    Rainbow roll
    Tomas A.

We were driving home from Sacramento and looking for some food. Of all the options, sushi sounded the best. M Sushi is only about 5 min off the freeway entrance. Not too bad. As we are walking up, I start to wonder about the town we are in. How is my mixed nationality family going to be received? I forget what city it was, but I remember once making a quick stop off the 99 for a break, and feeling like we stood out like sore thumbs. Fortunately that wasn't our experience today. We walk in and we are warmly greeted. The restaurant is fairly busy, so we get seated way in the back....near the restroom. We start looking over the menu, making our drink orders, and my wife asks if I smell something? I don't, but my son, who is sitting closer to the restrooms says, he does. After we make our orders, my wife can't take it anymore and gets up and asks to be seated at another table. A couple of tables have cleared, so we get seated closer to the center. After which, my son says that he was starting to feel sick at our old seats. Had we not moved, I think they both would have been miserable. From here on out, it's just good times. The food arrives. My wife and I got bento boxes. Katsu chicken for me, sesame chicken for her. The kids all get sushi the rainbow roll, all in one (I believe), and a hand roll. My son would later say that he thought the hand roll was bigger and that he wish he would have gotten something else, even though in the pictures, it was clearly smaller than the other rolls. While I'm on the subject. The way the rolls looked in the pictures, they look small, because they are paired into 4 sections. Everybody missed the fact that each section was cut in half, giving you 8 pieces. If you're not looking at the detail, it just looks like 4 pieces. In the end, I think the smallest roll we got was 9 slices. The hand roll, though, was probably comparable to 6 sushi slices. But, with the 2 bento boxes, we had plenty of food. I also came to learn that not all katsu sauces are the same. Back home, I've only ever had Maui katsu sauce. At M Bitro, I learned what Japanese katsu sauce is supposed to taste like, and I gotta say, I'm not a fan. I was so disappointed with the strong taste of ketchup that my first thought was, this isn't katsu sauce. What I'm familiar with is sweeter. Well, after a quick Google search of katsu sauce, it turns out, the main ingredient is......ketchup! Yeah, nobody in the family liked it. I'm also not going to knock M Sushi for being authentic. Unless somebody forgot to add the sugar.... Yeah, I can't say for sure. To be continued for sure. In summary, great food, good time. 2 more hours on the road before we got home. Only one real complain that had us changing seats. Easy fix

M sushi bistro is our go to sushi spot ever since we moved to Lodi! I love the ambiance of this place and their food is soooo yummy. Service is usually pretty good unless they're busy! The workers there are all very sweet and nice. My favorite thing to order is the sashimi moriswase which comes with 15 pieces of fish that are the chef's choice. I LOOOVEEEE the blue fin tuna. It just melts in your mouth. The smoky Peyton roll is also delicious. My only complaint is I wish they were open every day (they're closed Monday & Tuesday)

M Sushi continues to be one of my favorite spots for sushi in the Central Valley. Prices have definitely gone up over the years, but that's expected with the current economy. Even so, the quality is still there. The fish is fresh, the presentation is beautiful, and overall, the food is consistently good and I'm satisfied every visit, even when doing take out. I do hope they expand someday because the restaurant itself is pretty small and gets very busy. Minh, the owner, is there every day and clearly takes a lot of pride in the work and care that goes into curating each dish. Here are a few of our favorites: Hamachi Crudo 5/5 Roll Over Lobster 5/5 Crispy Brussel Sprouts 5/5 Salmon Skin Trio Handroll 5/5: one of my favorites Preggo Roll 4/5 - my kids love this lol Smokey Peyton 5/5: my personal favorite To Die For 5/5 Inferno Roll 4/5 Killer Bri 4/5 The M 5/5 - this is the most expensive roll on their menu but it's good. We've also had their nigiri and sashimi, and both have always been excellent. They also have omakase which I still have yet to experience. Overall, the dishes here are worth it and if you deep pockets, you can easily splurge.

