Next I got the Ahi Ceviche. The actual ceviche was buried in chips and when you did find it there was very little flavor. The fish was cut into too large of chunks and most pieces were connected together as they had not been properly...

few bites. Finished with the Blackened Cod Tacos. Again, lacking in flavor... as I aggressively salted all of them. Also, way too much coleslaw and mushy at that. Less and crunchy would have gone a long way. The rice was weird as it was "buttery" and didn't really fit the meal. I was expecting more of a southwestern flavor. Would I go back... probably, but I would have to try a lot of other items to be impressed.

We were in town for work over the Valentines Day weekend and decided to try this place downtown. It was a very cozy atmosphere with friendly staff. We started with a dozen gulf oysters. The oysters were well shucked, plump, and fresh! Then we shared a large clam chowder. We liked how it wasn't too creamy. It was well seasoned. I had the salmon salad and my husband ordered the fried combo (fish, shrimp, chicken). We enjoyed everything and the service was fast. The only downside was parking, but it's downtown so we expected it.

Ambiance is good. I love that's it's an old building, gives it history, very tall ceiling doesn't give you enclosed feeling. The service was good. Friendly server but she kept having to go and come back because of the mix and match we ordered, didn't know the cheesecake of the day (it was after 12). The food- we ordered fried oysters and they were left. Those that tasted them were not fans- said it tasted weird, could have been the batter Ingredients? Took one bite and that was it. I ordered lobster mac n cheese which was good but waaayyyyy too much garlic pieces. I couldn't fully enjoy it. The toast was good. We ordered a slice of cookies and cream cheesecake and that was good. Very creamy. Not sure if I would revisit. Maybe order grilled salmon.

Service was nice, Ambiance was really nice. I feel like it used to have a really good history but maybe that was in the past. I had the gumbo and it was pretty good. There wasn't much seafood. I think it was only a few pieces of small shrimp. There was beef meatballs in it which I've never seen in gumbo. The taste was really good and I would order it again but I would get crab from a grocery store to add to it. I also got a cheese cake and I was expecting NY style but it seemed like Jello-O make at home cheese cake. It was good though. It came with a tiny piece of bread. It would be nice if they gave more than one small piece of bread. I would visit again.

Mac's is what I call REALLY Dog friendly, allowing well behaved leashed pups to dine IN at certain tables. What a neighborhood jewel, family owned/run serving up really tasty Cajun/Seafood dishes. We had a nice little 2 top where the staff promptly brought over a water dish for our girls. We ordered a shrimp cocktail, blackened cod fish tacos and the Mahi entree. The food was delicious, prices so reasonable and the service/friendliness of the staff was truly gold standard. Save room for the cheesecake which is a must, we did the Hawaiian cheesecake and it was scrumptious! If we lived here in El Paso, we would hands down be regulars. Nice selection of beer and the whole vibe of the place is really eclectic... nice casual meets homey and artsy? Well done Mac's!

EAT HERE. You will not be disappointed. Stopped a year ago and had a fantastic meal. Here we are again. Home run. Everyone thing is absolutely amazing. Gumbo bowl is $8!!!' This is the deal of the century Shrimp and Grits. Outstanding. The restaurant is cozy and eclectic. I highly recommend you get off the beaten path and try it. Don't be put off by it being downtown. It's easy to get to from interstate 10 and parking is a breeze. Parking on street, they have meters but who doesn't have loose change they want to get rid of. I love Mac's.

This place is my go-to for amazing seafood and the best cheesecake. Service is very attentive and staff is very welcoming. My favorites are their clam chowder, oysters, blackened cod with added garlic mushroom sauce, and their cheesecake of course. The ambiance is pretty chill and casual which I love. This is also a great location for dates or to hang out with friends. Its not too much of a drinking place but they do have beer.

This place is always a joy. Stopped in for a quick lunch and had their seafood soup. It was piping hot and fresh. So delicious! You can't get more homeade, I tell you. It also had a heat that is unlike a chile or spice, maybe paprika? Very good. I also discovered their yummy French fries. Service, prices, and overall ambiance is always on point too.

After chowing down on good Mexican food for 4 days in a row we decided to get a little seafood and found Mac's just down the street from our hotel and Pioneer square. I didn't expect much cuz I really don't think about seafood when I'm in the middle of the desert, so to speak, but Mac's was straight up good! We especially enjoyed lobster Mac & cheese. Prompt service, clean environment, nice people who I assume were the owners who came by and checked on us to see if we were okay.... and we were! Good experience.

What a great local place for cajun food. The service and food were outstanding. The best gumbo and coleslaw we have had. The building is historic with lots of local artwork inside. Owners were on site and were very friendly! Will be back for sure!

