Passing through Columbia for business, used my yelp app, typed in Foodie. A few places popped up and M Grill caught my eye due to the great reviews and pics. Had the surf n turf, Red Dragon and spicy Tuna along with side of edamame. Everything was delicious and well presented. Packed with lots of flavor and great technique. Hands down one of my favorite sushi experiences outside of UMI in Atlanta. Loved the openness of the space and the beautiful open kitchen

It's rare that I give a glowy review. Four stars! If you love to try fresh and innovative sushi combinations, come here. Also, the deals are amazing at happy hour, drinks, apps and sushi deals. If I lived here in town id be a regular. Lovely ambiance perfect for an intimate date night or ladies night out. I especially loved the fruit sushi with cream cheese and avocado.

I discovered this new location last night on Yelp - the pics and menu were so enticing that I had to go today! We got there around 11:50am for lunch, parking was super convenient (metered parking in front of the main entrance and free 2-hr parking along Lady St near the other entrance). The decor was very modern clean Asian - I loved it. I also liked the fact that the cooks prepared the food virtually "in" the dining area - behind a half glass partition (I feel it not only allows the customers to see the presentation and preparation of the dishes - it also allows us to see the cleanliness of where our food is coming from). I ordered the M Grille salad to start - it only had a few ingredients, I wanted something light and healthy to start with - I didn't care too much for the yuzu dressing, but the salad was very pretty to look at. For my entree I got the Surf & Turf roll - which is described on the menu as... crab salad tempura inside, pickled beet, soy braised beef on top, eel sauce, microgreens. The tempura was on the outside of the roll, the soy braised beef was basically jerky, I don't know if that was intentional or what (I thought the purpose of braising was to make the meat tender), and there were no microgreens - unfortunately it was not enjoyable at all. We've been to all of her other restaurants and thoroughly enjoy everyyyyything, everytime. (multiple Miyos locations, M Vista, M Fresh). I was hoping to add M Grille to the list, but I guess I'll have to stick with the old reliables.

The Vista is a downtown gem filled with restaurants, shopping, hotels, museums and much more for locals and tourists from far and near. M Grille should consider changing their name or slogan M Good. As a frequent home away from home guest during their lunch and happy hour this place has become one of my favorite spots in Soda City. Their menu offers a variety of organic ingredients, drink selections and exquisite decor fit for lounging, group meetings, and large parties. They are open to reservations online through OpenTable and did a great job taking care of my large party for a going away and birthday dinner of 12-15 guests. Pricing on average about $10-$30 with street parking at a meter or garage parking in the Vista area. Exceptional service, and manager who checks in on your experience while valuing your feedback, and an intimate atmosphere, sets the stage for a delightful space to dine and unwind that I can never pass up. My favorite menu items are the rock tempura shrimp, jumbo shrimp Thai basil, strawberry honey roll, salmon berry roll and the green tea cheesecake. My least favorite to date was the mango roll. Due to the ripeness of the mango, married with the eel inside caused the roll to fall apart at a squeeze of the chopsticks. Nonetheless, they use fresh ingredients.

I love the ambience- chic, modern, and sophisticated. I like that it's not too loud, so I was able to enjoy conversations with everyone at the table. The service was friendly. I liked that the menu had a wide variety of options. I'm vegan but the rest of my part was not and we were all able to find something to suit our tastes. I also liked that there were a variety of cocktails, wines and beers. This would be a good venue for a girls night out or a birthday celebration. The food is moderately priced, so you can enjoy a full 5 course meal with alcohol and not break the bank. Best of all, everything on the menu is fresh and healthy and presented beautifully on the plate.

Always a sweet ending to a magical dinner! Sorry, was too busy eating to photograph the foods

Since we were in the Columbia area, we had to come back! The service here is top-notch, and ALL high end restaurants should take note. Servers and managers are always standing around in the hallway practically waiting to help you, are there to start conversation and make you enjoy your experience. Our waitress constantly came around to check on us. Great work! In Charleston, we got the prime rib and loved it. So, as a result, we got the prime rib again AND loved it again! It was just like how we remembered it; tender and great flavor. Their sides come in large portions (shareable). They do have great mac-and-cheese. It kind of gives us like a Spanish vibe, probably because it consists of a certain spice or Jalapeños (my guess), but that does not make it spicy! All it does is adds complexity to the flavor. For dessert, we shared the cookie skillet. It comes with ice cream on top with chocolate syrup and caramel on the side. Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside.. that's how we like it!! I highly recommend you give Halls Chophouse a try. You will not be disappointed!

