Husband got the chicken tenders and they were so good. Nice and crispy, but not overly breaded and the chicken was perfect. No grease at all. I got the walleye tacos. First, love you can get corn shells instead of flour. Second, the walleye! Lots of it and very little breading. Third, the slaw on top was really good! Crisp, fresh and excellent flavor. This was a nightcap stop for us. The staff was cool....not necessarily inviting but felt more tolerate of our stop although it was 1.5 hours before their close. Being a service worker, no problem after all who the heck knows what the night brought in earlier. The atmosphere is delicious, the lighting is beautiful and it creates the best ambiance that we found thus far in the city. The drinks we drank were a carry over from dinner and a stop prior, apple Jack and a golden draft. Very unimpressed with the fact they charged 1.32 for ice....a random 10.56 for a shot of crown. It was over $20 and showed up as a cup of raw potatoes and a burnt pastry on the side when the photo was a beautiful pot pie. when I called, Alyssa, the manager brushed me off completely and told me I had to speak to Doordash about a refund. We tried the Lyric based on a recommendation and we were very disappointed. Service was fine. Food was a huge disconnect. We got Saturday night prime rib which was cooked to the temperature ordered but the sides were a train wreck. Mashed potatoes (crusty), veggies and popovers were cold for all of us at the table. Decided to check this out with a couple coworkers this week. Service was quick and friendly, the place is clean, presentation is really nice. I had the pork fritter...nicely done, seasoned light and crispy. Good clean oil, cooled hot and done right. Others had a burger and the pot pie, which look tasty, good portion in a bowl with a nice puff pastry topper. Vegetables were steamed lightly, food and crunchy, not overdone or much...kudos. Been here for breakfast and for beers. Breakfast-plenty of choices, all the choices you would expect. The ham and cheese omelet was good. Orange juice was good and so was the coffee. We went to this restaurant which is right below Holiday Inn, where we stayed. I could have chosen another place of course. But when my son and I stepped in there to check it out, it looked inviting and kid friendly. So I told my wife and we put our name on the wait list. When we came down and got seated, the service was great. Our server was attentive to us and we felt good. Wherever I go, I like to try their soup, French Onion soup to be more specific. So I ordered my soup and a chicken pot pie they had in the menu. Shortly after getting our drinks (I had the Cucumber Mint mule), we got our meals. Now, I love French Onion soup, when I tasted the one I ordered I was morbidly disappointed! It tasted like I was having a cup of warm sea water! It was so damn salty my lips began burning shortly after. I am not exaggerating. Needless to say I did not continue eating it. But remember, I also ordered a chicken pot pie. My thought was that it was going to be fantastic...well, it wasn't! Chicken was a tad undercooked. It was too hard to even enjoy. The gravy that's supposed to be creamy in a pot pie was like soup. The crust that I'm usually looking forward to having tasted like it was just a baked filo piece thrown on top. It did not contribute any flavor to the bland soup and hard squares of chicken in there. It was horrible!! Maybe I had bad luck that day....had another French Onion soup at a different place and it was also terrible (read my review on Grandma's restaurant). So, bad food at the Lyric and great service. Service is great when it's accompanied with great food, isn't it? My saving grace was the mule I ordered. Slowest service award of my lifetime till now :) goes to this place. Family of 4, we ordered the most basic breakfast order. It took 30+ minutes to get our food. After we were done eating, it took 15 mins for our server to look back at us and finally get our check which took another 5 mins :) MANAGER: If there were two marriage parties coming at the same time, please get more staff for that day! Lyric is a mixed bag and it seems a little like an Applebee's that's trying to masquerade itself as a luxury restaurant. FOOD: The food was good but not as great as they claim in their menu. They set themselves up for failure with excessive menu bragging. For example, my 9 ounce Lyric Kitchen Cut Sirloin was okay, but it wasn't worth 18 bucks and it definitely wasn't (as described in the menu), "a thing of artisanal beauty". And my Gratin of French Onion Soup was just okay. It was missing the "house made crouton", I unearthed regular factory sliced bread hiding at the bottom, and it definitely didn't seem "soupe chic". My wife's 22 dollar scallops were a little rubbery and definitely not "a true deep-sea treasure". You get the idea. Maybe they should have a smaller menu and do less things better...instead of more things average. BTW, the Creme Brulee was awesome! SERVICE: The service was excellent and our server was great! One big turn-off was she announced all kinds of discounts when she first greeted us. Didn't these guys just open? They're greeting customers with discounts? Am I really sitting in a Denny's? I think they cheapen themselves with this type of opening. Just pick a fair price and stick with it. DECOR: The restaurant is very beautiful. I love the blacks & grays and the unfinished concrete. The custom lights are pretty cool too. Nice! CUSTOMERS: Last but NOT least...our dinner experience was totally ruined by several groups of goofball customers that suddenly showed up late in our dinner! (Our server said that they come from the Holiday Inn on the upper floors and they bring herds of kids because Lyric offers discounts for the rug rats.) There were several tables of losers that showed up who were loud, obnoxious, and for some reason, kept their winter coats and winter hats on during dinner! Really? It's 72 degrees