While the service was superb, the food was sub-par. In an upscale restaurant I expect to pay more for high quality food. I don't expect to pay more for chewy steaks. Nice looking location and atmosphere. My wife has several food allergies and she enquired how the chicken was to be prepared and was bluntly told by our blonde waitress that they make it like they make it. She asked for it to be pan seared in olive oil to avoid any cross contamination and it was obvious that what came out had not be prepared as requested. Her request to hold off on the seasoning was also ignored as "they make it like they make it". The hell with what the customer wants. There goes $20. We could have complained but didn't as I didn't really trust sending something back into the kitchen. My salmon was ok, not great, but ok. The Brussels sprouts were adequate. The food overall was mediocre. Lot of potential though, but there is a need to listen to what the customer is saying. read more

This restaurant is right off Broadway. It is also the best fine dining experience near Broadway. Most times when I dine here, it's with out-of-town guests Who don't really know what kind of food they want, and the variety here is good. The wait staff is very knowledgeable about the food that is being served for the night, the chefs menu is always intriguing and usually the best choice for me. I rarely order something else but when I do are usually get the petite fillet. The sangria here is excellent, I prefer the white to the red. By far, my favorite dessert has been the cheesecake. We made visits in the past, and brought friends. But last Thursday the service was horrible so we walked out, and never had dinner. Requested a specific table for sentimental reasons, and was told upon check-in that the table was being cleaned for us. While having a drink at the bar, another party was seated at our table. I questioned this and was told other people had priority because they booked the table on a website. I had done the same thing. Hostess/manager was totally incompetent and lied to me during our discussion. As stated before, I was told the table was mine when I checked in. Greeted by a rustic brick exterior, this place is easy to spot. New to Atlanta, I tried some local Georgia beers but they have a large varieties of wine and cocktails. We started off with the calamari and artichoke. The calamari was delicious but the artichoke just tasted like the breading it was fried in. Next course was a Caesar salad with oven roasted croutons and cracked pepper. It was refreshing to get some crisp greens after a long day traveling. The main course was a bacon wrapped filet and garlic mashed potatoes. The steak was perfectly cooked medium rare. Overall great experience. After all the rave reviews from local friends, we were really excited for date night here - Once a month we get dressed up for each other as I am a very casual person and he wears a uniform. The food wasn't terrible by any means but it just lackluster. The biggest thing though was our strange server. He was really pushy about us ordering more and we were already ordering an app, two entrees and a bottle of wine. He also made an odd comment about my wine selection, I of course just shrugged it off, but I'm originally from wine country and although we are primarily craft beer drinkers, every once in awhile you just want a good full-bodied red with some Italian food. Let's start off with the ambiance! Warm lighting gives it a romantic feel. It's in an old historic building so they when points with being unique. The vibe is pleasant. Well I had planned my girlfriends 21st birthday party dinner 2 weeks ahead of time with mabella and I call the day of to make sure everything was squared away and they said they lost my reservation and the dining room was fully booked. Love this restaurant! This is the type of place where every plate of food looks delicious. I ordered steak and a baked potato and it was so good. Although the portions were a little large, the waitress convinced me to get dessert. I ordered the cheesecake with strawberry topping and had it sliced in half so I could take some of it home with me. It was pretty amazing and probably one of the best meals I've had in a long time. My partner was craving pasta and I've been wary about using Yelp bc it's been a hit or miss. Since we are visiting, we didn't know anyone to ask on where the go to Italian restaurant was at. I decided to take a chance on yelp reviews. We ordered the chef's board (charcuterie) which had three types cheeses, three types of meats, roasted nuts, pickled beans, grapes and some sweet jam (I think it was jam, the waitress wasn't sure). He got the lasagna and I got the ribeye. The lasagna and pasta side i got were al dente, so good. The steak was perfectly cooked at medium rare, but a bit charred on the outside that left a slightly bitter taste. We were so full from the charcuterie that we had to pack half our entrees. My husband and I went here for dinner one night and we had the option to valet our car. It was only $5. The hostess in the front greeted us and gave us a welcome feeling. Once we sat down, our waiter was super pleasant. He explained the menu and helped us choose our appetizers. We had the crab cake and the mussels. The crab cakes are to die for. They taste super good and it was what I was looking for. For my entree, I had the wild mushroom ravioli. By far the best tasting mushroom ravioli I ever had. The steak they paired with it is pretty tasty too. It was cooked perfectly and oh so tender. My husband had the lamb chops. They explain that the lamb chops are actually cut a little big so if you normally go medium rare, it's best to go medium with these lamb chops. They also have a lot of fat, which can be a problem for others but I feel like it adds more flavor to it. For dessert my husband and the cheesecake. If you're on a date, only order 1. The cheesecake is huge and super rich. I've been told they make it fresh everyday. I ordered the chocolate cake. I love their chocolate cake. read more

I have to say -- this is by far the best meal I have had here and highly recommend trying it out. My fiancé got the steak and I got a pasta dish and both were out of this world with flavor and taste. Quality! Quality! Quality! From the appetizer, to the mains, to the desserts, Mabella's exudes quality in not only their provisions, but also in their employees. After being absent from the restaurant scene in Columbus for a year, it was refreshing to be served big city dishes in a town devoid of true culinary goodness for so long. Our appetizer was a prosciutto wrapped date in clover honey. The prosciutto infusion with the date was a marriage I had not seen before, but was properly executed by the chef. I did not taste the date itself but did experience the textures of both. The dish was ingenious. Our main courses were the Salmon & the NY Strip (aka MB Steak & Frites). The salmon was cooked to perfection and laid on a bed of sautéed spinach, paired with perfectly executed baby carrots, garnished with a slice of orange complimenting the dish. The sauce on the succulent salmon was very well complimented and the flakes on the filets were very thick - true perfection. The steak was covered in a delectable gorgonzola & sun-dried tomato butter paired with walnuts and served medium, as desired. I opted out of the fresh cut garlic fries for a salt-crusted baked potato and a side of grilled asparagus, served separately from the steak. The dessert special of the evening was an apple and brandy-filled crepe sprinkled with powdered sugar and topped with a scoop of rich vanilla ice cream. The crepes arrived as they were ready as to not allow time for them to soften too much. There were other crepes available, but this one sounded the most appealing. Mabella's Italian Steakhouse should not be confused with the other chain Italian steakhouse in north Columbus with their never-changing menu. Mabella's is way better than a chain restaurant in that their menu changes often, as expected from a high-end restaurant. I am now looking forward to my return to Columbus to enjoy our next visit to Mabella's when I have my extended family. read more
