He accompanied us to the property, examined everything with care, and answered all our questions with great patience. Zero stars. Avoid at all costs! Terrible installation, and the owner, Chris, completely avoided talking to us to resolve the problem. I'm sorry but that's extremely cowardly to completely avoid talking to a customer to resolve an issue. The installers did not remove the old carpet padding, despite it saying to do so in the contract. We did not find out until later when we needed to pull up a corner of the carpet. Was baffled that they literally cut corners. They also didn't tell us that the subfloors needed repairing and did a crappy job of patching it with scrap wood. I'm particularly baffled that the owner won't even talk to us. He obviously knows that they do shoddy work. Terrible service, terrible installation, terrible resolution, terrible company. read more

The whole job went perfect in my parents home. I'm picky but nice. Chris came out for the estimate. Nice guy. Easy to work with. Bid came in about where it needed to be. I didn't bother getting other estimates because I don't have time! Scheduling was easy. My job was repairs then refinish the room including three top coats. And a small repair to a section in another room. The quality of their work was excellent. They are meticulous. Couldn't be happier. I have was trying to get into the gallery to look at some carpet, they are only open by appointment. I ended up finding the carpet at a different place, but I ordered it through M&M because the guy who installed my carpet prefers picking it up there. It is very hard to get an appointment with Judy unless you want to come down there during rush hour. I really do not understand this kind of customer service. She is without any doubt the rudest person I have ever dealt with in the field of customer service. I hope I never have the misfortune of dealing with someone else like her again. read more

Contractor (M&M) rescheduled once shortly before appointment scheduled 1-2 weeks in advance. Attempted to reschedule, but contractor's messaging service apparently did not communicate this to the owner. Contractor arrived nonetheless and took our family moved around business meetings so he could take measurements and not have to visit again. Shortly thereafter contractor wrote to say the entire company was too busy to even provide an estimate. At no point in time, did the contractor ask our family's time frame for hardwood floor installation or discuss workload. Contractor has not responded to subsequent attempts at communication. All in all, this was a disappointing experience and not a good use of time. Just my opinion, of course, but it's a poor sign of professionalism to visit for measurements and then disappear. We're a busy family, and we don't have time to invite contractors into our home to measure our home, fail to discuss next steps, provide perfunctory explanations, and fail to respond to follow up emails. read more

I was recommended to this company when I started searching for a reputable place to do a flooring job. I was told they were one of the premiere flooring places in the DC metro area. I have a lot of good things to say after my experience and only a couple bad things. I would recommend them to someone else because I believe that there are always unique circumstances under which things may not go perfectly. When contacting them for the initial estimate, they were friendly, helpful and gave me an appointment date that was convenient. The people who came out to give the estimate were very knowledgeable and friendly. It was this fact that convinced me to go with this company. I will freely admit their pricing was a bit higher than others who came out. The bottom line is that they convinced me that they could do the job, do it well, and explain to me why they were doing what they were doing and what to expect. Due to the cost, I decided to do the demolition of the old flooring myself. Now I understand why they charge so much for this work. :) The installation part of the estimate was very reasonable. In fact when compared to buying the wood online and installing it myself, if you factor in shipping and tool rental, it was about the same price. If I already had the necessary tools, I might have saved $100, which hardly covers my own labor, and then of course there is the whole experience and warranty disparity between my work and theirs to consider. They did a great job installing the flooring in terms of the final product. The wood matched the existing flooring quite well. I was not sure initially that I would pay them to do the finishing of the wood. They were quite a bit more expensive in this department and I considered doing it myself as well. The biggest concern was matching the color of the existing flooring and their confident assertions that they could match it won me over. They put up a dust barrier and used a dustless sanding system. I wouldn't say it was 100% dustless but it was close. The people who came out to sand the floor didn't tell me they were going to put the first finish coat on. This was a problem for me because they left out the back door without locking it. I needed to get into the basement through that door as well as be inside in order to lock the door. Plus if the cat planned on eating or going to the bathroom for the next 6 hours, it was going to be a problem. I did manage to overcome this issue but I wish they had been a bit more up front about this aspect. Additionally, they apparently spilled some urethane on the driveway. This left a dark discoloration. I was upset about this fact to be sure. The follow up finish layers to the flooring were done by a different crew who were much better about telling me what they were doing, and the time frame involved to protect the flooring. At first, I was not convinced that the flooring finish matched the existing, however, after some time passed, I gladly conceded that it was a very close match. They also gave me a finished step at the basement stairway access, and fixed the carpeting back up, trimmed to fit. The carpet installation was perhaps not the best, but was passable without close scrutiny. Their customer service on the phone for follow up calls during this process was not the best. The person answering the phones had a gruff attitude and it required many calls to get in touch with who I needed to talk to and to get the information I needed. This was a concern because it represents the company poorly in comparison to the people who showed up to the house. I contacted them regarding the stain on the driveway. They were not particularly responsive about this issue. They were evasive initially. Then they claimed to have come out to the house (while I was home) without knocking on the door or asking me where the stain was. They took a picture of part of the driveway that was not stained and emailed it to me as proof that they did not stain the driveway. This was highly irritating to me. There was much argument about this issue, and finally they said they would send someone out to clean the stain with chemicals. I am not sure when or if they showed up because again, they did not knock on the door to alert me to their presence. They freely admitted to not being able to remove the stain, which of course, they clearly did not remove. So, we paid the bill and left it at that. A short time later, my neighbor decided to use them for some flooring in his house and he was overall very happy with their service. He apparently did not run into the same problems that I did. Overall, I would say they do great work, and have some great people working for them. The prices are a bit higher than other companies, but my guess is that their work is better as well. Just keep in mind that you may have to verbally wrestle with the person answering the phones. Also, I recommend being on top of the situation to avoid any possible problems up front. read more

