Dining at Mackenzie River Pizza in Kalispell was warranted, we thought, due to the recommendations of past visitors. The decor is nice and the atmosphere fairly quiet. We went to the hostess desk and were met by a rather unfriendly girl who spoke one word, "Two?" and then sat us down without another word. She greeted everyone in the 45 minute period we were by the desk the same way. But a shining star was our server, Contessia. She seemed to be bombarded with tables but she was friendly, happy, and very pleasant. I ordered a Bloody Mary and I have to say it was in the top 5 worst Bloody Mary's I have ever had in my years. I couldn't even finish it. My wife ordered the Caesar salad and it was prepared well and was tasty. I ordered the Wedge salad and it was enormous and very good. We had for our entrees, the Humble Pie pizza with Fontina, olive oil, and garlic as well as the Pesto Linguine with chicken. Both were excellent and the pasta was one of the best pesto's I have tasted. All in all, not bad but I would hesitate to visit again soon. read more

We understand that staffing is low, but it would have been nice to be told before we were seated for drinks and takeout orders only that half the menu was unavailable. Staff seemed clueless. Food sucked too. We ordered the buffalo mac & cheese (dont get that), the mackenzie alfredo (was ok) and the poutine (gravy was too salty and not worth it). Online order of 2 orders of lodgepoles, 1 order of pesto lodgepoles, 2 salads and the penne chicken Alfredo without tomato's or broccoli. Food is always good however, the Alfredo did not have chicken and was penne and sauce only. The lodgepoles did not have marinara or ranch and the two orders of plain lodgepoles were placed in one large box. Be sure to specify they need to be separated if need be. (Iwas ordering one order to my husband at work and another for home).They do not have plastic ware for to go orders so plan ahead as we had to stop at a convenience store for forks. We were celebrating our granddaughters birthday last night and had a hard time finding a restaurant that was either open or not packed. We decided to try this location and after only a 20 minute wait were seated. Our server Gabriella greeted us with a smile and efficiently took our drink orders which she quickly delivered. We then ordered and again she was patient as some of our party debated on their order. Because it was so busy and the restaurant was short staffed we assumed there would be delay in getting our food. While it took a little longer than normal we were served more quickly than we anticipated. The food was hot, attractively presented and delicious! Gabriella was attentive and very gracious. I was in the restaurant business for over 50 years and I am probably more critical than most but last night I was very impressed! It's too bad there is such a shortage of willing workers this year, this restaurant was unable to use all of their tables. A good server can make a very nice living and there is a real opportunity for willing eager unemployed persons! read more

First off, it took 5 minutes to get seated. We really were not looking for pizza, but we took a look at the menu and decided for the all you can eat soup and salad. Well don't order that, cause there isn't a salad bar it has to be brought by the waitress who was completely overloaded and barely could serve us. We got a cesare salad which was decent but too much dressing and too many croutons. We did a $1 upgrade to Chili since the only soup they had was "cheese"..this should have been my queue to get the heck out of this place. This place has never disappointed us. It's always a good sign when you just can't make a decision because all of the pizza options sound so delicious! Because who can sacrifice one kind for another, they let you split the types on one tray. We were stoked to be able to try more this way. This place is busy for a reason: reliable, tasty, pizza in a variety of configurations. Other offerings are merely a-ok, but come here for the pizza...it's a pizza co. right? Friendly, accommodating staff also get a thumbs up--thanks for the samples. It's better when they're not too busy btw, so plan accordingly if that's an issue for you. Pretty disappointed. I ordered a small Rueben pizza which cost $16.50. I think I would have been as well off ordering a cheese pizza with some sour kraut on it. The corned beef consisted of three very small paper thin slices. The place was busy but not slammed and the service was indifferent. Once we got our food it was hands off. We have been pleased with MacKenzie River Pizza Co. in the past. We ordered four pizzas this evening and they were terrible. The "regular crust" was thin, floppy and doughy. We ordered two Hawaiians and two Ranchers. They were overrun with jalapeños. Who puts jalepenos on what was supposed to be pineapple and ham? A couple of pieces of pineapple and no ham. Very disappointed. We had heard the quality declined and the prices increased. Decided to try it. Never again! read more

We love this place. The pizza is delicious and their prices are super affordable. The staff has always been friendly and accommodating.

We were well pleased with our meal here. The line was huge at 7pm, but we were seated within 20 minutes. As the name suggests, there is plenty of pizza to choose from and also create your own options. I had the Greek pizza. It came loaded with kalamata olives and feta cheese. The flavor was excellent. I personally like my crust slightly charred and salty but this was ok for a thin crust. They carry other non pizza items like salads and pasta. Service was quick and couteous. The pizzas come in personal and large size with regular or thin crust. read more