inside! Time to take off the puffer jackets and the ski hats! This isn't White Castle! Also, there were hoards of obnoxious kids running around, bouncing on & off their chairs, and a couple were kicking our booth. (See my photo with faces blotted out for privacy.) I really wonder if the hotel discounts are a good idea. It encourages the cheap skates to show up when they should really be eating Happy Meals at the McDonald's Playplace. So I was looking for a steak for dinner. Used yelp to look for a place to get one. Came across Lyrics saw they had prime rib and pop over dinner. Thinking great no to far from me too. Sat at the bar after waiting ordered about 30 minute make reservations if going on the back eek end I would say.French onion soup came to me in a timely manner cheese wasn't as browned like it should be. Had good flavor. But it had two croutons in it that soaked up all the stock. Ordered my prime rib med rare. My diner med rare and a Caesar salad. The salad came to me very large one. The sales was not bad dressing could have a little more flavor. The prime rib came to me cooked med. steak was tender good flavor but the ribeye. Didn't have that nice crust that baking does. The carrots was mush very over cooked. The mashed potatoes was ok needed salt badly but once salted they was pretty good. The pop over was ok but came to me cold not warmed up at all. Pop overs should be all ways served warm since there's so much egg in them they get to firm. They came with a nice honey butter jelly st right on the sweetness. Ordered the creme brûlée came to me kinda long time. Looked great had a nice crust and sheet of burnt sugar. The crust was perfectly crunchy( too many never get this right) the creme part had good flavor. But very thin no real firmness to it but good flavor. Of the 4 people in my party, 2 of us were very happy with Lyric and 2 of the others were not at all pleased. I highly recommend the pretzel pub sticks with the beer cheese sauce. Very, very yummy! And my friend loved her sandwich. The pasta one gal ordered was disgusting. It was like someone dumped Campbell's tomato soup over cooked noodles. She couldn't even eat it. And then our waitress botched the bill 3 times. But the atmosphere is updated and warm. The prices are reasonable as far as Duluth restaurants go. I think I would go again for a few drinks and apps. Don't order the pasta though. But be sure to get those pretzels and beer cheese dip! read more

Was not expecting this place to be as Delicious as it was. It was our third choice for the night after every other place in Duluth was busy. Friendly staff, delicious food and a great price. I normally don't do reviews but I think this needs to be shared. I will say that the setting was nice, the place was clean, and everyone was nice to us, but that's where the good things ended. We had a group of 10 and went to Lyric for brunch on a Sunday. We were told it would be about20 min wait. At 11:00 (20minutes) we saw that there were many tables open so I went to get an update from the host. I had to stand and wait there for over 5 minutes for the host to come over (a couple of other groups had started to line up behind us). They finally got us in and it was at this time we noticed that the place was maybe half full at the most. The table wasn't set and we had to wait a bit for that as well as waters. We had to wait a bit for drinks and when they finally came, they gave everyone their drinks but they forgot mine. Our waitress was friendly but she only came to check on us once, maybe twice. The wait time on the food was a bit ridiculous. We were seated a few minutes after 11 but we didn't receive our food until 12:08. The food was decent. I had one pancake but it was pretty dry so I needed syrup-which they didn't give me (I had to go to the bar to ask my waitress for the syrup and some hot sauce). I tried my buddy's fried-those were pretty yummy. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food. All in all it wasn't a great experience but I guess it could've been worse. The hostess clearly didn't know who I was so after about 3 minutes of him standing there we finally asked to get a spot. He seemed flustered and higgity hungover so I forgave him. I like the mix of restaurant/bar with TVs to watch sports. Solid camaraderie. VJ ordered The Duluthian which gave me a VJEP like none before. The bloody I got was not really good imho. I'm not sure why people are such big fans. It's just ok but we recently had an experience where it took forever for our lunch and then the walleye taco was cold. We didn't have time for them to redo the meal and they took the item off but the manager never stopped by to offer an apology. The server blamed the kitchen for not telling her the food was ready. What a delicious meal! We ordered the onion ring appetizer, clam chowder, walleye sandwich with rings, and the asian salad with chicken and shrimp added to it. The onion rings are RIDICULOUSLY good -- huge and crispy and plentiful. Walleye was cooked perfectly, and the salad was a generous portion with a great combination of ingredients. Went for lunch w the hubs- we both had walleye. The walleye tacos I had- superb. Enormous! The walleye was nicely breaded- good portion of fish. The slaw was amazing with the remoulade. Quite quite tasty. My husband's walleye sandwich he said was good- the walleye itself not too flavorful (probably the same as mine)- the waitress brought out tartar sauce and lemon slices after asking if he wanted them, definitely should have just come out with.... however he said the focaccia was delicious and overall it was a good sandwich. Place was busy on a Friday at noon- getting the downtown crowd. However our waitress was prompt and food came out relatively quickly considering only a few tables were open inside. I had stopped by once prior w a friend after a y work out- it seemed slow and empty (probably like 130?). The menu is pretty extensive even for lunch. Not many veg/fish options.
