Not sure what others that gave good reviews are used to when having a manicure but I can assure you the experience can be better than what you encounter at this so called "spa". I've been having my nails done for twenty years but my spa just closed so I'm looking for a replacement. Be assured it won't be this place. Had a regular polish manicure. The guy thickly glopped on polish not using a drying fan between each coat. Because it was put on so thick of course he smudged it. When I complained His solution was to wipe polish off with a paper towel no remover. Without reapplying a base coat he globbbed on more polish. When complete he sat me under drying bar where I remained for 15 mins. Sat at home without doing anything for an additional hour. Next morning I have smudges on all nails and nicks on all tips. What a waste of money. I'd never go back! read more

I wasn't very impressed with this place to start. From the parking lot I never thought it looked like a place that should be called lux -- but several ppl on fbook recommended so I gave it a try. The inside is not nicely decorated -- the lighting is all mismatched. Covid precautions were not up to par at all -- a flimsy shower curtain between the pedicure chairs but still people side by side. Everywhere else I've been in the last year sit people with one space in between for both mani and pedi. Water was like room temp, she didn't even ask what I wanted just started cutting my nails (I had already cut them before I came and they were genuinely short as is). The massage was GREAT. I wish more places did it with the cuticle oil it makes it so much nicer. I was lying my head back w my eyes closed and instead of saying "excuse me" or "miss" she smacked the side of my leg w the hot stone to get my attention and ask if I wanted an extra massage. I would have prior to that but I just felt like it was extremely rude. $50 for gel pedi. The gel is ok, definitely needed another coat of funny bunny. I know it's translucent I've gotten it for years but if you do 3 coats it's not. Probably won't be back, as the other place I was recommended had many more references. read more

Asked for a dip manicure with an ombré in neutral tone. Kathy gave it her best try and unfortunately wasn't able to (that's perfectly fine). When I'd told her it wasn't looking as I had hoped, she abruptly cut all of my nails off and told me she wouldn't do them. She said she would soak them off and someone else would come over. She was very obviously upset that I asked for my nails fixed, as she was very rough taking them off. She left me sitting and waiting for 35+ minutes and no one came over to help. When she did come over to roughly scrape the rest off, she had me leave the salon with my hands a mess (picture below, no I did not come with my knuckles cut). I was not trying to be rude or unkind having my nails fixed, I just was trying to speak up so we could come to an agreement and I could leave with something that I had liked. Speaking up can be very difficult, and I really do not appreciate how I was made to feel when I'd asked for a change. Will absolutely never be back. read more

Nice decor, good location, nice service but beware: Just returned from treating my girlfriend (and myself) to a manicure. However, upon paying I was told the price was $30 each instead of $14 each because they had used (unasked) a special new polish on our nails. I refused to pay the new price - SIXTY dollars! - and offered to pay the agreed upon price. I was told they would take it off. Thinking the woman meant the extra charge I agreed - NO! She meant she would remove our nail polish. I repeatedly said I'd pay the quoted price and ended up leaving cash to cover the manicures plus tips on the counter. We were threatened that the police would be called and were told that it was OUR responsibility to ask about the price for the nail polish. I do not agree. This is not the first time I have been squeezed out of extra dollars by Lux Nails, but it will definitely be the last time I go there. Good luck. You'd think a local spa would try harder to keep its customers and not extort them to this extent. When is the last time you had to ask a manicurist how much the nail polish was going to cost?? I guess we are lucky they didn't charge us for the hand cream they applied. read more

A very nice place to go for a mani and pedi. Unlike many other nail salons, this place is pleasantly decorated and offers interesting work stations. The standard spa pedicure chairs are separated by curtains for a little privacy. The nail stations are situated around a giant granite countered bar with strategic cut outs for nail drying. Complimentary beverages are available (soda, bottled water, etc). The service is professional and courteous. Atmosphere is relaxing. A complimentary 5 to 10 minutes shoulder and neck massage is given for manicures! Prices are competitive for the area. No bargains here just a different experience. While I don't think they have the attention to detail on your nails as Serena's Nails in Pembroke, Lux does provide a pleasant way to spend an hour or so. Now if they only would serve a mixed cocktail or two at that manicure bar, that may be another star. read more

