Sometimes you get what you pay for. I don't love spending a lot of money on make up, but I was on the hunt for foundation that wouldn't smudge and rub off. I've worn MAC products before and I really like their mascara. My mom wears MAC foundation and has been pleased with it so she suggested I give it a try. Nayla helped me find some foundation and concealer as well as a make up brush. I had a general idea of which foundation I wanted, but I didn't know what type of concealer or makeup brush that I wanted. Nayla was very helpful. She explained the different products and made suggestions. I've been using the concealer and foundation for a few weeks and I like it. It definitely stays on my skin and doesn't smudge off like other brands. It also feels lighter on my skin. I love the foundation brush too! 10 out of 10 experience! I want to acknowledge and thank Bri at this location for giving me the experience of my life! I came here to purchase one item since my wedding was in a few days and I was doing my make up myself. Bri (ofc shared I can book a make up appointment there) but the wedding time and date didn't work so I wanted to do my own make up. I came to purchase a foundation but Bri shared soooo much knowledge and MAC products I couldn't help but shop for a little bit more. Bri was so kind and knowledgeable about make up, techniques, & skills on how to apply them for a natural everyday look (which I wanted to learn so bad!) I was able to learn a new way how to shape my eyebrows, to contour my face, try a new lip combo, apply liquid blush, and bake my face. Once Bri is at this company/location, I will definitely be back to try more MAC products! She represents the company well and I truly appreciate her customer care! A Mack is only a MAC that is oKay to be in this store. That's horrible, and I apologize for trying to make myself un-traumatized from this experience! I am a just a humble city guy that likes to eat his weight in delicious culinary items. Nowhere in my quest to get the perfect beach ball body did I ever think I would wake up and say, "Playtime, let's go to a makeup store and see if you can look pretty." Truth be told, I did not say that today either, but yet I found myself going to a well-known makeup supplier so I can be "red carpet ready." What does that mean...and why is the carpet red? The carpet is outside...make it an earthy color so it will not stain easily! I initially called ahead hoping that they told me that they do not do makeup fittings, but that was a fool's dream. A Mrs. Kim answered the phone and told me that they would be happy to fix me right up and that the process would only take 15 minutes at max. I was already realizing that resistance was futile, and that I was going to be assimilated, so I just hoped in my truck, A MANLY TRUCK, and went to the store. This particular location is located in a section of central Houston called Rice Village, and parking may worry you. I saw plenty of paid parking lots around the area, but Kim let me know that they validated parking and to just find the parking garage right in their complex. After viewing a parking garage that said they accepted validated parking for 2 hours or less, I was parked and in search of my pretty. As I entered the store, I was greeted by all the employees, and no one even batted an eye that this relatively tall, fat and hairy man was standing in the doorway. I was asked how I needed to be assisted by a guy with one of the well-manicured beards I have seen up close! This guy, Charles Rojas, listened to all my demands of the puppet masters, which included getting a "Studio Fix Profile," as well as an "Everyday Fix Profile." Charles grabbed a chair and was ready. I have questions though. I am seeing mountains comprised of various shades of lipstick and they look real, and they looked like someone may have used them. I had to know if they were display items or for use. Charles informed me that they were for use, but were quickly sanitized after someone opts to use them. With all sanitary issues out the way, I proceeded to be fixed...pun probably intended. Charles explained the process. I was first given a foundation of "Time Check Lotion." After that, they used "Studio Tech NW47," and finished off the outside look with "Dark Deep Mineralize Powders." I had to admit that I barely could tell the stuff was on, and the many customers that passed through during my makeup application process said it looked well also. Kim told Charles that there was one more product that would be to my liking and will probably be a tad bit closer to my natural skin tone. She asked Charles to apply the "MAC Lightful C Tinted Cream with Radiance Booster Broad Spectrum SPF 30 - Dark Deep." Charles and the store patrons were pleased with this look. I was actually more pleased with this look as well. I tested it out all day. I realized that I could get away with the makeup when my children, with special emphasis on my 17 year old son, did not realize I had makeup on. They still didn't believe it when I told them. All in all, the trauma of having to be red carpet ready was not too bad. I actually didn't shave or groom myself at all so I could have the most manly makeup application experience as possible. The staff of MAC Rice Village is friendly, professional and patient. No way will I give a makeup store that coast this much 5 stars, but they can get a strong 4 stars and my frugal meter will be okay with it! I was looking for a more affordable foundation. My sister suggested I visit the Mac store to get matched by skin color. Caitlin approached me to help me choose the right makeup. I saw eyelash extensions. I had not imagined buying them. They have different lenghts and thicknesses. She trimmed the extensions she said were the most popular and showed me how to glue them in. She said I was welcome to return to the shop if I wasn't able to correctly glue them. I walked out very satisfied with my purchases and used two of the three items this afternoon. The parking in this area is a little difficult. Plan to feed a meter. Colors, Colors, color's There has not been one time that I can