WATCH OUT THAT THERE IS ANOTHER SUSHI PLACE ACROSS THE STREET (I thought it was a recent name change but it's a different restaurant with a subpar rating). FOOD: the food is HECKA expensive and in my opinion, totally not worth the price tag. For example, the nigiri, sashimi, chirashi combo is $50 and adding more pieces instantly increases the cost to $100. There aren't any special expensive pieces included. They just make it look fancy with microgreens and orchid petals. The microgreens are yellowing and brown. SALAD AND MISO SOUP ARE INCLUDED. Salad has a bunch of browning bits which is SUPER GROSS (it's your typical salad mix from Costco) but also includes halved grape tomatoes and sliced radishes. The dressing is good but is heavily cream based. Take out included utensils but both were strangely unwrapped (particularly the chopsticks). Furthermore, strange that they provide utensils but no dish tray for the shoyu and wasabi... I guess they assume you'll use the soup container? ***NO WASABI included in the nigiri themselves*** SERVICE is bordering on rude. Literally wanted me to order single nigiri's and was like oh yeah we do have combos and they could not find it on the menu (uuuuhh). Couldn't hear me (it's freezing). Did offer water. AMBIANCE is casual dining but I would not recommend group dining since they charge an instant 20% for more than 6 individuals even if you are not eating. Modern Japanese American decor. Strange how they block off areas. Located in downtown Lodi with multiple street parking that is free for 90 minutes every day from 9am to 5pm except for Sundays and holidays. 20% tip for parties greater than 6 (even if not everyone is dining). 3.84% extra charge if you use a credit card... hashtag major lame. Website is fairly accurate regarding pricing and policies. Need I say more? Not coming back in a million years.

M Sushi never fails to be the yummiest sushi restaurant ever! We usually get the To Die for, Hudson Delight, and Smokey Peyton! The service was very quick and the vibes alone are amazing. Will definitely go back!

AMAZING FOOD, AMAZING SERVICE. Perfect place to take a date or a small group of friends that love food.

Foodie Find: M. Sushi Bistro - Lodi, CA Stopped in at M. Sushi Bistro, a hidden sushi gem in Lodi, California, and I'm still thinking about it! I ordered my food to go after a long ride from Southern California. The decor was nice and red and a lot of natural lighting. The customer service was great and you could view your food being made right in front of you with a beautiful open kitchen concept. It was very business but this did not stop them from taking your time with you. I had their M Speciality Roll, and wow, the flavors were perfectly balanced! It's made with spicy tuna, avocado, and cucumber, topped with seared salmon, crispy onions, green onions, eel sauce, and spicy mayo. Every bite was rich, layered, and absolutely delicious. I also tried their halibut and albacore nigiri, and both were incredibly tender, buttery, and packed with flavor. So fresh, they practically melted in my mouth. Only regret? That they're not in Southern California, where I'm from! If you ever find yourself near Lodi, make M. Sushi Bistro a must stop. Your taste buds will thank you.

Hey there Party People The restaurant is in a great location with easy parking. The decor is simple and very cozy. We had a large group of eight sometimes that can present a challenge with the arrival of the food. The wait staff did a fantastic job of pacing the food do we went seamlessly from appetizers to entrees. It was a wonderful day with family celebrating and the food just added to the joy. Weather you get sushi or noodles or a bento box of teriyaki or some fabulous veggie dish you will be wanting more. If you are in the area and you don't stop here then you have missed a little slice of heaven on earth. If you don't like fish they still have you covered with great options, I should know....i hate fish Be kind to one another

Very good sushi and bento boxes here. The servers are very professional and gave us as much time and information as we needed to make our order, it was very appreciated. The ambiance is very calming and welcoming. It was also very clean there. I'll definitely be coming back next time I'm in Lodi.

Fantastic as always! Maybe more so today! Our server Joe was super knowledgeable, knew the menu and drinks inside out, and gave fantastic recommendations! He checked in on us at perfect times too. Great attitude and overall excellent dining experience. This place is always popular and busy for good reason. This month they have some limited edition special fish. I got Inada (young yellowtail) plus omakase-- see the photos and enjoy the beautiful sushi work of art !

