We were a party of 8 who went here for dinner to celebrate a birthday. Somehow the hostess let another big party go before us when we've been waiting there longer. We had to speak to the manager who rectified the situation. We were seated and had Wang as our waiter. He was fantastic! He was very efficient, friendly, and attentive. All of the food was delicious (appetizers, entrees, and dumplings). They do charge $3 for an extra bowl of rice. We also ordered the cocktail, Pandan Paradise, which was really good.They have napkins and condiments on the table (vinegar, soy sauce, chili oil, and toothpicks). Came here for Monday for lunch. My wife was eager to check this place out. Place was pretty busy with all sorts of people but thankfully the place is pretty spacious so we were able to be seated pretty quickly. I'm from Flushing Chinatown originally so to set up this restaurant and items on the menu were very reminiscent of home. We ordered, you guessed it, dumplings, dumplings and dumplings. We got the chicken and mushroom, mixed shrimp and vegetable dumplings. We ordered one set of dumplings steamed just to give it a try but definitely go with pan fried if you have the opportunity. Our waiter Alejandro did an amazing job explaining the menu going through it and letting us know about all the hot items on the menu. The food was so delicious. The string beans were definitely the top item but you can't go wrong with all the options. The restaurant is ADA accessible my electric wheelchair was able to got underneath the table and it was good to see another wheelchair user there as well. Very pleasant experience visiting LD to try out their soup dumplings - we ended up ordering a lot more than we anticipated, but it was all excellent. Parking is exceptionally easy as there's a large lot off the I-10 frontage road. I also liked the anime-style vibe - I think our waitress was meant to be an anime-style maid, which was very cool. We arrived at the opening mid-week so there was no wait but it filled up quickly! The blue crab and pork soup dumplings were divine; probably the best I've had out here in Texas. Kudos to whoever balanced out the seafood and pork flavors, it was superb. We also tried their BBQ pork buns and their exceptionally cute 'Piggy Red Bean buns', which were almost too adorable to eat. Almost! Also of note were two of the appetizers, the 'Fried Dough Stick' and the Chicken wings. The former is like a churro without the sugar, and is tasty. However the wings were superb, with a wonderfully crispy coating. Definitely returning to try more of the menu! I've stopped by Luscious Dumplings a few times now and have thoroughly enjoyed it every time. They use Yelp check in, which I highly recommend on weekday evenings after 6 and after 3 pm on weekends. Otherwise it's not a long wait. Service has been on and off each time I've gone; I was informed by management that the weekday 5-6 pm time frame is when the AM shift leaves and the PM team comes in. I totally understand this, but we were still unattended to for about 15 minutes which is a while. The food is great! So far we've had the yuzu chicken soup dumplings (my obligatory order), cabbage and chicken pan fried dumplings (really good), blue crab and pork soup dumplings (super good!), and the pork and cabbage buns (it comes in an order of 3 and they are huge!). Some of the appetizers we had were chicken skewers, also huge and delicious, and sesame broccoli. It's such a simple dish - steamed broccoli cooled in ice water and served with sesame dressing, but it was so addicting! I will say I do not recommend the pork wonton soup - it is very bland and i had to add salt to it to taste anything. The ambiance is interesting - there are several TVs all showing different TV shows and anime and a projection screen to watch sports. My friend and I wanted to try a wide variety, so we ordered the stir fried beef ho fun, blue crab and pork soup dumplings, cabbage pork and shrimp fried dumplings, and the stewed angus beef noodles. The beef ho fun was our favorite, it was perfectly seasoned and better than the other ho funs/chow funs we've tried in San Antonio. The soup dumplings were just okay. The meat to filling ratio was good, but the broth needed more flavor and lacked depth. The fried dumplings were also okay, but the meat could've been seasoned more and the dumplings were not crispy. The angus beef noodles were pretty good, but the broth also lacked some depth and felt like it was missing something. The noodles and beef in it were great though! This place is great! Very similar in dishes as Din Tai Fung but at better prices. It's one of very few soup dumpling spots in town so it has a long wait. We waited for over an hour but luckily we had a lot to catch up on. They also play music videos and tv shows around the room. I noticed an episode of Pokemon and even Sailor Moon! This place has a great menu selection! We ordered all the soup dumplings possible and a few other crowd pleasers: spicy wontons, garlic green beans and the black lava buns. Spicy wontons only came with 4 since it was on the app menu. It came out within 5 mins of ordering. It came in a deep bowl of sauce, that we could drink, it was so good! Not too spicy. We saved it to use as chili oil with our dumplings later. The garlicky green beans were so addicting! It was great to have a vegetable with all the rich flavors. Though it can be salty with all the sauces. I didn't take a picture of my Lychee green tea with crystal pearls, but it was great. Just like ordering from a boba shop! Once seated our food came out quickly. Our spicy dumpling app came out within 5 mins of ordering. Everything else came in the next 10. All the food was delicious and flavorful. The green beans are addicting. The soup dumplings are nice and plump and come with the authentic dressings like vinegar and pickled ginger. I like the crab one the least, because the crab flavor is minimal. It's basically like eating the pork one, but just slightly more expensive. (Not as much of an up-charge as DTF) The Yuzu chicken soup dumpling was our favorite because the yuzu citrus added a brightness that cut the fatty richness of the pork dumplings. All great to try though! For "dessert" we ordered the black lava buns which has a melty salted egg custard. I love the flavor of salted egg and there was some sweetness from the bun. It came out piping hot and was so satisfying! We were so full though and could only eat one each. But i'd get this over the sweet pig ones! Absolutely amazing spot! We went a little crazy but it was all worth it. It was a rainy day so their soup dumplings were perfect. The stewed pork belly was also good, and the meat was very tender. We also enjoyed their pan fried dumplings and shumai. We also did their blind box boba and our