If I could select negative stars I would. Let me just say I'm usually a positive reviewer but this review has to be written. I agree with every negative review on here, from Mary being a gatekeeper, to the horridness of the owners, specifically Tim, who is the only one I've had the misfortune to deal with. I've also used this company twice before. One was a sand and refinish job for a floor we had removed the carpet on ourselves. The second job was a small area and during that job they put a hole in our wall, didn't properly reinstall the toilet, and then rolled the refrigerator back over the still wet finish on the hardwoods, and when we tried to move it a couple of months later to clean behind it, it was stuck to the floor and ripped up the finish. They also left out a huge chunk near the floor register that they had to come back and repair. But, sh*t happens I thought, and the floors overall looked good. After having a not so great experience with another flooring company we decided to use them again to replace a floor. TOTAL NIGHTMARE! Tim was unfriendly and Mary never followed up once without a phone call from me. Tim would say they'd get back to me that afternoon and each time I never heard from them so had to call Mary. She gave me the "Oh Tim just put that on my desk and I was getting ready to call you" speech every single time. The estimate was within my price range and the time frame was exactly what I needed so I went with them. HUGE MISTAKE!! They told me I could use the same type of wood that had already been in there & had an insect issue, which the two other companies advised against. Every time I was supposed to hear back from them I wouldn't. I would call Mary and ask to speak with Tim and he was unreachable. They said they would tear out on Monday and start the install Thursday morning and finish on Friday so I could have the house on the market Saturday at the latest and do an open house on Sunday. They tore out the old wood on Monday but left some in the closet which was an issue I found on Wednesday when I stopped by to check to make sure it was all set. Since the wood was infested and ALL of it needed to be removed so I could have the floor professionally exterminated and the exterminator was on his way, I had to call twice to get them to come out before the exterminator got there even though they were only five minutes from my house. But then the big whammy, Thursday morning, THE DAY OF, at 7:24 a.m., Mary called to say that they were all wandering around the warehouse looking and there was no wood and it turned out that it had been back ordered and it wouldn't be in until the end of the month, which then would be a holiday weekend, so they would not be able to install it for over three weeks from the original install date. I could not believe what I was hearing. She's the office manager and she had no idea the wood wasn't in and was back ordered for a job that morning? I asked to speak with Tim and she said he was out with the workmen and couldn't speak with me. I told her I needed to speak with him immediately and to have him call me. You would think the owner would call to apologize and try to find a solution. Instead when he begrudgingly called me and I pointed out that Mary was having problems and didn't seem to be on top of the job and someone should have known the wood was backordered, he blew up at me & said Mary was working her a** off trying to get wood for my job. Mary was telling me that "they had to send guys home who now had no work" as if it were my fault. However Mary was never on top of things from the beginning of this process, which started when I dropped off a key & a deposit check on the 9th and found out on the 17th there was no wood for the promised job. Why a flooring company as large as M&M would not check their jobs for the next day AT LEAST the night before, not to mention check to see that the wood had come in when it was due, is beyond me. It certainly is not the sign of a big well-run company or even a small well-run company. Then they called back to say it seemed like I needed to "get moving on this job" and so they were going to refund my deposit less the $819 for tearing out the wood. So they then dumped me after screwing me over. As I called around other flooring companies, I found out from the two I called that no wood should ever be installed immediately in a home; it needs to acclimate to the new environment and so the wood needs to be brought into the home and sit for several days to adjust to the house climate and only then can it be installed. Both companies were adamant about that. BUYER BEWARE. Do NOT use this company unless you want to end up with no wood the day of installation, for weeks!, wood that will be improperly installed, and no offer of using another wood or someone actually working their a** off for you. Can't believe they're still in business. It was $300 difference in price and no wood. Don't be their next victim! read more

