It's interesting that I just read about a person who had been going for 20 years and is probably done. I think we've been going for 30, almost weekly. Certainly since they were at the W. Henrietta Rd location and when they took over the Red Creek location on Jefferson. And numerous takeout orders through the pandemic, too. We arrived on a slow Saturday at 6:15, put in our drink orders. The rest of our party arrived at about 6:30, still no drinks. I think first beers and waters showed up around 6:40. We put our order in shortly after that. Normally we put an app order in and wait until we're working on the app before ordering our mains but, since things were moving slowly, we put all in at the same time, making sure it was clear we were ordering an app. 45 minutes later our app showed up and 2 minutes after that, our mains showed up. I explained how we just received our app and didn't want our mains, the front person assisting our waitress who brought them out, made it very clear he'd just be setting them down in the back and that we can have them whenever we were ready for them. Not a great answer from someone who seemed to be in a manager or leadership role (the delay was annoying, this crappy response was my first warning we were in for a bad night though). 20 minutes or so later, our waitress brought out those mains. 3 of the five of us were served and 2 of us just assumed our meals were soon to follow. Silly us. 20 minutes later, with nobody coming to our table to check on us, my wife got up and sought out the waitress and asked when we might expect the other 2 meals. She was shocked they hadn't come out and we soon found out they were never put in, and were not on their way. At this point, we had enough and said don't bother, just get us the check and boxes for the food that came and was eaten. At this point, snarky front-person came to our table to mansplain to us that everything was the fault of the waitress, who was new, and to rest assured that they would not charge us for the meals we did not receive. I asked for clarification that he said they felt bad but what he was going to do to make it right was effectively nothing, charge us for what we received and not for what we didn't, after such poor service. He was rude and dismissive and interrupted me multiple times as I tried to explain what happened and how we weren't pleased and how if the waitress was so new, she was clearly not trained or supported well enough and it was unfair to put it all on her and that there was blame to share. Ultimately he said there was nothing he could/would do and gave us the manager's name to follow up with (Gabbie, if anyone needs it in the future) which we will be doing when she's in, which isn't for a couple days and I guess I felt the need to vent in the meantime. In summary, we left 2 hours later, with about half of what we ordered (yes the mains were all cold, disappointing, and not without mistakes) and we're probably done with a place that was easily one of our go-to's for a long time. It's disappointing and I could easily overlook and forgive bad service but not poor treatment and the I don't care attitude by people in leadership. His name was Luke by the way and I blame our displeasure of the experience much more on the way he handled this than anything. I also know the waitress's name but I really don't feel like calling her out as she wasn't well prepared to handle tables on her own. She could have avoided some issues with a few more trips to the table to check on us but she clearly needed more training and support and they should have known that. read more

The staff is friendly and it was never overly crowded when I was in there. Lots of TVs to watch events that might be on, casual atmosphere. Food was tasty, diverse menu and good value price wise. The only downers why I didn't go 5 stars were, it feels like it could use a cleaning and updating. Also despite it being not super busy, the service was a bit slow. My wife and I have been customers for well over 20 years. Tonight will be our last time. It took over 15 minutes to get our initial drink order. The waitress cleaned the table next to ours prior to putting in the order. Turns out the beer was wrong. Dinner was ordered and that was wrong. Another 20 minutes til the proper meal was delivered. Upon receiving our bill we noticed that the wrong amount had been charged. We asked the waitress about it and she wasn't sure what to do. Checking our account we noticed that it had been charged. We told her about it and she came back with the proper bill. However we requested that she have a manager refund the original amount so we would only be charged the proper amount. Then an older male manager came over and was aggressive and rude. He kept telling us it had not been run through yet our account showed otherwise. We just didn't want to be charged twice. We have always understood the difficulties with staffing and have never had a problem throughout this entire pandemic. The aggressive and verbally abusive manager was comp out of line. He literally threatened me and told us to never come back . He kept referring to us as " you people" not quite sure what he meant by that. Four stars