Delicious ! Why didn't I eat here before ??????? I always stay downtown but forget to check out these gems. I ordered the COD Fish Tacos, Ahi Ceviche and Clam Chowder. I ordered through Uber Eats so the order arrived pretty quickly. The Tacos were full of flavor and did not fall apart like I thought they would. THE AHI CEVICHE THO!!!!!!! If you're not getting the Ceviche I don't know what's wrong with you the flavor was fkn amazing and the chunks of fish were not what I expected at all. The portion of ceviche was enough for me although it was pretty expensive it's totally worth the $22. The Clam Chowder was on point and def worth a try as well. Next time I'm downtown im gonna give the Po Boy Sandwich a try! 10/10

Yummmmmm!!!! My wife and I were very happy to find this spot downtown. I had the fish and chips which were seasoned and fried to perfection! She had the fish tacos and they were also yummo! Service was friendly and attentive. Price wasn't too shabby either. We will definitely return when we make our way downtown and are looking or a tasty meal. read more

This place is amazing! Perfect food and perfect service. I got the Jambalaya (and it's authentic spicy) and my wife got the fish tacos. We also chowed down on some fried oysters. Everything was delicious. The waitress (can't remember her name) was the owner and she knew exactly what to do at any one time. She even wrote little notes on our cokes so that she didn't have to ask us what we were drinking every time she refilled them. She knew when she was needed and when to leave us alone. She was also super friendly. Can't recommend this place enough. I am a Chihuahua's season ticket holder and will definitely be back. read more

Pretty awesome place!!! Didn't have blackened catfish on the menu but all I had to do is ask. Blacked catfish with rice and a salad, all was very good!!! Got talked into getting dessert and very glad I was!!! Blueberry cheese cake was different and also very good!!!! Would recommend coming down town and grab a bite here! Very awesome staff and really good food (at least mine was)! When you smile because what your eating is good and a cool environment it's a win!!!!! read more

Small, super casual atmosphere served with generous authenticity. I got the cod fish sandwich with fries for $7.95. Did I mention they make the sandwich with Cod?! Not Tilapia. Google can let anyone know tilapia can be nasty and farmed tilapia is often fed pig feces. It's a bottom feeder fish that thrives on nasty. Crazy popular for reason unbeknownst to me. Cod is on the other end of the scale. Super exciting to find a place that bucks the trend and takes square aim at serving a quality fish at an easy to afford price! Two thumbs up! read more

My family and I have eaten here more than once and all I can really think about is that pineapple cheesecake! I mean, in all my years, I have never had pineapple in my cheesecake~ Soooo delectably superb! YOU MUST TRY! The fish, shrimp, chicken, and fish sandwich are fantastic because the taste is different and just straight fulfilling. My boys, husband, and business partners really enjoy your spot! And! The owners are always sincerely welcoming and happy. If you are ever in El Paso they have two locations! This one, and the one Lee Trevino! You will not be disappointed. read more

BEST FISH AND CHIPS I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!! Not only was the fish and chips amazing, but my husband said the jambalaya was the very best he has ever tasted. And to top it all off, there was delicious cheesecake and sweet tea!! But the kicker to all of this is that it is all house made!! Even down to the french fries! The service was great too, she was such a sweet woman and took care of us like family. This place is the reason I want to make an excuse to go back to El Paso, and only this place. read more

Must visit .. we don't go as often as we like because the parking is a mess downtown and another expense when going out to eat. Other than that this place was awesome from the food to the music to the Service to the ice cold craft beer. I had the ceviche and etoufee pasta. Don't compare this etoufee to any other because it's more like an Cajun Alfredo but super delicious! My husband had a huge fish sandwich stacked with 2 crunchy fish fillets, he loved it. I can't wait to go back and try some more items from the menu. Oh and the staff is so welcoming and friendly! read more

I was on my way to find another restaurant when I walked by this place and decided to give it a try. Upon walking in I was greeted by the cutest little waitress in training. They provided suggestions which makes ordering easy but I could not avoid trying the blackened fish which came out fast, just spicy enough that I did not require my usual hot sauce over perfectly cooked rice with a surprisingly yummy spinach salad. I was pleasantly surprised with the slivered almonds and dried cranberries. They kept my tea full and I never had to ask for anything. Whenever I am in the area again I will definitely come back. read more

I have eaten here over the years but will definitely be eating here more often. I have developed a soy allergy. Mac's answered my questions over FaceBook, which is a real time saver. I ordered the grilled salmon. It comes with salad and rice. I had a very good experience with no side effects. That means there was no cross-contamination. They make their own dressings without soybean or vegetable oils. Thank you, Mac's, for accommodating my weird allergy! It is much appreciated. read more

