Nothing good to say about this place . Waitress was not knowledgeable and rude. We asked why the chicken parm wasn't breaded because we've never heard of that and she told us that they are a small restaurant and not a chain so they don't have time to bread anything?!?! She also told us that the deep fried raviolis we're made in house but we're served to us still frozen in the middle . Side sauce was steaming hot on top but cold below - clearly microwaved . What happened to this place? Although rarely visiting, I used to love going to Ma Raffa's. I must admit I hadn't been there in nearly ten years until my recent visit last night. Something has definitely changed. I should have known by the photos of plates of food, shot from directly overhead, on the back wall. Was I in an Italian restaurant or the Chinese place at the mall food court? I ordered my old favorite, the Chourico w/ cheese grinder and the person with me ordered Baked Ziti w/ Meat Sauce. How could you go wrong with either one? You'd be surprised. The grinder was a mystery to me. The crust on the bread was nice and toasted in a few areas but soft and mushy in most areas. I'm not really sure how that's even accomplished. Onto the Baked Ziti. Let's first imagine a nice Baked Ziti, al dente Ziti pasta mixed with a nice red meat sauce, all covered in browned bubbly cheese. Now flush that all down the toilet because that's not what you're getting at Ma Raffa's. Instead you get mushy, over cooked Ziti pasta on the bottom, some cheese over that and then some meat sauce thrown on top. I've had better Stouffer's frozen Baked Ziti. In fact, I may have to eat some of that Stouffer's frozen Baked Ziti to try and forget about this Ma Raffa's Baked Ziti. Oh, and I almost forgot about the best part. Before our meals arrived, we asked for some bread. Out came a steaming hot, butter coated.... wait for it.... hoagie roll. I did all I could to keep myself from laughing when it hit the table. And when I say "steaming hot", I mean exactly that. You couldn't even touch this thing w/o risk of burning your fingers. The kicker, all of this at a higher price point than comparable restaurants. The noisy atmosphere left a lot to be desired as well. I seem to remember taller booths and more separation between bar and dining area but I could very well have been wrong about that. I have gone since I was little the Raffa family is extremely friendly the staff are always so polite and enjoy a good laugh. The bread is always fresh and the food comes out nice and hot. The desserts are delightful I love going every time I can. The restaurant has a warm fun atmosphere to it so it is always a favorite restaurant of mine to eat at. read more

If your looking for party platters or some excellent food check this place out. They serve a thin pizza crust and the sauce is excellent. My favorite is the mama mia (bacon, chourico, pepperoni, sausage & ham burger). They also serve some great white pizzas including one with baby clams & garlic. read more

I have seen the Ma Raffa restaurants and the coupons and the parking lots full and after shopping on the way home decided to try it out with my 2 teen daughters. We were greeted by several boarded waitresses; I was surprised at the place, a bit dirty. We were given our menus by a waitress who was, well, grumpy. There was such an array of weird items.....I was not sure what to get. I can see why they have coupons, the prices were quite high. We decided to go for Bruschetta with spinach and tomato for appetizer....I ordered a bowl of minestrone soup, daughters had tortellini with meat sauce and the other an eggplant parm grinder. Ice tea all around. The "bruschetta" came....a cold grinder roll with huge spi nach leaves, slices of under ripe tomato with blemishes and stem....a huge glob of cheese quickly pushed under the broiler.... bruschetta???????really?????we could not eat this......waitress brought the green beans that accompanied the eggplant parm...(really?) at the same time....and all the food was out moments later. The soup was anything but minestrone. It was a leftover concoction of various pastas, not edible. The eggplant was, unappetizing, a grey, wet mess, resembling internal organs. The tortellini was the cheap frozen kind covered in lukewarm meat sauce....heavy on the grease. The waitress offered a refill of iced tea and charged full price for the extra glasses. Do you like food you could get in the frozen section of Stop and Shop? Then Ma Raffas is for you. I usually get the Giovanna pizza (white clam pie) which is decent, but yesterday I got the "fried ravioli" appetizer which literally had no taste. Their salads are amazingly bland. You cannot add anything to the salads to give them taste. Who puts green peppers as the prominent vegetable on a salad? It's really quite astonishing. Ma Raffas is the type of place mouth breathers frequent and call their favorite "Italian" restaurant. If someone from Italy went here they'd literally die....from flavorless, pre-packaged, frozen putridity. read more

The absolute worst chicken broccoli and ziti. No flavor and no sauce just clumps of wallpaper paste like white stuff

I ordered chicken and broccoli Alfredo to takeout. As I was picking up my order a woman came back in and was complaining about hers. She got a pizza with just peppers on it,opened the box and there were two tiny pieces of pepper on it. I was laughing out loud because I just don't see how that could happen. I should have left and kept my money. They have me pasta with broccoli with no Alfredo sauce. All that was on it was butter and grated parmesan cheese. For $12? It took about ten cents and two minutes to throw that together. I don't like getting ripped off so I will definitely not be back here again. read more