say I've been to this store and not purchased anything! Even if I just go to buy one thing, I end up buying more! MAC is like a drug. As soon as you start browsing the colors you decide you need an eyeliner to match your lipstick, but maybe a mascara to complete your look... but why have a lipstick if you are not going to line it.. lip liner please! lol, that's what I do when I'm at MAC. Prices are not too bad, but they do add up. I just spent $30 on a eyeliner and a lipstick.. last time I spent $160 on brushes and eyeshadow, the previous time I spent about $90 on primer, lip gloss and Mascara. One thing I do have to say is that their products last! I actually just found out about their recycling program, which I will definitely use! If you bring back six containers of eyeshadow, powder, or whatever you use back to the store they give you a free lipstick, lip gloss, mascara, or eyeshadow! How cool is that! I will definitely be saving my containers from now on! The Mac girls are great! Always willing to help find color that match my skin tone. I love that they give you little tips and advice on how to apply your makeup. MAC, you are doing a great thing... keep up the good work! read more

Really enjoyed my experience at this store. Despite the fact that there is a competitor just steps away from this store, the interactions from staff here definitely set themselves apart. I was able to leave with just what I wanted though there were definitely many post holiday items on sale. Being my third visit I had an idea of what I needed and I was helped to find exactly that. I noticed that everyone who walked in was in the same predicament, they needed something and were helped fairly immediately to meet that need so they could be on their way. Love this location! I recently had my makeup bag stolen out of my car and decided to go all out and buy makeup I wanted. The manager, Sarah, picked out some great colors for me, introduced me to one of their new color palettes, and definitely got me hooked on their extended play mascara. All the makeup artists have been super friendly and helpful each time I've gone back to pickup other products. Have to say I'm addicted! The only down side to this location is that parking can sometimes be a challenge as rice village stays pretty packed and has switched over to a metered parking system. So Jan 2018 I had a black tie event, made an appointment with Natalie to have my make up done. Brought in a pic and she NAILED IT! I couldn't be happier! So for the 2019 event. I came in the store and booked again with Natalie. When I arrived at the store, a gentleman name Carlos said he was doing my makeup! WTF?! I didn't book with Carlos, I booked with Natalie. But I trusted him anyways because his makeup application looked good too. However I found out he didn't even do his own makeup! One of the other MAC girl had complimented on how nice he looked and he said "thanks to you!" Meaning SHE did his make up! So I showed him the pic of my dress and brought in a pic of how I wanted my makeup to be. Since my dress was bright red I wanted warm eyes and lips that popped. I told him what Natalie did last time and she used liquid foundation and I wanted the same. I wanted full coverage and NOT to look cakey. He did the total opposite. Used no liquid and only powder. I look so pale and cakey! Barely even swatched colors. I also do eyelashes too, he couldn't even get them on my last line! What a joke! Never going back to them. He spent 45 mins on my make up at best. I ended up paying and washing it all off and going home and doing it all myself. I came to the store September 18,2015. My birthday is on the 21st I have this new motto that I an living by and I'm noticing how negative people can be when you're in high spirits. I walked into the Mac store I wasn't greeted at all... Which I am use to when shopping in areas such as this. As an African American it crazy how people treat customers of color and its disheartening to know how race can effect things. I was interested in buying matte lipstick I knew what color I wanted and everything, it was quick run to this store. A male clerk passed me and I said, "excuse me could you get me matte royal and instigator". He responded with a no problem. I stand and wait and mins go buy and ask a different worker. Who quickly grabbed what I needed and was helpful. I then proceeded for check out, and which the manger rings me up; she rushes me through the process and basically takes my money with a rude demeanor after I pay and i leave I couldn't help be feel so disrespected and I could feel the energy,honestly this was by far the worst experience I've ever had with shopping I wanted to cry and it has nothing to do with white people specifically it is just people in America in general. in the store there were other ethnicities who were in the store and who worked there. The judgement was noted at the door and it should be stopped I hope no goes through what I did today. It was completely disheartening and unnecessary. I will be returning what I brought... On the weekends, you can be sure that service will be a bit rushed. The makeup artists (MUA) are busy with selling products while trying to get a makeover done on the customer who requested it. They do their best, but you can't get mad at them for the fact that this is a small MAC with a ton of people on the weekends. So when is the best time to go? On the weekdays, when they open and around 3 pm are pretty slow times. On the weekends, when they open is your best bet for great service. I think the best advice I could give someone is to make friends with your MUA. They'll let you know tricks and tips, and they're all very patient with you. They know what's right for your skin tone, your face shape, your hair color. Elaine is my go-to person; she's the store manager and I'm definitely going to have her do my wedding makeup when that comes around in a couple of years. If Elaine isn't there, my next go to person is Michelle, who always has flawlessly vampy fall lipstick on that I envy. MAC's makeup can be expensive (like their brushes) but it also lasts a long time. I remember reading a blog somewhere that said you divide the mass of a lipstick by 0.008 and you'll get the number of swipes you have in it, which makes a MAC lipstick have 375 swipes. That'll last quite a while for $15. The same blogger did a calculation for blush (divide the mass by 0.014) and a pan of MAC blush will last you 428 applications for $21. So if you put it into perspective, MAC isn't all that bad, if you're not buying brushes. read more

