Decided to stop into Mac Nail Spa after reviewing Q Spa's prices down the street (at Q Spa, a gel mani is $45). A gel mani at Mac Nail spa, however, is $35, so I gave it a try. While the staff was nice and pleasant, I'm not sure I would return. She trimmed my nails too short, so that when she was going in to round the edges, she was filing too close to my actual like flesh on the side of my fingers, and while writing this review a few hours later, the tips of my fingers feel a little raw (doesn't hurt or anything, just feels like when you cut a nail too short and its sensitive). Might try some other places on Divisadero before returning! read more

Damaged my nails! I came in with some remaining clear gel polish on my nails that needed to be removed first. Some nails didn't have any clear gel on them, and some had a portion of clear gel. The manicurist was paying no attention and aggressively filed the top of several nails that didn't have gel on them, essentially grinding away at the top of my raw nail. She was careless with the file and hurt my skin as well. When I pointed it out and asked her to stop, she was rude and told me "if I don't want my nails filed to remove the gel, then I should have said something at the start." This was not my complaint and a rude response. The remainder of the manicure was rushed and my nails literally hurt under the UV from her over-filing. She barely put lotion on my hands before trying to dash to her next customer, and I had to catch her because of a few mistakes on my nails. Would NOT recommend this place if you're looking for manicurists with attention to detail, good customer service, and top tier service. The manicure looks OK but not worth $35. Plenty of other places down the road to visit that won't damage your nails and be rude about it. read more

I had the best pedicure experience. They are accommodating with walk ins. I needed a pedicure badly. I was able to get a tech who would do just what I needed. I had the callous treatment to get the old tough skin off my heels and she did a great job! My feet feel like baby skin now! They had a good selection of polish colors to choose from. They're so diligent and detailed in the work that they do, and really do care about providing the best service possible. Always a treat coming in here. Booked a reservation through RSVMe and when I arrived they sat me down immediately. They have a huge selection of colors for both regular and gel, which is a huge plus! I was given water and mango juice in champagne flutes, and my technician was very friendly and we had small conversations that were comfortable and not awkward small talk! Another big plus! All the ladies working there were friendly and laughing with each other and gave the salon a very fun and friendly atmosphere. I got gel with removal and was in and out under an hour and left with amazing looking nails! I believe my technicians name was Hing? Ping? But she was so sweet and very detailed and efficient with her work. Great job with my cuticles and application! Overall, great experience and will definitely be using the RSVMe app to book another appointment soon. I would even go back to try a reg pedi too! I am so disappointed with my nails. It was my first time getting gel extensions and I was super excited because I heard they're much more natural looking and thinner than acrylics. I left Mac Nail Spa with clunky, crooked, badly shaped nails that are incredibly thick and have sharp unfinished and wobbly edges. At one point I spoke up and asked them to fix some big gaps and sharp pointing out bits, but they just said not to worry about it. I also got a pedicure while I was there, and they openly laughed at my feet and told me I needed extra treatments (honestly I have very regular healthy feet) so that was super weird. All in all I am out $117 (plus tip -- cause you should always tip no matter what) and I have ugly nails and scratched up feet. I'm so sad. Giving 3 starts because it was fun that they served water in champagne flutes. read more

Picked this place off of Yelp recommendations and was pleasantly surprised. We came here on a Saturday and there was only 2 other people in the salon. We did a combo of services. One of us received a gel mani and I received a reg pedi and gel mani. They have TONS of gel colors to choose from and one whole ring was dedicated to just neutrals!! One of my favorite things about this place is the staff. They're super friendly and attentive. They offer you drinks as you get your nails done. My over-all services took about 1.5 hours. I'm not sure how long the location has been opened, but it is very clean and organized. Also it has a very aesthetic layout. The chairs are a fun touch. This place is a little pricier than the ones in my neighborhood. For reference, a reg pedi and a gel mani runs about $58.50 without tip. read more

I made an appointment earlier in the day around 11:00am for a 6:30pm appointment. Before my boyfriend came in from the car, I told them I was excited because it was his first pedicure ever and they seemed friendly and eager as well. We arrived about five minutes before 6:30 and had to wait about 10 minutes to get the water in the bowls then waited 30 minutes following for just myself to start being helped. In the meantime, a woman walked in without an appointment for a manicure who they began to help before even saying anything or setting up for my boyfriends pedicure. At 7:15 (45 minutes after the appointment time) my boyfriend decided to take his feet out as he was not being helped whatsoever and it seemed they had no plan to start. They began to cause a ruckus saying 'no, put your feet back in' when he and I were both truly over it. Very unprofessional establishment that has a cute atmosphere but pedicure water was cold, no jets, there is not a massage chair even though other reviews stated there were and the 'hot stones' were no hot as they sat next to the bowl for 10 minutes. Following the pedicure she attempted to give me a glass of water and the cup had a crack in it. Then when I went to leave and put my shoes back on instead of offering the foam flip flops, she wrapped my feet with plastic wrap(see photo). UNREAL! Obviously by the time I arrived home my toes were smudged because of course plastic wrap will do that... Only positive is that she took the time to clean up my toes and have lots of selection on colors. Also, they did give me a 50% gift card for another pedicure but that will Be gifted to someone for sure. It was generally clean but I will never go back. read more

This place provided the absolute worst manicure I've had in ages. 1st, if you are not a traditional nail salon, you should have that in your about section, not the FAQs. It makes a huge difference to the quality and capabilities they can offer customers and I would not have come had I known this upfront. One very important reason why is because a few of my nails were broken pretty short, I have naturally long nails. 50% of the way thru when the techncion started painting my nail, I asked when she was going to add tips to make my nails even. It was only made clear at that point she had no way of doing so because they don't do dips or acrylics...clearly pass the point of no return. I have never had a technician ignore consistentcey in the nail length and shape and think it was acceptable - because in no way is it! Not acceptable with regards to professional or ascetic standards. Reluctant and annoyed I considered my options: Let her finish and go to another salon to have them fix it Leave unsatisfied with the way she had it or Cut all my nails short Annoyed, I asked her to make them the same length anyway by just making all of them short. She proceeded to finish my polish on a French...it looked horrible. The line work was just as uneven as my nails were! I had to admit defeat. She said I i can see your not happy.....YA THINK! I said how do you suggest we fix it, she suggested a solid color. I haven't had anything other than french in years, and I hate the way my nails turned out. She finished, commented on how pretty the color is and I headed to the checkout. The price would surly reflect the ladys missteps - nope. Then the woman who checked me out proceeded to pressure me into tipping. I asked which person the tip would be for and suggested the whole amount be given to the young woman who did my pedicure. She replied no we all share, and didn't want me to leave until l she saw the Venmo go thru. Needless to say I won't be back. read more

I'm a semi regular customer and I came in the other day for a gel mani. I had to soak off my existing gel nails, and the lady helping me put on the tin foil as usual. Then, the salon started to get busy and she left to do other things. This would have been fine except for the fact that no one was monitoring how long the foil was on my nails. I sat until my fingers started burning, and I finally took the foil off myself. Another nail tech told me not to do that, and I explained that it'd been on so long my fingers were burning. She shrugged and went on to do my nails. Fast forward two days and it's obvious that I've suffered some kind of negative chemical reaction -- the skin all around my nails is shiny and scaly and no amount of hand lotion is helping. I understand that things happen, but this isn't cool. This salon is expensive and they need to make sure they are taking good care of the people they're serving. read more
