Delicious plate lunches at friendly prices. Finding myself without lunch on a weekday afternoon, I decided to checkout this small, unassuming plate lunch restaurant. Most likely I will be back. M & M provides tasty, but also completely affordable meals for those in search of local food. I ordered the mini mochiko chicken, and was not disappointed. My lunch came out piping hot, and the way I like the dish - super crunchy on the outside but not overdone at all meat-wise. The portions themselves are pretty generous as well, and I found the mini could easily stave off my mid-day hunger. The owner is very accommodating, and treats her customers with friendly care. She inquired to see if everything was to my liking, which I really appreciate from a mom & pop shop like this one. Parking additionally is very simple, being part of a smaller shopping plaza. Omg I remember this type of food from a long time ago. I wanted a hamburger steak plate with Teri beef. The lady kept asking me what else and I said beef curry. Well I had no idea that the plate would be this: Tons of rice on bottom, pour a ton of beef curry over that. On top of that layer teri beef with the sauce over that. On the side a scoop of macaroni salad. Then put your burger with gravy over that!!!! Uhhhh. Sorry but I just couldn't eat it. Everything was mixed together like mad. Now, when I fished out each selection by itself it was actually pretty tasty! The beef curry was pretty good with lots of meat. The obligatory carrot was in there as well - well cooked! The teri beef was tasty but tough. The hamburger was ok. I guess I never expected everything to be layered and therefore mixed together. I guess over the years I just grew out of this type of food. It's what it is, something from the past. For the people that never had this sort of food ever, try it I guess If you can finish a plate like this, more power to you! read more

First time trying this small plate lunch business. It is located next to the old Aiea library and Aiea Manapua. Arrived at lunch, was greeted from the counter help which appeared to be the owner. M & M BBQ is a hole in the wall take out place in Aiea, which is located next door to Aiea Manapua or across the Aiea Library. The food here is really cheap compared to other places. The owners are nice and the food is ready fast as well. I ordered the combo beef stew and fried chicken plate. The beef stew was good but the potatoes needed to be cooked little longer because it was kind of hard. The fried chicken was delicious and they give you two big pieces of chicken, one in the plate and one outside the plate because they are too big to fit in the lunch plate. The combo lunch plate was $8.60 which was super cheap and I was super full. I tried the loco moco and Chicken katsu plates here before and they are also good too. I really like this place for the value and for selected food items. The BBQ meat and kalbi are very, very good. The BBQ chicken is good but not great. The french fries are crinkle cut but unsalted, and their salt doesn't stick too well to the fries (have to bring some popcorn salt). The teri beef sandwich is really good. The steak plate is awesome for around $8 but the BBQ mix plate, with kalbi, beef, and chicken, is around the same price for (easily) twice the meat. Any time you're in the mood for steak or (Korean) BBQ, you won't go wrong coming here and saving $$$ compared to its competitors. The owners are so nice and helpful. Always friendly and patient. I ordered a teri beef burger and two #3 bentos for lunch. I assumed they would be actual bentos and was surprised to find they were huge portions in a styrofoam container. The #3 bento is enough to feed two regular people and contains rice, teri beef, bbq chicken, spam, fried mahi and mac salad for the win. All the food items you basically need to feel like a true local. Throw in a can of cold Hawaiian Sun juice and it's over son. The teri beef burger was ridiculously good and I wish I had ordered one for myself! What I liked is that it wasn't overly saturated in teri sauce but still had great flavor. ***4.5 stars*** hubby and i came to hawaii knowing that we definitely wanted to try a local hang out spot with no frills and reasonable price tags. thanks to yelp, we found this place not too far from pearl harbor, where we were spending the day visiting. this little hole-in-the-wall is located in a small shopping center in aiea, about a mile north of the pearl harbor visitors' center. upon walking in, we saw just a few booths and tables, specials on the wall, and a small counter with menus and the cashier taking orders. this is one of the places were you order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. i ordered the bbq chicken plate, which came with chicken teriyaki, a scoop of white rice, and green salad. i also ordered one egg over easy on the side, for extra protein. the chicken was quite good, very juicy and tasty. i'm not usually a bbq chicken fan, but the lady told me that it was the same as teriyaki, and right she was, since it tasted exactly like teriyaki sauce on grilled chicken. the white rice was your typical white rice, which went great with the teriyaki sauce. the green salad wasn't anything special, just some lettuce with one slice of tomato. although i will say that the single slice was very fresh, tasted like it was just sliced off a tomato that was freshly picked off a farm. and the egg? it was perfect, folded over easy with a thin layer of egg white over a perfectly cooked yolf, still 100% runny, the way i like it! best of all, this delicious meal only cost me $5.80 (not incl tax & tip)! for the amount and quality of food, this price was unreal and i would definitely return for another lunch plate. note that they take cash only. also advise parking in the small lot right in front of the restaurant, since we parked in the back of the restaurant/building and were asked to move our car. read more

We needed a dish for our tailgate for the Hawaii Bowl and decided on mochiko chicken. I yelped restaurants in the area that had what we wanted. After speaking to the girl at the restaurant, we ended up ordering a small pan of what they called mochiko chicken. She said it would be about 10 min. so we decided to pick up some other things from the store before heading there. We arrive about 15 min later and the girl tells me I need to wait another 10 min. After 10 min the food is ready and it looked very undercooked and nothing like mochiko chicken. I asked her if it was cooked and she said it was, but it didn't have time to soak so it looked like that (pale and undercooked). We get to the stadium and open the pan. The first person who tried it spit it out and said it was really salty. The next person said that when they bit it, it was mushy batter. I was afraid to try it, but I had just paid $30 for this so I had to see what I paid for. It was horrible. It was just as they had described it, salty and mushy. It had no similarities to the mochiko chicken we are used to. I wish I had a picture to show how bad it looked, but I was too disappointed I forgot to take one. Good thing we had a lot of other good food to choose from. I took it to a party we went to after because we had a whole pan left. It was a good thing majority of the people there already had a few too many drinks and devoured most the pan, but even then, they complained of the saltiness! Very small hole in the wall type of restaurant. Not a lot of seating and parking can be tough. But for $5 you can park at the lot behind the restaurant. The food is surprisingly pretty decent. Nothing out of the ordinary or major wow factors but it's typical island food. The only downside is the tempura shrimp is the breaded frozen ones like (Van De Kamp), other then that the food was good. They get lots of party orders. People coming by to pickup trays of food. Mochiko chicken was really good being light and fluffy had a more tempura style batter unlike the traditional mochiko chicken they have at Tanioka's and Fukuya catering. My wife and I used to frequent M&M BBQ some years ago and I guess the food just didn't bring us back until now. Not knowing what to eat for dinner I offered to get a couple of bentos from M&M BBQ, it should be pretty decent or so I thought. The bentos included rice, Mac salad, Teri chicken, Teri beef, a slice of spam and a piece of battered fish that I think was Basa. I believe the meals were just under $9 and looked pretty decent. The chicken was the saving grace for this bento, tasty and moist. And that was the only thing I liked in the bento. The beef, while tasty, was really dry. The spam was thick cut and was OK, but that fish was just terrible. If I had known it was that bad I would off been happy if they just left it off. It was smelly and tasted terrible, a waste of good tartar sauce. The macaroni seemed overcooked in the Mac salad also. My fondest dish that I remember was their crinkle cut fries that are always served piping hot. Other than that I remember their sandwiches were pretty decent. Don't know if I will return. read more