Awful experience. Hired M and M floors to replace old flooring with new hardwood oak floors. The flooring they laid on the second floor was cracking, popping and moving quite a bit. I asked them about the problems. Their onsite installer, Billy, acknowledged the problems, told me that they should have stopped after half of a room instead of doing three rooms. Billy then said I had bad wood and should contact the manufacturer. I contacted the manufacturer and they sent out a third party inspector. The inspector discovered that the wood was nailed every 12-30" when it should be every 4-6". Some wood had zero nails!! After admitting that they should have stopped work and after reading the third party inspector's report M and M floors said that the third party inspector always blames the installer and wouldn't take any responsibility. My subfloor on the first floor needed repair and M and M offered to do the repairs. On the day of the repairs there carpenter left after 15 minutes saying he couldn't do it and walked out. It took me two weeks to get someone from M and M to call me back and come out to my house. One of the owners, Chris, came out and concurred that they should not have laid so much wood and should have stopped to inform me that there were problems. Chris said he would talk to the other owner, Tim, and get back to me the next business day. I called them twice a day for a week, they finally called me back after a week of ignoring me. I offered to return all the original wood and pay them to complete the subfloor repair and buy all new wood from them. M and M floors refused to proceed. It took two more weeks to get my deposit back. I insisted they pull up the wood that they installed incorrectly at no charge. They sent Billy back out and he quit after 10 minutes and walked out. M and M refused to honor their commitment to remove the incorrectly installed wood. What an enourmous waste of time, energy and money!! M and M floors should have either quickly refunded my money and parted ways amicably or finished the job as promised. NO INTEGRITY! DO NOT USE THEM! I am reporting them to DPOR. read more

M & M Floors refinished our red oak hardwood floors the week of June 25. They were on time and prompt every morning. The crew were polite, courteous, respectful and friendly. Mike mixed the stains to our satisfaction, showing some sample mixes painted directly on the sanded floor. The shoe mounding was cut to perfection as were the newly added flush mount floor registers. Mike taped plastic up and kept the dust to a minimum. Mike, Casson, Gustavo, Paul.....you guys did a great job! Our newly refinished floor is gorgeous and looks better than the original ever did! The office staff was also tremendously helpful and very polite and courteous at all times! I highly recommend this company! read more