I have not always loved Mac cosmetics. Their color is good, it's always been the shining beacon it of it all. It was only recently that I discovered how amazing the face and body makeup is. I was in the store on Tuesday and with the help of a friend who is a professional makeup artist and the wonderful Mac artist Angela I got some great stuff. While there were only 2 MAC girls on staff that day, they did a great job of managing clients and making sure everyone was helped. I discovered an amazing foundation that day. The Face and Body foundation is humidity resistant and amazing for the Houston climate. It comes in a rather large bottle and needs to be put on quickly. LOVE this product. My favorite makeup, ever. Whenever I'm in need of a little pick me up, it soothes my soul to hit up a Mac and have them show me some new color choices. The girl who helped me on this visit was friendly and accommodating - and pretty much the opposite of aggressive when it came to sales. She helped me find some new colors, tried a couple looks on me, and even colored in a little eye makeup diagram for me to take home. Handy! Really, Mac has the BEST products. This isn't a review of their make up, but rather of the service in this store... We'll start by saying how I almost got run over by a stroller . . . then the make up artists all decided to stop on their tracks and admire the baby (it may have been someone they knew). The ones who didn't were too busy talking to each other to notice there was a client. Finally, one of the girls came to me (I'm in the market for new foundation, and I had never tried MAC before) . . . she tried really hard to find the right foundation, but she didn't. In the end, she gave me something with yellow undertones (no one has ever ever ever told me I have yellow undertones), and it didn't really match my skin tone. It looked really, really bad. That's how I was when I walked into this MAC branch earlier this evening. Honestly, I'm clueless about makeup and I just stopped by to get some things that would keep me from looking underdressed at a fundraiser. I literally only buy or put make up on once a year for this gala. In stepped Felicia. She was so patient with my lack of knowledge and has a sincere love for what she does, which is make people look and feel beautiful. I didn't feel pressured to buy anything I didn't want or need. I actually learned a little bit about how I could change my look dramatically with just a few products. So thankful I took the time to stop here, rather than at the drugstore or somewhere else where I might not have benefitted from Felicia's expertise. This is the place to go! Great service and even greater people. The atmosphere is very upbeat. I am always lucky to pop in when Sarah is there. This girl is a GEM. I am African American with dark spots from years ago that I'm super self conscious about. Sarah goes out of her way every time to console my frustrations but also make my face look great. Sometimes it is very uncommon to find a makeup artist who can do all shades of skin and cover all skin problems. If someone asks for a makeup recommendation I immediately send them to her. MAC needs to hold onto this girl! Pure talent. The store is clean and you can be in and out. The girls are very knowledgeable. I've had Natalie work with me a couple times and she is great too! This location is my home store - but I can't stand their hours! Somehow I always run out of makeup around 6:15pm and by that time they have all shazamed out of there. So I'd rather check out any location in a department store or the Galleria location. BUT... I must say I love coming here (early on a weekday morning of course - when there's not too many MAC mommas around) and checking out all the goods and new arrivals. I feel like that little girl trying on every shade of her mother's eyeshadow ... sometimes I still look like her ... I GOTTA get a training session - Jesus help me! I was 8 months pregnant and in town from California for a wedding not exactly feeling my best. I decided to get my make up done at this MAC location and was so blessed to have gotten Natalie as my make up artist. She went above and beyond to work with my hormonal skin and puffy eyes and chose the most flattering colors and technique. I actually cried when I looked in the mirror after she was done because I hadn't seen my face look like that since before I had my first child 18 months prior. I didn't think I could look like "myself" again but Natalie made me look better than I even looked before kids. I felt so confident and happy going to that wedding that night. I can't thank her enough for being so thoughtful and patient or praise her enough for her skill and being so meticulous. I go to this MAC store more than any other, as I can get there and back to work during my lunch break. When I go during lunch it is never crowded and I can typically get waited on and get out the door quickly, however if you go during peak hours this is not the case. As other reviewers mentioned, they do not have someone working the register so you have to wait around for someone to service you, even if you are just coming in to get your regular items and not shop around. Also, in the evenings if they are slow, they will simply close early. I have had this happen to me on numerous occasions. Sometimes there are still employees in the store, and they opened up the door a bit to say "Sorry, we closed early" in a peppy voice.... SO frustrating. I've never had any problems with them being out of anything, so the store is well stocked. read more

