Great atmosphere! I took my wife here for her birthday dinner. We ordered appetizers, calamari and Brussel sprouts. They were both gone within minutes. My wife ordered the Italiano which consisted of sausage, meatball, rigatoni and ricotta cheese. Large portions so she could not finish it. I ordered the braised short rib and it was amazing. Perfectly cooked flat noodles with a brown sauce with nice chunks or short rib. My daughter ordered penne vodka. Again nice size portions and we had to take the rest home. Great way to finish things off with some tiramisu and lemon torta. We will be back to try new Items on the menu! read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the northeast! It's local to me, and every time I come here, I have to sit in their backyard lounge, P2. You wouldn't even think you were in the northeast, let alone Philly! It has such a cute, welcoming vibe. The only issue is their high top tables are super small. Your better off sitting at the bar to have more room. I recently came here and had the calamari and the sausage diavola pizza. The calamari was good but I felt it was spicier last time, which I loved. The pizza is thin crust and so flavorful. I just ate some of its leftovers and it was still just as good. Some of my other faves are the rigatoni vodka and the chicken parm. This place is pricey but their food is so worth it! Their desserts are so good as well - I think their dessert menu changes though. We went here to celebrate my son's 16th birthday. The restaurant is strategically designed to accommodate diverse customers. One side of indoor dining has the bar and high tops for casual diners. The other side of the restaurant is more formal and intimate. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and did an excellent job explaining what to expect. The food was delicious as it was seasoned well and cooked to perfection. The fish special was fresh, flavorful, juicy and seared well. The ribeye special was seasoned well, juicy and cooked to a perfect medium. Dessert was also amazing (chocolate cake and tiramisu ). Definitely adding this to my list of local restaurants to visit for a great dinner. Unfortunately I was too busy enjoying the food to take pictures to share. read more

It was our first visit to Macaroni's and it was truly memorable....most certainly, it will not be our last. It is a beautiful place ~ pleasantly decorated, so very clean with a romantic vibe ~ and an absolutely perfect spot to celebrate everything. Their service is impeccable with super courteous, knowledgeable servers and a menu to entice return visits. The Rigatoni Vodka was both incredible and plentiful as was the Lobster Ravioli. True Italian cuisine ~ the pasta was superb, the gravy was heaven. Complimentary peppers, bread at the start of our dinner were delicious and addicting....the Meatballs appetizer was an exquisite beginning, with two meatballs sitting atop a bed of ricotta cheese, pomodoro gravy...it was a lovely prediction of what was yet to come. Don't miss this spot if you're ever in Northeast Philly. What a place. Killer back bar also. We shared calamari, meatballs, and shrimp cocktail. All were phenomenal. Side salad that tasted so fresh. They had a seared tuna sandwich which I enjoyed. Great piece of fish and not messy at all. I stole a lived of lobster ravioli from my friend too. All of it was great. It was not expensive at all. This update is due to an incident that happened. The food was great which is why I only took off one star even though normally this would have been unacceptable. I was initially charged correctly for my meal and left a tip then when I check a few days later the final charge on my card was triple my bill. Which means this charge was manually inputted after the initial swipe. I am glad everything was resolved smoothly but this kind of incident shouldn't of happened in the first place. read more

Terrible!!! Went on a Saturday night with my husband and another couple. Made reservations two weeks earlier. We needed the dining room. My husband recently had back surgery cannot sit on a high top. When we got there they sat us in the bar area on a high top. The table was a pub table designed for two people. What an uncomfortable dinner. We could not wait to leave. There was no room to eat. Our plates were actually touching each others. Also my husband could not sit on the high top. Very uncomfortable. When I brought this up to the hostess she just basically shrugged her shoulders. We did a fast dinner no apps or desert. We went elsewhere after for more drinks. Today I contacted the restaurant after my email was not answered. I spoke to a Dave who said he was the owner. He was rude and condescending. Did not care about my concerns. He just kept going on about how they seat people etc. I told him it was ver uncomfortable for four people to be at a table meant for two. I told him I am more comfortable at Mcdonald's He said he was insulted and hung up on me. So much for caring about customers. I called back to finish the conversation and got a giggly girl that made no sense, then she hu g up on me. What an unprofessional place. Giving it four stars because it's by far the best place in the area. That outside bar is awesome. It's in a strange part of this world, but you'll be surprised when you walk in and head to that patio. Also, I'm pretty sure there is a Russian massage parlor in the shopping center behind it. Amazing Italian food! They have lounge inside and a second lounge outside that is very nice for a happy hour or date! They start with typical bread and oil, we got the calamari and Brussels sprouts as an appetizer. Calamari was nice and fresh, they added cut peppers which was a nice touch! Brussels sprouts were fried with parmigiana so who wouldn't love it! The meals that we got was the rigatoni, the Sunday special and braised beef! all three dishes are 10/10 hands down. Rigatoni is in one of the best pink sauces, Sunday special was loaded and their marinara is sweet, braised beef was delicious, light on the sauce but meat was spectacular and tender! It was my birthday so we got tiramisu and the lemon torta for dessert! So so good! Stop in but make a reservation! read more