This company was recommended to me by a family member. I was initially impressed by how long they have been in business in this Northern VA area. After calling to set up an estimate, I am happy to report that the office staff was friendly and knowledgeable. After a few general questions about the work I needed, they set me up with an estimate. I was given a time for the estimate, and they were on time and very professional. I was impressed by how they conducted themselves and their efficiency in the process thus far. This is what made me choose them for our floor work. There was a lot of work in my home, and it was all done quickly and efficiently. The work was a whole house job and I could not be happier with the end result. I had them match all of the new flooring to my existing hardwood stairs. It was an amazing match! It looks like the original. In fact, they made such an impression on me that I called them back to build a threshold to an addition we had built. The contractor seemed to be having problems finding someone to make one since it wasn't a standard piece. M&M floors made it and installed it for us in a day with amazing results! We have had M & M floors install new hardwoods in our last two homes. Both houses had existing hardwoods which they feathered in flawlessly. Sanded down and stained everything to our liking. Looked like one complete brand new floor. 3 coats of poly has held up great against our dogs. They also installed carpet in a few rooms and a staircase runner, both look amazing. Their attention to detail and craftsmanship is outstanding. The staff is very helpful and accommodating. The installation crew showed up early and knocked out the work on time. The workers really cared about the details; I was pleasantly surprised by some of the small things they brought to my attention. Now that the job is done, I get lots of compliments on my house's new look. M&M Floors is fantastic! The quality of their work is exceptional and their staff are very professional. They work within their estimated time, sometimes finishing sooner than estimated. I had my hardwood floors refinished and they are beautiful and so far holding up to the three dogs in the house. The finish detail of the trim was great. They also replaced the flooring in my kitchen with laminate and it looks great. I had forgotten to move a few things and they took care of everything, moving things carefully. I don't know how they got under some places to put the floor in, but they did and it looks great. I would recommend M&M floors to anyone. read more

M&M did refinishing of the whole condo and they were extremely professional and great with detail. When they finish staining the color came up lighter than what we wanted.. but they quickly offered a credit or have them re done. I had my floors refinished by another company who left me with hairy bumpy floors. I had heard great things about M and M so we called them to redo them. They charged much more than most $5000, but thought they were top of the line so we were willing to pay. I ended up with floors that are smooth and look pretty good, but they have more hairs stuck in them than before plus multiple sanding marks. I've found 10 hairs so far through out my house, it's really gross. And now that I know they are there it's all I can see. I called and had them come and look at then and all they said was the floors look good, sometimes a few hair just get stuck we can't keep everything off of them. He says they will eventually rub off. I think that 10 is a little more than a few. So apparently this is the work that they are proud of. I am now stuck with a hairy floor that can't be fixed even if I was willing to pay someone else because the wood is too thin to sand again. I only pro I can say is that everyone was very nice there, they just do sloppy work. read more

We hired M&M Floors to refinish the ~900 sqft of oak floors in our 60 y/o home and they did a fantastic job. We couldn't be happier. Their price was in line with other estimates, but I was convinced to work with them based on the attention to detail I saw during the estimate, which was consistent with the service they provided. The age of our home resulted in some waves in the floors in one room, which they did an amazing job of sanding out. They also took time an patience as we tried to match the stain seen in a few pictures online. The resulting finish is spot on and I can't tell you how good the floors look and what a great job they did. I'm a stickler for the details and it was clearly apparent that the crew from M&M Floors paid attention to those details. We hope to redo another section of floor in the future and will be contacting M&M Floors without a doubt or second thought. Can't say enough good things about our experience. I do not recommend M&M. Terrible customer service and poor workmanship. M&M installed a pricey Brazilian Cherry herringbone pattern floor at our home approximately four years ago and now the boards are popping up everywhere because they did install them properly (according to two other flooring companies). We had a few concerns about their lack of professionalism during the initial installation, but ultimately, the job was completed. Unfortunately, a few years later, we have a mess on our hands. We are literally tripping on boards. We've had hardwood floors throughout our home for 20 years and haven't had problems with them at all. We called M&M to see what they thought about the issue and we were told (in late April) by the owner's assistant that he "doesn't want to look at the floors until August" (although he would not speak to us directly to explain his reasoning). The owner is either not informed by his assistant, or he is simply too aloof to call his customers. We have since had two other flooring expert companies come to look at the floors and they told us the floors were not installed properly from the beginning and essentially need to be torn out! We are sick over this. Don't make the mistake of using this company. read more
