When I entered I requested outside seating and I had a reservation on Open Table with an outside seating option selected but the hostess told me all seats were booked while I watched 3 empty tables stay empty for the entire evening. Appetizer took 33 minutes to arrive. A couple that arrived 10 minutes after us had a full table by the time we got our appetizer. We got the Mozzarella corroza that didn't have much seasoning and a lot of oil, not a distinctive taste, more like a soggy wonderbread with mozzarella sticks in mediocre marinara sauce. The entrees made up for the unimpressive appetizer. The filet mignon steak was impeccable (I would recommend this over the other two dishes), chicken parmigiana was pretty good and the bolognese was complex and delicious. Have had better but no distinct complaints on any of the entree dishes. The pinot noir was really dry and delicious, my sister had two cocktails, one blueberry and another Margarita, both were good but a bit too sweet for my taste, overall would recommend ordering them with less syrup to those who don't like sweet drinks. The waitress was sweet and friendly, nothing exceptional but no complaints either. The house music was so loud throughout the whole evening our throats were hurting at the end of the evening from screaming over it (this is also why We would have preferred to sit at the outside seats). Overall experience was 3.5/5. I was debating between rating a 3 or a 4 but went with the lower end of the spectrum due to this being the first of many (across different states and countries) Italian restaurants I've been to that didn't serve bread with olive oil or even butter as a starter. read more

Now I understand why this restaurant has such poor service ratings!! This restaurant came highly recommended to me by a current patron of the restaurant. I ordered a gift card over the phone on June 28th in which the restaurant promptly charged my banking account for the amount. This was for a birthday party to take place on July 17th. I thought plenty of time, so I ordered it more than two weeks early so I could have it in time. After not receiving the gift card on July 6th (gave it an extra day due to no mail on the 5th) I called the restaurant only to be advised that they were backed up and it was mailed out to me. OK, so I wait another week and as of July 12th still no gift card!! I call the restaurant again only to be advised by some manager that they have no record of me ordering a gift card over the phone for $250.00!! I was asked to provide a copy of the receipt for the purchase and I advised the only receipt I have was the charge on my bank statement and I was advised they do not normally take gift card orders over the phone - but they did when I called and charged my account!! Finally she remembers the gift card and said it was mailed earlier and they have no control over the slow mail delivery. I advised that if I don't receive it by Friday, July 16th I will need to cancel the card and get a refund in which I was advised they do not do that!! This whole experience was extremely frustrating to say the least especially since I ordered the gift card in excess of two weeks when I needed it!! Finally, today Friday, July 16th the gift card arrives in the mail with a POST MARK DATE OF JULY 14, 2021!!!!!!! It only took (2) days for me to receive it once it was mailed so why was I lied to on several occasions!?!?!?! Please be more honest with your patrons and admit when you messed up when you did and don't try and cover it up by lying and saying it was already mailed or the mail service is slow! Stopped by this place after a quick search on Yelp. 1) Place was clean and welcoming. The lighting is a bit dark. 2) Waiter was Friendly, helpful, and attentive. 3) We ordered several dishes to try and share. This cold cuts plate was delicious. The olives were good, Prosciutto was okay, other meats and cheeses were good. Tomatoes were okay. Shrimp and crab plate was good. Fish plate was delicious. Drinks were okay. Have been to this restaurant many times and my boyfriend is a regular who goes several times a month. Will not be going back again after the horrible service last night. To begin with, the bartender (the one with her entire leg tattooed) was absolutely rude. Barely acknowledged us and a curt tone. We ordered an app, and 2 entrees as well as cocktails. When they served our bread they told us "we are out of peppers" (it was only 6:15 on Sunday so it was surprising they'd be out of peppers)....but we started seeing other diners being served peppers. When the bartender came back to clean up the spot next to me I said politely "excuse me, miss" she didn't even look at me and dismissively said "I'll be with you in a moment" (it wasn't what she said it was the tone)...when she finally came over, I explained that we were told there were no peppers. She served us 2 small ones. When we finished those I asked for more and was again dismissively told "we're out"....it took well over an hour for our entrees to arrive. Many many people were commenting about the long wait time...we would have spoken to the manager but a friend of ours who was there did and he told her we're busy tonight. To add insult to injury when the bill came they added an automatic 20% to the bill for gratuity. They didn't highlight the automatic gratuity and we almost tipped on top of that (for horrible service). We were a party of TWO!! It's offensive to have tip auto added for such a small party (and we frequently tip over 20% for good service). And to not have the automatic gratuity be highlighted. I'm very concerned that we've now been double tipping for a while without realizing it. They were busy- I can understand and relate from my prior experience with being a server...but kindness and communication, an apology for the delay (something- anything, to make up for the wait goes a long way)...and rudeness is just NOT acceptable. We've literally easily spent well over $1000 at this place in the last 6 months. Will not be going back again. You've lost a regular income stream. read more

