A friend of mine recently ate here and loved it, so I thought we should stop by for lunch today and try it out. They are located on Monterey road in the Creekside Plaza. There is parking right in front of the restaurant. We noticed the specials they were offering on a board out front of the restaurant. We were warmly welcomed by the staff upon entering. Since the place was empty, we got to pick where we wanted to sit. It soon got busy after we arrived. There are many tables for seating. The walls are decorated with replicas of swordfish and other types of large fish. Menus were already on our table. Our waiter took our drink order. I ordered iced tea but didn't like how it tasted. I asked for Diet Coke instead and they had no issues with that. For our lunch, I ordered the fish & chips with 1 piece of fish and a cup of clam chowder, and fries combo. My husband wanted to order the halibut, which was their special of the day, but they were out of the halibut. He ordered the grilled salmon instead and it came with two sides. For the sides he chose steamed vegetables and coleslaw. He also ordered a pint of clam chowder. We ordered the cheesy crab bread for an appetizer. Our soups came out first. The clam shower was just okay. Not the best I've had. It was super thick and very mild in flavor. The cheesy crab bread came out next. The bread needed to be toasted more. The bread was warm but the crab on top was ice cold and I didn't taste any cheese in this. It was just okay. I probably wouldn't order it again. Our entrees came out next. I think the start of the show here, for both of us, was the fish. My husband loved his Salomon. It came with three good size pieces and was very filling. My fish & chips were amazing. The batter they used on the fish was so crispy and delicious. I'd say that's one of the best fish & chips I've ever had. Their tartar sauce was also very good. I don't usually like tartar sauce but I liked theirs. Customer service here was excellent as well. The staff were so nice. Actually everyone in that restaurant was nice including the other customers. Had a late lunch here at the Morgan Hill location today with my mom. I've eaten at their downtown San Jose location several times and enjoyed it. The restaurant is in a strip mall. We had no trouble finding a parking spot at 2pm on a Saturday. The restaurant was fairly busy, but there were quite a few tables available. We were greeted and seated immediately upon arriving. The server took our drink and food orders without delay. I had the tilapia with mashed potatoes and coleslaw and a pink lemonade. My mom had the two-piece fish and chips and iced tea. I wish I could say I loved the food, but it wasn't great. The tilapia was overcooked. The mashed potatoes were served in the shape of a patty that was brown and crispy on the outside. I've never seen mashed potatoes served that way and didn't care for it. However, the coleslaw was very good and so was the pink lemonade. My mom loved her fish & chips. The pieces of fish were huge and she ended up taking home leftovers. I gave this restaurant four stars in spite of not liking my food because the service was excellent and so was my mom's food. Decided to go check out Morgan Hill location. The place was a medium size type of restaurant. With seats outside available. I decided to sit outside with the fresh air keeping me cool and shade umbrella they have on the tables. I was craving a good real genuine crab and shrimp salad. Not the imitation type some places use. I finished the salad and also ate half of my crab sandwich. In the heat we are getting here the cool temperature of the foods hit the spot. My belly!! The waitress was excellent and a true professional. Gave me free refills on my Pepsi drink and a to go box with the half sandwich I could not finish. The fries filled me up. This place is a chain and they have San Jose, Cupertino and Morgan Hill locations. I have been to Cupertino and Morgan Hill. They use real seafood. No imitation stuff like some other merchants. Tonight I had the clam chowder (luscious and silky, but I did need to add some black pepper to step up the flavor) $10/pint, several of the children had the kids chicken fingers meals, one person had a salmon meal and a couple of other orders for veggies, Cole slaw, and other fish dishes. I wanted to order more actually but remembered i got the fish and chips coming. The fish was fried nicely, crispy and overall great. The french fries or chips were decent. The interior was nice and cozy. The server was nice and attentive. They have a few TVs that were playing the football game so that was great. Plenty spots to park. Do not sleep on this joint. I know this sounds highly sus to order but their Cheesy Bread appetizer and their Chicken Fettuccine with Alfredo sauce are my go-to dishes here. I've had their fish and chips which are also excellent! The service is fast and the quality of food is fairly consistent the many times I've come to The City Fish. The