Tampa has shifted all rental cars to a separate facility that you reach by shuttle train. The ride takes about five minutes, it runs smoothly, and in the handful of times I have used it, I have never had a delay or a hiccup. It is an easy, predictable part of the arrival routine. National is simple to find, and as an Emerald Aisle member, I still get to bypass the counter and head straight to the garage. I used to be Executive, but I am regular Emerald now, which means choosing from a slightly lower tier. That was not a problem today. For this visit, I specifically wanted a minivan and had my pick of at least a dozen, walking right past a row of SUVs and sedans to get the most boring and generic one with a Florida tag. Exiting the facility and heading to downtown was just as smooth. A friendly agent checked my ID, waved me through, and I was on the road within moments. The van itself was spotless, had fewer than 2000 miles, and ran without a single issue for the entire week. Returning the car was equally straightforward. The signage is clear, the lanes are well marked, and the whole process moves quickly. I had the email with my final receipt before I even stepped back onto the train to the terminal. The day before my scheduled pickup, I was contacted and informed that the large SUV I had reserved wouldn't be available and that they could only offer a 5-passenger vehicle instead. Unfortunately, that wouldn't work for our needs, so I asked them to cancel the reservation. Later that same day, I received another call letting me know that things had changed and the vehicle I originally requested was now available. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone wanted to see if I'd like to reinstate my reservation, and of course I said yes. When I arrived early the next morning, I was greeted by a friendly staff. One gentleman showed me to my vehicle, and while I was outside, the same gentleman I had spoken with on the phone (whose name I unfortunately don't remember) came outside just to thank me for my patience and understanding throughout the situation. He absolutely didn't have to take that extra step, but he did, and it really meant a lot. When I returned the vehicle on Monday, I was greeted by that same young man, and he even remembered my name. That level of personal customer service is rare these days. I was honestly a little nervous after reading some of the negative reviews, but my experience was the complete opposite. The location is very convenient if your hotel is in the area and you need a car. Plus, this location is open on Sunday, but with limited hours. Be prepared to wait since there is usually only 1 person servicing multiple customers. Customer service experience will be based on who is working that day. Usman provided the best customer service. I called ahead to ask questions, Usman answered all my questions. On arrival, he got us our car. We waited roughly 5 minutes on Saturday for the facility to be opened. We had an issue with the Ford Fusion, we had to go back, Usman quickly fixed the situation and got us a new car. Thank you Usman! You are the best! 2 days later, I decided to do a last minute rental at the same location midweek for 4:30pm pick up. After waiting 25 minutes along with 6 other people picking up cars, I called the 1800 number for Hertz and canceled my reservation. Usman was not working on this day. He offered to pick us up and take us to the airport free of charge just to make sure the kids got there safely. That kind of kindness and care is so rare these days. I rented a vehicle for seven days, and on the second day I received a charge for a one-way rental that I never requested. It was clearly a clerical error on Budget's part. When I called, I was told not to worry and that it would be corrected when I returned the vehicle. When I returned the car, I was then told there was nothing the local office could do and that I would have to wait for Corporate to process a refund. My original rental was approximately $430, but I was charged $1,462 because of Budget's mistake. Now I have to wait for Corporate to issue a credit while they hold over $1,000 of my money. Mistakes happen, but the complete lack of accountability and inability of the local office to correct an obvious billing error is unacceptable. If you value accurate billing and responsive customer service, I would recommend choosing another rental company.
