Scallop Nigiri
Christie S.

A co-worker and I were talking about our favorite Sushi places today and they recommended M Sushi. I have been meaning to try it and have heard good things from a few people. I could see how the location and vibe would seem a little "sketchy" to some. It's definitely not a pretentious LA style joint. But I personally prefer quality and experience over status and esthetics. There's lots of parking right out front. We walked in around 6:30 with no reservations. We were greeted and told we could sit anywhere. It is BYOB. There is a liquor store across the street and a gas station not too far away that you can stop at. We ordered a few things and it all came out quickly and was so good!!!! I don't know how I've never been here before and I was really glad we got to check it out. We'll definitely be back. Oyster shooters - 8/10 Hamachi Sashimi- 10/10 (very nice cuts, respect to the sushi chef) Hamachi Kama- 9/10 Negi Hama- 10/10 Marilyn Mon Roll 9/10 Miso Butterfish Nigiri 7/10 (I'm generally not a huge of butterfish, it was the bf's choice) Scallop Nigiri: 8/10

This is the 911 Roll....just the right amount of heat.

This is our go-to sushi place. The M is for Martin, the owner; a young and experienced sushi chef. His fish is always, always fresh and his creations are delicious. It's not easily seen from the road so once you find it move it to the top of your list..

Chefs choice!

It was amazing. Sushi was fresh, and butter soft. Recommend any of the bellies, all of the pieces were pretty thick. Very lowkey place, owners are nice, and they place some nice jazz! Casual place, went in shorts and a t-shirt, also BYOB!

Another M Sushi review because it's just so close to home! One of the only reasons I occasionally try other sushi spots is because M Sushi doesn't offer dinner plates, I really wish they had options like baked dynamite or unadon. But if you're simply craving sushi? This place is a solid go-to. Seriously fresh, affordable, and hits the spot every time!

Still love m sushi and glad it is open until 9pm. Miso soup perfectly flavored and we enjoyed the cilantro roll, rainbow, Caterpillar rolls as well as Spicy hamachi, spicy tuna and Salmon avocado Always will return

My husband and I decided to have dinner at M Sushi before attending a show at the MACC. Upon arrival, we noticed only two other parties dining, so we were seated promptly. The sushi was reasonably priced, of good quality, and the service was quick. The interior was a bit dark for my taste, but it didn't bother us much. We ordered the hamachi carpaccio, which we absolutely loved; it was well-balanced, and the jalapeños added a nice touch. I also tried the ankimo, which wasn't what I expected and would not order again, and their omakase. My husband wished they served alcohol or beer, but other than that, we had no complaints. If you're looking for a quick and pretty good spot for sushi in Wailuku, I would recommend it.

Got takeout. Have been wanting to try this little local spot for forever now! I wasn't wow'd by the sushi at all but it was still good! I would return when craving sushi again and not wanting to go far.

After searching for a good sushi restaurant on Maui, we discovered M Sushi. The variety of traditional sashimi, maki and nigiri are similar to other sushi restaurants, but they also have some unique rolls - some that don't have rice! The place is run by Chef Martin and his mom, who keep everyone happy with their efficient service. Food quality is good and fresh as you should expect from a place that specializes in sushi. No noodles or deep fried items are served here. The location was a bit hard to find, but well worth the effort! E would go there again.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars. Was a bit disappointed after eating here as it has such a high rating. I called ahead to try to get reservation but was told that they didn't take reservation. Luckily, we were able to get a table without any wait as walk-in. This is truly a hole in the wall located in a basement right next to the parking garage. The interior was dark and a bit dated. As there was only one waitress and one sushi chef, everything took a long time and required a lot of patience and waiting. As for the food, everything was ok but nothing to write home about. There's plenty of sushi restaurants on-par, if not better in the Bay Area. Thus, if you are a tourist with precious meal quotas, I'd recommend skipping this restaurant. Out of all the meals we had in Maui, this was our least favorite. Nothing was bad but very average.

Love coming here for a quick tasty sushi at a reasonable price! It's literally a hole in the wall. Everything is great. My Go to is the Cucumber special roll, baked salmon roll and the aloha roll. But don't get me wrong, EVERYTHING is great on the menu, especially the oyster shooters.