Absolutely superb! The best fish sandwich I have had in a decade. My wife had the blackened cod with a salad and also ranked her meal 5 stars. Gary is the chef; he has mastered his craft, The people at the tables around us were also raving about the quality of their food. El Paso you have a quality restaurant for fish with great service without "breaking the bank" at Red Lobster or Landry's. Great food and great service at a most reasonable price. Do yourself a favor. We were in between movies at the Plaza Film Festival. We found Macs and it was a great find. Nothing fancy but good food with a nola flair and good friendly service. Had the chicken sandwich and my wife had tge bkackened fish. Both were very good. We recommend Macs if you are looking for a good solid meal. read more

We always hit up Mac's on Lee Trevino which has never let me down. So we were at the Chihuahua's game and decided to try out their downtown location. I like it! Food is so so good. Like the sign says, "Not fancy, just good". And it's really, really good. The blackened chicken sandwich came with golden brown fries and a side of ketchup. The chicken was juicy, spicy, and perfectly grilled, topped with cheese and baby spinach leaves, and it was wonderful. I can't wait to have this again! If you're downtown and you like southern style food, try this place out. read more

Amazing gem in El Paso. Had the clam chowder with bite size clams chopped up with green onion, very good. Next, I had the fried oysters, OMG the best I have ever had. You have to try these jumbo oysters that are lovingly coated and fried and served with cut lemon wedges and fantastic homemade tarter sauce. Everything is homemade and the owner, Gelaine does all the cooking. Next I had the blackened fresh salmon with yellow rice and a beautifully composed salad and sweet tea. What a surprise in the downtown area of El Paso and off the beaten path. I will definitely be back myself and with some of my customers. read more

Had a great time here. Very simple place that serves great food. Reminded me of what was available when I lived in east Texas. Make sure to order the oysters on a half shell and fried oysters if they offer them. Service was excellent and the food was even better. Will definitely be back. read more

My wife and I have been in El Paso for seven days and this is, by far, has been our best meal yet. Every dish we had - from the clam chowder to the gumbo to the shrimp pasta etouffee - was absolutely fantastic. Not only was the food great; but, we had the opportunity to meet the owners and they too were awesome. Definitely give this place a try. read more

We went and had the shrimp and fries recently at Mac's and we were overwhelmed at the size, freshness and taste of the shrimp. We are so used to be served previously frozen,small and over-breaded shrimp here locally. The fries were great-also made fresh from real potatoes. We ended our meal with homemade chocolate chip cookies which were a special treat. Our server was informative and energetic. The whole experience was just right. We are so happy with the new location. It's hard to believe the place is not packed and spilling out the doors. read more

I love this place. I frequent this place at least 3 times a week. My favorite are the fish tacos (Cod) which are topped with coldslaw. They used to do the rice on the side (which was great with the side lime) and now they do the fries. I recently had the Ahi Tuna and the ceviche plates. Generous portions + great quality = winner. I was really sad when I thought they closed, but it was only relocation. Thank goodness! ! You can also watch the fights and have a nice adult beverage while you do it. The staff is great and the lady Manager is AWESOME! I'm glad youre still here in downtown El Paso . Don't ever go away! read more

The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, and it ended up being one of our favorite dining experiences of the trip. The burrata personally I'm not a fan in general so of course I wouldn't be a fan this time either but they gave a nice little plate full of it. They added some oiled toasted bread and it was way too crispy in my opinion. My partner got the chicken Parmesan and his dish tasted great! Very juicy chicken and cooked all the way. The sauce was perfect too nice and flavorful and great pairing with the chicken. His butter noodles were just like regular butter noodles so not bad. Finally the crème brûlée. Probably the most disappointing dish we ordered. It took repeated stabs to break the sugar glaze on top. Me and my partner were honestly thinking that they added the cream on top to hide how burnt it was actually. Unfortunately because the glaze was so thick and burnt it made the rest of the cream taste have the burnt flavor. It was sad because my partner was looking forward to this desert. Also took wayyy longer to arrive than our entrées. I will say that the waitress was very helpful and she actually covered the crème Brulé. I didn't even ask she just offered, I think she could tell that we didn't enjoy it and I had nicely told her it wasn't what we were expecting so thank you sincerely. Overall I think this is a perfect spot to maybe try drinks and hang with friends. Food was okay, wouldn't try it again in that regard but overall a decent spot here in El Paso if you're looking for something new. Maybe best to ask what's their best dish to serve. If you know the feeling you know it's bad. The rice that came underneath the salmon was crunchy and way undercooked. All while the waiter was like oh I can bring you free deserts for your wait all while I could only think about how I just wanted to leave. I was internally livid and exhausted but kept it to my self after seeing the owner or manager who we the guy with the white hair over at the bar enjoying a few alcoholic beverages meanwhile his restaurants service and waitstaff to the worst possible job they can. I saw the people who got the most attention and good service were all regulars sitting at the bar laughing it up with the manager/owner older guy. Why not make sure your restaurant is running smoothly and food is being delivered and prepared properly and stop trying to impress the regulars who most likely will show up either way. Any restaurant that is this unorganized and unmotivated is due to crappy management. All this and the waiter is like I'll comp you for the steak sandwich with a discount for the bad service and salmon which was a whopping $5. I don't want a discount I don't want free day old desserts I want good service and decent food. Discounts and free desserts will never fix the problem because it will always be a crutch for trashy customer service. How about stop drinking with the guests and whoop that staff into semi decent shape buy some high chairs and make sure your expo does a once over quality check on the food and time it takes to get to the table EVEN if that means stepping in and doing it yourself. The restaurant is dark the tables are sticky the whole place is very compact . Perfect and quite attractive after 5-6 wines for sure. I'm sure the food is outstanding after a few drinks as well . They gave us a $25 dollar gift card to return which if I could I'd give to the owner so he could experience the same horrible food and service we did. I wouldn't even give the gift card to someone I hated. This was one of the first times in a long time I didn't just let it slide because I understand all restaurants and people have bad days but this was exceptionally bad. If you are thinking it can't be that bad think again it absolutely can. The whole "I'm sorry we usually have awesome service and everyone loves our food it's probably just me and my family " is laughable . This isn't my first time here while visiting El Paso. The food is getting worse.