for one of the very best beer selections, particularly meaning draft beer, available in the area. The food, however, is merely OK food, and not a reason to visit Mac Gregor's. I admit that I happen to enjoy indulging in various beers, small batch crafted beers in particularly, and thought they don't have that many exotics, it is on that count Mac Gregor's delivers in the Rochester area. An odd thing about Rochester which is generally known for its beers, what with the Genesee Brewery, one would think that most establishments in Rochester would carry a wide variety, but such is simply not the case. Matter of fact I've never been able to find Genesee Cream Ale on tap in Rochester and few of their brewery products. Genesee didn't even have a booth, display or show table that I could find at the last Taste of Rochester event. So, it is in this niche that Mac Gregor's shines, and to that degree edges out the Dinosaur as well as the Tap & Mallet. read more

I came here with a group of friends last night and I wanted to share our experience. First, we were all IDed just to enter the restaurant to eat dinner. Once we sat down and ordered drinks, we were IDed a second time. This was a little ridiculous considering we had literally just shown our IDs to get into the restaurant. Service was pretty poor, our drinks arrived in a timely fashion but it took forever to get water and a soda. On top of that, our group was large and we all ordered together - somehow the tickets got cut into two separate tickets making the second half of the table receive their meals 10-15 minutes after the rest of us. This was ridiculous! We also had no silverware on the table so the people who had food couldn't even eat their meals. And overall, the food was not that great. Our waitress never came to check on us during our meals and waited a very long time to give us an explanation about the missing food. To top this visit off, one male went to the bathroom and was IDed for a THIRD time while on the way. This was extremely ridiculous and the bartender, Rob who was IDing him was extremely rude about it. After this visit we would not recommend or return to your establishment. The foot was quite tasty, and while pondering between hot and mild wings, we went with the Medium. And holy hades did those pack a little heat! I was using up napkins on my forehead just to look decent! I was there for work and found myself having at least 5 beverages, and with a bartender that was more than willing to give me a sample of any beer I wanted, I was content as content could be. Whenever I'm in Rochester and want to catch a live sporting event I come here. The place is littered with TVs and the atmosphere is much better than going to one of the local restaurant chains and trying to sit in the bar. There's enough TV's here to watch whatever event you want and it's roomy enough to allow for breathing room even when crowded. I'm told RIT students clog the place, but each time I've been there's been a well rounded crowd. There's ample beer and wine available, as with any bar, but the value here might be the food. Their sandwiches are pretty darn good. For a bar they're excellent, actually. The meat tastes like it's from a real deli and not out of a package and the bread is good, too. It's one of the few bars where you aren't caught scarfing down grease, thankfully. The side salad, however, was weak. It was basically a massive piece of iceburg lettuce, that wasn't even cut. I'm a server and I would never tip zero dollars, except when one of the bartenders (blonde woman working at 1AM on 8/27 (Sunday at 1AM)) decided to laugh at me and give me attitude when I asked politely if they had the Mayweather vs. McGreggor boxing match on. I would really like to discuss what happened tonight with management. My group had left a funeral this afternoon and we were completely disgusted and appalled by how we were treated. I work in the hospitality industry and you can be absolutely sure I will spread the word. I talked to the older man (bald) that was working the floor. I don't know if he is the manager, but I heard him say, "I didn't see it so I don't know what happened." We come to your establishment while we're grieving the death of a mother and this is how we're treated? Please call me immediately. Update: I was informed that Joel was the manager. He spoke with me but offered no solution other than saying, "tonight we were asked often if we had the fight and I think she was tired of answering it." You own a sports bar. If you are a beer lover, you're in luck here. There is a HUGE variety of beers on tap, many of them from local breweries! For a cider-lover like me, there's also always quite a few options to choose from, which I'm happy about! Food is standard bar/pub fare: burgers, wings, apps. The Irish nachos are my favorite: waffle fries topped with beef, jalapeños, olives, tomatoes, salsa, nacho cheese, and sour cream! The Blarney Stones and the deep fried pierogis are good choices as well! The wings here are also pretty delicious: large, juicy, and perfectly crispy. I came here for the first time a few months ago for a work event. We had our own area and had food and drinks and played some of the games. The waitress of our section was very nice and very efficient getting us drinks and anything else we may have needed. The food was pretty good but it was very confusing.... nothing was separated into appetizers and then a main so we were all confused as to what else may be coming out for us to eat. There was not enough space for plates and the like and we had to ask for bigger dinner plates and not just small plates for appetizers. It could be a little cleaner, but it is basically a bar that serves food so I can't really complain. This MacGregors has an amazing number of draft beers, a good assortment of televisions and an above-average food menu. Why only 3 stars? 