I went here to watch a game around 4pm on a Saturday. It wasn't that busy. We ordered drinks and the appetizer sampler that had potato skins, sausages, pretzel sticks and fried pickles! I was very uncertain about the fried pickles but I really liked them in the end. There were multiple dipping sauces that came for the variety of food and I appreciate that as dipping is a personal fav! It was Typical bar food that was good to share between three of us. Our waitress was running around and took pretty good care of us. The decor as quite a bit of wood everywhere and regular furniture. If you can brave the humidity there is a larg-ish outside bar with TVs. read more

This bar is great for groups! There's the inside bar with a live band playing soft rock covers, affordable drinks and a fun college crowd of Floridians and out-of-town revelers. We hit this Irish pub after the Gasparilla Day parade, so dipsomaniacs were out in droves. There was a $10 cover (BOO) and a line to get it (I'm assuming these factors stay the same on most weekend nights, but call to confirm the cover) They also have a grill going outside if you need nourishment besides frothy suds but there's a shopping center right next door with Jimmy Johns and awesome pizza too. Maybe Im too old for this pub, but i certainly felt like it was not the place for me. The service was fine and I just had a few beers, but I really didnt feel comfortable. Charge me $7 to park at your pub? In your parking lot?! on a thursday? You want me to leave you my drivers license AND my credit card just to open a tab? What kind of people come here that you have to keep their drivers license hostage against their tab? You have 4 or 5 bars and a fancy POS system, but i can ONLY get a beer from the bar that I opened my tab from? Right...because people used to abuse that and add drinks to other peoples tabs, etc. If youre looking to be treated like a 20 something kid spending daddys money, this may be the bar for you. read more

I really liked this place...when I first moved to Tampa...and I was 25...and drank a lot more. Here's the deal: McDintons is a great place for a certain demographic. Once you cross the other side of 30, the chances of you enjoying this place start to diminish - kinda like your testosterone levels. Honestly, I used to frequent this place a lot. It has It has 6 different bars around, it's very spacious, they sell food right outside the entryway and if I'm not mistaken there is also live music on the outside and the inside. That being said, as I get older I realize it's definitely more of a younger crowd spot. Certain nights are less crowded than others, if that's what you are looking for. MacDinton's is a great little melting pot in the heart of South Tampa. It gets pretty packed on the weekends, but you can usually still manage to find somewhere near the bar, even if it's standing room only. I prefer to hang out at the outside bar or at the tables if they're available. The thing I like about MacDinton's is that so many of the bartenders are actually Irish. It just lends a more authentic touch to the venue. And, I'll be honest; when it comes to someone pouring my hard cider, I just trust the Irish more. The large outdoor patio area is really what keeps me coming back. I'm not much for squeezing into a crowded room of sweaty 20-somethings (and a few 50-somethings with creepy eyes - you know who you are), but if that's your scene, the indoor area is also pretty large. The food is actually pretty good, too. I once took a gamble and ordered a late night tuna sandwich and it was delicious. They always have my Magner's cider on hand so they won my heart a long time ago. If I'm down in South Tampa, MacDinton's is usually where I end up. read more

I enjoy this MacDintons better than the St.petersburg location. It's super packed and always busy but they have multiple/different rooms with different music which is kind of nice. Prices are standard. You can hang inside or outside. They have a few different bars within the place instead of just one bar to stand at a line in. Was there for Gasparilla and I used the men's restroom and because of how long the women's restroom my girlfriend used the men's stall along with many other women. This "bouncer" was at the men's bathroom and made these 2 girls get out of line after they were next and go all the way to the back of the girls restroom. After seeing a woman urinate herself earlier due to how long the wait for the women's restroom was I tried to stand up for them explaining to the "bouncer" how long the women's restroom ones. He did not like me voicing my opinion and proceeded to kick me out by putting his hands on my back and pushing me out the door. I went without resisting but a lot of people saw the incident and began defending me and getting in the "bouncers" face. As I was walking out he then put his arms around my neck and starts squeezing. The police officer yells At the bouncer and tells him to get his hands off of me. I then get kicked out and because of him choking me my wallet fell out of my pants pocket. Anyways I was battered by the "bouncer" for trying to tell him to let these girls go the the bathroom. This place is unprofessional to say the least. This place should be investigated and I called a reported my incident to the police and will file a battery charge against them. Long story short this place is absolute garbage. The security is garbage. The owner is garbage. Avoid at all Costs unless you are looking to fight wannabe bouncers and get choked out for having an opinion. read more

