She was arguing loudly with servers about rearranging the tables, it wasn't pleasant. I ordered the short stack banana pancakes and breakfast loco moco, and they both were good. The wife ordered the day's special prime rib sandwich. Initially they brought out the wrong sandwich - a french dip. They noticed and corrected it, but the $20 prime rib sandwich looks really sad, with a few tiny bits of chopped up beef with a little unknown kind of cheese, the meat doesn't taste like prime rib, and the fries were stale; the french dip actually looked much better. My wife barely ate half the plate. Maybe that's why a lot of the chefs said, don't order the daily specials; they are getting rid of old ingredients, LOL. We are locals living in Honolulu; we have come to Tasty Crust many times in the past when we visit Maui. This is the first time we didn't have a good experience. We grabbed a table and some menus as none were brought over after a few minutes of sitting. Our unsmiling server came over to ask if we wanted water but didn't ask if we wanted anything else to drink before taking off. She returned with the glasses and took our orders, still not very friendly. A local mom and pop restaurant that was recommended by a local-- we visited after a long beach day in wailea and the food did not disappoint! My favorite was the saimin, the broth was extremely flavorful and even the small size was pretty filling. The chicken katsu and local moco were also delicious as well, and pricing for each plate was under $15, which is hard to find in this economy ! They were delicious especially the banana pancake. That pancake was excellent! For takeout, we had one order of regular pancakes and the breaded teri beef (breaded teriyaki). The banana pancake is much better. The breaded teriyaki was different compared to other restaurant's breaded teriyaki. It was delicious but a slightly tough beef. The service was quick and friendly. The food was amazing! The kids had the fried rice with eggs while my husband had the loco moco (his go to brekky) and I had the Portuguese sausage and hot cakes. Great diner to enjoy some delicious food in a friendly atmosphere. Came here to enjoy some lunch with local family and really loved the tasty milkshakes. I know a lot of people come here for the pancakes (which I'm sure are delicious) but we grabbed burgers to complement are shakes with lunch. The burger is pretty filling alongside the shake so we ended up just splitting an order of the fries which was the right decision- perfect amount to share for 2. Absolutely terrible experience here. I ordered waffles plain. We waited about 20 minutes so one would think the food was being made by scratch. NO wrong assumption. The waffle-2 small squares were very cold. I suspect no one even warmed them in anyway. Not realizing they were extremely cold I applied butter in hopes that it would melt. After a few minutes the butter remained very solid. I decided to touch the waffle and it was COLD? Why? Does no one care? The restaurant was also not very busy. I called the server over and she just said oh no. After about 10-15 minutes later the waffle returned not much warmer. There was a steady stream of locals coming in for a late lunch or early dinner. The menu was extensive. They are known for their breakfast items of pancakes and Loco moco. Our burgers were good and were on very fresh buns and excellent French fries. Everything was served hot which is so appreciated. My burger was served plain with the exception of wilted lettuce.