Still probably one of the worse restaurants in the North East , clearly the owner of this place doesn't care about the business. As a person who worked in the industry before , I called to explain my plight to the manager and he blatantly disregarded my concerns. Told me if I came back that he would comp some of ther check, I sent well over 200 dollars for a two top. The service was terrible waited for everythng, my food sat on the line while my waiter chatted up to some locals, came here upon a recommendation of a friend. He raved aboutthis place that it was just as good as any other cener city place. He is clearly mistaken. I got to about 5 new restaurants a month. Save you money. There are way better restaurants out there that will take great care of you. We went over the weekend for a birthday dinner. The food was excellent. The service was even better than excellent. The busboys were some of the hardest workers I have seen and I let them know it. They were quick to remove plates and replace silverware without being asked. Very helpful. Such a great experience. The whipped ricotta appetizer was delicious. The crab and cavatelli amazing. And the best filet mignon I've had in years. We can't wait to go back and get the pizza which looked delicious on the way out. Drinks were also amazing. read more

To start out, I booked a reservation quite a while ago for 6pm on a Friday night. The young lady behind the podium told us that she could only give us a high top because they were pushing other tables together to accomodate a larger party. I told her that we preferred a table, not a high top and that the reservation was made well in advance. She then asked me if I made the reservation on line which I did. She replied, "That's the problem. We can't guarantee a seat in the restaurant if you made your reservation on line." I never heard of anything so ridiculous. So three people were forced to sit in a high top in the bar area which was ridiculously loud. Then the waiter came over and we ordered drinks. When he brought the one guest's lemon martini he spilled it all over the table and apologized saying it was his "weak" hand. My first course I had to eat with sticky silverware. Another guest in the party ordered one of the salad specials. It never came but instead she was served her entree. That caused a second apology from the waiter. I ordered the Orecchiette pasta in pesto. It came out looking like a bowl of soup and it was bland. For spending $200 not including the tip I expected better ambiance, better food and better service; considering we were celebrating a close friend's one year recovery from stage four cancer, which we told the young lady about when she asked if we were celebrating something special. Macaroni's was such a fabulous experience. We were seated at the high stool area, in front of the bar, and it was fine. The restaurant is dimly lit, but it was nice. The restaurant is very clean and the bathrooms are very well maintained. We had the Kobe Beef Meatballs, Poached Pear Salad, and the Margherita Pizza. All three items were exquisitely delicious. I would have included a picture of the meatballs. but by the time I remembered to take a picture, half of them were down my gullet.... arrrgghhh. The pizza was one of the best that I've ever tasted..... and I've had many in NYC. What places this pizza over the top is how THIN it was prepared. That was such a nice touch and I've never had it that thin. Klyde was very hospitable and tended to us with professionalism and frequently asked how our meal was going. Well done, Macaroni's! Came here on a recommendation and it was a special day - wife's birthday so we went somewhere new. No pictures because it was rather dark inside and I didn't want to bother other patrons with my flash. Who knew there is true fine dining in Northeast Philadelphia? The restaurant has limited tables and I overheard staff mentioning that some customers were in their seats a little too long to able to get the turnover for those with reservations. Overall, my wife and I had a great experience at Macaroni's. All service staff were attentive and shared duties with our table in providing new silverware and removing old. Everyone was pleasant and we did not feel rushed. For food, we first shared the calamari and eggplant stack. The stack was lightly breaded and crispy with pieces of tomato and mozzarella in between. This was outstanding and we could have had a full meal of more of this. The calamari also was light and crispy with pieces of pepper and full slices of garlic. Wife wanted sauce (fine dining, so gravy?) with it but still liked it. There was an ample amount in the bowl to share. For salads, wife had a Caesar wedge which was a half romaine lettuce head with an anchovy and appeared to be box croutons. The dressing looked to be very heavy and overdone on the plate, but surprisingly was light and flavorful and not overbearing for the salad. I had a beet and goat cheese salad which was wonderful. Chunks of red and yellow beets with crunchy quinoa, flavorful orange slices, smooth goat cheese, and a small amount of greens. A great combination of textures and flavors. For our main courses, I went with lamb chops and wife had lobster ravioli. We were pretty much full before this came out, but we were still good to finish them all. My medium-rare lamb was spot on and came with a small fennel salad and a potato purée. I had to finish the chops with my hands which got me a look from the wife, "We're fine dining!" "I'm paying, so I'm finishing how I want." Wife's lobster ravioli also looked very heavy with the cream sauce, but surprise number two, was light and fresh. There was what she thought was orange within the dish, and turned out to be grapefruit. A very sweet grapefruit which added dimension to the pasta and sauce. The pasta was finished quickly and when I thought there was a leftover ravioli to try, she said it was just fennel. Oh well. I did try the sauce and it was pleasant and flavorful. The meal started with some bread and house-made peppers which hit the spot. We would have liked some Parmesan to go with the olive oil. We ended with some Cappuccino which was very strong. My Riesling was not dry which I like but I was not asked if I wanted a second which I would have purchased. It was a very reasonable $5. This is definitely not a go often restaurant. It's not a fun and boisterous place. It is a wonderful special occasion place with great food and service. $160 including tax and tip for two appetizers, two salads, two entrées, one wine, one tea, and one cappuccino. read more