8 years ago this place would've been 4 stars without thinking for me. In the last decade, however, the local chain has expanded its locations without putting any effort into maintaining its powerhouse one. The sign outside is faded and weathered and the paint is peeling and chipped. The TVs inside are embarrassingly old, especially when you consider that small dive bars have better equipment. The furniture is old and the bar is worn. It makes me upset actually - MacGregors, don't you care about your Henrietta location? Despite the slide towards entropy, this place still offers a variety of beers that no other place can match and manages to be laid-back and unpretentious. Fried food here is great and you won't ever feel pressured to look or act a certain way to be accepted as a customer. So this is my second time here. The first time I went there with a party of 10. Our server was definitely untrained but she was sweet. The bartender made a gay comment and when I confronted him he did apologize but it left a very bad taste in my mouth. Last night I went out on a date, first time date, and we ended up coming to McGregors for a few drinks and some conversation. When we went to close out, they had told my friend that they accidentally locked up his card and put it in the office and the manager had left and they had no access to get into the office so I ended up paying his bar tab. He was informed to come back today 2-13-22 after noon time to pick up his bank card. He drove all the way there, and they told him that no one was there to unlock this magical door where behind it was his bankcard. So another day without funds and access to his money, they told him to come back tomorrow! Well wonderfully, a woman was able to message him and look him up on Facebook and let him know that she had his bank card and that she would be going there tomorrow to receive hers and he can grab his. So two days- he's being left with no money, nothing but lies, and now he can go back for a second trip to pick up his bankcard and she can't get there till the evening so Valentine's Day lunch is definitely out of the picture! All of this is just so distasteful and dysfunctional and completely absurd- oh and irresponsible!! Imagine if this lady did not get a hold of him or turn in his card. I wonder what they would've said then??? Won't ever be coming here again!!! Not to mention- there was a patron drunk at the bar who is sleeping on the bar, he went in the bathroom and thrown up all over in the sink and on the floor, and it was left in the bathroom for over an hour. This is a fantastic pub. It is a family friendly restaurant with a wonderful tap beer selection. They have over 130 beers on tap. Ranging from IPA's to Sours and everything in between. Their bar food is great. I recommend the boneless wings (classic tasty, spicy buffalo flavors) and the pretzel sticks with cheese. The prices are good and there are a ton of tv's so you can watch the game or pretty much anything. It's great for dinner or late night drinks with friends. I love my micro-craft suds and MacGregor's seriously delivers on the beer. More specially on draft beer than bottles. I really think that their taps are unmatched in Rochester, (Tap and Mallet gives 'em a run but I think in quantity Mac is the home run) They don't necessarily have the more obscure breweries and ales/largers etc, for if you are dying for that Budweiser or Labatts, they have it. MacGregor's has more of the beer you'll find at your favorite Wegmans, it's craft but more middle of the road. This also lets you figure out what six-er you want to buy next at Weggies or Beers of the World instead of being disappointed when you don't like the taste. MacGregor's not only has constantly rotating taps to keep every trip an adventure but also daily specials on food and beer to save you some cash. So why not 5 stars? In my opinion the food was just middle of the road. I got the chipotle chicken panni and it was just ok. The same with the sandwich my buddy ordered. Nothing special. Your typical average bar food. Off to the side of the bar there is also darts and a pool table to enjoy when the pitchers start to get ordered. Weekend nights I've seen it packed when driving by but the Thursday we visited was hardly busy. I love MacGregor's! This is definitely their best location. I have lots of fond memories of drunken college nights here. They have so many beers on tap, and a nice little menu to help guide you. I know most of the bartenders fairly well, and most of them do a really good job mixing drinks. I often like to get a long island iced tea here, it's a lot of bang for your buck. Though there definitely have been times when the bartenders have made it a little "off" but when this happens it is definitely off in a overly strong way, than in a watered down way so I guess it could be worse. The bar food is pretty good too. I've had the nacho's before and they are an intense amount of food. You are going to want to share them. The place is pretty mellow, not too loud, lots of places to sit, and some games to play if you get bored. Even when they get busy, it's still not too overwhelming, and there are pretty much always places to sit. read more