The problem with the coffee was the cream. It should probably be served around room temperature. Because the creamer was so cold several of our party had to ask for frequent warm-ups. Our server, Kristen, was very personable, pleasant and accommodating. A couple of us ordered Bellini's and mimosas. My Bellini was just OK. My standards are high, since I've had them in Venice, Italy. The Hall's Bellini was not very tasty and on the watery side. My wife tried to order the sweet potato pancakes, but they were out. So she was disappointed, and ended up with the lavender scented brioche French toast. She thought it was OK but was seeking a stronger flavor. I ordered the biscuits and sausage gravy. I don't order this very often, but there was a good portion of sausage and the flavor of the sausage was enjoyable without being too salty. Our daughter ordered crab cake Eggs Benedict which features a creole sauce. She enjoyed it, but the temperature of the dish could have been hotter. Our niece's daughter had the farmers omelette with the apple sage sausage. The apple-sage sausages were excellent (I got to sample one) and a very good deal. The ambience of Halls is always great. The service is usually quite good and the food is usually excellent. This is our second brunch at Halls and I'll have to say that our first brunch experience was a little bit better for the reasons noted above. I still rate it the best brunch in town.

It delivered on smokiness to the point of entertaining me too! My glass of rose was great, a normal choice for me. The gumbo had excellent flavor and the small whole bird on top was such an interesting presentation. The crispy skin had great flavor as did the chicken itself, complemented the creole flavor of the gumbo perfectly. I hate to admit that the tomato broth, dare I say gravy, kind of stole the flavor show. We both loved it. I nearly forgot I had grilled bread to accompany it as I was spooning up mussels and the delightfully flavorful tomato broth. Service was totally on point until the very end, when getting our check was a bit slow. We had a new server respond to our rescue though, and they did discount our check a bit, which was more than we were expecting. The seating arrangement for us ended up being at a communal long dining table, not a private booth. It wasn't our first date, and we loved being in the middle of the room and watching all of the dishes and drinks flow by. The view of the booth tables by the window would also make for a great view when the street is busy with ample people watching. Great experience, would definitely recommend. Take note, they do not take reservations so either come early or allow time to wait.

When I walked in, I was amazed at what I saw inside, as it definitely was not what I was expecting (and I mean that in a good way!). I loved how dimly lit it was inside, which was complemented by miniature lights that were strung from the ceiling. Speaking of the aforementioned change of pace, I also appreciated how there were no TVs inside, which created an intimate atmosphere that focused more on conversing with your friends than watching whatever may have been on TV. Finally, as someone who always pays attention to a restaurant's artwork... I absolutely LOVED the artwork that was on display at Goat's. They had so many cool pieces of eclectic artwork, that you could almost consider it as much a small art museum as a restaurant. My favorite art piece is kind of hard to describe, but I guess you could say that it was of a God-like man in a suit controlling somebody who was playing golf. (I know, it's hard to describe, but like I said, it's eclectic.) My one (1) downside to Goat's, and the only thing keeping it from a five-star review, is that the bartender and servers were all pretty rude and arrogant. This is speculation, but maybe Goat's is one of those places that considers itself a "regulars" bar, and isn't very nice to people who aren't regular customers, but the three (3) employees I interacted with weren't all that inviting. All in all, Goat's was a great experience, and if it were an option, I'd probably give it something like 4.5 or 4.8 stars if I could. If the servers were a little less full of themselves, or maybe just in a better mood, I'd consider it a five-star experience. Nevertheless, Goat's was a great experience, I'll definitely be back, and I'd recommend that anybody stop in if they're looking for a unique experience in Five Points!

