We came to Issaquah to stay with our friends. They took us here to try for the first time as they only recently moved in. It's definitely a gem for this little town. They have authentic dim sum items with more dishes on the weekends. We had the spinach shrimp dumplings, hargow, siu mai, chicken feet, and other basic dim sum items. Their chili oil is pretty good as well. Their servers are a little rude but that's part of the authenticity I guess. Overall the place is amazing if you happen to be in the area. We order 4 types of dimsums, fried rice and chicken wings. The dimsums were better than average, specially the shrimp balls were very flavorful. Plus the dim sum itself was just ok, not fantastic like I am used to at other dim sum locations. I liked the fried rice but it was pretty greasy. The shu mai was good, but hard to mess that up. The green beans were tasty too, but the other items were meh. Additionally the cost per dish was higher than what I have paid elsewhere for the same quantity of dim sum. I went back-and-forth on this place a lot before actually reviewing it. We came over here on a whim after feeling like we need to get out of the house one snowy Sunday in Yakima. We found this place for dim sum and the rest was history! It's located in Gilman Village in what appeared to be an old house. It's got a really cool vibe inside it feels like you're going to your Chinese auntie's giant house for lunch! The place probably seats 80 to 100 people and has a large main dining room as well as the smaller ancillary area with some booths and long tables. There were only two or three ladies with cartwheeling around, but they made the rounds quickly so we were never without deliciousness for very long. The name of this game was really highs and lows. He baked barbecue pork buns were very good as was the shumai. We got some pork and egg congee to share, and while the porridge was very good, the pork was very chewy. You put that together and it's the middle of the road. The steamed pork buns were unfortunately not great, but the custard buns made up for them! They had a very nice fish tank in the entryway, and the people running the place all seemed very nice. They were attentive, and made sure we at least have the option of grabbing food anytime we wanted. Disclaimer: I am not a dim sum expert but here are some thoughts on what was ordered: Baked BBQ pork buns: The BBQ pork filling is really well done. The bread was also soft. This tasted fresh and warm. Just one small caveat - the coating was a little TOO sticky - I've never had the issue of having the bun coating stuck onto my teeth, however, this was the case. ..although don't think this would stop me from ordering this again Steamed BBQ pork buns: Not entirely memorable, mediocre. Would probably skip next time, especially if ordered the baked bbq pork buns already. Shumai: Generally, most dim sum places I've been to have shrimp but this one just seemed to be pork only. They have all day dim sum!!! I was sad that they don't have rice rolls when we were there. They said rice rolls are only available in the mornings. :( I love the XLB here though! The xiao long bao tasted very off and not fresh at all, even compared to frozen super market versions. The egg custard tasted like chemicals and not authentic. My husband and I loved eating at Macky's dim sum so much. It was our fave place to eat until today. My husband and his family have eaten at this place for years. The owner was always nice to us. We always ordered a bunch of food, never complained, tipped well (18% at least every time, sometimes up to 30%) I'm not gonna lie their food is very good. Today, after entering the restaurant and getting a table, we immediately got some water and a tea pot on the table which was nice because we were thirsty. Then we ordered a lot like we used to. WE also ordered the chicken lettuce wrap, it is our favorite. My husband and I finished the lettuce before the stir fry chicken so we asked them to get some more lettuce, then they gave it to us. Once we finished everything, we asked for the bill. I was wondering how much everything cost because we ordered a lot. I saw that they charged us $5, then I asked the guy who gave us lettuce. He said $5 was for the lettuce. I was like what????? 5 PIECES OF THE LETTUCE???? They also charged us $1.25 for a pot of tea. To be honest, we don't mind paying extra, but at least they should let us know. I feel like they just try to be sneaky and I don't like that. It was just because they wouldn't think that we would look into the details on the bill or what? They can do whatever they want? Even sometimes the lady with glasses treats us not very nice, we still wanted to come back. But this is getting ridiculous and we just felt very disappointed. Me and the gifriend have eaten at this gem a couple of times and enjoyed ourselves... until today. The food is good, don't get me wrong-- and the atmosphere couldn't be anymore pleasant. But what set this review in action was the rudeness from the lady collecting our paid bill. She picked up the bill and the tip that I gave in cash and was dissatisfied, saying "Tip is 15%." There is no obligation to tip, let me say that first, and secondly I tip a decent amount based on the experience I receive and how the waiters treat us. It threw me off when she said that, especially when it was just a party of two. I paid the 15% and left. Ironically enough, all of this happened after I mentioned to my partner that tipping culture plain sucks. Yes yes yes! Dimsum on the east side! We love and stand for good dimsum. I wish I could go to Canada for dimsum, and I also wish I could look like Beyoncé, but we can't always get what we want. However, although I am a peasant compared to Beyoncé, this dimsum stands a good chance next to their Canadian dimsum buddies! The bbq steam bao was actually soooooooo fluffy and delicious I was not expecting it at all! I usually get these out of habit but oh my goodness never did I expect it to shine the way it did next to the army of dimsum I ordered. I pretty much ordered one or two of everything and racked of a bill that was quite impressive. We had leftovers for a few days but it was worth it y'all. For the east side this is amazing! The chicken feet was so fresh and so good my daughter didn't even know it was a foot she was eating! Shrimp and pork dumplings were also super delicious, juicy, bouncy, and fresh! There was a reviewer down below who complained their rice shrimp rolls were bland and tasteless, and a few other reviewers complaining about service and etc.. and I'd like to point out that these patrons prob haven't frequented a dimsum restaurant before. The steamed shrimp dumplings are plain by creation with sweet dark soy sauce added when served... there are other cultural norms of a dimsum restaurant that are being called out here as bad service as well. So if you're looking for a steakhouse white linen napkin kind of service at an dimsum restaurant, don't be surprised when you're disappointed! This place does not give 3.8 star service or 3.8 star food. The ambiance is lovely and they are the talk of the town as they seem to have so many regulars. Food comes out quickly. Their Shu Mai dumplings are great and plump. Another must try is their honey cashew prawns as they were crunchy and perfectly balanced.
