One waitress at the dining room, very non-professional we were there for 45 minutes and had no good conversation with anyone there. We left our 15.00$ for 2 margaritas no one there seemed to be happy and didn't care what was going on with the customers- we won't go back again! We will however go to the one in good year now and see if that's better! Don't go to Macayo's on Indian school road buckeye ...seriously NO ONE seemed to care about the customer. A friend and I had a late lunch at Macayo's on Indian School Road on Friday. The experience was meh. They weren't busy. We asked if we could sit at a booth that needed to be bused as all the open tables were high tops and that is uncomfortable for me for an extended period of time. My friend and I wanted time to catch up. The hostess agreed to seat us at an empty booth as soon as it was bused. We waited 20 minutes for that booth to be bused. We were busy chatting and not in a rush, so we waited. There were several (5-6) servers who were just standing around or simply wandering around, and one bus person. None of the servers nor the hostess made any attempt to help with the table that needed to be bused. I asked at one point where the bus person was as he had not come out to the dining room for a while. I was told he was doing dishes in the back. Is he the dishwasher too? When we were finally seated, both seat cushions in the booth had several tears and needed replacement. Once seated, our server was appropriately attentive. We got chips and lots of tasty salsa right away. We got our food and drinks in ok time. The food is solid middle of the road Americanized Mexican food, and lots of it. A plus is they have a Senior citizen reduced price lunch menu. We are seniors so we appreciate that. I did like the food (which I drowned in their tasty salsa as I like very tasty food) well enough to take home and mix with eggs and make a Huevos Rancheros style breakfast the next morning. There are several Mexican style restaurants in the immediate area. Macayo's has the best front of the house floor plan with the most seating. This location has the front of the house bones to be a winner. That is why we chose it over a restaurant with better/tastier Mexican food but lacks the seating to sit and chat. Our experience had me thinking about not returning. I hope they fix the cushions (maintain the place) and train and encourage staff to help out their fellow employees and everyone bus tables instead of making customers wait so long to be seated. It makes me sad to go to a not busy restaurant and have poor service simply because they are not hustling because they are not busy. I wish them the best, I hope they step it up because they really do have potential. Our solid service and decent food made it 3 stars. If those hadn't been ok, this would have been a 1 star review. read more

Horrible customer service. I'm a food delivery driver who takes pride in giving people their orders as fresh as possible. I check in with the hostess who tells me to go to the takeout counter. I am standing at the take out counter on Cinco De Mayo with a brightly-colored delivery bag and no one working there is acknowledging me. The manager, an older lady, comes out from the back and gives a guy his delivery order. I wait some more and a gal finally asks me the name on the order and it had been sitting in the "heat locker" the whole time! Tried this because there's so little choices out here. Upon arrival it was suspect; waited about 3 minutes(feels long when you stand at the hostess stand). There's approximately 30-40 tables with 25+ bar seating. When we entered there were 6 tables occupied h not an employee in sight. There were 4 tables that were dirty just sitting there. The guy that was our "server" really struggled with the "service"part of his job. He spent the entire time standing at the bar, when he was visible, chatting with a couple people & never checking on anyone at the tables. ********FLIES ALL OVER THE PLACE****** When we were finally seated, there was a dead on the place setting napkin! They have fly "fans" INSIDE running to help keep flies from landing at the bar. The men's room was filthy, the top of the urinal looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in a week, the wall facing the urinal has "boogers"? on the walls as if someone did a farmer blow over & over on the wall! WHAT THE HECK? I was told this place is new in the area, IDK how "new" but I would expect a cleaner environment, I can only imagine what the kitchen was like! The food: way over priced (more than you'd expect) $9.99 for 1 taco with rice & beans! The rice was undercooked, the chicken taco was broken, the chicken enchilada was weak & flavorless, the salsa was flavored tomato juice. If they stay in business here I would be surprised. I can't hold my tongue anymore. We have eaten here quite a few times since they have come to the neighborhood. The windows have flies, the floors are insanely greasy and so is the food. Windows were dirty as well. It's just gross Last time we went we said we wouldn't eat here anymore but thought it's been months let's try again. We almost left and grabbed Taco Bell. I don't think I would truly go into depth in regards to how horrible the service was from the waitress to the manager. We waited a very long time to be acknowledged. When she finally came to our table (she had 4 tables) she didn't even look at us - we had to ask for our water and iced tea by the manager. He dropped it at the table and left. She never refilled our drinks. We had to ask for more salsa. My food had to go back as it came with things that were not described on the menu. I asked for a menu to order something else. She never came back. I had to ask the to go gal to order my meal. My husband finished his meal (which was a stew that he described as way too salty to be enjoyable) and she asked if I was ready to order. My parents wanted to take me out for my bday so naturally I pick my all time favorite place...MACAYOS. We had Karen today. She was amazing. She was top of getting our chips and salsa, drinks, and food. She even brought me out an unexpected dessert which was awesome. I couldn't eat all my lunch or dessert so she gave us to go containers for the food and salsa. My husband will enjoy it. Lol The restaurant is always very clean and I just love it. I'll be back. This is a great neighborhood place to eat! The place is much smaller than the typical Macayo's, but it has a great ambiance that brings a sort of small town feel in a good way.All of the workers are very friendly, and food is always pretty good. Gayle and I just returned from the Phoenix Arizona area where we visited her Sister's Family and her best friend from Morehead State (MN) and her husband. The first night at Jim and Erin's, we gathered on the patio at Macayo's during Happy Hour, along with their Son and his Wife. It was a pleasant evening and a good time was had by all over inexpensive and generous food and drink choices. Macayo's was a busy place, that seemed to be more than some of the relatively low Yelp ratings. The chips were warm and plentiful, and the service was friendly and attentive, at least until the end where the hungry crowds kind of overwhelmed the hard working service staff. My mistake was ordering too much deep fried appetizers, as initially tasty as they might be. The service is okay, hit or miss depending on the server. The last time we went we left after not having anyone come to our table for over 10 minutes. She kept going to tables around us to bring small things like a side of sauce or a soda but never came to get our drink order. Friday evening we went to Macayo''s on Indian school for happy hour an early dinner. We really enjoyed some of the items on the happy hour menu as well as the service. Karen was our server tonight. We've have been fans of yours for years, today I have to say we had the worst meal ever. We both ordered Baja Chicken Burros with rice and beans. When the waitress brought our food she extended apologies from the chef saying there was a problem in the kitchen. There could not have been an 1/8 cup chicken filling in our burros. Then they were placed under the broiler or wherever way to long and were as crispy as the chips. We received very scant portions of dried out rice and beans that were also dried out and skimpy. The best part of dinner was the chips and margaritas. When you are spending $25/person to eat it's not wrong to expect good food. We will try again, maybe a different location and if this is a restaurant wide problem we will eat elsewhere. read more

Unfortunately during the summer going to a restaurant you expect it to be cool inside. We went in and the side they set us on was hot, miserable hot! So hot you do not even want to eat your food. We expressed the concern of it being hot and our waitress and she spoke to the manager who just said it's locked and he can't adjust the temperature. But we could see the thermostat, it's set to 74 and it was actually 87 in there. Sounds more like you need ac service. Second there are so many flies inside it's literally disgusting. read more
