Bad service. For the past 36 years I've never left a restaurant without leaving at least 10% tip, until today. The service was terrible. We were seated at at table with full sun. They were saving the tables with shade for other customers. By the time we had finished eating, no one had come to sit at the tables with shade. My elderly parents felt unwell (it was a hot sunny day and they were sitting in full sun). There are so many great restaurants in Ashland, you don't need to put up with rude, incompetent and malicious service. True, it's 4th of July. Advice, close your restaurant if you aren't going to be nice to your customers because they annoy you and you'd rather be having a 4th of July party. read more

I ordered ravioli with marinara sauce. It came with soup, which was almost as good as the main dish. The tomato sauce was medium-thick, and the dish was prepared nicely. There was a large selection of wines, some very expensive, but I decided to pass on the alcohol. The dish was just the right size, not too much, not too little, and I felt content with the meal. Eating at Martino's is an elegant start to any evening in Ashland. We love the theater in Ashland and had beautiful dinners before our evening performances at the Orevon Shakespeare theaters. It is Italian cuisine at its finest. read more

I have been coming to Martino's forever! I like the ambiance of eating on the patio in the summer. It is attractive and right in the middle of the theatre action. Eat at Martino's and you will not be stressed getting to your play on time. Just park, have a leisurely dinner and a glass of wine, and stroll a few yards to the theatre. As for the food, I really enjoy their pizza and chicken dishes. Service is good and they will accept special requests. I keep going back for the friendly servers, the patio, and the food. read more

My wife and I recently visited Martino's for lunch. It had been about a year since we stopped being fairly regular customers. We stopped going to Martino's after coming one night for its steadily advertised "spaghetti night." We had ordered spaghetti, along with drinks, etc. When the bill came, the the spaghetti entrees showed the regular price. We pointed this out, only to be told that we should have told the server we wanted the "special" spaghetti, which apparently was a smaller portion. (Do you remember when a "special" used to refer to a reduced price rather than a reduced product?) The advertising said nothing about a smaller portion or otherwise different spaghetti and nothing about notifying the server. Although the restaurant corrected the tab to the advertised price, we felt this was a scam -- both with smaller portions and unwitting customers paying the full price. But we thought we'd give Martino's another chance. We tried a late lunch and chose the very nice and nearly vacant rear patio. We ordered drinks and each ordered an entree from the lunch menu (salmon ravioli and Mediterranean capellini). We were enjoying the afternoon outing until our food arrived, and we each received a small bowl of our entree. No salad, no bread, no nothing except a small serving of the entree. We ate (the food was decent if not memorable), settled the $40 tab, and picked up a pizza on our way home. Last time we'll visit Martino's. read more

If you're a theater nerd and you want to rub elbows with the cast after your show, Martino's bar (upstairs) is the place to be. We sat at the bar and enjoyed Irish coffees while noting the entrance of "Brutus" and others from the play we'd just seen. The bartender helped us confirm our sightings. Great fun! read more

I live in Ashland and hadn't been to Macaronis in years. Stopped in for a calzone on a Tuesday evening. Ordered mine with sausage and no peppers. After an unusually long wait, my calzone arrived loaded with peppers and huge chunks of red onion but devoid of any trace of sausage. I informed the waitress and she said she'd take care of it on the bill. I picked through the calzone, eating very little. When the bill came, the charge for the calzone was reduced 60%. I felt any charge was too much to pay for such poor quality food. Based on the quality of the food served and the chintzy adjustment offered, I will never return to Marcaronis. read more

It was a cold winter night and I was hungry for ciopino. It was not a good choice as the base was very thick while tomatoes right out of the can. Half the dish were onions. The seafood was tasteless and in small pieces. No calamari. The bread was toasted, not grilled so it didn't add any flavor. It is a nice place but maybe you should stick with one of their mor basic Italian dishes. read more

