Having grown up with a neighbor (who was like a second grandmother) fresh off the boat from Naples who fed me a great deal of food in my childhood, I would say my expectations for authentic Italian cuisine are pretty high. Zaccone's Restaurant is definitely a little gem here in Northeast Philly. This sure isn't the Olive Garden (thank Jesus)! Every meal has been incredibly satisfying--the eggplant parm, the chicken piccata, and the tortellini in pink sauce with pancetta are just a couple highlights that come to mind over many dinners. The dessert, especially the canolli, is top notch and often made by Mamma Zaccone herself. Not only is the food exceptional, but the ambiance is as well. This is a small family business here in the Northeast, and you are treated as such. I am glad to see that there is a family making authentic Italian food here in this pocket of the Northeast. Our neighborhood actually has a lot of restaurants with various authentic cuisine, and this is one of them. You will not be rushed as you dine, and can really enjoy the company of the people you are with, which I feel is part of what makes a great dining experience. Make yourself a reservation - the family is very accommodating and they work this place on their own, so the heads up for your party is well appreciated, I am sure. Their hard work is evident. I have eaten here quite a few times before and when my husband and I walked in there were five empty tables and they asked if we had reservations we told them no and they sat us . Menus given and then they walked away. No came to our table for 20 minutes and that was to ask us to move to a different table . When 4 other tables were empty. We got up and left . We've had their bruschetta, mussels in white sauce, veal genovese, gnocchi with Alfredo and sausage, chicken parm, meatballs, eggplant parm, penne rapini, and a few other dishes. Everything is delicious. The best eggplant Parm and gnocchi I've ever had. The tiramisu is everything. The only reason I'm giving four and not five stars, the staff. Not friendly at all. This past Saturday they dropped the check before even asking if we wanted dessert. A few people in my party did want dessert so I went up and ask if we could order dessert. She said to go? No for here. It was 830, the restaurant closes at nine, we weren't holding anybody up. Nonetheless I would still go back because the food is good and I can deal with that. We hadn't been there in a while. I made a reservation. Food was good, as always, but I think the place has gone downhill. Maybe that's why it wasn't crowded on a recent Saturday night. Bread and butter arrived first, however, one butter packet had been opened and was half gone. We were seated near the front window. The window sill was covered in dead bugs! Obviously hadn't been cleaned recently. If the public area is that dirty, I wonder how clean the rest of the restaurant is. A real turn off. It's a shame but we will not be back. read more

My excitement quickly turned to disappointment almost instantaneously. The prices were pretty outrageous, and the portions tiny. I ordered the lobster ravioli...5 ravioli on the plate, $25 for the plate...$5 per ravioli??? Really? Oh, and there was no lobster, I dissected one to confirm my suspicions. The service was bad. It's so quaint you almost feel like Mom is in the kitchen cooking. Zaccone's is a LITTLE PLACE - maybe 10 tables - so you might want to get here early/late. Full disclosure: I worked for about a year in high school at Zaccone's. Having said that, it has been 6 years since then and I still make it a point to go up to my old stomping grounds in the northeast to eat there. Take it from me: Everything is fresh. This place is exactly how the stars rate it "meh. i've had better" I used to live on Cottman Ave for 10 years until I moved and I always saw this place while I lived there. So on 10/19/2014, my boyfriend and I decided to check it out, seeing how "awesome" this place was rated on here. So here's what happened: We we seated first as a table of 5 were waiting for the waitress to gather the tables together,while her manager who just said "hello" to us and continued to eat his pasta by the door. Good team work, bud. As soon as we were seated, the waitress sat the party of 5 and took their order. Funny, we were seated first. We waited ten minutes until she came over to ask us what we wanted to drink. When she came back, she handed me my iced tea, which looked like it was from the bottom of the barrel. I ordered the Veal Genovese, which is just veal francaise with crab meat on top. What I got? Two VERY THIN veal patties that looked like they came from up the street at the Four Seasons diner. I realized that there was no "crab meat" on top of my soup of veal (I say this because of how small the portion was and how much of the sauce they gave me) so I informed my waitress as soon as she placed my plate on the table. I asked her where the crab meat was. She replied "it's mixed in there." So i began to eat the first patty and realized that they jipped me of the crab completely. I didn't want to cause a scene but I was paying $22.00 for this "plate", so I said something to the kitchen manager. She was really nice and apologetic and quickly brought me out a bowl of what was, to me, imitation crab meat. YUCK. My boyfriends plate of $17.00 consisted of penne pasta, half of a sausage chopped up which was mixed with some veggies. Ooo lala. The sausage soup was really good, but had no sausage in it. Fantastic. Also, don't bother with the bruschetta. It is served on the SAME roll you are served while you wait for your meal. I thought it was supposed to be served on a smaller, DIFFERENT type of bread than what they give you while you wait for your meal. Waste of $6.00, just stick with the bread you get while you wait. I wouldn't recommend going here. It's WAY to overpriced for what they offer you. I could get better dinner served at the diner up the street for half the price they are offering. read more