Ohhh, MacDintons. If I was 5 years younger, I would probably be here every weekend. But I'm old and I'm lame, so I tend to avoid MacDs at all costs. But as much as I rag on this place, I make a pilgrimage every couple of months (usually at someone else's insistence). This place is the reason I think South Tampa should be renamed Little Gainesville. Without fail, I run into a handful of old college friends when I'm here. If you hate crowds and douchebags, don't go anywhere near this place on a Friday after work. Their outside area is great when it's not overflowing with people. Try coming early on a Saturday if you want to enjoy it and have room to breathe. Drink prices are pretty decent for SoHo. I can totally picture this place being packed on the weekends! This past Monday night we sat on the expansive deck, chatting with friends, meandering inside only when the need overtook us. It's a great area to hang out and, being right on a popular bar street, great for people watching. I CAN say the beers were cold and the drinks were good; and service was quick and friendly. Maybe I'm just getting old. Since I haven't been an undergrad in years, I'm probably being (or at least becoming) an old geezer. But ugh, college bars are usually a no-go for me unless it's off-peak hours. I've been to MacDintons three or four times now, and each time was enjoyable because it wasn't super packed. If there had been huge crowds during any of my visits, I'd have been miserable. The venue itself is huge. I love that there is no shortage of either indoor or outdoor space. The staff is generally pretty friendly, and the drink specials are awesome. The food is also really good, albeit a little on the spendy side. There are large screens everywhere, so catching sports events makes for a good reason to check MacDintons out. read more

It's really hard for me to give this place a rating. How much you like this place kind of depends on what you're looking for in a bar. If you want a crowded, super fratty bar filled with college students and other 20-something-year-olds and you want to get super wasted, this is THE place to go. However, if you don't like fratstars or crowds or waiting forever to get a drink or being at a bar with people who are still in college or still act like they're in college or waiting in line forever to get into a bar, then you should avoid this place. Even though this place is very large with several outdoor bars, a few different rooms, including one with a stage where they have live music some nights, and a some nice outdoor patios, on Thurs/Fri/Sat nights, it still gets completely jam-packed. On Thursday nights, they have $1 Miller Lite drafts and this really brings out the underaged college students. The Thursday night crowd is usually incredibly young, so don't be surprised if you go on a Thursday night and you see some kids who don't even look old enough to drive yet. Also, on their more popular nights (Thurs/Fri/Sat), they charge for valet parking, which tends to get full later in the evening, but on less popular nights they have free valet parking, which is nice. On Friday nights, MacDinton's has their happy hour from 6pm-8pm, which is all you can drink for $10. The lines to get into happy hour can get extremely long, and then they give you a teeny tiny cup, which you again have to wait in line for every time you want to get a refill. The bouncers here can also be huge pricks sometimes. I've seen people get thrown out for no reason at all, and I've even almost been thrown out myself for no reason. If you're 25 or under, make sure you have 2 forms of ID (i.e. driver's license and something else with your name on it, such as a credit card). They can be pretty strict about this and I've had friends who have come and only brought their driver's license and then been turned away. I have had some nights where I've had a LOT of fun at MacDinton's but those nights generally involved a ton of alcohol and some fuzzy memories. Being completely sober here can be pretty miserable. Overall, this place can be a lot of fun, given the right circumstances and if you're into the "MacDinton's scene". However, the lines, crowds and expensive drinks usually suck the fun out of it unless you're too incoherent to even notice or care. read more

This place deserves 0 stars. The security there are horrible people. I went there for Gasparella. Before entering I saw a girl sleeping in her own puke on the grass by the exit where there was a security guard standing. I tried to help her by calling her friend to get a ride home but her friend didn't pick up so the girl gave me her friends number, name and a picture of her so I could go inside to try and find her. I asked the security if they would help me because this girl was sleeping in her own vomit on their property and the security said "they have 1,500 people there, they won't send out a search party to help one girl". So I waited in line and paid $20 to get in to help this girl so she could get home. They do not care about the safety of anyone there. It is disgusting how unsympathetic all of them were. It doesn't stop there. Once I got inside at about 1 in the afternoon I began drinking. The line to the women's bathroom had about 50 or more ladies in it. My friend waited in the line so long that she pissed herself. I went into the men's bathroom where there was no line and only two men using the urinal. I asked the men if I could use the open stall and they were very nice and let me in. As I'm walking to the stall the security caught me and said I wasn't aloud to be in there. I explained to him that no one was using the stall and that the line to the women's bathroom was so long that I was going to pee myself. He told me that if I wanted to pee I have to use the urinal. I asked him why because the stall was empty and at this point there was no men needing to use the restroom. I started to walk to the stall and he blocked me with his body and said pee in the urinal. I asked him to call the manager and he refused. Then I said fine I'm just gonna leave so I started walking to the door to leave the bathroom and be blocked me with his body and wouldn't let me leave the men's bathroom. I told him I wanted to leave and he wouldn't let me until I peed in the urinal. So being alone and scared I peed in the urinal while he watched me. Once I was done he moved and let me leave. Being a 24 year old women that was extremely scary and disturbing thing to have to experience. They gave no wristbands or stamp when entering. So if anyone wanted to leave and use a restroom at another place you would have to pay $20 to get back in. If this place really had 1,500 people like the security guard told me then they need to have more bathrooms for women to use or let them leave and return without getting charged $20! This place is disgusting and does not care about the well-being of women or the people that they are continuing to serve alcohol to. read more

