Today is New Years, went out in search for an open eatery and saw this new restaurant open and busy so decided to give it a try. This place is brand new, so I will give them some grace. My next review will not be so nice if the food doesn't meet the expectations (given the price). I ordered take-out one rainy night. I had the wor won ton soup, and the Chinese chicken salad (which I had heard was amazing). The staff was nice, the food was ready on time. The wor won ton soup, honestly, did not have a lot of flavor. I had to add a lot of soy sauce to give it any kind of body. (It was like luke warm water). Agree with the other reviewers that the staff was friendly and food was ready when they said it would be ready. We liked everything we ordered with the exception the bbq chow mein. We thought it lacked flavored. My favorite was the ginger beef (although it could have been the Mongolian beef). I loved the fresh ginger. Good portion sizes. read more

We were so excited when China Delight opened, since our whole family already loves their original spot in South San Jose. We live just down the street, so we had to try it and it did not disappoint. The food is just as delicious as the San Jose location. Our go-to is the honey walnut shrimp, which is everyone's favorite, followed closely by the orange chicken. My dad loves one of their scallop and shrimp dishes loaded with vegetables. Honestly, everything we've tried has been full of flavor, and we love that they don't use MSG. Portions are solid, and the quality really stands out. The service is excellent, and it truly feels like a family-owned business that takes pride in what they serve. We've dined in and found it very clean, and takeout is just as good. We even know people who drive from Hollister to San Jose for this food, so having a Gilroy location cuts that trip in half. I'm so glad they opened a branch in Gilroy. The food is flavorful without being greasy, which I really appreciate. Some Chinese food can feel heavy or leave an oily aftertaste, but that definitely wasn't the case here. We ordered the Mongolian beef, which was delicious with a rich, smoky flavor. The salted fish fried rice was also very good--adding a little more salted fish would make the flavor stand out even more and take it to the next level. We also tried the vegetable chop suey and the salt and pepper pork tenderloin, and both dishes were excellent. The staff were amazing as well, especially Bill, who never failed to check on us and ask if we needed anything throughout our meal. Overall, it was a great experience. A friend and I tried this restaurant in early February. Service was prompt and friendly upon entering. We asked the waitress (owner?) what her favorite dishes were and she recommended the chow fun noodles with beef. We also got Szechuan prawns. Large portions and everything was delicious!! Super salty soy sauce Mongolian beef. It's not usually drenched in soy sauce and salt like it was Sunday night. Really disappointing.

Food is pretty good. I'd argue that right now, as a new restaurant, it's the best Chinese food in Gilroy. Hoping they stay consistent in quality. Apparently, this place has been open for 3 days or so. Had the lunch special (fried rice and broccoli beef). Hot and sour soup was included. The entree was good and prepared quick. The soup was also good, but I just like mine a little spicier. Not a bad price, either. There were a decent amount of customers for 11:30ish on a Wednesday. Staff was friendly and obviously trying their best; looks like they're fine tuning some things. Yes, tea was served in a cup with a tea bag.. I'm used to seeing a teapot when I dine in, but the tea was good and it wasn't a dealbreaker. Their menu is extensive. Ended up taking an order of chicken with mixed vegetables and chow mein to go. #1 Let me first disclose that we rate Chinese restaurants by how they stack up to China Delight on Cottle Road. #2 Yesterday was the first day these folks were open. Seems like their food & menu are the same as the Cottle location which means it's EXCELLENT! We enjoyed dinner with some good friends. Their Chinese Chicken Salad is crave worthy. Tonight we also had Won Ton soup which is very good. Won Tons hold together and filling yummy, meat tender, veggies just right (not over nor under cooked). Same for beef & broccoli. Sweet and sour pork was also great. Also love their Fried rice: super flavorful, balanced not soy heavy. Opening a restaurant is challenging & to put out such quality dishes the 2nd night is impressive. Nice job! We'll be back....frequently. Don't judge by Jim O's review. This place just opened a day ago! I also have to seriously question someone who MUST have the tea served in a Chinese restaurant in cute little white pot & cups. We recently had lunch at this restaurant. We had chow mein and it was really nice. The restaurant was clean and not over crowded. Unfortunately, one of the waiters had an eye infection, poor soul, and it was seeping green puss which was off putting. If that wasn't bad enough, he kept touching things with his hands in places he shouldn't such as the rim of my glass, the dispenser of the hot sauce and the holes on the soy sauce (which we had to ask for). It would be a good idea for them to take a food safety course. read more