Been hooked since my first dip manicure! I was lucky to get lily my first time coming in, she is amazing, very detail oriented and she doesn't stop until my nails look absolutely perfect! She also gets the dip right down to the cuticle so I don't have to come rushing back for another fill, definitely my favorite nail salon right now. read more

I returned to Lux last week while in town visiting family to get my nails done for the holidays and as alway, left very happy. Lux is very clean and inviting, and the service is impeccable. They give complimentary neck and shoulder massages with manicures and have a great color selection, with lots of beautiful shades for Shellac as well. The owner, Dana, is great--sweet, sincere, always a smile on her face. She took over Lux from the previous owner only several months ago and as a longtime client of Lux, I see a vast improvement under her leadership. The employees are friendly, prices are very fair, and the quality of nail care is unbeatable. I've gone to Michelle's before, but consistently find the work at Lux superior and the service better. Charged me $40 for an acrylic fill. Completely outrageous since it's just a fill. It should only be $20 for acrylic fill and then $30 for a full set. And I brought my own gel in so they can't say they charged me for gel....I was astounded at the price when I went to pay. I asked why it was so much money and got some dumb answer and said ok well I won't be back. And enjoy this Yelp. Beware!!! Place is nice but not worth the $! Save your money, go down the street to get your nails done...save $20 and then take yourself to lunch after! Don't get robbed! read more

Two times I've tried it because it is close to home, two times it was no good. First time the person who gave me my pedicure just rushed through and did not give a good message or a good polish. I just went in today for an 11:30 appointment and at 12:10 I asked how much longer I would need to wait, they said they did not know. I looked around and it did not appear that it would be anytime soon so I left....that is the last time I will go to Lux Nails. They are awful!! read more

I was unsure about coming here after reading a negative review, but I had a very positive experience. I took my mom here for her first-ever manicure/pedicure and I found the service was very good. They offered extra services like a complimentary shoulder massage. My manicure lasted about week and the pedicure lasted for three weeks, a good amount of time. Tom and the staff are professional and very welcoming providing exceptional care and attention to the service of manicures and pedicures which look clean and of a commited high quality! As a nurse, making sure the environment in which I am getting my nails managed is important so it does not put me or ultimately my patients at risk for infections. LUX Nails makes sure to always clean and sanitize their equipment and the pedicure tubs. They also make great effort to know their customers and their personal preferences. This staff is sincere in their welcoming, kind and personable mannerisms! They truly enjoy talking with the customer and get to know them. They sincerely ENJOY what they do!!! It is NOT a place where making money is their priority! because they have a wonderful approach to caring for their customers! The result of this is that they have "regulars" just like myself who come every other week for their services..or as needed!!! I highly recommend LUX NAILS, DUXBURY! I've had two great experiences at Lux and would definitely recommend trying them. The setup of the salon is so unique with the nails done at what looks like a horseshoe shaped bar. The pedicure area is separated with sheer curtain panels and the privacy is really refreshing. This place is AMAZING. It's unlike any nail salon I've ever experienced. Friendly and personable workers, great product, and relaxing, clean atmosphere. I feel comfortable here knowing that everything is sterile. In response to c d.'s comments, the reason the nail polish cost $15 more is probably because it was Shellac. This nail polish lasts 2 weeks without chipping and is well worth the extra money. In addition, I was well informed about the extra costs when I inquired about the Shellac. I have been to see Kathy, Tiffany and Vi, they all do a great job! The pedicure includes a great massage and a hot towel prior to warm up the muscles. The gel mani is fantastic as well, offering both a shoulder massage and hot mits on your hands. I have not been disappointed in Lux Nails! My Mum and I go in there, and I brought a friend one day who was impressed as well. For the C.D. who wrote a bad review, learn the difference between a gel mani and straight mani. I have to agree with previous posters. The salon is clean and has a nice atmosphere. The employees are all very friendly. I also went for the manicure that doesn't chip, I think it is called OPI axxium. They didn't tell me it was going to be $30. I figured I would pay a few dollars more for it but I never imagined more than double. Honestly for that price i could just have my nails done every week. I think it is bad business to not be upfront. I'll be going back to Michelle's. read more
