I usually had a friend bring me menudo m from here, but I decided to come in myself this past Saturday, and I'm so glad I did. The experience of sitting down and eating here made it even better. Hands down, probably one of the best places for Menudo on a cold day. Meat (tripe) for the menudo was tender and didn't have that smell of organ meat (iykyk). Family owned and very friendly. Sometimes you just want cheap, good authentic Mexican food and this place did not disappoint. Everyone was chatting away in Spanish, but the waitress was easy to talk to in English. A former local introduced me to this delightful neighborhood spot. He called it "authentic Mexican breakfast." The huevos rancheros were much more full of flavor than breakfast has any right to be. The salsa was tangy and the rice and beans are something I'm going to be thinking about for a long time. I could have eaten just a bowl of them and been very happy. The beans are creamy and the rice is fluffy. Topped with a little red salsa from the personal bowl they give you - that was breakfast heaven. We also had the egg and chorizo burrito, wet, which was just as good. There are no frills here, but that actually makes the vibe better. People who know, know. My husband introduced me to this place when we started dating 10 years ago! We've been faithful customers over the years. It had been almost 2 years since we last came around. Its 12 pm and this place is pretty full. Nice place to come with your family or friends. The employees are working pretty hard and the cashiers have a great attitude. This was a quick find on my way home in East L.A. You'll have to find street parking. I'm here on a Monday at noon and parking was easy to find. & heads up, its cash-only. I ordered a steak quesadilla, carne asada burrito, and a chicken soup. And everything... was delicious. The steak was cooked fresh and you could definitely taste it. The only thing I have to criticize was the service. After I ordered the food, it started to pick up for lunchtime. I didn't catch her name but our server was nice. She just couldn't prioritize. Randomly came to this place cuz I was in the area, and I must say it was a great decision. This place has an authentic Mexican vibe going on, and the taste of the food reflects just as such. Food here is made with care. They even had a pineapple Fresca mixed with orange (I've never seen that before but it was really good). The food here is amazing but what also stands out is the price. I'd drive by this place daily on my way to work, and we finally decided to check it out this weekend. The place was packed on a Saturday morning, with bowls of menudo adorning just about every table in the joint. I resisted and went with the chilaquiles, which is ritual for me when first dining at a new Mexican spot. We also ordered the papas and chorizo breakfast. While the chilaquiles were not topped with my preferred condiments, such as queso fresco and crema, I was able to order a nice slab of carne asada on top. The red salsa had a distinct taste that complimented the seasoned half-crispy chips very nicely, with just the right amount of sauce. Combined with the tender asada with grilled onions, and beans and rice, the plate was licked clean. I would highly recommend requesting a fried egg and some asada with your chilaquiles for the perfect breakfast. As for the papas and chorizo, the combination of the two, in addition to hand-made tortillas, was also delicious. Again though, get an egg to accompany it for the full experience. I came to the area from out of town to the animal hospital down the street so my dog can have a lengthy surgery. I came across this spot when looking for a place to have lunch. The lovely woman in the front was friendly and showed me the menu. She was not bothered by the questions I had regarding the meals. Woohoo! First! Okay so thing that makes me love Lupita's is $4.95 Fajitas de Pollo! My coworkers brought me here for lunch, we can walk from our office (next to El Atacor #11) and it's a quaint little Mexican restaurant tucked into the neighborhood. The owners have the soccer team Chivas decorated all around the little place. A good number of local folks were eating when I went, and the man next to our table was having this GOOD looking dish of reddish meat. I asked what it was and he said Fajitas de pollo. I thought wow, never seen fajitas de pollo like that (red), but figured darn, they probably cost at least 9 dollars cuz fajitas usually cost more. I usually think of fajitas as more of a dinner thing. I opened the menu and couldn't believe they cost $4.95! A fajitas plate (de pollo, or de res {beef}), with very tasty rice and beans, and either corn or flour tortillas heated for you. It was a great little lunch, and a great deal.