We had a wonderful dinner here last night. Didn't have reservations but someone didn't show up so we got right in. Delicious fresh food. We were hot and tired and they squeezed us in even though they were booked which we really appreciated. My seafood caesar salad with prawns and salmon hit the spot and I would rate it a 4. My husband's cioppino was good but just average; served with a broth, not a tomato sauce. Ambiance was quite pleasant. The wine was good but not great. I first came to this restaurant with my mom when we were in Ashland checking out the college. Now that I've lived in the area for 2.5 years, this is my choice restaurant for special occasions. Anytime my parents visit, which isn't that often, I make them take me here and we often are remembered by the dark/curly haired women who works on the upper level. When I brought friends here for my birthday, the waiter overheard us talking about it and brought over a birthday dessert which was very tasty. They make excellent drinks - when the bartender knows how to make a blueberry kamikaze, they're the best. Food is always solid. We always order the Crostini Misti as a starter - tasty, inexpensive, and good unique flavors. I'm always too full to order dessert, but I've heard rumors that their tiramisu is the best in the valley. Can't wait to try it. The balcony patio on the upper floor has a great view while not being to loud and they have heaters for when it gets a bit chilly. Great location just a few doors down from the plaza. Only thing that bothers me about this place is that I can never get a straight answer as to why the two floors are completely separate and even have separate names. read more

In the past we always ordered the same entrees. Now they have a new menu which still has my favorite (Seafood Cesar Salad with shrimp and salmon - still very good) but no longer has my husband's favorite pasta. So today he ordered another pasta which was tasteless and low on pasta. Mostly had tomatoes with no seasoning. The bread was a day old. My margarita was mediocre. Very disappointing. There are too many excellent restaurants in Ashland. This one just fell off our list. read more

My wife and I had been traveling (and sightseeing) throughout Oregon virtually all day and arrived in Ashland after dark but still during the dinner hour. We were famished and tired and looking for some real pick up and a nice meal. We had never been to Ashland before so we were shooting in the dark as far as restaurants go. Wanting a filling meal though Italian seemed like the best remedy. We came across Macaroni's and decided to give it a try. We came away full and very satisfied. Our waitress, Emilia (together with the hostess) were very friendly and quick to take our order. I had chicken parmigiana (and a cup of minestrone) and my wife had cioppino (with a house salad). The bread brought to the table was fresh and enjoyable. My soup was of the homemade variety and nicely tomatoee. My wife enjoyed her salad and the house dressing. She loved her cioppino and my chicken parm was better the the standard variety found in many italian restaurants...and again with a very nice tomatoee sauce. Tonight this charming town with frosted hills in December is an off season secret. The businesses are decorated for the holidays with lights slightly askew reminds one this small town charm. The windy and ice cold weather called for soup in this private, cozy establishment. Tonight's special, pasta fagioli, seemed to hit the spot. The soup came toasty warm, but the beans were slightly under cooked. The yummy bread paired well with the soup. The seafood Caesar came with a piece of grilled salmon and skewered shrimp. The salmon was moist and perfectly cooked. The grilled shrimp were almost over cooked, dry, but not tough. Overall, the salad was delicious. It had the right amount of dressing without being overwhelmed. The serving size was more than generous. The waitress was attentive and courteous. read more

Martino's was a fun place with great food. We went to Pasta Piatti the night before and Martino's was much better. The staff was great! I had the lobster ravioli and enjoyed it very much! The salad was great as well. Husband recommends the salmon pasta. read more

My son and I are from Healdsburg and have made the trip up to Ashland to enjoy the Oregon Shakespeare Festival every Summer for 20 years. Although Macaron's is one of Ashland's older restaurants we did not try it until our favorite restaurant closed last year. We were delighted to find excellent food and service a few steps away from the theaters at this charming restaurant. Also the prices are more reasonable than our old favorite. While the staff were friendly, service was slow, food was cold and the quality was not up to the $150 tab. Kind of disappointing after looking forward to this all year. This place was awful. The food quality was just ridiculously bad. Our six year old son was really hungry but turned his nose up at the pizza after tasting it. I went there the night i got engaged. I was so happy I didnt want to say anything and ruin my night but the silverware was dirty! I got a bottle of wine and wasnt carded. which is weird because I have such a baby face I'm carded everywhere I go. It seemed really low class, yet when i got the bill it was outrageous.
