This restaurant makes me want to cry. We came in for dinner the restaurant layout is nice and big. Staff was friendly but wasn't very drink knowledgeable. I ordered the beef but has pork also added tamales with your basic red sauce they didn't come out hot I'm not sure why? It wasn't like I had to wait for the crunchy, over cooked rice to finish cooking or anything. Awful service/wait times. Other locations are great, but this one is horrible. I've been to this one about four times. The first time was fine, but every time after just got worse. One visit we sat at a table forever while the servers walked right past us; it took 20 minutes before we even got a drink. My most recent visit was by the far worst because I ended up leaving. Absolutely LOVE McCayo's. Been coming to their various locations for many years. They have been a stable in the Valley since 1946! This new location replaces the old Native New Yorker close to the Harkins theater. The staff was friendly. We were seated fast on a Saturday afternoon. The server was on top of it checking in often. The menu was just like at any of the other locations not scaled back and tasted the same. Ambiance is minimal but this place is more for the food. read more

Service was okay, but things kept getting worse from the dirty glass and silverware and horrible food. The rice was crunchy from being stored and reheated. The drinks had a moldy taste and the husband's beer was flat. My "top shelf" margarita tasted like a well and when you mess up alcohol that' says a lot. We went here trying to give the restaurant an opportunity after many years of great memories at the original location but it was a fail. Good looked old and tasted bland. My husband and I were seated right away. It was not that crowded on a Saturday night (7:45ish). We were given chips and salsa and our drink orders were taken right away. We waited about 10 minutes before someone came to take our food order. The food was hot when it came out, however, my beef chimichanga had very little sauce and a drizzle of Baja sauce. The "enchilada" sauce tasted like tomato sauce. It has a very sour and bland taste at the same time. The shredded beef inside the chimichanga had almost zero flavor. The beans were watery and had a very odd taste. My food was inedible and I've never had that experience before at Macayo's. We had never been to that location before. Friday night , it wasn't that busy , say at the bar had a couple of beers , cold beer that a good thing, chips and salsa were ok , chips were warm , salsa wasn't that good, order the green chilli pork , was ok nothing great , beans were very dry , have a small taste didn't like them . I hadn't been to a Macayo's in years (I always preferred the ones in Tucson to Phoenix) -- well before they sold out to private equity (they had made changes to the menu I wasn't too keen on). The food quality is not what it used to be. While nothing was bad, the best things were the chips, salsa, and chimichanga shredded beef. The enchilada sauce was not very exciting. The cheese crisp wasn't what it used to be. The cheese didn't taste like the same quality cheddar they used to use. Anyway, it's not bad, service was good, but it's not what it used to be. read more

We were sat a table that the salt and pepper shakers were on chair, no silverware or napkins, and I think the hostess forgot to mention there was someone at the table. So we ordered drinks, they brought the chips and salsa, still no plates or silverware or napkins. I had to ask for napkins and they brought plasticware. They set up for a large party and gave them all silverware. No party showed up while we were there. Our forks kept breaking and they finally took the silverware off a table no one was at. We came for lunch here on President's Day. The one we usually go to by our house was closed so we figured we would try the newer one that opened by Costco. Big mistake. When we got there no one was at the front to greet us. There were about 4 groups that waited to see if someone would come seat us. We looked for someone and finally was told they would seat us shortly. It took about 10 minutes despite only a few tables being taken. We were told everyone was working on a big catering order when we were finally seated. It took quite awhile for someone to wait on us but she did arrive with apologies. She took our order from the lunch menu and we waited and waited for our food. When the food arrived, 2 of our 3 items were wrong and it took awhile to flag our server down. My mom sent hers back but my dad kept his because at this point he was very hungry and starting to get low blood sugar. My mom's remake took about 15 minutes and by that time my dad and I were done with our food. Thankfully she had accidentally brought out a side of beans as part of the mistake (or so we thought) so my mom had that while we were waiting for her food remake. When the bill arrived, it was wrong. We had been overcharged for our lunch meals and drinks. The server tried to give us a discount but it still was more than we would have paid and we were charged for the mistake beans we didn't order. She finally tried to do a third correction and assured us that the credit card charge would get adjusted. Thankfully it was. We won't be returning to this location. We really enjoy Macayos but this one doesn't seem to have their act together plus the music being played was so loud it was unpleasant. read more

Macayos Avondale location has a practice of deceiving seniors. I ordered the Award Winning Pork Stew Green Chili Burrito/ side of beans off the senior menu ($8.29). I was told that the Award Winning Pork Stew Green Chili Burrito is not available ( there most requested Specialty burrito($15). so I reluctantly or a taco. I just couldn't believe the item you are well known for would not be available. So I went online and ordered from the Macayos Avondale location where I was sitting the Pork Stew Green Chili Burrito and the order went through without a hitch I didn't receive a message stating that the item was unavailable. the young waitress sat another elder group across from us and they to were ordering off the senior menu. the older gentleman ordered the Pork Stew Green Chili Burrito and the waitress told him it was not available. I knew that wasn't true due to I had just ordered it on line. once I finished my meal me and my companion went up front and there was my online order waiting for me. I asked the young lady if she was the manager I told her what happened and all she wanted to do was give me a coupon for a free dinner. I want them to stop lying to seniors if they feel the $8.29 charge is to low take it off the menu don't lie saying it's no available. All seniors beware. read more

This Macayo's on McDowell just opened up and we wanted to give it a try. The wait was about 10 minutes or so. The hostess wasn't too friendly. We were seated and everything was going well. Nice looking place and looks clean inside. Our waitress was nice and attentive. The food looked and smelled great, I took a few bites and it was delicious until I got to my third bite and there was a plastic object with a metal screw in my food. It poked my lip and I spit out the food back onto my plate. So glad I didn't swallow this dangerous foreign object. I notified someone, then our waitress came and took our place and stated the manager would be out. The manager came out and was apologetic and didn't charge us for our meal. He asked if we wanted anything else? I let him know that this sort of thing disgusts me, so thanks but no thanks. I know there's not much they can do except apologize so I do thank them for that. I never had this issue at the other Macayos on Litchfield. This was a waste of time and overall and horrible experience. read more