I confess. I can't apply make-up. My mom never taught me how to do it and I assume that's where most girls learn. In college, girlfriends just did it for me when I went out. However, I am starting a new job on Monday and want to attempt to look like a put together young woman. Hence, my trip. Luckily, I was not in any rush because it was insanity (think 10 people in a room the size of my bedroom). One worker was waiting on a group of five young women. Another worker was apparently gossiping with his friends. After dallying around for five minutes, the one worker said she was going to get someone to help me. Help me she did. I explained my plight and she totally hooked me up. The girl seriously taught me how to apply concealer and eyeshadow. Amazing. However, the whole process took forever because she had to abandon me three times to help other customers because the other worker was still gossiping. I left with a pile of new make-up and the confidence to wear it, but with a significantly lighter wallet and an hour of my afternoon lost to the MAC world. read more

Not sure how I feel. I wasn't THRILLED with my makeup but I got LOTS of compliments on it.. I booked an apppointment and stressed I would be pressed for time. I was assured that the MUAs are "trained to complete a face in 30 miutes" and that I would have "plenty of time," to make it to my red carpet event. That was not the case. Carlo started on me late, and almost EVERY single thing he needed, he had to leave the private room to go find. The first time or two, produced a chuckle, after that, it became REALLY irritating.I didn't care for my brows and it took a little convincing to get him to do them the way I'm used to any other MUA doing them. Overall, my look was ok and was well recieved, just maybe next time, I'll stick to the galleria or pearland location, or my private MUAs. read more

When I walked in, all associates were busy helping others. However, I think I only waited about five minutes for someone to help me. At first I was a little annoyed about having to wait, but it was totally worth it. Shana sat me down, and introduced me to some great products. She also made sure that my foundation was the perfect match. She answered all my questions and was super friendly. I will definitely come here again. Okay, so some people have had some terrible experiences at this store. Like, yikes. They remind me A LOT about my experiences at Mac in the Galleria (which are less than stellar.) I've only been to this store once, mind you, and it was a great experience. I was fully prepared to be ignored upon my entering the store and to have to handle things on my own. But instead I was greeted by every representative in the store (whaaaaat?!) There were a few other people in there but one of the girls were free and helped me find the Mac 217 and 216 brush + a paint pot. She offered to help me swatch other colors even though I was confident that that Soft Ochre was the color I was looking far. I was in and out in under 10 minutes. All in all, it was a great experience! Maybe I just so happen to walk in on a day when all the competent and not so pretentious employees were working. When I have done in when it has been slow the folks here have been lovely. When I have tried to go on the weekend, it's another story. I've been a regular at this MAC since I moved to the area in 2005/2006. This review is based strictly upon the service I received on my last visit not on the products themselves. I love MAC products and will purchase from another store or online in the future. I went in on a weekday early evening. I was greeted as I walked in by a MUA who was tending to another client. I began browsing meanwhile two other MUA fiddled with makeup on each other. As I chose two lipsticks to sample and was about to properly disinfect them the woman who had just rang someone up at the register rushed over to me and said, "Baby give me MY lipsticks before you massacre them!" She then took them out of my hands. I was in complete shock and hot tempered at this point. I quickly responded by letting her know I was not an idiot and I knew how to sample their products. She tried to become friendly at that point by the overuse of calling me Baby, after seeing my anger and attempted to explain that many customers come in and "mess up HER products." First of all it's just makeup which they have plenty samples of and they don't belong to her. They belong to the store. Then she began mumbling to herself how all the lipsticks were not put back in the proper places. Horrible service and lack of professionalism from this woman! She attempted to treat me like I was an invalid who had never tried on make up before. I'm a registered nurse and I'm aware of the importance of sanitizing products before trying. It's not rocket science. In addition talking rudely about other customers and then going on an OCD rant about HER make up was inexcusable. On every occasion prior to this I've received great customer service and advice on makeup selection and application. I didn't catch her name but she was a curvier woman with an almost pixie like haircut. If I ever have to venture into this store again I will be avoiding her like the plague. I prefer this location to the Galleria location because the staff is much nicer and more helpful here. Recently I was really excited to here MAC teamed up with Sanrio to make a Hello Kitty line that was scheduled to come out Feb 12th. There were going to hold a special previewing party on the 10th so that their faithful customers can pre-order stuff. But when the party got canceled the girls at the store were nice enough to call me and let me know about the cancellation and said I could come in on the 12th before they opened to do my purchases to make sure I got everything I wanted from the much anticipated line. As if that wasn't nice enough as it is, I got a call from them late Monday evening to tell me they got permission to start selling the Hello Kitty products that day and if I wanted I could come right in. So I did. (I'm a big Helly Kitty fan, don't judge me) All the stuff was still in the boxes when I got there but they took everything right out for me to sample and to make my purchases.