Of the 11 or 12 guests I had that evening, 6 of them ordered the boneless ribeye and all were satisfied! For desert I had a couple of Basil Hayden Old Fashioneds, which was a wonderful end to a great dinner. I finally checked out Ámbar inside the Plaza Hotel downtown and honestly... that burger alone…read morealready earned them a return visit. I had just come down from a Tom Lea gallery event upstairs and the restaurant was packed. I figured it was a long shot, but they still found a way to seat me. Service stayed friendly even with the rush, which I always notice. The burger was easily one of the best I've had in El Paso. Clearly handcrafted, cooked right, super juicy, really flavorful. What impressed me most was the bun actually held everything together instead of falling apart halfway through like most gourmet burgers do. At about $20, it felt justified. One thing worth noting, especially if you're into spirits: they have one of the largest tequila and mezcal collections around. Definitely a destination spot if that's your thing. I tried their carajillo but found out they add Baileys, which made it sweeter than I usually prefer. Not bad at all, just more dessert-leaning than my taste. Live music from Jordan Taylor was happening that night too, which made the whole atmosphere feel elevated without being stuffy. Because that first visit stuck with me, I went back recently to try their lunch special with a friend. For $26 you get an appetizer, entrée, sides, guacamole, tostadas, and dessert. It's honestly a great way to try a range of dishes without committing to just one plate. Funny enough, it doesn't look like a huge amount of food at first... but we were completely stuffed by the end, so kudos to them for balancing portions well while still giving variety. Standouts: * The octopus cocktail appetizer was excellent. Bright, fresh, good texture. * Carne asada was cooked exactly right. Tender but still had bite like a proper steak. * Mushroom components in several dishes were surprisingly flavorful. * Desserts were a highlight. The arroz con leche arancini especially. Crispy outside, creamy inside, not overly sweet. Very well done. Some things were more middle-of-the-road: * Salmon dish leaned bland, lots of texture but not much flavor. * Guacamole tasted a bit acidic. * Goat cheese in the enchiladas was subtle to the point of disappearing. * Corn and mashed potatoes were fine but nothing memorable. Timing was reasonable. Food came out in about 20 minutes, but with a full meal you'll want to plan roughly an hour to an hour and a half total if you're not rushing. One practical perk: they validate parking at the Plaza garage next door, which downtown absolutely needs more of. Overall, beautiful space, solid service, some really strong dishes, and a few that could use more punch. Still very much worth checking out, especially if you're downtown already or want a nicer but still relaxed lunch or dinner spot. I made a reservation and our family of 5 had an incredible dinner. The service was exceptional - he was so attentive and wanted to make sure everything was just right. The food was some of the best we've eaten. The menu was diverse, and everything sounded so interesting. We had the pulled pork bao tacos for an appetizer, which were perfection - I could have just eaten them all night. My daughter ordered the green chili alfredo, which was as delicious as it was interesting. I ordered the pesto divorciados, and it had such complex flavors that paired together perfectly. My wife ordered the baked penne, and it was also just as delicious. We all agreed that all three entrees were just next level. My two youngest kids got kids' meals, which were homemade, delicious, and very kid-friendly. The atmosphere was fun, festive, and perfect for a date night or a fun night out with friends. We will absolutely eat there again before we leave town. Run don't walk to this restaurant.
