Had an awesome experience with a perfect Professional waitress. Her name is Ariana. She didn't miss a beat and she was in the middle of training a new employee this is one of the best Waitresses I have ever encountered. Looks small, but opens into a large indoor/outdoor area with a large bar & plenty of seating. Smoking allowed in the back. Fun crowd & a good place to drink, talk, & mingle. Waitresses are friendly and attentive. They also make some good drinks there. On the last visit we just had beers, shots of Fireball, and shots of Misdemeanor (Buttershots & Crown Royal). Pretty average bar in Alton. Nothing too special about this place, but its a decent place to hang out with friends and have a few drinks. Food is alright. my favorite is the wings. This place could definitely use a good deep clean as it can be pretty dirty. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with their new expansion that will be opening soon. My review is a little different because we don't go there as a bar, we go there for the restaurant! We have eaten there twice, the first time, we all ordered pizzas (one price for one topping or all toppings) and toasted ravioli for my son. The pizzas were hot and the toppings were plentiful. The toasted ravioli (cheese) was maybe the best I've ever had. Service tends to be a bit slow in terms of drink refills. Last week I was there for the quarter auction (entirely too many people packed in the big room), but didn't end up going in -- we ate dinner on the patio (fabulous chicken ceaser salad), but because we patronized the restaurant, we weren't able to get a seat for the auction. I will say that the oversized, industrial fans were nice on the patio, but there was absolutely no a/c or air circulation in the auction room. We will defintely go back! read more

I came to Macs for a quick drink and bite to eat to eat tonight, I wanted the blackened shrimp appetizer and Daniel recommended the blackened shrimp dinner. I got that with asparagus and a twice baked potato and it did NOT disappoint! it was the best shrimp dinner I think I have ever had! The drinks were also amazing!!! Decent place to drink if you like smoke and barely-of-age customers. The food is horrendous. Want something medium rare? Charcoal. Rare? Charcoal. Seeped in grease? You got it!! It's so bad that the wait staff apologize when you order your food. They know it's going to be wrong when it comes out of the kitchen. Place needs a good cleaning and can do with more fans. One note....the Sunday brunch is excellent. I have my doubts that the regular fry cooks are allowed to go near the brunch food. While the coffee is no better than warm water that had a brown crayon dipped in it the food is really good. Great selection. I really like the place despite the food I had today. I tried the peppercorn kabob and it was slathered in a butter product similar to Whirl if it wasn't Whirl. My meat came out medium well instead of medium rare like I'd asked, but I was impressed with the service and how fast our food arrived. The cheese garlic bread was good but also drowning in butter product, but some people I was with really enjoyed their food. They have a great selection of booze and the staff is friendly, however the whole place needs to be aired out or updated or both. This was my second time here. The first time went home and raced about how wonderful the food was but the second time I HAD to leave a review. Mac's is exceptional bar food. If your into chicken sliders and mozzarella sticks kind of food this is the place to get them. Everything seems handmade right down to the buffalo sauce with swirls of butter and hot sauce and French onion dip on their fresh chips. The chicken strips and chicken sliders are big juicy chicken pieces with perfectly spiced and crunchy breading, the kind that cannot be frozen. I always like to come here when I'm in Alton but the lack of covid precautions they have taken is not ok. I ordered food to go because I was visiting my grandparents so I didn't feel like it was a good idea to go indoor dining during that. I walk in to see not one employees wearing a mask. None of the cooks, none of the bartenders, none of the servers, no one. You would've thought there was no pandemic at all if you didn't know any better. It actually made me really nervous because I saw the cook packing my food with no mask on which means that he could've easily just been breathing covid all over my food. I honestly almost just said nevermind before I paid and walked out the restaurant. I understand that this is a bar and that some of the covid precautions such as plexiglass can be really expensive, but masks are simply a must have and they barely cost anything. I just don't understand why they can't just do that and give everyone a little more peace of mind. Some of the servers actually did have masks, they just weren't wearing them. I remember seeing one server with it around her neck like you know you have to put it over your mouth and nose for it to work right? I have been to other bars and restaurants in Alton and this is the only one that doesn't have employees wearing masks. I think that mac's is a nice bar, but I definitely will not be visiting here again until the pandemic is over. read more

We ate Sunday brunch at Mac's and it was good....until I got my bill. We used our debit card and I knew that they charged for that but I was very surprised to learn that we were charged 22% of our bill in fees. Our bill was $30.10 and we were charged $6.75!! What a ripoff! The service was pretty bad as well. Even though I could have paid cash, the fact is they are stealing from their customers with that kind of charge. I will not be back and, furthermore, I will tell everyone I know that they are thieves. There is too much competition in Alton now that they need to rethink what they are doing to their customers. Wife took me here for a birthday dinner. Wonderful setting and nice dinning area. Staff was pretty friendly. Fried ravioli app was great! However... I ordered the Jack Daniels Steak Medallions and they came pretty over cooked with a severely under baked potato and it was a good 30min between placing the order and receiving the food. Changed my order to the Chicken Speidini and it took another 35 minutes. Needless to say, I was decently upset at having been at the restaurant for over an hour and hadn't eaten after the app. Manager came out and told us not to worry about our ticket and apologize for everything that went poorly. I understand, everyone has bad days. On our way out the manager gave us a gift card towards our next visit. That is some great personal service. We will be coming back hoping it was a fluke. This bar is quite large! It has an outside, dance floor, pool tables, and lots more. Its normally busy, so if you looking to meet some people and have a good time, and not want to bar hop. This is your bar. I personally don't like it because of its size and the amount of people that can be there. But I hear it can get crazy fun. read more

By happenstance I ended up at Mac's after leaving Raging Rivers Waterpark and starving from hopping through waves and running up giant hills to continue my water-slide extravaganza. Lets just say the Patio is AWEtastic. It's the perfect outdoor sports bar atmosphere. Now I didn't come for that i was just hungry.... The outdoor patio is covered and air conditioned, we sat near a vent and because I was still wet from swimming I was cold. I ordered the Chicken Tortilla soup and UMMM YESS it was tasty. I am not a huge lover of corn and i appreciate that corn did not overtake this dish. King Doc (the hub) ordered fried mushrooms which he loved the size but the breading was Meh. I'd had fried food the night before so I took it easy and had the Chicken Skewer and Asparagus which was fare. King Doc ordered the Greek burger which is a hamburger topped with gyro meat, feta cheese, fried cucumbers and tzatziki sauce....Drum Roll This burger looked as good as it tasted. Enough for King Doc to eat the whole thing. If you DO NOT drink, smoke, enjoy lewd behavior, have sensitive ears make sure you do not go in here to eat after 5 especially with children. I did not know the name was Mac's Time Out LOUNGE I just thought it was MAC's. All in all i would definitely go here again if I was in the Riverbend area again. read more

The food time was long but I spent most of it talking to my family so I didn't mind. I ordered the shrimp and they tasted great I just wish I had more. They need to stick to what they do best, whatever that is. It definitely isn't the steak oscar. Ordered it medium rare, came out medium well, covered in "hollandaise" sauce. I would describe it as mustard gas yellow with a slight green tint. The crab might have been straight out of a can of Fancy Feast. We ordered the buffalo shrimp for an appetizer, breaded in something similar to crushed up shrimp shells and fried to the point of no return. The high point was the salads and bloody Mary's, but let's face it, that's hard to mess up. I hear the pizza is good. I'll never return to find out. Probably should have started the there. read more