"Meh" pizza (nothing special-heavy on the cheese, light on the toppings), horrible service, will never go again. I'll break this down in three parts. 1-The hostess. We arrived late (9:00, they close at 10:00) with a group of 6+my baby boy. We were quickly seated. The problem was, though we told them upfront that we needed a highchair and their restaurant was only half-full, she placed us in a high traffic area of the restaurant in booths much higher than the highchair they offered. When our server arrived he asked if we'd like to be moved, but they came up with a solution for our highchair and we pressed onward. Definitely an awkward start. 2-Sevice. Our server had a strong start-getting our drink orders, and suggesting an appetizer, which we ordered. He brought our waters, but five minutes later we still didn't have our sodas. He finally arrived with the sodas about 10 minutes in, with the appetizer, but hurried off before we could place an order. Another 15 minutes pass, and we realize he has taken the orders of people who arrived long after us, but still hasn't placed ours. Another 5-10 minutes pass before we flag him down, and ask if we can palce our order. When our food arrives (another 25 minutes later!, we're now an hour into this meal) he tells us the cooks "messed up" one of our pizzas. We eat the two that have arrived, another 20 minutes pass before we see the last pizza. 3-Food. We ordered the "lodge poles", which was cheese bread with a pesto sauce, served with house-made ranch. They were good, nothing special, but good. I ordered a house salad-mixed greens, pears, grape nuts, and the house vinegrette-it was lovely! (a 4-star salad on it's own). As we were in a large group, we ordered quite a bit-one large sausage pizza, a small chicken alfredo, and a small thai pizza. I ordered the thai, and did not try the other pizza's, but they all seemed to have the same strengths and weaknesses-good crust, quality cheese but too much of it, and very few toppings. These pizzas were similar to a chain food pizza joint, but twice as expensive. Moral of the story? Skip it. Go find some good Montana BBQ instead. :) read more

Stopped in and tried the beet salad without much in terms of expectation. The salad was presented on a sizeable bed of arugula but this was not a dinner sized position. Someplace between side salad and dinner portion. It seemed about a third smaller than the dinner sized Greek salad. The right amount of beets was present but just two or three slices more would have made a better impression. The amount of cheese was just right but it was clumped together. If it had been spread around a little more it would have also helped with the presentation. But overall a good fresh salad for a reasonable price. Service was relaxed, stead and busy during the lunch rush. There was a steady stream of patrons coming and going. From white collar office staff to skilled construction workers coming in out of the elements. The atmosphere is social and lively. Would go back again and again when seeking that 'canned' unique experience. read more

I have heard that this Mackenzie River is one of the first original ones in Kalispell. They have one that is a grill now by the Costco and then a Whitefish location. Upon entering, my husband and I had to wait a little bit to get seated, I don't think the hostess was around or knew we were waiting for a table. Upon someone else entering and waiting up at the stand thing, they had pointed to us to let her know we had been there first and then she had said she didn't know if we were waiting for someone or something. It ended up being no big deal because we were joining a couple anyways, and they were running a little later than us so no big deal. We got the lodgepoles, spinach and artichoke dip as an appetizer, the sequoia pizza gluten free, and then my husband got the chicken penne pasta which he hadn't ever had but one of my friends said was amazing so he tried it. All in all another amazing experience at Mackenzie River! OH, and the moscato wine is delicious. This location only serves beer and wine and does not serve burgers. Select locations only have a full bar and grill and the closest location to this one is the one right by the Starbucks across from Lowes and Costco. read more

MacKenzie River Pizza affords all who find their way into the mountainous regions of Montana a fantastic beer and wheat-laden dinner, what with the abundance of dough being slung and the taps being dripped into pint glasses galore. The menu fires on all pub cylinders with abundant burgers and a copious variety of appetizers, with pizza rounding out the grub. You can definitely find something for everyone to eat, specifically pies. I appreciated the variety of meaty pies and veggie alike and everything in between. Specifically, the I will say that the spinach-artichoke dip (which really should be basic and lack too many bells and whistles) lacks the necessary qualities of a dip: too runny and an overpowering sour cream flavor. Yes, I know pizza is the name of the game, but you gotta offer some OK apps in my book. MRP stays the course with consistency, a no-frills approach to all that is pizza, and a high priority on benefiting the community. All great things, bracketed in fairly decent fare. read more

We were skiing at Big Mt and drove by Mackenzies on the way up. Hey! that looks like a good place to eat. Lets stop by on the way back. This was a huge mistake......... I cant believe people gave this place 4 stars. This was some of the worst pizza I have ever eaten. Maybe some of the entrees are good but please stay away from the pizza. I saw them slicing a thin crust up when I walked in and it looked paper thin and horrible. Its my fault for staying, I blame myself. We were told to go to mooses after this visit. Split a large veggie pizza with couple with few extra toppings, a couple of beers and the mud pie to end with. Pizza was good albeit a bit greasy on the top. Was expecting a generous chocolate drizzle on the mud pie. Disappointed to not see any. We reached Kallispell pretty late and not many restaurants were open. So I was pretty excited to use a coupon from their new app to get a free flatbread for dinner. Made the mistake of going to the wrong Mac River. I forgot this location doesn't serve alcohol other than beer, first failure but that was my mistake. Okay. So I order a tea with sweetener on the side and lodgepoles with ranch for an appetizer for our table. Our drinks came, except for the sweetener. Okay, I'll manage, plain tea is alright. Our appetizer never showed, salad and a bowl of chili did about 20 minutes after we sat. The person that brought those said he'd go check on the lodge poles. Chicken chili was mediocre, nothing to write home about, but not bad. Then our appetizer came with all of our food, waitress tells us the app was taken off the ticket. Okay, that's cool I guess. At this point I am pretty hungry after a long day and a long wait, I dive in to eat my food I've been waiting to get. Just kidding. There's definitely a hair in the melted cheese. This isn't a hair from the top of someone's head, for sure a beard hair or lower body. Awesome. Okay. I'm done eating now. App comp'd, chili comp'd, flatbread comp'd.