Highly recommend this place on Maui! So impressed at the sushi here! We were at home hungry but didn't want anything too heavy for dinner (since Thanksgiving just passed). Looked on Yelp and saw that they were open and decided to check it out on a whim. We called just in case it was super busy at around 8pm. She said there were seats, so we left the house right away! It wasn't too crowded at this time (8pm) on a Saturday, which we were grateful for. Parking is right outside of the restaurant in the "garage". Got seated right away. We ordered a bunch of stuff to share. Marilyn Mon Roll special roll (cute name I know!), seared tuna garlic roll, hamachi Kama, and omakase sushi. All of which were super good. The fish was fresh. The uni was probably the best uni I've ever tried! Yum! Not fishy. I definitely need to go back and try more things off the menu when I am hungry. :)

First time at M Sushi and wow... I am speechless. This hidden gem is tucked away in Wailuku on Lower Main Street. The restaurant is clean and the ambiance is very welcoming and cozy. My friend and I chose to sit at the sushi bar, but let me tell you... the counter space for this sushi bar was HUGE (pictured below). So much space! It was amazing. We had front row seats to watch our sushi being made and we had extra space for a comfortable eating situation. We ordered the sushi omakase and it came with 12 pieces for $50. $50 for omakase?! That is unheard of and M SUSHI delivered that. Usually omakase can range from $150-$300. The omakase was comprised of 12 different pieces of sushi and all were so flavorful, soft, fresh, and it truly melts in your mouth. Not only was the food amazing, but the service was even better. The chef and waitress were so welcoming and accommodating. Highly recommend M Sushi for your sushi needs! Especially Omakase

Amazing food, ambience, and experience! Every single dish we had was flavorful and presented well. We had the oyster shooters, otoro, butterfish, dragon and salmon rolls, hamachi with jalepeno slices, a non rice fresh fish burrito that was great with the accompany sauce. Also note it is byob which is great as well.

The line up!

Delicious sushi restaurant! Their rolls are huge. Tried the rainbow roll and it didn't disappoint. Atmosphere is very dark lit.

Food: We ordered the honey walnut shrimp, miso butterfish, garlic furikake fries, hamachi sashimi, garlic noodles, and crispy chicken. My favorite was the hamachi sashimi. What I enjoyed about this dish was the diced maui onion that offset the citrus from the ponzu. The flavors are light, and refreshing. The most disappointing was the crispy chicken. I thought it was too salty, but that's my preference and salt tolerance. The miso butterfish was also a great dish. The fish was buttery and flavored well. Not too saucy but the perfect amount of sauce. Service: Service is friendly, like most of the restaurants on Maui. The food was served in a timely manner. The ambiance is casual and felt like a bar restaurant. Overall, I'm not sure if I would return. After ordering 6-7 dishes, I wanted to be blown away by at least 4-5 of them, but that wasn't the case. Do yourself a service and try it out at least once if you are curious!

Wow! Wow! Wow! Umi…read moreSushi absolutely exceeded my expectations! I can't believe I waited this long to try it. The Ahi Katsu was next level -- perfectly crisp on the outside, tender and flavorful inside. The combination of their house-made aioli, katsu sauce, and unagi sauce was to die for. Every bite had the perfect balance of texture and richness. I also loved the Agedashi Eggplant. I'm usually not a big fan of bonita flakes or that smoky flavor profile, but they executed it beautifully -- light, balanced, and not overpowering at all. Total winner. On top of the amazing food, the service was fantastic and we even scored perfect parking, which always feels like a bonus. The open air dining room has several tables that can be put together for parties of 8. When we dined there it was very busy. I spoke to our young server who almost seemed overwhelmed with tables. Although she did a great job juggling her guests. She recited specials of the night and we ordered a fair amount of dishes for our large party. Umi combines modern local dishes with Japanese flavors, sashimi and sushi rolls. Several dishes utilize the deep fat fryer for textures and depth. We had a good variety: Agedashi Eggplant very crispy and flavorful spices and a dashi sauce that kept its crispness. Calamari Salad and Calamari had crispy tendrils of squid legs with a sauce that tied it together. Panko Breaded Pork Belly served with a thick Katsu Sauce was decadent. Fried Nabeta was entirely edible and very crispy. Large bed of rice, puréed ginger, and a delicate dashi-soy sauce. Truffle Edamame and Sushi rolls were good. Tuna bolognese with spaghetti in a light tomato sauce. Oyster shooters had a good proportion of spiciness with a raw oyster. The special Modern Sushi brought 5 Goteburg Sausage Rolls, an inverted Musubi with salty fried sausage encasing rice. Many folks bring coolers of beer or wine to complement the food. Service was efficient even though the restaurant was filled.