A great family Italian restaurant serving excellent food and on Wednesdays they have a buffet that's very inexpensive excellent restaurant for families. Although I would not regard this place as a authentic Italian restaurant, they have a really nice thin-crust pizza. In fact, they have one of my favorite thin-crust pizzas. I get the Cecilia pizza with tomato slices and broccoli on top. They add just the right amount of garlic that this sauce-less pizza just pops with flavor. Since the slices are so thin, the pizza is extra crispy and light. Their prices are also really affordable. Aside from their pizza, I cannot say too much. The rest of their food is pretty basic, but the pizza alone makes this place somewhere that is definitely worth the trip! read more

I don't believe the owner himself is running it anymore I don't know. The meatballs have changed. It seems like the whole recipe has changed. 0 flavor. Two months ago hey, two out of three meals that we had taken to go had a hair in them! Two out of three! It was absolutely disgusting. did not go for a while. Recently went for the buffet. The chicken parm had next to zero flavor and was dry. The lasagna did not taste like their lasagna that they've always had. Chicken tenders with dry flavorless. It was awful. The pizza???? Absolutely awful! It was literally paper thin granted it was thin crust but this was above and beyond. No flavor even the children did not like it. The entire meal. It's really too bad because it was one of my go to spots. The server was nice but this one star review is based solely upon the quality of the food there now. Nothing fancy here just great food. We moved from Dartmouth where the brother of the owner of Ma Raffa's owns our favorite pizza and Italian restaurant Ricardi's. We were pleasantly surprised to find the same crispy, thin crust, sweet sauce pizza served right around the corner here in Somerset. We love the Cicelia (white pizza) and the 19.99 dinner for two. The lasagna is better than my Moms (don't tell her though). A small antipasto is so generous it feeds all four of us as an appetizer. Very inexpensive for a family or game night with the guys for some take out pizza. I purchased a catered sized pan of lasagna for a work Christmas party last year and it was the biggest hit. I have been eating at Ma Raffas since they opened in Somerset. I have NEVER had a bad meal. Lasagna, chicken parm, buffalo chicken are all delicious. My personal favorite is spaghetti and chourico. Less than mediocre food. I would not characterize as authentic Italian food. Cheap drinks (limited selection of brands). Actually measure the drinks with a shot glass or jigger. Maximum 2 drinks per person, yet they don't always adhere to this policy. Waitstaff gossips about cutomers to other customers. Waitstaff blames customers for order problems. After ordering same item 3 times because it was incorrect the bartender blamed me for getting waitress upset.....saying I made her cry.....which is total BS. Bartender did not address issue with me but told a friend who was with me at a later date. In fact, we left her more than a generous tip! Owner is clueless as to what is going on with the bartender(s) and wait staff. :( read more

i visit this restaurant relatively often, and never have i had an unpleasant experience. good food, and usually, good service. however, my dinner tonight (8/11) was ruined by the way i witnessed this restaurant behind the scenes. on several occasions, i could overhear the more senior employees and managers talking badly about the clearly younger employees, and, as i listened further, i could hear managers ridiculing employees for things that appeared to be minuscule mistakes, or even things that they couldn't control. on behalf of all customers, while employees think that we can't pick up on these things, we can, and it makes it very clear that this "family restaurant" is not so much of a family after all. as somebody who worked in the food industry for every summer of my high school experience, i understand exactly how stressful it can be on a daily basis to work together. however, my family of five will not be returning to a place of business that runs like a high school cafeteria. read more

if there was a no star option that would be what i would give this place. we ordered take out at the restaurant and waited for it to be ready to expect high quality fresh food, that was not the case. We ordered a tuna grinder and an order of fries which came to around 12 something. I wouldn't gave bought it if it was given to me for free much less if someone paid me to take it the grinder was smooched and messy in the box and the what i expected to be fresh fries were over cooked cold and soggy, i didn't know such a think was possible for fries absolutely not edible. So my girl friend called it is to complain and after requesting that we would like a remake or just pick it up tomorrow we were told the would mail us a gift card so i was appointed at the wait but since this seems to be my girlfriends favorite place and she is a regular we agreed with little satisfaction. So 5 days go buy and no gift card so my girlfriend calls back to find out whats going on. So she spoke to a manager or attempted so as he continued to yell at her and tell her to bad and refusing the gift card or a reorder for the food we couldn't even it. saying thing like, "we cant make everyone like our food." ,"go some where else." "to bad." "not my problem." while not letting her get a sentence out bringing her to tears as her favorite restaurant treated her like dirt. Me not believing what happened call right back and got the same treatment also not able to get a word out and eventually getting hung up on. So i would not be returning here again and just wonder if they treat regulars that go here twice a week this way how do they treat one time customers.
