We just finished our bathroom remodel and honestly, it feels like we're walking into a luxury hotel every time we step inside. The marble, gold accents, and Kohler fixtures are absolutely gorgeous and give the space such an elevated, timeless feel. Eddie was our foreman and was extremely attentive and pleasant to work with. Avi of Lusso Design and Build stood out among the multiple contractors we considered for our residential electrical panel upgrade. What set him apart was his suggestion of an alternate layout for the wiring and panel placement, which would require a shorter trench and consequently less demolition and construction. Essentially, he didn't just say "yes" to our project, he proposed a better plan. Our project spanned from January to April 2024. It involved cutting into cement, trenching, installing new wiring, cutting into the side of our house exterior and garage interior wall, trench inspection, rebar and poured cement, stucco, and repainting, plus a considerable amount of waiting on SDG&E. His team worked quickly and safely, pausing for the rain and putting up caution tape and barriers as needed. His team also found a perfect exterior paint match to finish the project. I signed with Lusso for our ADU project in February 2024. We agreed that if we did the build with them, we'd get a $10k credit toward the build. Avi is knowledgeable about ADUs, but I think we were naive about the process and put our trust in him too much too soon. For the next few months, we met with him and his architect and came up with a design plan that got increasingly larger. Anyone can shoot for the moon, but shouldn't there be some sort of guidance from the only expert in the room knowledgeable about and in control of pricing? At that point it was assumed we'd have him to do the build, so we kept asking him what the cost of the build would be, but he said he couldn't give us a number, not even ballpark. It was never made clear how much we'd have to spend at any iteration of the design until AFTER the plans were submitted for permitting in September 2024. We found ourselves to be 50% over budget with Avi's after-the-fact bid. We scrambled on our own to see if we could salvage this design and get a bid that we felt comfortable with, but wasted even more time doing so. Since the holidays were fast approaching, we decided we had no choice but to ask Avi to withdraw the permit application and have it redesigned to be smaller and more affordable. Feeling stuck and at the mercy of Avi, I kept asking him to give me an idea what the redesign change would cost. He said roughly around $3000. I regret sharing with Avi the fact that the ADU consulting company that referred us to Lusso offered to pay for part of the redesign cost. I can't prove it, but I think he factored this amount into his price for the redesign as he kept mentioning the fact that we would be getting partial compensation. Instead, the cost ballooned from an estimate of $3000 to $7600. I was told the cost in a phone call, not invoiced. When I balked at the cost, it suddenly became $7200. The consultants suggested that I ask the architect and engineer directly for invoices, since Avi claimed he couldn't find it. When Avi heard that I contacted the architect directly to see the charges, he said to me, in my own home, word for word, that I "went behind his back," and that he "lost a little bit of trust" in me. He then "discounted" the cost to $4900. He then had the audacity to show me my account on his laptop to show how he had lost money on me. Well, Avi, WE are the ones losing money, and most of all, we lost TIME. We took accountability for our part in the miscommunication as did the ADU consultant. Did you? And ultimately it is MY right according to the California State Licensing Board that I see invoices. As a licensed contractor, he should know better. https://www.cslb.ca.gov/consumers/legal_issues_for_consumers/mechanics_lien/conditional_and_unconditional_waiver_release_form.aspx We are now in May 2025 and facing wildly unpredictable tariffs and permitting was delayed due to a major design correction by the city regarding incorrect setback. We had to pay yet another fee to redesign a 3rd plan. Luckily the consultant paid for it, but we should've started building 6 months ago. As we speak, the original permit application from September 2024 is still being untangled at the city. I will conclude by saying if money is no object, Lusso will build you a solid ADU. Your only job is to shut up ,stay out of Avi's way unless he comes to collect, and unwittingly write checks to him on demand. My advice to you, understand your rights and find a builder who is transparent about how your hard earned money is being spent and understands CSLB consumer rights. And maybe it was a blessing in disguise, because after vetting about 10 contractors (without the consultant) after this nightmare withLusso, we were armed with much better knowledge to know what to look for in a reputable and trustworthy builder, and best news of all, with a $80K savings to boot. Even our current builder isn't even the cheapest, but we feel confident we can trust him. read more

He responded immediately and sent someone out the very next day! They not only fixed it to perfection, but he just called us a few weeks later to see how it's doing and to confirm that there are no further issues!