The place is very well air conditioned, and the space is very intentional. Visiting from out of state the waitress seemed a bit shy/new but curious about Wisconsin she warmed up a little bit. It's really cool that you can see the chefs in their element behind a glass wall while you wait. The silverware, or should I say Goldwear was beautiful. I started out with the All American Spritz- it was good but nothing extraordinary. However when I tried the pistachio martini, I was in disbelief! I was skeptical to order it as I've never even heard of one before and was unsure how pistachio would translate into a martini. It was creamy and somehow savory and sweet at the same time, the alcohol taste was nonexistent. And the rim was coated in pistachio crumbs. Both the drinks presentation was beautiful. I personally ordered the bbq chicken sandwhich, with mac and cheese instead of fries for the side. The sandwich was smoky, I could not stop eating it! If anyone was wondering what so special about the mac and cheese, it's the name of the noodles. And yes, the waitress will sound it out with you lol! The Mac and cheese wasn't creamy, and I found it a bit bland unfortunately. There was no order the same in the group I came with. The truffle fries were on the thinner crispier side, neat that there were different color of potatoes used. The duck wings came out like their very own presentation. I tried the alligator bites, that were served with 2 sauces, I thought there were kind of chewy , and weird enough I guess I have a preference with how my alligator is served since having tried some at the Wisco State fair. I love that the menu feels curated, you know what you're there for and it's not overwhelming to pick from the options of something new. The bathroom was very cute too! And the bar area was lit up, a cool atmosphere.

Bison, elk, boar, rabbit. These are proteins you don't see on most menus. The restaurant leans into a woodland theme with greenery hanging throughout the space. It borders on a bit much, but the open kitchen visible from the dining room grounds the whole experience and adds a nice touch of theater. The seating was comfortable and well spaced, perfect for a family dinner where you actually want to hear each other talk. Our server was outstanding, easily 5 out of 5. She knew the menu cold, offered thoughtful recommendations, and struck that ideal balance of attentive without being intrusive. She made the evening better. The drinks were mostly a win. Two cocktails were excellent, creative and well balanced. A third was over iced and fell flat. Minor miss, but worth noting. The food is where The Hollow really shines. The charcuterie board was a fantastic start, featuring a well curated spread of wild game meats, quality cheeses, fig, and mustard. The mains delivered across the board: salmon, elk, and bison all came out beautifully with great flavor and generous portions. The sides deserved their own applause, which isn't something I say often. The dessert menu was the one soft spot. Nothing grabbed our attention, so we ended up heading across the street to Kaminsky's for something sweet. For a kitchen that puts this much care into everything else, the dessert offerings felt like an afterthought. A couple of notes on the bill to be aware of: we were charged a few dollars for swapping a vegetable side. There was a 3% credit card surcharge that caught us off guard. When you're out with the family and the tab runs into the hundreds $, most folks are paying with a card. That's a fee I'd want to know about upfront. On the menu, from the server, somewhere visible before the check arrives. The bottom line: The Hollow is a creative, well executed restaurant with standout food and excellent service. If you're in Columbia, it's well worth a reservation.

I forgot his name but he served us on the patio. The weather was actually perfect yesterday, sunny not too hot, fans were going so you could feel the breeze. We got the seafood trio as an appetizer and everything was well done. The shrimp cocktail was nicely seasoned. I really liked that instead of just having plain shrimp. The fried oysters were nice but I wish I had known about the pineapple on top because I would have requested it not on there, it made the breading a little soggy. But nonetheless the flavor was still good and oysters were fresh. My bf loved the cucumber kimchi. We also enjoyed the crab cake. I would have preferred a little bit crisper outside but the flavor was really good. For dinner I got the fish du jour which was a grilled triple tail (I believe he said). It was cooked perfectly but did not have a lot of flavor. I assumed they didn't want to over power the fish because I had it with crispy brussel sprouts which were salty and a spinach and corn risotto which was amazing. Everything paired well together. My bf got the lamb rack and it was the perfect medium rare. For dessert if you have creme brulee on your menu I'm getting it ! It's my favorite dessert. The custard was a little undercooked because it was a bit runny but the flavor was amazing. You could see the little pieces of vanilla bean. And the sugar on top was thick so it was a lot sweeter than most creme brûlées I've had. I'd give it an 8/10. My bf got the strawberry hand pie (I think it was) and he doesn't like sweets too much but he said it was good and the ice cream wasn't too sweet. The pastry looked delicious. They gave us complimentary champagne for my birthday and it was so good. It tasted like my favorite Chandon spritz. So it really was a perfect way to end the night. Overall it was a 9/10 experience and I'd love to come.