We can usually depend on it being busy as they offer a small dining area with limited tables outside, so when we do walk in we do so prepared. They do have a reservation system but to my knowledge we have not used it. We just walk up and greet the staff person at the door to check in, and they tell us what the wait is like. If it's over a half hour we usually kill time in Raley's. It's usually not longer than a 20 minute wait. If you are a large party, things might get cramped, but I've seen them pull it off with gusto. We've never had a party larger than four and it's been great. I really like the folks who work here. And the food is great too. They have a few tvs and a little sushi bar at the back, and the noise level is about average depending on how many children are dining with their families. Komachi has a dedicated vegetarian menu and I've tried most of the things on it. I love that they have marinated shiitake rolls, my fave of the standard veggie sushi innards. Yummy! My favorite rolls on the menu are the Garden Roll (steamed asparagus, avocado, cucumber, kanpyo, and shiitake), Shittake Maki, and the Rich Jumbo Roll (fried asparagus, fried onion, avocado, cream cheese, and cucumber). Appetizers I have tried and enjoyed very much include the Agedashi tofu, fried brussels sprouts (I have to remember to have the fish flake removed from this dish though), and of course, wakame (seaweed salad). They do have ramen, donburi, bento boxes, teppanyaki (the tofu one I look forward to trying soon!) and salads as well if you're not in the sushi mood. I like their seasonal drink menu, featuring wine, soju, and beer. Komachi is also reasonably priced. Yeah, pretty much everything I'm looking for when me and my boo are craving sushi. Vegan Corner: several items can be made vegan upon request, but there is not a dedicated menu. Bathroom Report: noisy pipes will not hurt you, at least it's smelling fresh right?

We were seated immediately which was nice and the place was bustling. The server checked on us periodically in a timely manner throughout the dinner. My friend and I both ordered the sashimi-nigiri combo and though we got the sides of salad and miso soup right away, the actual sushi took quite a while to arrive. The miso soup was also a bit too salty and grainy for my liking. My friend and I were deep into our conversation but the lengthy time it took a while just to bring out our one orders each became noticeable enough for us to wonder where it was. My big takeaway from our experience with the Nigiri and Sashimi: not prime quality. I have been to other sushi places for nigiri and have had better quality and tasting fish elsewhere. This was kind of bland and sad. I want to come back to Komachi and give it an honest shot with the other items on the menu, but my usual favorites (sashimi and nigiri) did not impress me at all... I hope I can return to update this review with better things to say..

So we headed in for dinner a couple nights ago and, unfortunately, it was worse than our smooshed Uber Eats delivery order. I don't want to bash any small businesses but there were so many things that went wrong. The salmon on the lion king roll was noticeably stinky fishy. I eat sake sashimi at least 3 or 4 times a month, it's my favorite fish and it shouldn't be "fishy" at all unless it's on its way to going bad. This was the biggest reason for deciding to leave this review instead of letting it go. Someone could get sick. The best roll was the warrior's roll, and I'm not very big on the texture of unagi but it was really good. My step little loved her chicken teriyaki which I also tried and agreed. The chicken thighs were moist and delicious but could have done without being completely drowned in thickk teriyaki. The miso soup was fine but had wonton strips in it which I'd never seen before. And lastly, the stuffed mushrooms were delicious, but they are the size of a quarter and cost $11.95 for 4 teeny tiny mushrooms. Our server was trying really hard but it was obvious he hadn't had much training. He seemed overwhelmed and was definitely struggling and that feeling just got worse and worse through the meal. Everything we ordered came out randomly and with no organization. We ordered a large Kirin after verifying with him that they had bottled Kirin. They did not have it bottled and he brought us a draft and when we asked about the bottle he was apologetic but said "he already poured it..." So we felt like we had to take the draft. It spilled all over the table while I tried to pour it into two glasses because we were sharing. The check took a solid 20+ minutes after we ate and at that point I started getting irritated. Our server walked past us at least 10 times and I'm pretty sure he forgot but we couldn't get his attention. When he brought it over, he cleared our plates to box up all of the sushi we'd barely touched and he accidentally spilled soda on one of our rolls. Honestly, I wasn't even mad at the kid, it's not his fault he wasn't trained. The restaurant needs to work on whatever is making the salmon fishy and bring in someone to train their front of house staff. We unfortunately will not be returning, probably ever.

We were the only customers and got there around 6:30. My only critique is that there were a lot of employees and we were the only patrons, yet our two servers did seem distracted and forgot a couple of things throughout the meal. I'm giving grace for that because it was a very slow night and they were probably just chit chatting in the back. I would've had no issue giving this 5 stars if it wasn't for that one small thing. Service otherwise was very friendly and quick The food was fantastic! As a Japanese American who's been eating sushi since I was in the womb, I have to disagree with the yelper who recently said the rolls are too small and too expensive. The rolls we ordered were huge and the fish was very fresh and on par with M sushi and Komachi. Is it a luxurious loungy city style vibe? No. But the food is great and the prices are fair imo for the extremely fresh and delicious fish. We ordered two bowls of miso, salmon tataki roll (I only wished for more onions!), the spicy crunchy scallop roll (my new favorite roll in Lodi), snow crab CA roll, and I think the last one was a dragon roll with unagi. They were all great. We were def pleasantly surprised by Yume and will absolutely be coming back.

