I was in the mood for a boba tea, so I checked out this place. I found the listing on Yelp of teas near me that were highly rated. This is in an unassuming strip mall that always has a bit of parking available, but it is a busy complex, and it's not a gigantic lot. The ordering system is all by kiosk, though I do think you can order by app or website, maybe. I ordered the Jasmine Green Cloud, which was jasmine iced tea with a matcha milk foam on top. They let you pick how sweet or iced you want it, and I opted for 25% sweet, which allowed me to taste the tea without it being overly sweet. All of the actual drink making is behind the curtain, then someone brings it out to you. I did feel like it took a bit of time though they did seem to be pretty busy! read more

The ambiance of the shop has a classy, minimalist feeling to it (with a lot of white), while the service comes in the form of a kiosk. There's a curtain where I believe the actual employees worked behind, as one of them would occasionally come out to deliver the drinks. I decided to get the Pinky Milky before taking some time to do some work at the location. The internet was working fine from what I could recall, and the drink itself was okay though a little sweet. Overall, everything was fine. It's not something too special, though I do remember the drink coming in one of those fairly tall and relatively sturdy cups (the ones that aren't super flimsy). I walked into the shop at about 2 PM and there's nobody in front. However, there are two tablets where you can place your order. I ordered a Osmanthus Oolong Tea with House Milk. It was a hot day and this drink went down well. In fact, it didn't last very long because I drank it quickly! The shop is super clean. I walked down to the back to find the bathroom and there was a sign saying to "see employee for code". So I'm thinking that there's nobody up there and no bell so I'm going to have to somehow grab somebody's attention. Luckily, the door wasn't locked so I was able to use the very clean facility. I lady came out from the back and called my name and she handed me my drink. She was courteous and had a smile. She then turned around and headed back as there was likely another order to be made. A very decent milk tea shop in this Hillsdale area. A very chic and very minimalistic store design. I got the Chatramue Thai Tea. Apparently Chatramue is the original Thai Tea brand. It's interesting though because I don't see anyone else marketing their Thai Teas as Chatramue's except this place. Overall I thought it was okay. I ordered mine 25% sweet with regular ice and that sweetness level was perfect for me - not too sweet! My sister ordered the choco slush which she thought was good but just a little too rich and decadent for her. It's really more of a dessert than a drink. Also make sure you mix it a little bit before drinking because I tried a sip of hers and got straight chocolate syrup (unless that's what you want haha). Their menu has so many yummy sounding drinks. I decided to go with the white peach milk tea. I ordered it half sweet and less ice cream with caramel boba. While it was very good, I did not taste any peach flavor. My son said he tasted it a little bit. I'm not sure if maybe they use a peach syrup and used less because I ordered it half sweet or if it's just a very mild taste in the brewed tea. The boba was perfectly cooked. My friend and I were looking for a new milk tea shop to try out and picked this one as it was close to her house and looked promising. Inside is on the smaller side - there are some bar stools near the front of the shop and a few tables/chairs in the lobby area. It has a nice, relaxing atmosphere and I could imagine hanging out with some friends/family or date on a nice day out. Ordering is done at the kiosk with staff preparing drinks behind the curtains inside the kitchen area. They offer a good variety of drinks - teas/milk teas, matcha series, coffee/espresso and some specialty drinks. M Teashop also offers milk substitution, toppings/foam and customization of sugar/ice. After looking through the menu - we both decided to try the same thing - the brown sugar milk tea. I ordered mine with boba, while my friend did not. After waiting a few minutes, the staff (owner?) came out and informed us that the boba would take another 10-15 minutes and asked if I wanted to wait or get some other topping instead. I opted for the lychee jelly and our drinks came out a few minutes later. It was delicious! I enjoyed the flavor and lychee jelly is always a nice addition. Since it was a nice day out and the shop was quiet, we sat there and had a nice time catching up for a bit. The staff came back out and since she noticed we were still there - asked if I wanted my boba now. I laughed, thanked her and said I'll have to try it next time since I already had the lychee jelly. I thought that was very nice of her! A few weeks later, I went back and ordered the brown milk tea again - this time with the boba. Happy a new boba shop opened up in the area! The ordering system is done all via kiosk/iPads and the menu is well rounded and less complicated than other shops. We got the choco slush (yum!) and the Thai tea tornado (was able to adjust sweetness which is not always the case with Thai tea). Both were really good but quite pricey (around $7 without any toppings). The inside seating area is more spacious than you would think and parking is easy with a shared lot. The only qualm I have about this place which knocked off a star is that they took quite a while to have our drinks ready - I'm used to many other boba shops, working a lot quicker. I got the Matcha Tornado and the Salted Cheese Viet Coffee which I saved in the fridge for the next morning for work. The Matcha Tornado was SO good! Idk why but I was craving a matcha brûlée type drink and this came up on the search as THE place to get it besides Izumi. The Salted Cheese Viet Coffee was also super good and also is good in the fridge until the next morning! I am a big fan of matcha and I've tried lots of matcha places in Bay Area. Came to M Tea Shop to try the Matcha Tornado -- I'd heard it was comparable to Izumi's famous Crème Brûlée Matcha, so I had high hopes. The drink was definitely good -- the matcha flavor was very very light, but refreshing overall. Texture-wise, it reminded me a lot of a green tea Frappuccino from Starbucks, just a bit more refined. Unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to the hype for me. While the Matcha Tornado is a solid drink, it doesn't come close to the richness and decadence of Izumi's crème brûlée matcha. The shop itself is cute and service was quick, so no complaints there. Just know that if you're chasing that crème brûlée matcha magic, this might not quite scratch the itch. I love checking out new shops that pop out in town but there are also reasons why I stuck to going to the staples. You would think that nowadays shops who start any kind of business would do some sort of research as to why shops fail or what things make customer happy. I guess not for this shop. I saw that they made hot matcha lattes so I asked if they are able to make it hot for their brown sugar latte. The answer was no. So clearly not very flexible. So I Instead ordered matcha latte with less ice. Since they won't make it hot. Take note they also charge 25 cents more if you ask for no ice. When the drink came out; the whole drink was overflowing with ice like to the brim. I asked them if they could remove some of that ice and put more drink. Instead what they did is remove like half of the ice and they then serve me this. As you can tell even after removing some ice it still has quite a lot. If I just wanted to play games I would've gone to an arcade. These people really have the audacity to charge almost $7 for a drink and turn around and slap you with garbage service and product. In short instead of saving a first time customer; even after showing the manager; they apologized but clearly not willing to make it right. Well they lost money on this because I refunded it and lost a first time customer as well. I stay away from places that don't have common sense in customer service and don't value people's hard earned money. Go somewhere else! read more