For apps we got lobster bisque, mozzarella e carrozza, and the charcuterie and cheese board. Not a single complaint about any of the apps. All were excellent. Dinner items ordered were lamb chops, frutti fi mare x 2 and Chilean sea bass. Portions were plentiful and everything came out perfect. No complaints there either. We all ordered desserts and the only complaint on the dessert side was that the cheesecake was still slightly frozen when served. Wasn't really worth complaining about considering everything else was great and it's the only reason this was a 5 star review. People know I can eat and I still had to have part of my entree boxed up so I'd have room for dessert. * It's small inside? So what? It's not like the tables are small and tight, its just that they don't have that many tables. I guess that means there might be a wait. Trust me, its worth it! No doubt, Macaroni is a high end Italian house just off Old Bustleton Avenue in Northeast Philly, with cool dim lighting, modern appointments, black and white service and outdoor pergola for al fresco drinks and dining. Atmosphere is hushed and romantic. Settling in comes with a full plate of hopeful excitement that a special moment is on the way. And, it almost is. Our sauteed long hot pepper table tapas was great, but the bread past its prime, and dry. The calamari fritti was excellent with perfect deep frying and plenty of sliced hot peppers. The chicken parmesan was hugh and delicious, while the cavatelli and crab used shellfish no longer fresh and sweet, but fishy like it was a day too old. Finally, the bronzino special was two whole fish fillets in skin that was soft and tender, but plated with a bland mushroom accompaniment and too mild tawny sauce that left the tongue wanting more flavor. At $37, it was a deep water disappointment. Most of us work hard for our money and don't like giving it away for a mezza mezza meal. With as many ups and downs as experienced at Macaroni, someone needs to call them on their "emperor's new clothes" reality. If they want to be special and charge premium dollars for the privilege of a table, they need alot more consistency and a bit less pretension. read more

Need a happy hour excuse? Here it is! A coworker and I had the privilege of checking out the out back area, patio and bar (pictures attached). Not included in the photos is a spectacular seating area that includes comfortable furniture. The bar area includes multiple TVs, great amount of space and a full cocktail and bar menu. We started off with margaritas, mine being from the cocktail menu. The watermelon margarita... it was good. Enough to order twice!! for food we did the Fraser salad to share, calamari and burrata pizza. If you are looking for fast food at a nicer place then I suppose this is your place. It would have been more enjoyable if everything came out a bit slower and possibly one at a time instead of in 10 mins all at once. The food was nothing to write home about the calamari should have had some sort of a dipping sauce to accompany it, but was good. The Cesar salad was average, the pizza was good just way to much olive oil to the point it made it. Soggy, again why it would have been nice to have everything separate. Overall I give the food a 3.8 but the location and atmosphere a 5 bringing my review to a solid 4. read more

I've been here a few times. I have never had a meal that I didn't like. I do feel that they are pricier than I'd like. Lunch offers pizza, which is great! I ordered the Stella, which is pictured below. It had sausage crumbles, arugula, and cherry tomatoes. I would also highly recommend the pasta dishes. All the sauces are light and fresh and the pasta always has a nice al dente bite to it. Pleasantly surprised. I lived in the Northeast section of Philly for about a year and a half and never came across this place. The decor was nice and atmosphere inside was very relaxed. Our servers during the meal were also very attentive. I attended a sit down retirement luncheon here and we were served ceasar salad, chicken parmigiana, beef bolognese, salmon, potatoes, spinach and this delicious creme brulee cheesecake made with gelato. I enjoyed all of the food especially the salad and creme brulee cheesecake. I am not even a huge ceasar salad fan but that dressing was amazing and the cheesecake was phenomenal. My only complaint is the getting a drink at the bar in the other room was a bit slow as there was only one bartender with a crowd of about 15 of us. I also believe I was overcharged for my bottle of hard tea. The menu said $4 and I was charged $5. Of course $1 is no big deal but if everyone is charged extra that will add up. I love coming to Macaroni's, it's a great spot any day of the week (except Mondays they are closed) The outdoor patio P Squared is super chill and there's an addition menu. Inside is fine dining and a lounge//bar area. For large parties they also offer family style dining if planned in advance. The food and service is great across the board!! For starters you'll get their slow roasted peppers. They're amazing I could eat them all day and I'd be happy. The specials are always unique and flavorful, along with a solid Italian menu you can count on. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, be sure to pay attention when they verbally list those specials! Every time I come I try to get something different. Lately I've been on an Autumn salad kick, it's just so good and since it's seasonal I wanna get it while I can! I got a steak and ordered it medium well and it came out a little too rare for my liking but it wasn't a deal breaker. The one thing that bothered me was the price!
