddar cheese. The taquitos are good even though they have the old ball park watery guacamole. The fries are really good, i don't know how they do it, but they may blanch them first and then fry to order. We recently started ordering the tostadas too which I like without meat, mom likes with meat. Their quality is good, always, it never changes. It's not fancy, you order to go or there are a few tables to sit at outside. The one guy there always remembers me, and I don't have to ask for lemon or green sauce, he knows. Cash only. This review is solely based on there hard shell tacos. I enjoy a good hard shell taco every other day and I don't mean Jacks. Anyways back to the taco here was pretty good with a good balance of meat to lettuce ratio. The meat did lack in flavor but the lettuce and cheese complimented the meat so it wasn't that obvious. The hot sauce was okay but not much of a kick so I might have to go back to ask if they have hotter options. The taco was under $2 which isn't bad because you may only be able to eat 3 or 4 because of there size. I need to go back and try some more of the menu to have more to say. read more

Lupes has been around forever and has ok food. i have only had the hard shell tacos and the green combo burrito. the taco is good but nothing spectacular that would make it stand out against others. the burrito is decent enough but if it werent for a good amount of nice shredded beef it would be forgettable. not enough cheese and the green chilis taste out of the can. al and beas is waaay better even gardunos in montebello close by would be a better choice. TIP: If you have never been there try not to go during peak lunch hours due to the lack of parking. the lot is very small so you may be out of luck. read more

I grew up in Whittier and my dad would go pick us up dinner from Lupe's once a month or so. It always seemed like it took FOREVER for him to drive out to Pico and come back home with the big cardboard box full of burritos, taquitos, homemade chips. Mmm, and green sauce, and red sauce, and sometimes a tostada... The last time I went was summer 2010 and it hasn't changed a bit. Same gigantor burritos, same smell, same wrappers, same authentic, lardy Mexican food. Yum. It only gets 4 stars instead of 5 because the guacamole is (I'm pretty sure) made from a mix instead of from fresh avos, and is kind of slimy and flavorless, and because the taquitos are always overcooked - to the extent that when you bite into one, you risk puncturing the roof of your mouth with a rock-hard, pointy tortilla shard. read more

If you like greasy food and you're not on a diet this is the place for you. It's a small place with very little patio seating so people usually just get it to go or eat in their cars. The green chili burritos are great and they are big for a burrito compared to other places like it around. The grease will seep through everything it touches so don't go throwing it on your car seat. Will never go back in the evening. Been coming here for about 25 years. About a year ago or so they changed the evening people including the cooks. Every time I go in the evening my food is Always way sub-par. This last time I went in I ordered a Red Chile Burrito double wrapped, extra beans, cheese, red chili and requested the burrito a bit crunchy. By the time I walked back to my car the person who took my order calls me that my burrito is ready (less than 1 min). Well, first bite on the way home the burrito just explodes from the side. Come to find out the burrito was not wrapped like a burrito, the tortillas were raw and there was no cheese, or red chili. Would I go back? - sure, but in the morning or afternoon. Ps.