The Henrietta MacGregors is the largest of their locations, and with that comes an absurd number of tap selections. We're talking in the neighborhood of 150 beers on tap at any given time. If you can't find something to drink here, you are either extraordinarily fussy, or the highest order of beer snob (and yes, unfortunately beer snobs do exist). One of the downsides to having so many beers on tap is that they don't rotate very quickly, so sometimes the beer can start tasting a bit "off". Ask for a sample first if you are nervous about your selection. The food at MacGregors is very good pub food. The Irish nachos are very tasty, and the wings are great. The signature sandwiches are also very tasty, and the large packs a ton of meat into the sandwich. Basically you build your own sandwich by selecting your own meat, bread, cheese, and condiments. Their pizzas aren't my favorite, but there definitely are plenty of other things on the menu to satisfy me. The Brooklyn Burger is amazing. It's basically a half pound burger with a reuben stacked on top. Yes, it's as good as it sounds. The bartenders at this location range from totally, completely inept (like you'll sit there for 10 minutes without a beer when there are less than 10 people at the bar) to very good. I've actually walked out of this place after 10 minutes without a beer. Yes, I could have waved down a bartender or yelled for one, but Lovin' Cup is right down the street, so I just said screw it and took off. It's great that you want to talk to your buddy and everything, but hows about you get me a beer first? Then you can talk all you want. Other times, the bartenders have been great. read more

Anyone giving this place less than a 4 really hasn't explored bars outside of the upstate area. I took this place for granted and now that I've spent some time were I grew up in central Mass and moved to NYC I really miss places like MacGregor's. The only reason I took off one star (and almost took off another) is that the prices can be a bit higher than ideal and the service here is hit or miss. For example one time we came here we ordered loaded fries and never got them even after reminding the bartender 3 times over 45 min. What a crappy experience that was. Last time I came in the middle of the day and had the nicest and most attentive bartender so the service isn't consistently bad. Anyway on to the good stuff, the wrap around bar is the largest I've ever seen; the beer selection is absolutely huge; the beers they give you are actually a bit bigger than any other bar (20oz); and the food when you do get it is pretty good. If you're coming here to eat, don't go to the bar, just get seated by a waitress and you shouldn't have any issues getting food even on a busy night. And the biggest selling point of MacGregor's is that they have a couple video gaming machines, two electronic dart boards, two pool tables, and a massively large back deck insuring that you can have a great time here. read more

Bear in mind that before the huge extension to RIT was built, and this was still the closest bar, students still generally avoided it. It wasn't because they couldn't use their fakes (they could), or because it wasn't convenient (it was), or even because it was overpriced (it still is). It was because of the absolutely hostile anti-student staff. I still find that amusing. Oddly, the RIT professors are quite regular here. The food is pretty bad. It's generally overcooked to burnt overall, and the selection is standard Rochester fare. About the only thing really delicious on the menu is their "T" fries, but you'd better hope the staff brings it out quickly before it congeals into a solid mass. Their wings are an embarrassment to the Niagara region. The one thing they DO have in abundance is beer, but it's hit or miss. The have some ridiculous number of beers on tap, like 100, but a good portion of them aren't popular at all, and you can tell which ones by what's on special as they try to kick kegs before they go from partially to fully skunked. Seriously...any beer on special here will be half skunked so think twice before you decide to save that extra dollar. They also refuse to put Labatt Blue on tap here because if they did, they'd have no chance in hell of selling their more esoteric beers before they went completely bad. I can't say I'm sorry that new bars opened up across the street. With any luck the lost business will either force the owners to change their business practices or it will die a slow death.
