We were able to visit it only once 3 years ago. Since then they were closed for renovation. Tried to stop by today, but got warm welcome notice that due to "safety reasons" they don't work 24 Dec - 26 Dec. Why don't own a decision and just say - "we are closed these days" and that's it. Such "safety reasons" sounds like a BS and excuses. Closed? I'm fine. But own it! Don't give some lame reasons. Banner just at the entrance "eat local" is so ironic. Not sure if we'll give one more try next time.

Staying in Birch Bay many locals sent us over to Lynden to see the tiny quaint Dutch town. Loved the tasty Stroopwafel latte and a delicious raspberry muffin. I considered taking one of everything as it all looked so good. We came in during lunchtime and the line kept growing on this very wet and rainy day.

Loved this place! I can't wait to come again and again. While I was there the owner/baker (not exactly sure) came out and chatted with a young couple who had special ordered lavender cupcakes for their wedding. The couple was so pleased, and the owner/baker was kind and cordial. We ate a doughnut which was glazed, twisted with a bit of cinnamon, and clearly homemade in style. We had a flourintine that was crispy and sweet, which was nice because they get soft and soggy easily. We got a cookie for our daughter. I'm sure it will be devoured, as it is pink and sparkly. If I had to pick a con, then I would say the espresso was too strong/dark for my taste. But that's really just a matter of preference, and merely something to be aware of.

Visiting my mom's hometown of Lynden to try the Dutch Bakery. I know I've been here before, but probably 40 years ago. Wife had seen a segment on King5Evening and wanted to try it on our next visit. Everything looked good, wife & daughter had a tough time deciding. Settled on a cherry strudel (apple was sold out), blueberry muffin, and a raspberry macaron, washed down with a couple of lattes. Interesting historic timeline on wall, and fun oldtime decor. Come early for best selection. Indoor/outdoor seating available.

Raspberry coffee cake, note there is no raspberries inside the cake or seen from above the cake.

When I placed my order I asked for coffee to please be served in a reusable "ceramic" cup as a "here" order. I had seen a dish bin with empty cups and was initially thrilled that this would be an option! I'm so over adding single use cups to the waste stream. It really hurts to do so when there is a different and better option. I even mentioned to the woman taking my order that I was trying to reduce my waste (to explain why I was asking for my coffee in a ceramic cup). Initially excited to pick up my (americano) coffee when my name was called, I instead saw on the counter my coffee in not just one disposable cup, but in 2 cups! The 'label' clearly said 'here'. I felt so duped. Guess I shouldn't have trusted I'd get my order in a real cup since when I looked around, all the other customers sitting there had disposable cups too. WHY? No idea (poor training, poor communication, ran out of ceramic cups, hopefully not "green washing"?!) but I'm so mad about this and sharing in the spirit of hoping that this was just a one-time glitch and others don't experience the same frustration.

Ceramic is clearly an option. Was this just staged? Or can a customer actually choose to not create waste.

When I went there, however, I was a little disappointed that it was not as extravagant as I was hoping. Their choices in baked goods were very scarce. When I arrived there I found out that they do not serve their breakfast/lunch menu, but instead the daily special advertisement from their indoor sign. I ordered the Mozzarella & Caramelized Onions Focaccia bread and their cappuccino. The focaccia was great with the caramelized onions adding succulence and flavour that stood out. The cappuccino was good, nothing special though. I also had their Almond Butter cake, which was good as well if not a little solid to eat. There was not much to talk about the interior ambiance of the café and there was not much space inside, unless you go to the back of the café. The staff was very courteous in serving me and has a good deal of knowledge about their business. My experience at the Duft & Co Bakehouse was pretty good, and I would like to give them another try. However, it will be a while because of their obscured business hours would be hard for me to come around.

I've been dying to try this bakery for awhile and each time I have failed and it's no one's fault but mine since they were either sold out or I came on a day they were closed. So this day I planned ahead. I got there ten minutes before opening which always makes me feel awkward but a line was already formed outside. Once they opened you go in and are greeted with a wide array of pastries and baked goods. I picked quite a few but will say that I'm biased as I went to pastry school and well this was the best croissant I've ever had. It was flaky on the outside and nice and buttery on the inside. You can tell that they worked hard on these and laminated them perfectly. The coffee was good too but the pastries stole the show and I will be back.

But honestly, I just want to share this place with the world because it's truly something special. Plenty of places have a "Santa" visit for the holidays... but Bellewood? Bellewood is buzzing this time of year: Tons of apples (and they ship to out-of-state family and friends!)