The person up front sat us down and was busy moving a lot of to go orders. We had: Egg drop soup - nice ribbons of egg and some fresh vegetables for color Fried shrimp - hot, crunchy, not oily and moist shrimp Pot stickers - home made and nicely cooked Mongolian beef - ordered not spicy, beef was tender Steamed fish fillet - was huge and cooked Cantonese style String bean chicken - nicely blistered and moist chicken 6 Tsing Tao beers - cold beers and chilled glasses Although its bias is American Chinese food, the food was delicious, the menu is extensive with Peking Duck on the menu, which we'll try next time. Finally!!! Gilroy has needed a new go-to for Chinese. Used to drive up to their other location off Cottle in SJ but won't need to now! Took the family here a week after their opening and it was a hit!! Everyone enjoyed the food, see photo for our spread. We went with the dinner options that came with an appetizer, soup and 2 entrees per person I think? Can't remember the details but it is a pretty good deal and the portions are perfect enough to have left overs for the day after :) Will definitely be returning! Staff was very kind and welcoming. So glad to see a Chinese restaurant open where the old Bamboo Village had been. We went in on a Friday at around 12:00 noon. Place had a lot of other people checking out the restaurant too. Place was clean and the staff are friendly and welcoming. We ordered two of the lunch specials and a couple of items to go. Lunch special included soup, which was hot & sour soup. Tried restaurant this week at lunch. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Food was average at best. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing outstanding. Good portion sizes. Pricing appears a little off. Same price for vegetable dish as a meat entree. I disagree with one reviewer I can think of two local establishments with better food. Worth a try but expect average food and if you have a better experience you will be pleasantly surprised. I grew up going to Bamboo village all my life. When ever my parents & I wanted Chinese food in Gilroy, that is where we went. Today was the 1st time I tried China delight. I had just gotten my haircut at Supercuts across town & asked my daughter where she wanted to go for lunch. She wanted Panda Express to get Orange chicken. I remembered that China Delight had opened & suggested we go there & that I thought they would have Orange chicken. I was right. You walk in & not much has changed from when this location was B.V. The chairs, decor & booths are all the same except... the TV's. Those are new. All the wait staff were very friendly & made sure we had everything we needed. I got a plate of Walnut Chicken & my daughter got a lunch special of Orange peel chicken w/steamed rice. Now, my order came out long before hers did. I would give 5 stars because the food (we had) was great. The chicken was flavorful & tender. The broccoli was perfectly cooked. It was all very good. I just wish my daughter didn't have to wait so long for her meal to arrive. I had my food for almost 20 mins before hers came out. They kept telling us that it was coming & it eventually did. I know she really liked her Orange Chicken & rice. The chicken (even though fried) was tender & the chicken to breading ratio was good. I think people need to remember that change can be good & this location has only been open for about two weeks. Give them time. I think time is only going to make China Delight even more delightful. read more

Very disappointing if I could give 0 stars I would. Placed a phone order tonight at 4:50 pm. Was quoted 30-45 min to pick up my order. Knowing the business just opened I left about 40 min after placing the order arriving 50 min after the time I placed my order. After waiting 5 min at the counter to even be acknowledged the went to check on my order in the kitchen. When they came out from the kitchen to confirm my order they informed me it would be about 45 min to an hour more till my order is ready. Thats ridiculous. At this point I cancelled my order and will take my business elsewhere. Sadly probably wont be giving our business to such unprofessionalism. read more

I did not dine inside, but called in a pick-up order. It was ready within 15 minutes. I was pleased, because people were saying on facebook that take-out orders were really long. But I ordered very early, just before four pm. My mom and I ordered deep-fried prawns, sweet and sour pork, vegetable egg rolls and pork chow mein. The gal at the counter was super helpful and had a good sense of friendliness and humor. She seemed to truly enjoy the experience of having just opened a new restaurant there in Gilroy. The food was very good, so I just have some minor suggestions to make (not really "complaints"). I think the chow mein would be much better with the addition of more vegetables, such as more celery, cabbage and white onion, green onions, some baby bok choy or other greens, maybe a little of sugar snap or snow peas, baby corn, mushrooms, bean spouts, bamboo shoots or water chestnuts. Doesn't have to be a lot, and doesn't have to be ALL of those mentioned. Even just a few would be great. The addition of a few fortune cookies would be a nice touch. Maybe that particular evening there just weren't any available. The sweet and sour pork's bell peppers and onions could have stood just a bit more stir-frying, and we only found two small pieces of pineapple in a serving for two people. And a little more variety added into the egg rolls would be really nice, just for some more flavor. The fried prawns/shrimp were wonderful. We were pleased with the nice size of the shrimp, as they were not small. But the meat was very tender in the pork chow mein and pork sweet and sour. The sauce was well done, too. We were happy with our dinner. We just thought we would share a little "wish list" of suggestions. We are looking forward to ordering in the future many times. P.S. There were some people loitering against the building along that kind of remote section of the shopping center. Don't know if they were homeless or just employees taking a break.
