The servers were nice and helpful. We ordered the Ling Cod fish & chips with mushy peas. The fish is pretty thick and the batter was crispy & just right. It was definitely just enough for the 2 of us. A bit pricey & def worth the price. Also had a glass of wine & a beer. The pub was 2 stories and had ample room to sit at the bar, booth or table. Cool area with lots of shops, bars & restaurants. Parking is a little difficult but we were able to find a free parking space around the corner. Definitely more pub than restaurant. But my friends and I came here for food and according to them, the fish and chips were pretty disappointing. Dry and battered to hell. Lucky for me, I got the Salmon burger which turned out alright. The fries were okay. It's solid pub food. Cocktails were fine too. No real complaints from me. Especially since I thought the Scotch egg was done pretty well. Enjoyed the little stuff than came with it on the side too. It's like an appetizer with mini appetizers! They have a fairly extensive food menu, of which we tried the fish and chips (cod option) and shepherd's pie. The fish comes as one giant piece, and while it was cooked well it was mostly batter. I love this place! I had a long layover and came here with my nephew for dinner. From the moment we walked in we were warmly greeted. The fish and chips were delightful! Flaky fish with a slightly sweet, crisp batter accompanied by in house tartar sauce. The fries were perfect and they had malt vinegar at the table as an accompaniment. The Shepherds Pie did not disappoint with its savory gravy topped with perfectly textured mash potato. Dessert? We HAD to order the Sticky Toffee Pudding and so very glad we did! We were recommended the "Tour of Scotland" (Whiskey flight) it contains 'a 1/2 oz pour of signature whiskey from five areas of Scotland' It was mixed bag, all pretty strong so if you're looking to warm up with something beyond coffee, that'll do it for you. The Sunday farmers market was just wrapping up and the place was just opening when we arrived. Our waitress was AWESOME. We all had a beer and got some appetizers because we wanted to walk down to the locks/fish ladder before coming back for dinner. The Scotch egg was very good, but the deep fried oysters had too much cornmeal breading which masked the actual oyster taste. Happy hour prices were nice. After visiting the locks, we headed back for the much anticipated fish and chips. Well, we were disappointed. The fish itself was very good, but the batter was soggy and actually slid right off the cod fillet. The clam chowder was solid. My friend and I went to Macleod's on New Year's Eve for a little and quiet end-of-year celebration. It was a perfect choice as we enjoyed a fantastic dinner, beautiful drinks, and delicious desserts. For mains, we enjoyed fish and chips, fish tacos, and Scotch egg. It was New Year's Eve, so we decided to order all sweets. Deep-fried Mars bar with ice cream and sticky toffee pudding served with a mountain of whipped cream. We even received an extra plate of deep-fried Snickers bar for free. As for drinks, we paired our food with Belhaven Scottish ale, McEwan's Scotch Ale, Blood & Sand, and Robert Burns. What a lovely meal. Deep-fried Mars bar and Scotch egg were the highlights of the meal. Scotch egg - a soft-boiled egg wrapped in layers of sausage meat and breadcrumbs and deep-fried. All the component parts fit together beautifully. Deep-fried Mars bar - the thought of deep-frying a Mars bar seemed criminal. The outside had a lovely crunch, and the inside was incredibly gooey. It was packed with all the flavors that we loved about a Mars bar. Macleod's has a nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and it is so much more than just another pub on Ballard. Although the food was great, I was eager to leave a review on the customer service alone. It's tough to find a place to get into in Ballard on a Saturday night without a reservation and the gentleman at the front was unbelievably welcoming and got us in right away! Great service throughout the meal too. Staff is on point! For that reason I would 10/10 recommend this place. Aside from service, the food was great. I got cod and chips. They give you a giant piece of cod that is beautiful and flaky on the inside, perfectly cooked, and ultra crunchy on the outside with the batter they use. Fries are skin-on which I love! Also, their tarter sauce is really good and fresh which I think was a nice balance. They also have an array of beer/cider/wine ect and was impressed with their massive selection of scotch options! We were visiting at sunset and we were set outside on the street under a canopy with beautiful lights and lots of happy customers nearby enjoying the night as well which gave such a great atmosphere.
