I've been a regular customer here since I lived in Randolph in 1985 and I have driven over an hour many times for their pizza. However... the last 2 times here I have noticed a significant change in the pizza. The crust is not as sweet and crispy as before. The sauce and cheese blend is somehow different and I believe they changed the linguica (from Michael's). The overall product is not how I remember it. Being in the restaurant business, I understand that due to supply lines it has been difficult to source products and changes often need to be made. Just OK Everything about the Lynwood is right up my alley. 70's pizza parlor interior, cheap drinks, cash only, veteran staff, and quick service. The Lynwood has a strange process of paying. While we sitting at the bar (where we ate), you have to pay for each individual drink you order. Even the waitresses have to pay the bar for a round of drinks that they bring to a table out of pocket before it's served. Strange? Tip: Cash Only, no exceptions Now for the vaunted "bar pies". I was very excited about this because of all if the great things I have heard about this old tyme institution. Sadly, they just weren't that good. The place has been around since 1949, and it's looks like they haven't changed a thing. I grew up going to places like this so, I understand nostalgia, I understand when people grow up with something, that food reminds them of home or better times. Maybe because this wasn't something that I had grown up eating, I didn't like it. My husband didn't like it. My husbands family loved it though, which is great. The only thing on the menu is pizza with a choice of maybe 6 or 7 different toppings. They come in a small size with a flat crackery crust. it was edible and I'm sure if I had been out drinking all day, it would've been awesome. The staff was friendly and the prices were cheap. I did a search on Yelp for a local spot and made a wonderful discovery. This highly rated location was the perfect pick. When driving up, I did a quick take and kept driving thinking there is no way it could be that good. A half mile down the road and a quick u-turn, I grabbed a booth near a TV. I was quickly approached and it had the vibe of a local hangout as the waitress thought I was someone that frequented there asking "what can I get you?" I explained it was my first visit and she grabbed the one page menu. Simple and easy, drinks on one side and food on the other. Sam Adams Seasonal on tap and it was cold. I saw something on the menu that I hadn't eaten in 30 years, anchovy pizza (picture posted). The pizza was the perfect size for one and I felt very comfortable there. The best pizza in the world. I've had pizza in Manhattan, the Bronx's Little Italy, Brooklyn, and Rome. Nobody comes close to the Lynwood and its bar pizza. I've been going to the Lynwood for 50 years traveling from Newton Cambridge, Rhode Island, and SE MA. When my 4 adult kids come to the area, they always make a trek to the Lynwood. Amazing bar pies after a long hike at Blue Hills yesterday. They had takeout down pat, exceptionally friendly service over the phone and in person. The other night when picking up, my love grew even more. I did look it up and it's a bar that serves pizza. My biggest problem is THAT'S IT. Pizza ONLY. Oh and Alcohol. No Wings, No Fries, No Nothing. What in the world. My second problem with it is that is Cash only. It's rare that I have a bit of money on me. So.... there is a ATM machine in the middle of the restaurant. LOL What??? My 3rd issue issue is people saying it's great pizza!! It was tasty, but no exclamation points. And 4. It's bar pizza..... it takes a shorter amount of time to cook then an average pizza, so why was our wait so long???????? No, No one more. 5. It's no doubt that they are making money. Then please update the place. I wasn't around in 1949 when they opened, but walking through that door is like walking through a moment in time. Would I eat there again? Perhaps take out.