daughter loved their little capybara surprise toy. We capped our meal with the incredible Mango Bingsu. Everything we had was great and had large servings. It was also very busy when we went but all our items got served very quickly, and they were very accommodating towards our kids. Let me preface that I can't help but compare it to DTF so here is my honest feedback on the food we ordered: Soup dumplings were 10/10, pan fried pork and shrimp dumplings were 6/10, scallion pancakes were a bit too thin 6/10, but green beans were 10/10! Mango bingsu a little too much condensed milk but good 8/10....sorry, I may be a bit particular but I can confidently say I would go back. Wait was about 45 min on a Friday night but service at the bar was awesome - I think like 4 or 5 people can sit there. Food came out fairly fast and overall pretty good prices. The pork soup dumplings had good flavor, but several of them did not have soup in them, which was pretty underwhelming. These are used for the dipping sauces for pot stickers and dumplings. I am hooked on the Passion Fruit Bloom w/Lychee and Boba. My buddy likes the Panda Oreo Black Tea. For appetizers, we had the sautéed string beans which were plentiful and good. We have learned that any appetizer needs a to-go box once the entrees come out. Most flavorful goes to the Blue Crab dumplings. Great depth and balance of flavors. The dumplings and potstickers are the only dishes so far that we can finish easily. The Mongolian Beef has lots of onions, and a smattering of beef. It is a mound of onions for sure. The Spicy Boiled Beef looked intimidating with such a large bowl. First of all, Luscious Dumpling, is a California franchise that recently opened it's first San Antonio location in the DeZavala area. Their original location in California actually received the Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand award for three straight years, and now I see why. They have a huge menu with everything from dumplings, to classic Chinese dishes, noodles and much more! I highly recommend ordering a couple dishes and just share with the entire table (tapas style). Since this was my first time, I always like to ask what they recommend and follow their lead. During my visit we ordered the Spicy Wonton in Chili Oil, sauteed green beans with minced pork, pork soup dumplings and eggplant and minced pork dumplings. Everything we ordered was a 10/10. All the food was fresh to order and was brought to our table as soon as it came out. I don't think I can choose a favorite dishes, since I loved them all. The blue crab & pork soup dumplings and the chili sliced tripe were too sweet for my taste. For the blue crab dumplings, I added extra vinegar and soy sauce to balance the sweetness out. The chili sliced tripe was so overwhelmingly sweet that we had to send it back. Lastly, the pork ears & bean curd were much too salty for us. I think if we ordered white rice, it would have been better. One thing I noticed while observing other tables was that not many people seemed to have ordered what we did. There were a lot of green beans, piggly milk buns, and cheese crab puffs, which makes me wonder if we simply ordered the wrong dishes. The restaurant is very clean and is a great casual spot. Their stewed beef angus beef noodle is my FAVORITE! I get the thin hand pulled noodles and it's perfectly cooked, so savory and comforting when you just want a bowl of soup. The beef is soft and melts in your mouth! The tendon version is just as good if you like tendon. I've put multiple people on their soup and they love it just as much! The portion is big and good for sharing, especially if you're ordering other things as well. Also a fan of their sauteed string beans with minced pork and soup dumplings! The strawberry bingsu was refreshing and a good portion, but I do wish they added more strawberries/toppings in proportion with the amount of ice you get. The hostess will tell you it's an hour wait but it's really only 20 minutes. If you order takeout, it won't be ready in 25 minutes like the website says, it's more like 45 minutes. I first learned of this restaurant from a friend's post on social media. We are both from CA and now live in TX. If you know the history of this place you know they have locations in several states but originated in CA. My friend moved here from Monrovia, CA where a luscious dumplings restaurant was established in 2012. That is where and how my friend first heard of it. Once she learned they had expanded to TX, she went and shared her experience. Luscious dumplings has been operating since 2001 which is quite impressive. It's a family owned business and clearly their success and expansion is mainly due to the quality of their food! In 2021 they received a Michelin bib gourmand recognition and I now understand why! In addition to their delicious food, the service is prompt and excellent as well. They have a pretty expansive menu and one can get lost or overwhelmed trying to decide what to order, if it's your first time. That's how it felt for us, however, we were overcome by more excitement than overwhelm. My husband just started ordering what seemed like the entire menu (lol). We started with the baby bok choy, edamame, and the spicy wonton in chili oil, and stir fry beef ho fun (noodles). We then just went ahead and placed our entire order since the waitress informed us the dim-sum/dumplings take a little longer. My absolute favorite was the spicy wonton in chili oil (appetizer) and the chicken soup dumpling! Our dumpling order consisted of the blue crab pork dumplings, the shrimp dumplings, and pork and shrimp dumplings. It seemed like so much food and it was but we were also hungry and ate pretty much everything! Pricing is also very reasonable for the portions and quality you get. The restaurant itself is pretty spacious and they have tables and booths, all indoor seating and 2 picnic style benches outside. I recently moved to the area and was in the mood to try something new. I have never been to Luscious Dumplings, but trusted the reviews. I went to their website and ordered take out online, all of which consisted of a small appetizer, mapo tofu, and noodles. That's it. When I arrive, the young person at the front handed me my food which had a receipt attached to it. As I said thank you and got ready to walk away, she swiftly printed another reciept and handed me a pen with a smug look on her face, and says, "And a little tip for our host." I have NEVER tipped a host before. Especially one with whom I had seconds of communication with. I think people should be aware of this because they may also be guilted into tipping someone who hands them one bag. I was not in the mood to have a conversation with her about this, so I ended up tipping her what her attitude is worth. read more