On the way back home from the Bay Area and decided to stop by for ramen at 88 Bao Bao. First time…read morevisiting 88 Bao Bao so I was excited to check out this place. And it did not disappoint! This spot is located in a shopping plaza and there are plenty of parking. Inside is well organized and clean with plenty of dining tables and cool wall decors. There is a wall-mounted TV displaying the culture. Once inside, I was greeted and welcomed to pick any open table. There is a table-top digital touch pad which displays the full menu and browse through to select items to order including drinks except for water which can be requested from the server. Many different selections for ramen flavor and dim sum!! Placed an order the following: ***Wonton ramen with bok choy and egg, mild spiciness $15.99 - 5/5 ***Shrimp and pork shaomai $13.95 - 5/5 ***Green tea (cold) $3 - 4/5 The server also provided some water as requested. The wonton ramen was sooo good and delicious! And I love bok choy anytime! The shrimp and pork shaomai was very savory and tasty! The chili sauce could be a bit more spicy but it was still good! The green tea cold drink was very refreshing and soothing, especially on a hot day. Staff are very friendly and courteous. Great customer service and very respectful. Will be back again when in the area. I highly recommend!

Oooh things have changed since I last came here. They have tablets at table side to place your…read moreorder now. Which is nice. I think they should give you an option to pay at the tablet too though, instead of going to the front counter. I imagine the lineup can still get long if it is busy. But it worked out for us on the day that my friend and I came. It did not take long after we placed our order for each of the items to come out. I appreciated that they brought the sweet item last as our "dessert". I am excited that 88Bao Bao has expanded their menu options too! For example, the cute panda custard bun is something I haven't tried before. It's not as cute as the pictures though, just keep in mind hahah. I have to say, though, a lot of the prices have gone up since the last time I was here; and between two people who had ordered about four or five dishes, two fruit drinks, with taxes and tip it up to $95! I think this place does well for their dumplings and xiao long bao. The wonton chili oil wasn't as flavorful or spicy as I am used to at other Chinese restaurants. For the small space, they certainly use it well with several tables available. They keep the dining area and the bathroom relatively clean as well. The restaurant was 3/4 full when we were there, but still not too noisy that you couldn't have conversations. The TV plays random YouTube music videos. Overall, a decent experience. I like that they had expanded their menu options and provide a tablet to order at the tables. I just hope that they can maintain the quality of their many items. It has gotten a little more expensive, understandably, so I don't imagine coming back too often. I always love their guava fruit drink though so I do recommend that.

I'm simple, but the chicken teriyaki was amazing...salad and rice were the perfect addition. My wife's katsu chicken was good, needed sauce but wasn't bad at all. The garlic edamame was the best part of the dinner...so much flavor. Service was nice, place was clean and organized, definitely will come back again now that we have a reason to come to Spanish.

This restaurant is the best all-u-can-eat Japanese cuisine BUFFET in town. The waiters and waitresses are all very good at providing the best customer service support by standing by the customer's dining table the entire dining experience with the customer. I spent 2 hours eating here, and the waiter was standing by my table the entire 2 hour time. The waiter spent that much time talking and got to know me and got me familiar with the restaurant and the menu item top choices. The food is super good. Every sushi roll was made correctly and all of the variety of food tasted very satisfying. Besides Sashimi, for the best hot foods here, they have hot clay pot ramen, udon, and hot clay pot rice bowls with their delicious Japanese curry sauce and their delicious hot buttery infused garlic toppings. Unagi, Salmon, Tuna, Shrimp, Chicken, Pork, or Beef. They also have unlimited all u can eat buffet grilled Galbi rib steaks for dinner. I highly recommend this place; and I have returned to eat at this place more than seven times. The dinner experience is the most enjoyable. I really liked this place a lot. The interior space is clean and comfortable and beautifully decorated with Japanese Cherry Blossom Flowers, Oriental Lanterns, Asia Umbrellas, and Wooden Bamboo Soju screen room dividers.