only dish that I would unfortunately recommend to shy away from is their clam chowder; save your cravings for the Monterey wharf or Pismo Beach. I have been a customer since the restaurant opened years ago. I've previously written glowing reviews for the restaurant. Had dinner with my son a couple of days ago and felt it was time to give them another shout out. This establishment is a throw back to the old fishermen's wharf of years gone by. Which is a distant memory on the darkest corner of my mind. Much like the servings of years gone by. We had calamari appetizer and unlike the current servings at the wharf where you get a cup of calamari on a platter the servings here fill the plate and are piled high, giving you value for your dollar. The clam chowder actually has clams and is not overloaded with potatoes. The chicken fettuccine had plenty of chicken and was flavorful. I love the family owned "City Fish" in Morgan Hill and Cupertino. Food is always fresh, excellent quality, reasonably priced, and portions are adequate. They serve beer and wine along with water and soft drinks. The service is excellent, the employees are always ready to answer any questions. The Ambiance is excellent, when you enter, you feel like you just left the beech. The cooking is all done where you can observe, they have TV's so you don't miss any games. The calamari is not so oily compared to the other calamari I've tried and the breading is not thick so you can definitely enjoy the dish. The fish tacos were fulfilling for its price. I wish there's more fish in it than the veggies but it's still good. The 4 prawns and 4 scallops combo were good too. The breading is thick like for tempura which mentioned on the menu. They really give you 4 pieces of prawns and 4 pieces of scallops. We ended up having 5 breaded scallops because 2 of them were halves. The green and black mussels tastes good and its size were medium to large so it's worth it. We went to other restaurants that have something similar and it's usually on a smaller end. The service was good. They come and checked on us twice if we're doing okay. In addition, they made sure that they removed some plates to make room in our table. OK fish n' chips. I kept hearing City Fish had amazing fish n' chips but it was for the Cupertino location. We happened to be in Morgan Hill and I was excited to find they had a branch here. They are located in a large plaza with plenty of parking, they are street facing and easy to spot for first timers. The interior is decorated in a fisherman nautical theme and it made me think of The City Fish Co in Seattle. I think the reason why I thought it was OK is I'm a big fan of British style, they use different batter and fish and the potatoes are cooked differently. This place I would call American style. Combos were OK, fish was well cooked and fresh but not the type we were looking for and each piece was also small, almost like a large fishstick. The fries were overcooked and some were turning brown with a very light starting to burn taste. We got the clam chowder with one combo and it was very watery with very little clams and potatoes. We come here whenever we're in the mood for fish n chips. Their portions are large and the batter is nice and crisp. It's preferred to dine in since ordering anything crispy will not yield good results by the time it's delivered. Besides, you can lather your fish, prawns, oysters, or scallops in their tartar or cocktail sauce onsite. You can't really go wrong with any of the above items. The only thing they can improve on here is their fries. It's a bit powdery for me despite how much they deep fry them. And since they come unsalted, it's not gonna stick to the salt grains once served so I feel like you need to either eat them au naturale or drench them in some kinda sauce. read more

I was in the area for a work event and needed a quick bite to eat ahead of time.  I'd been to the San Jose location in the past, but didn't realize there was one in Morgan Hill.  I came on a Saturday late afternoon/early evening.  Already the parking lot was pretty full, and so was the restaurant.  It was able to squeeze into an empty table near one of the TVs (showing college football).  The menu was already on the table, so I chose my food and ordered through the server.  The food came very quickly (though the place was hopping with in person diners as well as several folks ordering to-go).  I chose the clam chowder and 1 fish combo, which came with fries as well as some soup crackers.  Right away, I could tell that the chowder was freshly made (not out of a can).  And the fish (Alaskan pollock) was perfectly cooked, which just a light tempura breading.   The server also brought in bottles of tartar sauce and ketchup, while the malt vinegar was already on the table.   Everything was delicious, and I finished my meal very quickly.  If I had more time, I would have ordered more food.  But that will have to wait until the next time! read more