Some parts are hard to even walk through. There are other parts that are less crowded. I always come here when I visit Tampa because it seems to be the place to be. I probably wouldn't come here of my own volition. Not that it's a bad place. As a devoted Boston hipster, I really want to hate MacD's, scornfully, over a pair of horn-rimmed glasses and a big pint of Belgian beer served in the proper glassware. And I kind of do hate it. For its inherent frattiness, for the gleeful crowds that flock to its various cheap beer and liquor happy hours, for the fact that a local professional athlete "iced" my little brother here once (ok, that actually makes me love it more). But I can't hate a place that allows, nay encourages, puppies on their patio on Sundays. Puppies! Puppies and beer! And TVs with sports! Oh my! It's a good soccer bar, by the way. There are "football" scarves all over the wall. Anyway, in short: cavernous and strange inside, nice patio outside, darts and flip-cup tables, cheap booze on "special nights", gets super crowded, karaoke, smart enough to schedule karaoke on aforementioned cheap booze nights. I have been in the restaurant Industry for 6 years and I have never been treated so poorly my entire life. First time going to MacDinton's was Gasparilla weekend.... yeah I know that's a crazy time and workers are probably over it, I get it. The bar was crowded and we had just ordered our first round of drinks. We were outside listening to the band when suddenly, a worker passing out Jell-O shots pushes me to the ground. Afterwards, the server just looks at me without saying a word. The friend I was with asked her why she would do that and what her deal was and then the worker snapped her fingers and told security, and I quote, "get these b***** the f*** outta here" I was so taken back. I mean come on!! We were just standing there waiting for others to join us and for no reason this girl had the audacity to put her hands on me. My group of friends talked to the manager and security and they realized that we didn't deserve to be kicked out. Apparently this isn't the first time this girl has done something like this. They finally allowed us back seeing that we did nothing wrong, only for the same server to find us again and get a new bouncer to kick us out. I have never been treated that way and my friends and I will never return. Management needs to reconsider who they hire. My restaurant would never treat a customer like this, and if they did they would be fired for that sort of behavior. read more

"Meh". Whenever I say "meh", its not gonna be a good review. I've been here quite a few times and still I'm not a fan. I've always said this is the place to go if you want to find 9,420,395 frat boys in one spot. In other words, its always crowded to the max and not the classiest crowd. You have to wait an excessive amount of time to get in the door and again to get any drinks at the bar, as is the case in most places in South Tampa. Outside, its hot and gross even at 1AM. Inside is packed and only slightly better as far as temperature goes. The drinks are pricey. The music sucks unless ghetto rap or top 40 crap music is your preferred genre. It also really ticks me off that they require 2 forms of ID to get in. Give me a break. I've been over 21 for quite some time now and don't feel obligated to provide multiple forms of ID to get in somewhere that isn't that great to begin with. The bouncers act cocky as if they are the hottest thing around. Last time I went with boyfriend they gave him a very hard time about only having his drivers license and no second ID (and let me just say he clearly does not look anywhere near the age of 21 or under so I can't imagine why they would make such a problem). This place comes nowhere near being worth the absurd amount of hassle required to get in the door and "try" to have a good time here. Two thumbs down. read more

HORRIBLE experience. My [THEN] boyfriend and I visited Tampa for the first time for a long weekend (Atlanta is our home). After dinner, we wanted to see what kind of nightlife Tampa had to offer and our Uber driver highly recommended MacDinton's. Upon arriving, there were three guys working at the entrance. My boyfriend and I showed our ID's (as we would at any bar). The three bouncers at the entrance were antagonizing my boyfriend and were very rude and condescending toward me, questioning every line of my license for no apparent reason. When asked if I had "another form of identification such as a student ID, library card, credit card, etc" with me, I assumed that was a joke. Apparently, he was not joking because he rudely said "Do I sound like I'm joking?" First of all, I don't carry my Neverfull Louis Vuitton when I go out to a bar/club...no one in their right mind would. I carry a clutch like a competent human being. Second, there's no need for me to carry my credit/debit card when I'm with my boyfriend. I'm a college graduate at twenty-four years old, (which by observation was older than 75% of the people in that hole)so, no I don't have a student ID...and who goes to a library anymore? I look young for my age so I'm no stranger to this but the extent they took it to was inappropriate and unprofessional. After my boyfriend spoke to the manager, we finally were able to go inside. The venue is pretty big and packed. The crowd is very young. It was also very smoky which I couldn't stand. We were here for a total of maybe 30 minutes before we left and it goes without saying that we will not return to this hole. read more

And it happens every weekend in this sprawling complex of rooms that has an Irish name but is definitely NOT an Irish pub. The best thing about this place is that it is always packed.
