I was craving a Mediterranean salad and found this place nearby and ordered the chicken kabob salad to go. When I walked inside it smelled amazing so I was hoping it would be pretty good. Service was good, the woman at the front was nice but once she rang me up my total after tip was $20! For a salad!! I thought okay, this better be an amazing salad. I also read on the menu that it came with pita bread. I get home and there is no pita bread and the salad is just sloppily put together with black olives instead of kalamata which I found super weird. The chicken was okay, a little bland with a weird texture. I basically purchased the most expensive salad I have ever had in my life and was severely underwhelmed. We went on a Wednesday early evening and it was pretty busy with only 2 workers there. After awhile I think one of the owners came out and realized how busy it was and immediately stepped in which we appreciated. it did take a really long time before our orders started to arrive. It was about a 50min process from waiting, ordering, sitting and waiting. We ordered: Falafel: Delicious! More of like a round ball than disc like but it was delicious. Veggie Kabob: The rice was really really good and super flavorful. The veggies were really oily. Located in the relatively new shopping plaza off Oceanside Blvd. and College Blvd. where the IHOP is, Maan's is small, but it's clean and newish. Eats: - Dolma ($5.99) - Gyros Wrap ($5.99) - Shrimp Kabob Entree ($10.45) - Maan's Special Meat Entree ($10.15) I ordered the Gyros Wrap. I thought it was okay. I felt like there could have been more meat and less lettuce stuff. The meat itself was pretty tasty: flavorful and tender, but there was just not enough of it and when eating the wrap it kind of got lost in all the other stuff. My friend said that the shrimp on the Shrimp Kabob Entree was not good, mostly due to the fact that they were really overcooked, and who likes overcooked shrimp? The rice on the entree was okay, nothing special. By far the best thing we ordered was the Maan's Special Meat Entree. The meat in the wrap was tasty as was the wrap itself. If you're going to order something, I'd order this. The Dolma were pretty standard. Nothing special. Another complaint one of my friends had was that the humus was too creamy, which I agreed with. Excellente!!!! So happy with our visit here. :) Great menu with all the Mediterranean classics, falafels, shawarma, gyros, wraps, kabobs, rice, hummus, etc. they also had burger and fries. They didn't have a kids menu though which would probably be my only recommendation on the entire place. Doesn't need to be anything fancy but something simple and portioned for a child. I'll start with what my husband got, cause it was so bomb. He got this Chicken Wrap Special. It wasn't like the typical folded pita bread wrap but more like a burrito but lightly grilled on outside and wrapped tightly for cleaner eating than the typical wrap. And it was stuffed with chicken and Mediterranean pickles, and some sauce. It was sooo good.. Chewy, warm, flavorful, unique. So yummy. Was $10 sumthin. Then I, the "health guru", got the Chicken salad. Wasn't really expecting much, ordered it more out of discipline than desire. However I was so surprised at how good it was. The lettuce was crispy, cut small, seasoned well with olive oil dressing, small bits of feta cheese, olives, decorative onion slices, with plenty warm chicken on top. I just love it when I get to eat healthy and deliciously at the same time. I think I paid $8 sumtin.. Then on top of everything we got a rockin 30% off coupon from a mailed coupon book. Super deep discount. For the quality of food and price this place gets a 5 star all the way. Oh and they also offer these $5 lunch specials. As for service, there isn't much to tell. Cashier is very laid back, didn't talk much, but still friendly. Accommodated all our requests. Place itself was clean. Appreciated the quiet and clean atmosphere. The menu had pictures a huge plus for me cause I'm super visual. Not sure how many times I have ordered stuff with no picture and was disappointed when I saw it cause it wasn't what I expected. We haven't been to the actual restaurant but have ordered from here multiple times! No matter what we ordered, the food is always amazing! The meats are tender, juicy, and well seasoned! The rice, hummus, salads, and pita bread are a absolute must! Alright so I didn't find anything in my food today thank goodness but I'm a bit thrown back on why the hell the cook was rinsing my chicken tekah in the sink ? I saw that thanks ! Bad first impression from management/ownership so I will not be going back. I showed up for lunch with a Living Social voucher I had bought a few weeks back. When I arrived I realized the voucher said "dine in." I explained this to him and let him know I did not have time to dine in that day and politely asked if he could make an exception and allow me to take my food "to go." He began complaining about losing money on Living Social and that he was no longer offering them. I pointed out that my voucher was still valid and politely asked once again for an exception. He said "no". When asked why, he said packaging is too expensive. I was shocked that he was willing to lose a potential customer over a .10 cent styrofoam container? Are you serious? Does he charge his customers for a "to go box" when they have leftovers? At that point I told him that I would just cancel my Living Social voucher and get a refund because I will not be coming back. FYI, if you dine in, he may charge you for a "to go box" if you want to take your leftovers. Or maybe you should bring your own Tupperware. read more