One night, i was on my way home from class and didn't want to stop at any of the fast food places along cottman, head up the Roosevelt Boulevard, or go as far as even 10 minutes from home. All of a sudden it hit me! I never tried that little place Zaccone's which is 2 minutes away from me. First of all, this place is BYO, but i forgot to bring a bottle, so they gave us glasses of their complimentary house wine. Not bad. The special of the night was Lobster Ravioli and Salmon with crab meat in a basil cream sauce. Both entrees were phenomenal, and the Lobster Ravioli was the best I have ever tried. I could definitely tell it was homemade. The salads that come with the entrees are nothing to rave about, but the creme brulee cake i had for dessert was. It was spectacular. The prices were a little steep, but when i feel like having a good-quality dish and not driving to the city for it, I will come here. I had the best lobster ravioli and Tiramisu ever here tonight. I highly recommend this place. Reasonably priced and tasty. Just remember they are cash only. Tonight was our third time having dinner at Zaccones and we have not been disappointed. We started with caprese salad that was fresh and light. For entree my wife and guest had Flounder Genovese off the main menu while I had the Flat iron steak w/mash and asparagus from the special board we all enjoyed our meals the food was tasty and cooked to perfection for deserts we had tiramisu,strawberry shortcake and a pear cake with a ganache topping all of which are made in house by the mother of this family owned and operated restaurant. The staff was very helpful and personable especially "Theresa" with any questions we had. I don't usually write reviews but saw some previous comments I didn't agree with. Had dinner here with my mom on a snowy Saturday night. The place is small and cozy and given the weather almost empty. We both got the salmon with crab and it was delicious. Perfectly cooked salmon, the crab and sauce was delicious, included asparagus and mashed potatoes. I didn't like the house salad - chunks of white Iceberg lettuce, not ripe tomatoes, blah - but the bread and olive oil were good. Really disappointed that they ran out of several desserts including the tiramisu. We thought the prices were very reasonable and will certainly come back again. read more

So after years of passing by, and hearing great things, i finally decided to stop in for a meal. So this was a first date, yelp says no to reservations, but when we walked in that was the question, not hello or welcome, but do you have a reservation? Luckily we brought wine which they opened directly for us to drink, otherwise we would've waited over 5 minutes for water. The seating situation it's really tight, so if your looking for privacy for a first date, it's probably not the place. The serving staff was very pleasant but kinda slow. We started out with some bruschetta which was just ok. My date had the chicken picatta which she really enjoyed. I had veal saltimbocca which was awesome and the only reason I'm giving 3 stars. I said I have a reservation she said what name I told her and she sat us .. So she takes the drink order and waters come then a good 30 minutes goes by and my b.f. said this is unbelievable and goes up to the counter and said we have been sitting for over 30 mins with no menus .Not an apology nothing from the ignorant girl behind the counter.. So the waitress finally comes over and says do you know what you want ? I said know what we want we have no menus in front of us how could we possibly know ‍‍‍ So she brings them and then again 20 mins later she comes back .. We place the order and food comes .. 45 mins later .. Ridiculous.. The food was DISGUSTING... I had chicken Marsala, my b.f. had Alfredo something maybe chicken .. Well the chicken marsala was diner quality at best terrible.. My b.f.' had a long black hair in it and it wasn't on top it was buried in the alfredo sauce .. He told I assume the owner an older guy ..He told him look there is a hair in my food I don't want this .The guy said nothing and just looked at him .Not an omg apology nothing ..Says I'll get a new one in 10 mins which turned into 25 .. My b.f. got 3 sodas which were 3 bucks each ..Well the lady there took a dollar off each one cause of the hair in the food she said .. But still had to pay for the Alfredo with hair in it .. My b.f. questioned the charge for the soads she said we are a family owned business and no free refills here and that's a wrap ..She was arguing with him beyond which was totally disrespectful and ignorant.. . I cannot stop thinking about our fantastic/delicious dinners had there last Thursday night. Zaccone's is simply a true gem in the northeast and definitely will be a regular family spot now. Zaccone's Restaurant is by far one of the best in the city. When you first enter, you are greeted with a warm welcome by either one of the waitresses or Nona. They honestly treat you like you're one of the family. The place has a very warm atmosphere; as if you are visiting family for dinner. That, however is not the best beat part. Each dish they make is simply amazing, especially the Penne Arabiata, my absolute favorite. Every time my wife and I discuss going to Zaccone's, I am always looking forward to it. First time here. My friends brought me here for my birthday dinner. We are a large group and love byob's. We had reservations and were seated immediately. We ordered multiple appetizers for the group. Though a little on the small side they were very good. The caprese was fresh and I loved the bread the bruschetta was on. We also had clams, mussels and the hot seafood appetizer, very good as well. Dinner was delicious. I had the Flounder Genovese. The fish was perfectly cooked and the sauce very flavorful. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The food makes this place worthy of four stars but what kills it is the service. We had to get our server's attention and call her over when we needed something. We were not given bread for our table as were the tables around us. Not once did our server come over to see how everything was though at one point, she made a sales pitch for skincare products! Props to the young busboy who kept our water glasses filled and our wine bottles opened. I will definitely give this restaurant another shot because I really enjoyed my food. When we first pulled up, we didn't know what we were getting ourselves into. Once we walked in, it was very clean. There were two waitresses there; Theresa and another young girl at the front. The young girl was not too welcoming at first. She did not greet my best friend and I until the manager or owner came out of the kitchen to tell her to do so but he noticed us right on the spot so it wasn't long. It would've been nice if she didn't have to be told to acknowledge us. While seating us, she did not make any eye contact at all. For a whole we thought it had something to do our skin tone. After being seated, Theresa our actual waitress came over to us and had a smile and personality that lit up a room. LOVE HER! She made sure my best friend and I had everything we needed and was well taken care off. She was very personable and I really enjoyed talking to her while being waited on. The inside of the place is so comfortable and is suitable for a family dinner or date night. The food was good and fresh! They allowed me to make up my own pasta dish.