I went to this restaurant a week ago on a Saturday evening and I had the worst experience of my life the service was horrible the food was terrible and the manager was rude disrespectful and arrogant he actually told me to get out the restaurant because I was unhappy with the warm water I was given the unflavored mussels that I was given I waited 45 minutes for my order to be taken and finally I asked to speak with a manager to complain about my food and my service I had a reservation for 7pm the young lady that was supposed to seat us walked pass and said while walking by I will be with you in a second left me and my husband standing there waiting when she did seat us we asked if we could move to a different table at the other end she said sure if you can move yourselves we are busy wow we waited 25 minutes before we were even given warm pitcher water the waiter came to us 35 minutes later to take our order it was about 755 at least I ordered salad that was all of the white part of the romaine lettuce absolutely disgusting taste I ordered mussels that took about 40 more minutes and they were room temperature I still had not received anything worth eating I saw people that came in and sat down after me eating finally by the was nothing my husband ordered was brought to the table yet I got the servers attention and asked for a manager to complain the salad was even disgusting I told the manager the manager said to me let me tell u how we do things around here if you order food rather you eat it or not you have to pay for it I said what are you saying he got a attitude and said our food is not nasty and don't come back here I said don't worry I won't he said get out I almost felt like I was treated like this because of the color of my skin because how could you feel like it's ok to talk to a customer in such a disgusting disrespectful was wow I will never return to this restaurant again and I said because of the color of my skin because most of the people who were there from what I could see was getting food drink there table was being checked on it looked like to me that the service was very good I had to try and get people attention I was told get out I was given less than deserved service I came to this restaurant and was treated horrible I never expected that from management and even when I was trying to ask for anything I was to just a second we are very busy tonight even the rude manager said we're busy tonight wow read more

My husband and I come here a lot. I usually make reservations but then we always end up sitting at or around the bar. We've also gone to the outside bar, which is a nice change sometimes. Either are a lovely atmosphere and the service has always been impeccable. First and foremost, they make the best Espresso Martini in Philadelphia. They give bread and peppers for the table...always delicious. Between the two of us, we've gotten many different dishes on the menu and everything is amazing. However, I've had the lamb the last few times because it's the best I've had in the entire NE. Always cooked perfectly and the only thing I won't share. I brought my husband here for his 50th and our server noticed, brought us an incredible spread of desserts and took a nice photo of us that I didn't complain about. Always a pleasure. read more

If you're in the Northeast looking for a nice Italian spot, look no further than macaronis (not to be mistaken with the "macaroni grill" chain). This is one of my favorite local restaurants with a great ambience, wonderful servers, and delicious food. I have tried many dishes; the burrata salad is my absolute favorite app, and I love their rigatoni vodka and I add shrimp. They have a great outdoor bar that is heated with a lot of outdoor seating options, which I personally prefer when it's nice out. I had one incident where the server accidentally threw away my leftovers, but generally I've always had excellent and attentive servers. The portions are average size and pricing is in the mid-high range if you're getting drinks/apps/desserts, so we tend to go here more for special dinner celebrations or date nights and always enjoy ourselves. They do get busy, so calling ahead to make a reservation is a good idea, especially on the weekend. read more

My fiancee & I will be getting married in September and chose Macaroni's to have her bridal shower this upcoming July. We booked the venue with deposit a couple a months ago. However, Macaroni's told us recently that they'd need to 'cancel' due to renovations in the restaurant which made us have to scramble to find a new venue at the last minute. We had already sent out invitations and spend over $150 doing so. All Macaroni's did to rectify the situation was send us the deposit back and an apology on a piece of loose-leaf paper. Pretty tone deaf if you ask me. Safe to say they wont be getting any of my business any time soon read more