I've been on a kabob kick lately and I'm a big fan of Mediterranean food so I decided to stop by here and give it a try. The place is located in a nice, spacious shopping center which includes the new IHOP. It's a small restaurant, but neat, clean and new looking inside. We were the only customers and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. I ordered the Greek Salad, baklava, the beef kabob entree (with hummus, pita and salad on the side), and my kids both ordered cheeseburgers. I don't expect salads to be bursting with flavor, but this salad had absolutely no flavor. It was very bland. The baklava was too sweet. My kids are sweet-aholics and even they were making puckering faces while trying it. The beef kabob was nice and tasty, but nothing to write home about. The hummus was just...well...hummus. Surprisingly, the best food was the non-Greek food which were the cheeseburgers. They were very very good and very well seasoned. The portion sizes were right, but I felt that this place was a bit pricey. My order came up to just under $40. Is this place horrible? Nah, but I'm definitely not dreaming about my next meal here. I just used Maan's to cater for a party of almost 100. With one week notice, Maan came thru like a champ. He delivered it personally, set everything up in our chaffing pans and made sure everything was just right. Both the chicken and lamb were moist, flavorful, and delicious! LEGIT! This place is awesome. It's like one of those hole in the wall downtown New York City places that doesn't look like much but when you try it, it blows everything else away. We got a gyro salad - Greek salad with gyros on it, chicken salad, and the kabobs. The gyro meat was fresh and perfectly cooked. They've got all the meat down. The kabob plate came with this green chimichurri-like sauce. I have no idea what it is called but next time I go I'm getting extras. I want it as salad dressing, meat dressing, wing sauce. I hope you read this, Maan. Maan lost me as a customer from my last experience, which is a shame because I'd been a regular customer for over 6 years. Long story short, I ordered take out via the postmates app. I ordered a $14 gyro salad. Picked it up (no, unfortunately, I didn't check it, it's Covid times and I was trying to get in and out quickly). I came home to find a salad with no gyro meat- a plate of lettuce, tomatoes, and olives! When I finally got a hold of Maan. He told me to call postmates for a refund (no apology by the way). Naturally, postmates refused to refund because it was the mistake of the merchant. I called again and he said he'd refund me, but get this, ONLY $4 for what a side of meat would cost (again, no apology). And the final outcome, surprise surprise ... HE NEVER REFUNDED ME! This rude, cheap, owner decided $4 was more important than a customer's experience. For those of you who know that experiences like this are rare, I'll give you quick details about the food... -Subpar and not authentic -Store-bought pita bread -Falafels are either old and frozen or store-bought -Fries are always soggy Why was I a regular? Jump for Gyro! This place is delish. Another local find and happily surprised by the outstanding portions. The gyro meat was so tender, flavorful and carved perfectly. You can tell they make everything fresh because the tzatziki is a different hue than another other chain places I've been. The rice is buttery, salad fresh and Pepsi cold. The food wasn't terrible, but you can definitely do better for "mediterranean". If you've eaten at Daphnes this is pretty similar but not as good. It's very plain food. I hate to complain too much about anyone making food for me (I hate cooking), so I'll just say if its your only option the food isn't the worst but there are a lot of similar restaurants around here and you can do better. I don't eat salads so I asked for my entrée to have a side of rice instead of a salad, they said they can do that for me, so they proceeded to give me a salad anyways. Very good! Got the falafel appetizer and chicken shwarma wrap to go. The falafel was a bit lackluster in flavor, but I appreciated the spices not being overpowering because of how rich everything was. The falafel were definitely the best made I've had. They weren't overly fried and they had excellent texture. The chicken shwarma wrap was full of meat and very tasty. It wasn't the best shwarma I have had (that spot goes to a weekly food vender at the Kaiser hospital in San Jose) but it was a good competitor when eating it with a side of their tzatziki sauce. That sauce was bomb! But the best of all was the price. Both items for $13, not bad.