First, the food is good. Our table of 5 - 3 adults, 2 kids -- ordered the charcuterie plate to start, which had a nice selection of meats, cheese & condiments. Great olive mix. Needed a few more crackers. They had a special salad of wild mushrooms, mixed greens and burrata, which was very good, if a little over-dressed. My mom has that as entree. They did not hear me order it, so there was some scrambling & my main was held back. We ordered calamari for the kids, but didn't get it. Evidently they didn't hear that order either. We had plenty of food though. Entrees were: cheese pizza for kid 1, which was big and looked good. Penne with butter for kid 2, which arrived tepid and without the Parmesan he ordered. It took them a little while to bring it out. Other adult got the Rigatoni alla Norma, which he loved. I got the halibut special which was perfectly cooked and delicious, although the vegetables were unremarkable. Portions were all appropriate for the price points. Dinner was just under $200. We skipped dessert and soft drinks. I'm not a drinker, but they have a full bar. My mom got a Montepulciano that she enjoyed. I knocked off stars for atmosphere and the ordering mix-ups. The atmosphere is not good. My kids were like, "This looks like a meeting room." The lighting is awful, and the music too loud for what it was (bad--added nothing). For a place with entrees $22 and up, I expect tablecloths, maybe some fresh flowers. It's really drab. The tables are Formica wood and look scuffed and not clean. This place could offer a really fine experience. I hope the owner, who served us, and is super nice, gives his talented chef and loyal customers a place that looks and feels as good as his cuisine. As is, the food is really good. I would try it again if I felt like I wanted to be there. read more

Our food was decent but overall for the price point we were very underwhelmed. We made reservations for a Saturday evening knowing it would be busy then we still had to wait 30+ minutes to be seated. Even with the reservation they tried to seat us in the bar at one of the basically mini tables instead of honoring our reservation. For a place that I'm sure is packed often it was surprising they had nowhere to sit while waiting to be seated. The filet mignon special was good, but overpriced. The drinks were tasty and strong. The bread and peppers and OO they gave our table were just not for us, it was very bland and some butter would've been nice. The cheesecake was grainy but the fruit sauce was good on top. The pistachio cheesecake was not good and tasted like overly sweet pistachios and marshmallows. The best part of the entire dinner was the garlic mashed potatoes. At the end of our meal we asked our server for the check and gave her it to process but while we waited another server (who had dropped things off and boxed up our leftovers) appeared and tried to give us a second check which I've never seen happen. Maybe it was the day we chose or the time but the vibe was off and it wasn't impressive for almost $300 for two people. Probably won't be back. read more

Honestly heard so much about this restaurant and it was all really good things, so I was excited to try, but unfortunately I wasn't too impressed. Maybe the hype made me go in expecting more than I should have, but for the price point of the restaurant I definitely think the food should be better. I ordered a steak which was quite dry and over cooked and the mashed potatoes weren't anything special. Serving sizes also seemed to be a bit small. Ordered shrimp and crab cocktail appetizer and I honestly had to laugh at the serving size. When I entered I requested outside seating and I had a reservation on Open Table with an outside seating option selected but the hostess told me all seats were booked while I watched 3 empty tables stay empty for the entire evening. Appetizer took 33 minutes to arrive. A couple that arrived 10 minutes after us had a full table by the time we got our appetizer. We got the Mozzarella corroza that didn't have much seasoning and a lot of oil, not a distinctive taste, more like a soggy wonderbread with mozzarella sticks in mediocre marinara sauce. The entrees made up for the unimpressive appetizer. The filet mignon steak was impeccable (I would recommend this over the other two dishes), chicken parmigiana was pretty good and the bolognese was complex and delicious. Have had better but no distinct complaints on any of the entree dishes. The pinot noir was really dry and delicious, my sister had two cocktails, one blueberry and another Margarita, both were good but a bit too sweet for my taste, overall would recommend ordering them with less syrup to those who don't like sweet drinks. The waitress was sweet and friendly, nothing exceptional but no complaints either. The house music was so loud throughout the whole evening our throats were hurting at the end of the evening from screaming over it (this is also why We would have preferred to sit at the outside seats). Overall experience was 3.5/5. I was debating between rating a 3 or a 4 but went with the lower end of the spectrum due to this being the first of many (across different states and countries) Italian restaurants I've been to that didn't serve bread with olive oil or even butter as a starter. read more
